•°♤°• East Blue Poly + Soulmate AU + Sanji Never Leaves Germa + Half Robot Sanji
(Sorry if that's too much for you but I need to dump this for you).
Basically, Sanji nevers leaves Germa. His father made him believe that his soulmates are dead. Sanji became more sad that he almost lost his emotions and his ability to live. His brothers are not helping with them telling him that they are fine without soulmates, that they were born without, that they feel no emotion to feel that they are incomplete. Unlike Him.
Sanji still lives through the pain of being experiment on. Judge says that if he doesn't have a purpose as a soldier, then maybe he can have a purpose of a lab rat.
Reiju is horrified by what is happening to her little brother. Rejiu can imagine her mother rolling in her grave. Rejiu, like Sanji, was born with a soulmate, but Judge killed that connection between them before Rejiu can properly meet them. Rejiu can't imagine the pain of her younger brother suffering with knowing that his soulmates are dead.
She is more horrified to learn that her brother is being experimented on. Rejiu tries to be there. She tries. But she cannot disobey Judge (Not father, he lost that title when Rejiu learned what he did to Sanji).
(I will give you more info later on!)
Spade •°♤°•
That is a lot and that's why this has taken so long(please Spade, I'm sorry about the others) But let's get crackin!
Okay so Sanji is rapunzel'd with four soulmates and he stays because Judge has convinced him his soulmates, all four of them are dead. It's completely fucked as he's not in the dungeon but a medical wing, being told if he has no use being a soldier he has use as a labrat. Sanji is just stuck, kept away from everyone and thing and has a window like his mother did but he doesn't see the use in leaving. Having few emotions and having accepted his fate a long time ago he's also just despondent. He thinks he is anyway, he's accepted his fate. He is trapped in a way that is so hard to break from. Not that he thinks he should be allowed to leave anyway. He doesn't know anything else, anyway. Judge already killed his soulmates and he only feels phantom echos of his soulmate pulls. That's all they are, they're dead. There's no way they're alive and he should be fine with it. He should be - his brothers don't have soulmates and when they were younger they used to tell Sanji they were fine without them so why couldn't he be perfect like them?
You're right, Reiju is horrified by what is happening to her brother. She imagines Sora being alive and finding out what has happened to what was the only human of the five of them. She overhears Judge at some point talking about the plans with Sanji, the upcoming experiments and procedures. Shots, wires, a vivisection. They've already taken his ribs and replaced them so they didn't have to deal with those anymore. Reiju is listening and sneaks to the wing where Sanji is and quietly slips into the room where she finds him just waiting. Sanji is sitting in his bed and reading a book like he normally does, his partially black hair makes the blond stand out more than when they were children and Reiju is staring at him. He blinks at her in confusion because why would she be here? It doesn't make sense. The horror ripping through her body is awful and her soulmate connection was completely severed as a child. She wouldn't know where to find them but she can tell Sanji still has his connection although it's extremely weakened.
Reiju rushes over and puts her hands on him lightly, tears streaming down her face because he's alive. He's alive, resting after some intensive experiment Judge has done on him and staring at her because she shouldn't be here. No one is supposed to know Sanji is there and she tells him she will get him out. She promises him that, an escape and safety which Sanji doesn't understand. He has nowhere to go and he has no one out there. His soulmates are dead, Judge said he had killed them and Reiju asks him to think about how he would even know where to find them. He just hurt Sanji's connection to them, he had severed Reiju's completely. She starts plotting and it's a whole thing and she regularly starts to check in with him. She runs into the Strawhat Pirates and asks for passage on their ship after some mission or another, she admits she's partially using them because she's trying to find safe place for her brother to escape to. Luffy likes Reiju a lot and talks about how he has four soulmates and he's found three and they're missing the last one, he asks what her brother is like and she says he's more human than her but he's extremely hurt. Robin hums and mentions their faint echos of pain and hurt that often plague them and Zoro huffs that their soulmate is locked away on some fucking assassin/mercenary island hell and they need saved. Reiju promises that it'll be worth it with a soft smile.
So they do go save Sanji, and by saving Sanji who is fairly out of it because of whatever Judge was doing to him before Reiju got him out to them and they leave with him. Everyone is actually worried about the state he's in when he arrives as Luffy promises to take care of him and Reiju nods and leaves. When Sanji is more coherent in the infirmary on the Sunny he looks at Chopper and blinks because father did not have a doctor like that. So he asks if his father finally sold him off because he was useless and Chopper, who was reading at his desk, whips around and screams in terror. Everyone rushes to the infirmary at that and find Chopper explaining Reiju brought him to them because she wanted him safe and out of Germa. Sanji assures the little doctor he doesn't have to lie, he was expecting it at some point and everyone starts backing Chopper up with his being saved. Sanji looks at them all and Luffy introduces himself and sticks his hand out to shake Sanji's and he does and they feel sort of an electric zing of finding each other. Sanji just does a little 'Oh, huh.' and Zoro asks what that means as Luffy yells that he found their soulmate. Nami and Usopp ask again what Sanji was talking about and Sanji tells them very plainly his connection is weak and possibly mostly severed because he was the failure and therefore became a lab rat.
He is not expecting the anger on his behalf, nor does he understand it. But maybe he'll grow used to it, maybe he won't. For now he's exhausted and goes back to sleep.

I imagine Zoro feeling guilty for the famine & death he inadvertently caused. During this time he's a bit more distant, more closed off. One day, Sanji sees him in the fields of the dead with souls of children who had starved to death. He sees Zoro apologize to them and, with with a wave of his hand, takes away their pain. (1/2)
oh YES. there’s definitely a lot of guilt and emotional tumoil there. zoro doesn’t regret it, because then he wouldn’t have met sanji, but it eats away at him. he gently deflects sanji’s attempts at getting him to open up; spends way too long after dinner soaking in the mineral pools beneath the castle and running circles around his head over what he could have done differently. he ensures that the souls are happy after death, sure, but what about before? what about how much they’d suffered? they hadn’t had painless deaths. they deserved better than what zoro had caused because of his own immaturity.
sanji slips down and finds him in the pools, and his husband is silent when he sits on the ledge and dips his feet in the water.
they don’t talk. not for a while. sanji coaxes zoro’s head into his lap and pets at his hair, and zoro hugs his calves to his chest.
now, zoro is not what you’d usually call a soft person. sanji has seen him absolutely radiating divine rage, his shadows lashing out behind him like barbed whips, eyes glowing unearthly gold in his anger. he has seen his husband make unbelievably tough calls without so much as flinching or showing a hint of emotion.
but here, when it’s just them, it is obvious to see that zoro cares. he’s plagued by the truth of what he’d caused from one small decision, and it makes sanji’s heart ache. “what’s on your mind, darling?”
“it’s my responsibility to take care of the dead,” zoro breathes as he presses his forehead to sanji’s thigh. “i don’t regret it. you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, but it can’t happen again.”
“well, i’d hope not!” sanji scoffs gently, trying to lighten the mood and trailing his finger back and forth through zoro’s two remaining earrings. “if you kidnapped anybody else to marry i’d— well, i don’t know what i’d do.”
“if that ever happens,” zoro starts, very seriously, “take my head off. that isn’t me.”
sanji laughs. zoro’s hair is damp at at the ends and silky-soft beneath his fingers. “why was your first instinct to kidnap me, anyway?”
the king groans, and sanji is delighted that he can read zoro well enough to tell he’s embarrassed. “i had no idea how i was going to talk to you. you looked… untouchable. you’d have never looked twice at someone like me.”
“so… you kidnapped me. kind of a red flag.”
“i panicked and made a stupid decision, okay? and that stupid decision killed thousands.” zoro lifts his head and shifts to stack his forearms across sanji’s knees. he suddenly looks haunted. his eyes are bottomless pools of grey slate. “your father’s wrath was… deserved. and i wish he’d directed it at me.”
“oh, believe me, he wanted to. but he wasn’t sure who took me, even though he suspected, and even if he was right knew that he wouldn’t have been able to touch you.”
“i’d let him.” he draws in a shaky breath, leaning into the fingers sanji presses to the nape of his neck. “if i could go back—”
“but you can’t,” sanji reminds him gently. “what’s done is done. we can only make the most of it now. try and make it better.”
zoro sighs heavily and regards his husband with a wan smile. “don’t know what kind of stupid decisions i’d be making without you here,” he says, and sanji snorts.
“yeah, well. that’s why i am here. somebody had to keep you company before you went bonkers,” he mutters airily, ruffling zoro’s hair with his fingertips.
the water sloshes gently. zoro’s lungs are warm with steam, and his fingertips prune. “i’m sorry. i’ll do better.”
sanji clicks his tongue in a soft reproach, leaning forward to hug zoro to his chest. “it’s not me you should be apologising to anymore. you’ve more than made up for that,” he whispers, and the words echo in the cavern. they help, if only a little.
“i know.” zoro’s lips brush his husband’s shoulder. his arms fit around sanji’s waist like they were made for it, and he feels the wedding ring pressed to the top of his spine. “i know. i’m trying.”
he doesn’t know what else to say. doesn’t know what will absolve him of this guilt, sitting like a stone at the bottom of his stomach; he has a sinking suspicion that it’ll never really go away, but he’d prefer that any day over not feeling guilty at all.
zoro is the king of death. that is exactly why he treasures life most of all.
he looks up at his husband, resolute, and sanji raises an expectant eyebrow. “help me. teach me to be— kind. gentle. i need a buffer so the children—”
“but you are,” comes the reply, so very soft. “you are kind, and you are gentle, and you are a good king. they are not scared of you. they are simply in a new place, and they need guidance. familiarity. but yes—” sanji smiles, slowly, and zoro’s heart aches in his chest. “i’ll help. i’ll come with you. what was it you said to me, when you proposed?”
“my equal in every way, by my side,” zoro says immediately. it is his truth, everything he knows, and sanji nods.
“exactly. you’re allowed to lean on me, you know.”
“…i don’t feel like i deserve it, sometimes.”
“well, you’re wrong. so get your butt out of your giant bath—” sanji splashes the surface of the pool with his fingers, and zoro smiles despite everything, “—and we’ll go visit the fields again.”
“alright.” zoro is blessed. he knows it. and he’s dealing with the fallout of his stupidity, but gods.
he is so fucking glad sanji’s here.

(1/2 because this got… long and tumblr wouldn't let me send this. There is a second part to this i’m so sorry. if this ask is duplicated multiple times in your askbox i am SO sorry btw) While yes Sanji losing to a talking raccoon is hilarious and very in character, I am of the personal belief that Rocket Raccoon should NOT be winning and I'll tell you why.
(OBLIGATORY SPOILER WARNING FOR SANJI'S BACKSTORY HERE) First of all, while yes Rocket was subjected to genetic experiments and torture and he lost the friends he'd dreamed of escaping with, and that IS indeed very tragic (not to mention everything else the guy went through and had to deal with), Sanji was ALSO subjected to genetic experiments to the point he was deemed a failure practically the exact moment he was born by his own FAMILY. My man was beaten within an inch of his life in the name of "training" daily from the age of four because his sperm donor was angry the genetic experiments that were supposed to make Sanji an emotionless superhuman weapon failed, not to mention he let Sanji's three other brothers who were "successful experiments" wail on him because it was "Sanji's fault for being weak". AND ALSO! Sanji's name basically means "three". His oldest sister is Reiju, "zero", his oldest brother is Ichiji, "one", and then Niji, "two", and then right after Sanji is Yonji, "four". He and his siblings were and are just numbers to their sperm donor. THAT IS REALLY FUCKED UP. Sanji's mom died because she took a pill to make sure that her children wouldn't be emotionless weapons, and it only worked for Sanji, and she ended up dying because of the repercussions to her health. Sanji tried cooking meals for her to make her feel better while she was alive, and while they were Really Not Great she still ate them and told Sanji she wouldn't eat unless it was meals from him and she INSPIRED him to be the brilliant cook that he is today. And then she died and Judge - Sanji's "father" - decided enough was enough and threw him in a dungeon, told everyone he died, and locked a metal mask around Sanji's face because he didn't want anyone even so much as KNOWING he existed. At the age of EIGHT. Do you know how much that fucks up a kid that young, being locked away and FORGOTTEN about all because of how they were born??? DO YOU????? BECAUSE IT FUCKS THEM UP A LOT, OKAY He's then locked away in a dungeon for six months and develops a severe phobia of bugs because of the CONDITIONS HE'S KEPT IN, and is also STILL REGULARLY BEATEN BY HIS BROTHERS BECAUSE, OH YEAH, JUDGE GAVE THEM THE KEY TO HIS CELL FOR THIS SPECIFIC REASON. AND HE'S WEAKER THAN THEM SO EVEN THOUGH HE TRIES HE CAN'T DEFEND HIMSELF. And eventually Reiju, bless her heart, can't stand watching this anymore and breaks him out and onto a ship. And then Judge proceeds to FIND OUT ABOUT THIS and DISOWNS HIM and tells him to never come back. And yeah this is objectively a good thing but also WHO DISOWNS THEIR EIGHT YEAR OLD CHILD FOR SIMPLY BEING BORN- Oh wait yeah this is Judge we're talking about of course he'd do this. And we find out about all this EIGHT HUNDRED CHAPTERS INTO THE STORY, ON TOP OF HIS ALREADY TRAGIC BACKSTORY SO IT'S TRAGIC BACKSTORY X2

Please may I have a One piece scenario of when parenthood can be..disgusting and it was certainly the case for you (Sanji's wife and mother to three children by now..her son Ame age 13 *he is no longer a handful thank god* and son Yuki age 11 and daughter Suzy age 5) and you were horrified to discover a secret graveyard of bogies in the corner of your daughter's wardrobe when you were doing the daily cleaning..you nearly gagged at the sight..it was horrific but you cleaned it off anyway and you dealt with more disgusting things than that..you told Suzy in the most nicest way possible to please not do that again in the near future because it was one hell of a job scrubbing it off when you finally found your children on the boat deck (she had putting bogies in the secret corner for for weeks and you put an end to it thankfully and your sons were grateful for that)..you were certainly not telling Sanji about the disgusting discovery.
Here you go! Sorry, it's short and late!
Pinching the bridge of your nose, you carefully got down on your knees and began to scrub at the counter. Your daughter, Suzy had a habit of wiping her boogers on the side of her dresser. It was disgusting but you know it would absolutely gross your husband out to no end if he found out about it. So, you took on the job of cleaning the dresser. It took you nearly three hours to scrub her dresser clean. You stood from the ground and went to wash your hands before going to find your kids.
Your sons have told you what Suzy had been doing but you didn’t think anything of it til you actually saw it in person. You climbed the steps to the top deck and found your kids sitting at one of the tables while Sanji was giving them lunch. You smiled softly as you watched your sons and daughter laughing as their father began goofing around as well. You climbed the last two steps and walked towards your family.
“Suzy, darling. Can I talk to you for a moment?” You asked. You watched your daughter nod her head before pushing herself out of the chair and walking over to you. Sanji had returned to the kitchen and you squatted in front of her. “Honey, have you been putting boogers on the dressers and tables? I’m not mad but I need you not to do that anymore. It's not good for anyone on the boat and it can get people sick. If you don’t stop, I am gonna have to ground you. Understand honey?” You said, patting your daughter's head as she sniffled and nodded her head.
“That's my girl. Now, should we go back and finish lunch that dad prepared for us?” You asked, and you couldn’t help the smile that appeared on your lips the minute your daughter smiled happily at the mention of food made by Sanji. Your daughter always hyped your husband up when it came to food. Your sons smiled at you and thanked you silently for stopping the gross mess that Suzy always seemed to leave behind. You returned the smile before sitting down next to them and smiling happily when Sanji placed your lunch in front of you. He leaned down and pressed his lips to yours and smiled. “For you my darling.” He said, smiling brightly at you before turning to your daughter and ruffling her hair. You loved your little family.

Not really a request but more an headcanon on the vinsmoke brothers.
Ichiji, Niji and Yonji in reality can feel emotions but they are twisted so they percieve thing differently from any normal human and, when they do feel things like any one else, they just fake it by being extremely mean and shows zero emotions because of their father that considers them failures.
This being said, i picture them being extremely mean with their crush / s/o mostly because they don't know how to show proper emotions and also, they can be quite dangerous for this since they can feel emotion and being jealous is a pretty strong one.
This is a really good one. Sorry if this didn't turn out how you liked it to be. Congratulations on being the first person to request the yandere Vinsmoke.
~~~~~
Ichiji Vinsmoke
Judge made you be the young maid for his first son, Ichiji.
So, when Ichiji was young, he threw a lot of insults at you.
He didn't hit or injured in any way, he just threw insults at you.
He said stuff like "Your outfit looks ugly, you should change it." or "You know, you should change your body. Oh wait, you can't cause you already ruined it yourself."
He knows that you get hurt by this, and he likes it.
Then one day, you've been ignoring and avoiding him.
This happened for the past couple of years.
Never taken one order from him, or do anything for him.
He hates it when you hang out with other people, especially Sanji.
He went to his mother, Sora, to tell her about this.
She tells him to apologize to you and he did.
But, you saw that as a joke and completely ignored it.
When he was finally an adult, Judge said something that'll shock everyone, including you.
"Ichiji, my son. I've noticed how you look at Y/N a lot, so I've decided that you should marry her."
And so, it happened.
You were married to him. Under his mercy.
You hated this and he knew.
But he loves it.
He finally got you to notice him.
Niji Vinsmoke
Being a young maid for the second Vinsmoke son is similar to hell, but much worse.
Unlike Ichiji, not only does he throw insults at you, but he also beat you up.
He would trip you while going down the stairs, hit you "on purpose", and throw his plate of food at you.
One day, you had enough and said something.
"You know what, if you don't treat me with respect, then I won't serve you anymore!"
He was silent, then laughed thinking it was just a joke.
But, turns out he was wrong.
You actually stopped serving him.
He started to get annoyed by this, but started to is develop some strange feelings.
He was pissed off when he saw you hanging out with Sanji in his cell.
This went on after Sanji ran off after years.
When he finally became a germa, he went to his father.
"Father, may I ask you something?"
His father looked up at him.
"Can I have your permission to marry Y/N?"
Judge looked at him for a moment before nodding.
"Well, I suppose so. You will make children with her."
And it was settled.
You were under his mercy.
There will be no ignoring or avoiding.
Unless you want a punishment from him.
Yonji Vinsmoke
Yonji didn't want a young maid at first, but when he saw you.
He knew he was going to have a lot of fun.
Like a lot.
He's better than Niji but worse than Ichiji.
He would throw insults at you, but he doesn't do anything harmful.
Other than tripping you over.
After months of being stuck next to him, you had enough.
You told him to stop multiple times, but he saw that as a joke.
It was until you started to ignore him.
He tried everything to get your attention, but it was like dust blowing away from the wind.
Yonji barks at people when they just spoke one word to you.
Even his brothers.
He doesn't know what this is, but he kinda liked it.
He asked his mother about it, and she told him that it was some twisted way of love.
And oh boy, he loved it.
Finally, after years, he started to get more possessive each time.
Until one day, he pinned your arms against a wall nearby.
He watched as you struggle to get out of his grasp until you stopped after hearing his line.
"You'll get married to me in a couple of weeks. You better not think about escaping this kingdom."
His voice sounded threatening and you were scared.
And you shakily nodded your head.
After the agreement, you were glued to the man you never had affection for.
Castiel and Nath are (kinda) besties headcanon
I headcanon Castiel and Nath post-Love Life as actually being pretty close and almost seeing each other as family.
They're still bickering a lot, but while they used to pick a fight at every occasion before, they now stick to teasing one another (which started in campus life and love life). They think it's only fun and games and while some people might think they're being harsh, they're joking (most of the time) and on this matter share the same sense of humor.
Like they'll never admit it but they are slowly becoming friends and trust the other like no one. Especially because they have witnessed and helped each other in their most vulnerable moment(s) and know the other would have their back if anything happens.
They both have a couple of very good loving friends they trust and hang out with (Castiel and Nath mostly see each other during social gathering and they text only when it's necessary) but for some reason when they are really in trouble the other happens to be the one who help them and understand them the most (aside from their s/o). They have this weird "stop being a bitch and tell me what's really wrong so i can help." relationship, mostly because they don't sugarcoat one another.
So not really the "i love spending time with this guy we're having so much fun together" kind of friendship but more of the "I trust this guy with my life" kind of bond if that makes sense?
They're the Zoro and Sanji of mcl.
They also could be an interesting duo in a post-apocalyptic/zombie au.
They're always pretty much suprised to discover a new side of the other that they don't dislike. This doesn't mean they didn't truely hate each other in high school. They definitely did and used to be incompatible. But they're grown now and understand each others more. They know they're not "a match made in heaven" that's why they don't spend time together but they learned to appreciate what they have.
I don't think they would hang out just the two of them (not of their own free will).
However I like to think that one day, during the early stages of their "friendship", one of them had this extra ticket to a sport game (yeah they're older now, they do typical dad stuff) or any activity you'd like to imagine. Your Candy was supposed to go with him cause u two are married (or remained close friends) but you cancelled last minute. "I'm really sorry babe. You should ask Castiel/Nath, I think I remember him saying he would like to go one day. He'll probably enjoy it more than me anyway." "You're kidding, right?" You were not kidding.
You kinda forced him to ask cause he didn't want to at first (and you probably made the call too because despite being ~30 they both still have a ridiculously big ego).
They both thought this would be awkard and your husband/friend probably spent the whole day complaining about you putting him in this situation ("C'mon Castiel/Nath', you two aren't children anymore.") while the other (who said yes mostly to be polite to Candy) was wondering if he could still find a way to avoid the situation (but is still very much excited to see the game anyway).
In the end, they enjoyed their time more than they'll admit and ended up drunk as fuck in a bar afterward.
Candy teased her husband the day after cause he couldn't stop talking about "how much fun he had" while trying to pretend it was only because the game was really c o o l.
Now it has become their little habit to go see it together. They don't even talk that much when they're going, and rarely about personal stuff. They discuss strategies and random stuff like that just as two people who share the same hobby. But they really enjoy it.
"Enjoy your date!" Candy loves to tease her husband when he leaves to join the other.
So yeah I guess we could say they do hang out together in fact, but "it's only 'cause we both support the same team." right?! They'll always find a valid reason.
Again if your Candy is married to one of them, I can see Nath/Castiel visiting the couple just to have dinner and see the kid(s). When they get older, they send each other Christmas cards (ok right, mostly because Candy wants to, but they're glad the other wrote that he's doing ok).
And I definitely wanted Castiel to choose Nathaniel as his bestman during the wedding episode, I mean he almost did when he chose Amber! I don't know about Nathaniel's route tho.
Let's finish this post with this funny little sketch of Zoro and Sanji from One Piece made by @huanghying on twitter which makes me think of them a bit.
Anyway, Castiel and Nath' are secretely besties <3
some one piece headcanons i have
characters ; law, robin, nami, sanji
tw ; characters' trauma/s
a/n : aaaa, this is my first time writing again. i used to write oneshots and full blown fanfiction books but i wanna try headcanons/scenarios (´-﹏-`;).
i am also well aware that some of these headcanons already exist but i headcanon them too! i hope it doesn't bother anyone (。ŏ﹏ŏ).
let me know if i should make more of these or suggest a character! you can also send feedbacks about anything. my asks are open too <33.
trafalgar law
i love the idea that he still has his white lead marks around his face and body. it's not as visible anymore but if you look closely, it's there.
as much as he loves his peace and quiet, he feels restless if he doesn't have any background noises. it reminds him of the night he lost corazon.
post-dressrosa, he was feeling a little lost since he already fulfilled his purpose of finishing what corazon couldn't.
oftens wonder if corazon would be proud of him (he is).
has a picture of his crew on his desk with corazon's 1×1 on the corner.
is NOT organized, has crumpled notes and scratch around his desk and a bin full of paper.
would sleep on his desk and sofa but NEVER on his bed.
nico robin
hates loud noises and explotions since it reminds her of ohara.
would stay up because she'd sometimes get night terrors about ohara's incident.
has high pain tolerance because she's used to pain.
plays the mom figure subconsciously since she knows what if feels like to not have one by her side.
her and nami would talk about their mothers. robin loves to listen even if she can only add a few into the conversation.
i like to think if she laughs so much, she'll actually go "terushishishishi".
would doodle saul on the edge of her notes when she's thinking.
loves giants because of saul and would love to visit elbaf not just because of history.
loves to play with the other strawhats' hair.
actually started finding bizarre things cute out of pity since she knows what its like to be disliked/feared but it grew on her.
nami
The Development of Law and Zoro relationship: Wano, Clash of Authority
<Part I: Before Meeting>> <<Part II: Sabaody Archipelago, The First Meeting>> <<Part III: Punk Hazard: The Alliance (A)__(B)>> <<Part IV: Dressrosa, The Breaking Point (The Plan Failed)__ (Saving Law)__(Protecting Law)__ (Birdcage, Pica and Doflamingo)__ (Aftermath)>> <<Part V: Zou, The Kindred Spirits (Traveling Together)__(Searching for Nakama)__ (Reunion)__ (Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance)__(The Last Moments before War)>> Part VI: Wano, Against Emperors (The Untold Journey)__(Luffy & Zoro Means Troubles…)__(...and Law Is Not Happy About That)__(Separated Again)__(Clash of Authority)
Luffy and Zoro were separated from friends and in result, had their own adventures that ultimately led them to
obtain an important power-up (Luffy learned how to better utilize haki, Zoro got a powerful sword)
strengthen ties with Oden’s children - Momonosuke and Hiyori respectively.
The storyline of Wano Arc highlights the equality between both characters, about what I talked a bit more here. In meanwhile, Law stayed with samurais, his crew and remanding Straw Hats, helping to gain allies before the planned raid on Kaido’s mansion, until the plot did not separate him too from others (chapter 940)
During that time, Trafalgar has a chance to interact with Zoro’s crewmembers and those moments are a good way to see his and Zoro’s relationship from a different perspective. Law’s interactions with Usopp, Sanji and Robin are especially good examples to analyze.
In the previous part, I already announced Law’s “arising conflicts” with male Strawhats. So far it wasn’t outright any serious argument that made him feel antagonized toward allies yet once there is no Luffy or Zoro around, an unresolved matter of leadership will come up more and more often.
The issue of authority could be seen in chapter 922 (the whole scene was discussed more voluminously in the previous part)
where Law openly shut down Sanji’ critice, and looking at Sanji’s reaction, Trafalgar’s angry reaction was unexpected. Nami and Chopper were the ones that actually calmed the situation by rightly assuming the mess was Luffy’s fault anyway and apologizing for whatever their captain did.
When Luffy was defeated by Kaido (chapter 924) and taken to prison, there is no information that anyone blamed Law for not saving him. Straw Hats of course believed in Luffy’s unbreakable spirit and worked along others to recruit as many as possible loyal followers of Kozuki’s clan (chapter 926).
When X-Drake and Page One showed up in capitol to deal with Soba cook (Sanji) for beating men of Kyoshiro’s family alongside Basil Hawkins in his search for Law, Straw Hats and Trafalgar at first worked well. Law warned his allies that they shouldn’t fight against X-Drake and Hawkins because both will recognize them, thus the plan will be put in danger and so we see them running away together although still exchanging their opinions on that matter (chapter 930).
↪ Law isn’t Straw Hats captain, not their superior but he was telling everyone what they should and shouldn’t do, including demanding that if any of them get caught, they better let the enemy kill them than spill the guts about the plan or Minks. Usopp, understably, did not take that well and even compared Law to Luffy who would never demand from his crew members anything like that. And although it is true that Luffy wouldn’t say stuff like that Zoro in fact showed this “better die than fail” mindset before, in Enies Lobby arc:
“Losing a fight means losing time. Everyone, win even if it kills you!” [chapter 400]
Back then no Straw Hats questioned such “order”, including Usopp who joined others to save Robin but himself, officially, wasn’t part of the crew anymore. Of course, such words coming from Zoro, a trusted first mate, and Law, an allied pirate but not close friend really, will always be received differently.
→ Surprisingly, the matter of Law not being their captain (a superior) came after Law’s further instructions that in itself were very pragmatic. Here Usopp openly questioned his authority (“Who made you our captain?!”) and said he will choose his own life over the plan. The next frames present that threat as Usopp’s lie to make Sanji openly promise to protect him but in all fairness, Usopp knows Sanji well enough to be sure his comrade would protect him anyway. Because of that the statement stands out regardless of the final outcome. At the same time, Law was openly showing his anger at those two, for not being serious in the time of crisis.
(Once the proper battle with Kaido and Big Mom will occur, Law’s “die to save plan” mindset will take turn by 180 degrees, but let’s save it for discussion at an appropriate time.)
Despite Law’s warnings and instructions, Sanji went to face the Page One who was terrorizing local, innocent people. Usopp and Franky were concerned about Sanji’s choice while Law was more irritated judging by the puff of irritation and his very uncaring “Who cares about town? Just forget it” (chapter 931).
There is no clash with Straw Hats in regard to choice of action but there is pretty visible contrast in care or lack therefore for innocent people. In that case, this is another example in which Law outright states (shows) indifference to what happens with people who aren’t his crew or allies. It could be seen on Punk Hazard when he helped save children because Luffy (in Nami’s name) demanded it or during Dressrosa, when Law was ready to sacrifice whole country just to destroy Doflamingo or even few chapters ago he was irritated by Luffy and Zoro providing fresh water and food to starving folktowns. I personally don’t think that Luffy or Zoro would question Sanji’s decision, trusting their comrade.
There is however an instance change in Law’s reaction once Sanji starts using Germa’s suit.
Franky and Usopp, like always, were fascinated by the mystery gear. Law outright admitted to being a fanboy who hates the Germa 66 and said that in the most serious tone while Sanji got irritated by the whole situation. So we could assume that Law feels enough comfy in the presence of Straw Hats to be so open about his personal childhood hobby and nerd opinions. On Zou he too showed this side of himself, yet his interest in ninja seemed more a quiet occurrence and happening kinda just around Zoro who also kept some distance from the “center of ninja enthusiasm”.
During Sanji’s fight with Page One, Law was the one commenting and explaining to the rest of Straw Hats the whole deal with “Black Stealth”’s powers, including a source of such knowledge (comics strip in newspaper). Usopp, a nerdy man himself, instead of be impressed by such precise knowledge, actually was rather disturbed(?) by it (chapter 931).
When Sanji got hit by an enemy, Franky and Usopp showed concern for their comrade while Law came back to his natural, unmoved calmness. His “Those ancient types don’t mess around” comment sounds alike to Zoro, as in, not showing distress for Sanji - in case of Roronoa we may be sure his usual calmness comes from trust in Sanji’s skills, however with Law it is hard to say. Considering that once the fight gets more destructive, we could see Law, Usopp and Franky running away (as Sanji told them at the beginning), I think it is safe to assume Law too put some trust in Black Leg.
Since Usopp was asking why they’re leaving Sanji, it is most likely Law’s decision to get out once the attention of the enemy was focused on Black Leg. His decision once again comes from pragmatism than anything else.
The next time the manga presents Law with (male) Straw Hats, they were hiding in Ebisu Town. Sitting together in the room, the four of them were discussing the matters of latest events, including the death of beautiful Oiran (chapter 934).
↪ Unsurprisingly, Sanji was the most affected by the death of stunning woman while Law was totally unaffected by the event. That in fact makes him very much like Zoro, who also shows no concern for the beauty of women. The interaction between uncaring Law and angry Sanji reminds of the typical Zoro-Sanji dynamic.
↪ Law reading a newspaper to keep track of all needed information (similar to Zoro in Water 7 arc and post-Dressrosa scene) and showed interest in Eustass Kid. Law had knowledge of Kid-Hawkins alliance and was focused on news that Kid broke out from prison. Franky and Usopp paid attention to Law’s musing while Sanji’s perverted nature was solely focused on women in the bathhouse. Law’s reaction to his perversion wasn’t included but it is easy to imagine he wasn’t impressed by Sanji’s distraction. Straw Hats for sure weren’t and they are his comrades.
In Ebisu Town, the group met Yasuie, a new friend of Zoro. In contrast to Straw Hats, Law did not react much to Yasuie’s laughing at the fact there are plenty of empty houses because so many people die out of hunger. The man also told them about Zoro’s departure. In manga, the characters' reactions were put only in speech bubbles that aren’t even easy to tell which person said what. In anime though the mention of missing each other was clearly something that Law got interested in and he didn’t sound happy about such outcome. He at least didn’t voice the high possibility that Roronoa may get lost somehow, as Franky did (episode 931). Law was also the first to notice that Sanji disappeared.
As it turned out, Sanji was using Germa’s Black Stealth suit to gather information and spy on women in public bathouse. It is him who learned about the captured Heart Pirate crew to lure Trafalgar into a trap. While running away from the enemy, he said to Nami, Robin and Shinobu they must “get Law under control or the entire city will plunge into chaos” (chapter 936). This is an interesting detail since Sanji heard Trafalgar’s demands to put mission over own safety yet he assumed the Supernova would do something drastic to save his crew. And to be honest, he wasn’t wrong about that.
Chapter 938 is the most important moment defining the relationship between Law, other Straw Hats and samurai, as the one scene when the shaken balance of power - lack of Luffy and Zoro - became the most crucial. Because the plan leaked to the enemy, Shinobu accused Bepo and other captured pirates of betrayal and Law did not take that kindly.
Here some thought on that matter:
⏩ Law has been working with Straw Hats for awhile already. Despite some smaller conflicts here and there, in general they all were on good terms. Yet during the heated argument, with exception of Sanji, Straw Hats did not get involved much and specifiely, did not in any meaningful way support Law. Only Sanji actively tried to calm down the conflict but due to his treacherous stunt pulled in a public bathhouse, all his talk about trust between comrades was shut down by Nami and Shinobi (anime) since at that moment, he was the least trusted person.
Zoro would never be put in such situation for the simple fact he does not act on romantic or sexual desires and through the course of manga, has never broke the trust given by female characters, never had took any chance to peek at or grope their bodies. Which really makes him one of the safest men to be around for women. Zoro may not be the most respectful speaking person but for sure he does respect other people’s boundaries. And because of that, it is easy to imagine if he was there and told that comrades must trust each other, Nami would have no reason to insult his person. Similar to Luffy.
⏩ Franky, Robin, Usopp barely did add anything to the argument:
Usopp’s one comment was just how Shinobu’s mindset about killing captured comrades was scaring him even though in private talk with Nami he admitted to not hold any grudge toward Bepo and the rest, if they actually told the enemy everything (chapter 940). But such support wasn’t voiced to Law or samurais back then.
Franky and Robin simply watched the unfolding of the situation - what in case of Robin is really surprising, since she and Law had mutual respect and trust going between them.
Nami was angry at Sanji and she even beat him for what happened in the bathhouse. In the mentioned private talk with Usopp, she admitted to understanding Shinobu’s frustration over the whole situation although she too didn’t show any anger at Heart Pirates. In fact, like the rest of the crew, she did not openly support any side of the conflict.
⏩Sanji tried but failed to take control over the crisis or stop Law from leaving. In the anime the discussed scene was extended. One of the most important additions was Law’s reaction to Sanji's efforts.
The outright stated “You can’t tell me what to do, Blackleg-ya! (episode 934) once again comes down to the clash of authority. Nor Sanji, Usopp, Nami, Robin, Franky, nor the samurai were above him and he wasn’t bound to listen to anyone. On Zue it was made clear that leaders of the Pirate-Samurai-Mink alliance were equal.
⏩ Even if Luffy couldn’t order Law to do anything against his will, Luffy’s presence would definitely have an impact on the situation. Since Straw Hat himself is very nakama-oriented, he wouldn’t stand silent when Shinobu talked about killing Law’s comrades when there wasn’t even any proof of their betrayal. Law most likely wouldn’t want Luffy to get involved with saving Heart Pirates because Luffy already brought too much enemy’s attention but at least he would be given the needed support. Zoro’s mindset is more complicated, colder than Luffy’s but here is a thing - alliance is a form of deal and one that needs trust to remain valid. Zoro has a very clear idea of trust and honoring deals, what was seen in various situations, from joining Luffy (agreeing to very specific terms of their deal), then the matter of letting Usopp come back to the crew (not letting in someone who they can’t fully trust) to hostage crisis in King Neptune’s Palace (telling Usopp to free hostages since they failed to hold up their end of the deal, ’’We promised the hostages wouldn’t be harmed’’, chapter 617).
On Punk Hazard, when the alliance was freshly made, Law showed great concern about many things that needed to be done in a certain way for the plan to succeed, including stopping Buffalo and Baby 5 who got their hands on Caesar (chapter 695). Usopp took this task upon himself (“Leave it to me. Taking down flying enemies is the sniper’s job!) yet Law clearly wanted to stop the enemy all by himself because failing now would put the whole plan in danger - what sounds very similar to the current problem in Wano where a crucial part of the great scheme was threatened. Back then Straw Hats demanded from Law to believe in them (Luffy’s “Whoa, whoa. Usopp said to leave it to him”, Zoro’s “Don’t think just cuz he has a long nose our sniper can’t do his job!”, Nami’s “Are we in alliance or not?! We’d appreciate a little trust!!!”). Yet now, when Law asked alliance to trust his crew - or at least, to give them the benefit of doubt (“We’ll get to the bottom of this once we rescue and ask them!”), he got nothing of the sort. Available Straw Hats (except Sanji) didn’t get involved in the argument and didn't openly support any side. What is quite surprising, considering how Straw Hats are usually vocal about their feelings or support for befriended people.
This is why I think Zoro’s presence would be beneficial for Law. Because Trafalgar put a trust in Straw Hats when they demanded it, despite how much his plan depended on barely familiar people. Not trusting Law’s crew now, in a similar critical situation, would be not only unfair but also against the principle of alliance. Even more since there was no real proof of Heart Pirate crew’s betrayal, just assumption on Shinobu's part, clearly fueled by her own feelings (and Zoro doesn’t like to rely on emotions when it comes to choosing the best course of action). We may only wonder how different the scene would play if Zoro was there, to either support Law or at least to acknowledge Law’s arguments.
(And even if Zoro was there to support Law, the man could still be against taking Roronoa with himself on a rescue mission. The same as Luffy, Zoro has a bad habit of bringing unwanted attention of the enemy).
⏩ In the end, it was Kanjuro who stood up fo Law. Not as the “you should trust him” but as a reminder that not everything will go according to the plan and how samurais need the help of pirates to defeat Kaido.
Considering everything that happened - Shinobu’s blaming Heart Pirates, Sanji’s attempt to stop Law from saving his crew and silence of the rest of Straw Hats - Law’s final decision of leaving Ebisu Town shouldn’t come as a surprise. Nor his angry words (chapter 940).
“Don’t forget the fact that you doubted the loyalty of my crew. If we can’t trust each other in moments like this then I can’t expect to entrust my safety to you when the fighting is fierce.”
Available at that time Straw Hats and Shinobu failed the big test of trust before battle even started. From all of Zoro's friends, the manga showed only the reaction of Usopp and Nami who privately talked together about Law’s choice of leaving. Usopp hoped Trafalgar would decide to come back, didn’t blame Heart Pirates if they actually told the enemy everything (as Nami pointed out, because he would do the same, as she would too) and showed irritation at Shinobu who caused the rift in the alliance. Nami showed no opinion of Trafalgar’s angry decision in that discussion - in fact, she defended Shinobu what makes sense The two women worked together as spies in the last days and in process become quite close but also, Nami was once in a similar situation, living under cruel tyrant like Arlong. Shinobu’s frustration was understable to her.
In the end, to save his crew, Law agreed to exchange himself for their safety. In result, he was tortured by enemy who wanted to gain intel about Straw Hats and the goals of their alliance (chapter 950). Despite what happened between Trafalgar and Shinobu, Law did not betray his comrades.
Nami was glad to see Heart Pirates back in Ebisu Town (chapter 951) and the men claimed they were lucky and managed to run away on their own when in truth, their captain ordered them to keep quiet about this (“Don’t tell Straw Hat and the others that I’ve been caught!”).
The question is, was that solely a pragmatic decision on Law’s part, as in, to avoid more complications, especially if someone decided to come and save him - or was there some distrust in light of recent argument with Shinobu? Whatever the case, Law took it upon himself to secure his crew’s safety and apparently had a plan or two how to play the situation. He managed to beat down his oppressor(s) and gather important intel about what happened to the alliance between Kid, Hawkins and Appo (chapter 954).
(Interestingly, Zoro wasn’t named by name, it was solely Luffy and everyone else put into “the others” category though it could come from the simple fact that Zoro wasn’t around Ebisu Town for a few days already and even if Law saw him during Yasuie’s execution, he could also see him running away with woman under his protection. Anyway, Roronoa wasn’t the main source of potential trouble, not like Luffy at least.)
Ultimately, with help of X-Drake, Law got out of prison but did not go to the hideout of the alliance and wasn’t seen before meeting on the sea at the day of raid. Through the chapters, Sanji and Nami were shown caring about Heart Pirates crew (Sanji noticed the lack of Heart Pirates between captured and imprisoned samurais which suggest he was looking after them, Nami was glad to see them again), Chopper outright called Law a very powerful ally, Kinemon was worried about not hearing from Law. In contrast, Shinobu’s opinion on Trafalgar’s absence was pretty low (“If he doesn’t show up, that’s no skin off our back, is it?”, chapter 955). Law too seemed to hold some grudge against samurais just before the raid, because though he saved them at sea, he outright said “This isn’t your samurai garrison [ …] I’m not helping you! Get off!” (chapter 975).
(The samurai ultimately learned the truth that Heart Pirates weren’t responsible for the leak from Kanjuro in chapter 974 yet there was no apology for doubting them and Law so far. Of course, in the end, samurais traveled with Law to Kaido’s mansion so I think it is safe to assume that whatever tension was between Heart Pirates and samurais, it was put to rest, somehow.)
Before they got to Kaido’s mansion however, Law told Kinemon to not bother explaining to Luffy the plan. As he argued (and apparently, his opinion this time holds a great weight between samurais), there will be at least two idiots to not follow it (chapter 977).
“No matter what kind of plan you put together, I can think of approximately two idiots who will charge straight in regardless!”
In anime it was pretty clear Law meant Luffy and Eustass however manga is more vague about who he meant and I wouldn’t be surprised if Zoro was counted as one of the “idiots”. Eustass is of course an understable candidate too, but Law had more experiences working with Straw Hats than Eustass and Zoro proved to be as insane as his captain when it comes to finding trouble and not following the plan.
This nevertheless did not eliminate the clash of authority between pirates, because once Eustass Kid joined the alliance, the dynamic between Law and Luffy changed in visible ways every time the three captains were together. Zoro, on another hand, seemed to work well with every allied Supernova, but that of course will be a subject of the next part.
Here some additional thoughts:
→ Law is willing to sacrifice innocent people for his or alliance’s plans as long as safety of his crew is secured. He showed that uncaring attitude while working with Straw Hats - and yet Sanji was pretty sure Law’s cold-pragmatic mindset does not include his own men.
→ Trafalgar’s mindset about trust seems to be similar to Zoro’s. Also they share the willingness to stay behind, so they crewmembers could run away, as could be seen when Law agreed to exchange himself for captured nakama. Both men aren’t afraid of pain or putting themselves in danger..
→This part of the Wano arc seems to mirror Punk Hazard. During Punk Hazard, Straw Hats crew kept putting safety of each other (and saved children) above Law’s grand scheme (for example chapter 693, in which they refuse to get into cart cause not all of their people were there) while in Wano, it is Law who is putting his crew about alliance’s plan. The difference though is that Law compiled to Luffy’s wishes while when Law himself needed the trust of his pirate allies, he got almost nothing.
→ Jimbei officially joining Straw Hats for sure shaken the power balance of the pirate alliance. He is, after all, a former warlord and a well respected (formed) captain of famus Sun Pirates. Law and Kid were pretty shocked by the turn of events and it seems Straw Hats did not mention to Trafalgar about Jimbei’s decision to join them.
→ So far, Law’s angry words about betrayed trust didn’t influence much of his choices during battle, albeit it seems he does not forgive easily insulting his crew. Of course, the harsh words to samurais to get off his submarine may be just his natural gruffness.
→ Lack of Luffy or Zoro really seems to set off the balance between allied pirate crews. Straw Hats cares about Heart Pirates and interacts with Law with little to no problems, but the matter of authority came up at least a few times. In previous arcs such arguments did not arise.
→ In chapter 938, when Zoro got seriously injured by Kamazo, his first thought was “Damn. Not when the big battle’s so soon!” Which shows how Zoro and Law had a similar mindset about injuries just before the raid. These could influence their effectiveness in combat and reduce the chance of winning. Despite the pragmatic approach, both get into trouble to save someone else and in process got seriously hurt.
→The previously mentioned information from SBS vol. 72 stated that Law addresses Nami as Nami-ya and Robin as Nico-ya instead of his typical nicknames (Straw Hat-ya, Nose-ya, Black Leg-ya, Robo-ya, Bone-ya). From the group of Straw Hats (not counting Jimbe who in Wano joined the crew just before the battle and so Law did not have much a chance to interact yet), so far only:
Zoro and Nami are addressed by their real name
Robin and Chopper are addressed by their surname
Of course, this is debatable which Law’s way of addressing people is more respectable - the more straightforward by name (that from what I heard may not be so polite in Japanese culture) or by surname but there is no doubt that these four for this or another reason are unique.
→ Like Zoro, Trafalgar isn’t affected by female beauty. He does not shows any romantic or sexual atraction toward women and definitely is not perverted. In that regard alone, he is a pretty safe man to be around and I strongly believe it to be one of the reasons why Robin and Nami like and respect him. Generally speaking, Zoro and Law are introverted and at times difficult men and they do not give trust easily to people around them beside their respective crew members. Robin is especially appreciated by Law, what was seen in the flashback from Zou (chapter 996)
Law told Robin about his hidden D. name and even called her the only person he would tell this secret. However, does that means he wouldn’t trust Zoro or is that rather the fact that Roronoa - like Luffy - does not care and can’t give Law the needed answers he sought. In contrast, Robin has knowledge and skill to learn the truth but has no obligation to share information with Trafalgar. Law sharing a personal secret may be less about trust (though he did trust Robin, there is no doubt) and more about making a deal. He offered something personal, to show no ill will and to get in return the needed data.
→ The bond between Robin and Zoro deserves a separate analysis, but for now what is important is how similar they are. Both are the “darker” members of the crew, always ready to face any danger, to fight and, if necessary kill, putting their nakama’s wellbeing above anything else. Both are also introverted, perceptive and not easily trusting people around them. In the last regard, Robin and Zoro are similar to Law, so I strongly suspect this is why the three of them get along so well.
→ In the Dressrosa arc, Nami made a speech how Straw Hats can’t fail Law who sacrificed himself for their sake and for the success of the mission. Now, although Law and Nami did not clash at all, she didn’t show much open support for Law. Frankly, it feels like she was more supportive of Shinobu than him in her private talk with Usopp.
Next part: Supernovas
Au Where...
Roger isn't dead/dies
So Ace is born
Shanks&Buggy at 17 leave to become their own Captains while the others are settling down a little to wait for the baby.
(They still visit a lot)
((If they don't the Roger Pirates will hunt them down and make a big show of them being ungrateful children that never visit their family anymore))
Then Luffy is born
And Dragon decides to Spite his father by giving his son to his father's rival. (Plus with the way he was raised. Knowing how the elders are. (Not really wanting his kid to be raised to be a marine) (and knowing both Roger and Whitebeard are good dads (it was a toss up to who he should give Luffy to)
Then Ace finds Sabo on an island and adopts him
(The others decided this happened because Luffy is too young to play/fight him (Luffy2 Ace5 Sabo5)
When Sabo gets hurt badly they decide to leave him with Dragon while he heals and Sabo likes it too much and asks to stay)
When Ace was younger sometimes he'd get into fights with people on the Oro Jackson and run away to his mom.
One day she's rather to far away or siding with the others and he runs off to Whitebeard's ship.
(Or he really ran away this time (to be his own pirate instead of on his dad or mom's ship) And Whitebeard picks him up)
There was once when Luffy was 7 that the Roger Pirates and Red-Haired Pirates teamed up and Luffy got in trouble and hurt. Shanks saved him and gave him Roger's hat (which Shanks stole himself around Luffys age)
Someone made a comment about Luffy being the next Pirate King (crowned prince or something)
Ace when asked: "Pirate King is a lame title anyway. Why would I care"
Roger sulked until he found Luffy following him around and mimicking him
It lasted a week.
After Shanks lost his arm and Mihawk refused to spar with him Buggy found a child and decided to curse bless Mihawk with him.
Perona of course ends up with him too.
(Ok so maybe The Roger Pirates had business they couldn't take kids on (at least not Luffy yet) And Shanks was watching him)
(And so for Luffy's 7th birthday they decided to give Luffy an adventure.
It began in Dawn (meeting up with Garp for Garp to chase them around a bit)
Then Garp left and some bandits appeared (maybe Luffy didn't know that wasn't part of the surprise or something)(same with the Devil Fruit)
Maybe they taught him how to use his Devil Fruit or brought him to Buggy so they could help.
The East Blue arc of One Piece kinda happens with them as little kids.
Luffy+Koby+Zoro
Shanks crew find them (and Garp picks up Koby&Helmeppo) (And after Luffy declaring Zoro is his first mate decide to take him with them to find which island he lives on (they don't think stopping by every island in the East Blue is that bad an idea)
So they take them to Buggy's island (Where Buggy is trying to scare off a little thief and find out why she's trying to steal from him)
Luffy bullys Buggy for bulling Nami and "saves" her
The Red-Haired Pirates decide to take Nami home (and find out what's wrong) but first take a stop at Syrup Island to restock, meet up with Usopp, and see if Zoro lives there (unlikely but worth a shot) (The kids run off on their own really quickly and they don't see why not)
After finding out Usopp's mom is sick And after the kids Adventure (which actually freaks out the adults when they learned what happened)
They split up. Part of the crew going to the doctor (probably Kureha or Crocus) with the old ship and the others staying in East Blue to wait for Roger to come back on the Going Merry
They head to the Baratie to have Lunch/Dinner and maybe try to talk to Nami about why's she stealing.
Then they get interrupted by a pirate and then Mihawk.
(Sanji and Zeff get into a fight and Sanji runs away (Zeff knows this and asks Shanks to look after him while he cools down and so Sanji can hang out with his new friends for a bit)
Nami runs away with the Going Merry (to sell it) and the others go after them.
The Arlong Park Ark (kids version) (maybe Bell-mère is still alive)
Loguetown Ark... Buggy comes to help with the kids while they wait for the Roger Pirates. The kids decide to scatter.
The Roger Pirates show up. Shanks has to leave to his crew and the kids need to go home.
The kids don't want to go home and Luffy has been following/mimicking Roger for a bit and Roger hasn't gifted him anything yet. And what would it hurt to prolong the Adventure a bit.
A lot happens.
Luffy finds the rest of his crew and then the Red-Haired Pirates find them (The Roger Pirates) and yell at them. (And return the kids to their parents (with the promise to let the kids meet up in the future)) (Zoro somehow ends up with Mihawk)
That leaves Luffy with the Roger Pirates and the other "Worst Generation/Supernovas" on Saboady.
Roger Decides it's time for him to finally have a fleet (one that will absolutely scare the Marines/World Government (for many years to come. Long after his death)
(time for training)
Then Roger finds out Ace Ran Away to Whitebeard/Edward Newgate
Of crocodiles and rings and a possible connection to a teased weakness
Crocodile is a guy that is real extra and dresses sharp and loves his bling bling, right? He’s a man of high standards, so of course, he’s gotta wear bling to show that. Other bling loving characters are Capone Bege and Blackbeard for example. All three of them like to show off that bling. Now why do I mention the other two? Coz look at these three bling loving gentlemen, wearing rings on every finger and tell me where the difference lies. I’ll wait.
Exactly!
As opposed to Bege and Blackbeard, Crocodile doesn’t wear a ring on every finger. Obviously he cannot wear 10 rings coz he only got one hand with 5 fingers but he also never wears 5 rings. No, no. This guy, ladies and gentlemen, kinda makes it a point to always leave out one finger and that’s the ring finger. Ha- interesting.
Now, of course this could be mere coincidence. But let’s be realistic here, it’s Oda. He clearly has a reason for it as he’s been true to this detail ever since Crocodile was introduced over a decade ago and the only real question is ‘why’?
Why would Crocodile do that? He clearly loves wearing rings so why not wear them on every finger? Why leave out the ring finger for crying out loud? If one wanted to leave a finger without a ring, one would probably leave out the pinky or the thumb but who puts rings on every finger and leaves out the ring finger? I tell you who.
Crocodile. That’s who.
If you’re one who believes in symbolism and all that stuff, then you’d probably find it interesting that the ring finger symbolises releationships with others especially romantical ones as it is seen closest to the heart and therefore or because of it is the finger a wedding ring is worn on. In most cultures the engagement ring is worn on the right hand and the wedding ring on the left as the right hand is often the ‘physical’ one and has a greater visibility. It’s probably interesting to note that the left hand is considered to represent your character and beliefs. Ha. Interesting that Crocodile is missing that one, huh? Anyhow, in Crocodile’s case left or right hand doesn’t really matter as he only has one left (duh) so an argument can be made that sides don’t matter and the importance lies on the finger itself.
The way it looks right now is that he’s making a statement leaving out the ring finger and there are a few possibilites here. Of course it could be a family ring and he could be from an important family but really, not only would that be a bit to similar to Doflamingo, it would also not make sense to not just replace the family ring on the occations he’s not wearing it. But he never wears a ring on that finger so one can only come to the conclusion that there’s some sentimental thought behind that.
The most logical would be that there is a ring he believes should be on that finger. Either he’s keeping it free for a future event coz he doesn’t have the ring yet (which I doubt) or he’s keeping it free coz technically there already is a ring for the finger. This could be a ring he doesn’t have anymore and regrets it (like he lost it with his left hand or threw it away) or a ring he does have but decides not to wear for his own reasons. Whichever it is, it clearly has such an important value that he doesn’t just covers it up or replaces it.
Now, given the ring finger and it’s symbolism the thought of a wedding ring isn’t too far fetched. We don’t know enough about his past to say that he could never have been married so I think it’s worth looking into.
Let’s just imagine for a second, that the ring missing is indeed a wedding ring, what could that mean?
He could have had a wife but she died and even though he’d technically not be married anymore, people who lost their partner almost always keep their wedding ring as a memento. If they move on, they don’t wear it anymore but they often keep it. This could give another perspective to the ‘wounds’ Daz was referring to after Marineford as he was clearly not talking about Luffy’s physical wounds but about the emotional wounds that came with losing a loved one.
Crocodile could have had a wife but she betrayed him and he took the ring off as to break the relationship and connection. Then the choice to not wear a ring on that finger in the future could serve as a reminder to himself not to trust people, not even those close to you. This could possibly explain his huge trust issues.
However, these two scenarios, while possible, don’t strike me as the most likely simply due to the two following scenes:
“If you want to protect something, do it right!!”
This could be totally random and only refer to the moment at hand but it could also indicate that he knows a thing or two about how to successfully protect someone. Which leads us to the infamous
“I know one of his weaknesses ...!! But if he cooperates with us ... then I won’t say anything about it!!”
Think about it, the biggest weakness ANY pirate of Crocodiles caliber could have is a loved one or people they care about and their identity and location to be known by the public or enemies (marines, pirates etc.) because no matter how powerful a pirate you are, if information like that was to spread and reach the wrong ears, this could have catastrophic consequences for you and the people you care about. It’s used over and over in OP stories like when the marines hunted down Gol D. Rogers offspring and slaughtered all newborn who could potentially have been Roger’s child or when the marines swore to kill Luffy for being Dragon’s son or when Zeff was used as leverage to force Sanji to comply. I doubt anyone knows Usopp is Yasopp’s son or that he had a woman and child in Syrup village otherwise someone would have probably attacked them to get back at Yasopp. Maybe that’s one of the reasons he left them. As to protect them.
Ivankov and Croc met years ago when Croc was still considered a rookie, so in his early/mid twenties. If there is indeed a ring to that finger and the person is still alive, Ivankov could know her identity or location and this could totally be the weakness Ivankov was refering to. Of course this only works if the person is still alive.
Now I know, you’re probably scratching your head, thinking I might be a bit nuts going this direction considering it’s Crocodile we’re talking about but really, think about it. His choice of jewelry is mega weird so what could be the reaaon for it? Also it’s hardly the weirdest theory out there (looking at you femCroc theorists).
This would also tie in neatly with why he decided to have his Baroque agents working in teams of two with male/female. I mean, unlike other characters, he clearly doesn't seem to see women as the weaker sex and him having his agents work in pairs has to be grounded somewhere. Maybe he was raised like that and his parents where a good example of how well men and women complement each other or maybe he made the experience himself. If so, I tend to think that he wasn't betrayed by the woman... or maybe he was and that's one of the reasons why he was so paranoid and basically expected Robin to betray him. All possible, really.
It’s also apparent that Oda incorporates marriages a lot more often nowadays than he did in the early years of One Piece. Mr 9 and Mrs Mondey got married on a cover page and have a baby, Capone got married and his henchman Gotty married too, Sai and Baby 5 married, Sanji and Pudding were meant to marry and let’s not forget poor Senior Pink’s backstory.
Last but not least, I’d like to point out a seemingly random fan question Oda answered in an SBS which seems just kinda odd once you consider everything I said above.
Now the question focuses on “they never had a child” and “I wonder what faces their children would have”, yet Oda starts with “They’ve been to weddings before ...” ... WOW. Really? Why would he say that? XD No one even asked about weddings. Funny. So they’ve been to weddings, huh? As what? Guests? Grooms? You know? It doesn’t seem to mean anything but if you consider Crocodile’s rings and such imo it’s just a weird thing to say. Then the mysterious “I wouldn’t say whether they had children or not ...” .....
Note: Especially during Alabasta Oda often forgets to draw Croc’s rings at all or accidentally leaves out the wrong finger but he is consistent with the rings since Impel Down. He still forgets them from time to time but he doesn’t switch the fingers anymore so one could reason that he had a vague idea of Crocodile’s reasons behind the rings when he introduced him but only solidified it or gave it more details once Croc showed back up. The anime and games however often just leave out the wrong ring probably thinking that it doesn’t matter.
When Brooke awakens his Devil Fruit
Brooke never really thought he could awaken his devil fruit. It’s not like he can turn everything around him to string like Doflamingo. But along his journey and when Luffy becomes King of the Pirates, what he discovers is his awakening allows him to call back the souls of the dead. And he takes full advantage of this.
Brooke specifically waits for the right time to use it for his crew
Luffy:
He waits for Luffy, Sabo, and Garp to be back at their hole town with Makino, Dadan and the other Mountain bandits to have them speak to Ace one last time and tell him he was able to achieve his dream of becoming King of the Pirates. Ace tells Garp that he loves him and that he is sorry for all the pain he has caused him. He is overjoyed to see Sabo alive and thanks him for looking out for Luffy when he couldn’t and Sabo thanks him for the same. Dadan and Makino are overjoyed seeing those three reunited again. Maybe call White beards Soul and Gold Rogers for Ace as well. Roger meeting Luffy and being proud to have someone like Luffy be the next king of the pirates. Luffy made sure to have Shanks and Rayleigh there too so theycan see his old Captain. Roger tells Shanks that he did a job and gave his hat to a worthy man. Rayleigh gets to see his bestfriend one more time and Roger thanks him for helping train Luffy. Roger thanks Garp for taking care of Ace for him and Garp just punches him because he is about to cry (Maybe have Kobe there as a Bonus because Luffy values his friendship and wants to introduce him to his brothers)
Zoro:
They travel to Zoro’s hike town with his sensei and call back Kuina’s soul so he can tell her he achieved his dream and became the worlds greatest swordsman. He tells her that he made sure to take extra care of her sword and that he never forgot their promise to each other and trained hard every day. He even pokes fun at her talking about how Tashigi looks and acts just like her and how she has been chasing him all over the world so it was like Kuina was also chasing after him, trying to achieve her dream which made Zoro train even harder.
Nami:
They return to Cocoyasi Village to meet up with Nojiko and Genzo and call back Bellmere soo they can talk to her again and Nami tells her she achieved her dream of drawing a map of the entire world. She tells her mom about all her travels and how she found a family that can always make her smile. She even shows her the Tangerine trees in the Sunny saying she grows them exactly the same way to make sure her nakama get to have a taste of Bellmere’s tangerines.
Usopp:
They call Usopp’s mom’s soul at his home town so he can tell her he became a brave warrior of the see like his father. He tells her all the adventures he has been on. He starts off by saying “Hi mom. You came back to us” like he used to say about his father. His Dad standing beside him saying that Usopp keep his promise and became a brave pirate, even more great than himself. He introduces his mom and dad to Kaya. His mom absolutely loves her and is happy he found someone. They bond when his mom tells Kaya that it will be hard to love Usopp since he is a pirate and neve home and Kaya responds saying she knows it may be hard, but if Usopp is free, and happy that is all she could ask for. Besides, that the kind of man she fell in love with in the first place.
Sanji:
They meet up with Zeff at the Baratie and call back Sanji’s mom’s soul to tell her that he became and amazing chef and found the all blue. Sanji’s mom thanks Zeff for looking after her son and for teaching him how to be a great chef. Everyone at the Baratie wonder how someone as annoying and argumentative as Sanji could ever come from such a sweet woman. Then Sanji kicks them and they all laugh. (Luffy asked Nami to contact Reiju and tell them to come because he knew she would want to see her kids again and they would love it so Sanji is with his siblings, Judge, and Zeph. Sanji wasn’t happy about it but he realized they were her family too and he couldn’t just keep them from speaking to their mom one more time. Even if most of them are jerks) Sanji shows his mom his cooking by cooking a special meal for her. A variation of the first meal he ever made for her. She says it’s the most wonderful food she has ever tasted and can tell that she actually meant it (i know I know. How can she eat if she’s a soul? Just go with it) Reiju tells her mom she loves her and how sorry she is for not taking better care of Sanji. Her mom tells her what a wonderful job she did and that she loves her. The other brothers finally show emotion that they never knew they could. Seeing their mom again after she died woke something up in them and they apologize for being dicks their entire life and that they love her. She responds by saying that they are her sons and she loves them no matter what. She tells her children what fine and strong people they became. Judge even apologizes to her for everything he’s done (What Sanji did during the Whole Cake Arc really made them reevaluate their life)
Chopper:
They return to The Sakura Kingdome to see Doctor Kureha and Dalton, where they call back Dr. Hiriluk’s should back to tell him that his son went out to see and became an doctor and travelled the seas as a pirate just like Hiriluk wanted. They also recreate his powder again and show him the cherry blossoms one last time before his soul returns to beyond the grave. Chopper even teacher Hiriluk the new things he learned while at sea and all the different diseases and things he has cured. Hiriluk is happy his son went out to sea and thankful when Chopper tells him what Luffy did for him and his flag even before he really knew chopper.
Robin:
Even though they cannot return to Robin’s home, they sail the Sunny to where the island used to be located and call back Robin’s mom and the others archaeologists so Robin can see her mother again and tell them about the lost history. She tells her mom about the Poneglyphs and the other ancient cities she found like Skypiea. As a bonus Brooke also calls back Jaguar D. Saul and Robin tells him that she found her nakama who will protect and cherish her and will never leave her. Saul thanks the Strawhats and after hearing what they did for her at Enies Lobby, he knew she found an amazing crew. He even laughed and smiles at the story saying that Robin has joined one crazy crew. Saul took one last long look at the people who would challenge the world if it meant protecting Robin and knew that she would never be lonely and sad again. Her mother gave her a hug and said she’s happy that she survived the buster call and how proud she is for becoming an archaeologist and finding out the lost history.
Franky:
They return to Water 7 and meet with Granny Kokoro and call back Tom’s soul. Cranky gets to tell him that he created a ship that sailed across the entire world just like he did and is now the shipwright to the new King of the Pirates. Iceberg tells him that he is working on or completed making Water 7 float. Tom is proud of the man iceberg became, and how successful and beloved he is as the mayor of Water 7. Tom takes a look at the Sunny and says it’s even greater than anything he could have built including the Oro Jackson, Roger’s ship. He admires the work and detail Frank put into the ship and could tell that the crew loved their ship very much. Tom meets Nico Robin and apologizing for doubting her and believing she would use her knowledge for evil. Robin smiles and says it’s ok and they talk all night. Tom meets the Franky Family, the people willing to storm Enies Lobby to save Franky. He thanks them and The Strawhats for saving his son hd apologizes to Franky and Iceberg for even putting them through that by passing down the Pluton blueprints. They laugh it off and Franky says he is actually thankful to have had them because without it, he would have never joined the Strawhats and build the ship of his dream.
Jinbe:
They return to Fishman island where they reunite with Shirahoshi, and her family. With Jinbe, the recall Fisher Tiger and Queen Otohime’s soul. They get to tell the two that the relationship between fishmen and humans have gotten better. Jinbe can tell Fisher Tiger all he had accomplished including jointing the Strawhats. Shirahoshi and her family can tell Otohime that they returned to they participate in discussions with the world government and other countries and have a good relationship with humans. Shirahoshi tells her mom about how Luffy taught her to be brave. They both leave knowing their species is in good hands and thank the Strawhats for being the gateway to the fishmen co-existing with humans
Brooke:
When they return and see Laboon again, Brooke calls back the spirits of his old crew so they can all keep their promis to Laboon. They play their music for Laboon again so he can hear the real thing instead of the recording (don’t ask me how they can play jules if if their dead just go along with it. It’s sweeter that way). Brooke can introduce his old crew to his new one, telling his old captain not to worry because even with them gone, he has found a new place he can call home.
Vivi: (and the rest of the crew)
If Vivi’s father dies (because it seems like that may happen) They return to Alabasta and Vivi and Karoo get to see the King Nefertari again and maybe her mom too considering I don’t actually know what happened to her. Vivi is happy to meet to new crew members and love how none of them have changed personality wise. Robin apologizes nonstop and Vivi forgives her in a second. She says that anyone Luffy likes is a good person so Robin doesn’t need to apologize anymore. She even thanks her for not telling Crocodile where Pluton is and for all the times she has saved Luffy. While there at Alabasta, he aslo calls back the spirit of the Going Merry. The very same Klabautermann that saved them time after time. They thought about doing this at Usopp’s village but he said that Vivi was once a part of their crew too and deserves the chance to see the Merry again. The spirit of the merry is happy they found a new ship to call home and is thankful to Franky building the ship. It even says that it knew of the ship because part of her spirit is still with them, on the mini merry and thanks Franky for building it out of her wood. This causes every to cry saying how happy they are that the Merry is still with them (yes even Zoro. He tried to not cry but couldn’t help it. He turned around thinking Sanji would make fun of him But Sanji knew that he could never make fun of him for this). Usopp and Luffy immediately says that the mini merry cannot be in the docking stations anymkre and bring her onto the deck. No one disagrees or argues with them.
Law:
As a thanks to Trafalgar Law for all his help and everything they’ve been through, they call back Corazone’s soul and he tells him that he loves him and is greatful for everything he did for him. He introduces him to the Heart pirates, named in honor of Corazone and shows him that he made the right decision in saving his life. Law also insisted that Sengoku be there because he loved Corazone like a son. Sengoku at this point is retired and he’s never admit this, but he is happy that Law and Luffy met because it gave him another moment with the man he viewed as a son. (Sengoku also couldn’t help but notice how much alike Luffy and Garp are. Especially when Garp was Luffy’s age and laughs knowing how much trouble Luffy will give the Navy considering the amount of trouble Garp gave the Navy and he worked for them)
Rebecca:
They return to Dressrosa and let Rebecca,Kyros, Viola and the other see Scarlett again where she sees that her daughter grew up to be an amazing woman and that Kyros has protected ever since.
Momonosuke:
They Return to Wano and Momonosuke, Hiyori, kin and the other Samurai can see Oden again and his wife. Momonosuke can tell his father that he is following in his footsteps in order to become a great Shogun to make sure Wano prospers. Hiyori tells her father that she gave his sword, Enma, to Zoro. She thought he’d be mad so she tried to explain to him that he saved her life, Saved Wano, and is a worthy swordsman but Oden stops her midway saying that he doesn’t care about the sword. He’s just happy his family is safe and that if she gave his sword away, he knows that it would have been for a good cause and to someone worthy. The other Samurai get to tell Oden that they avenged him and saved his country like they promised. They even bring back Yasui so his daughter can see him again. Momonosuke also introduce his father to O-Tama and his father likes her and thinks she’s a good math for his son. Momonosuke blushes but Luffy, Kin, Nami, Robin, Sanji, Zoro and honestly everyone agrees and already consider them as a couple. Brooke even brings back Ryuma so they can clear Zoro’s name of stealing Shisui. Zoro spars with Ryuma and Oden. Their fight changes the geography of Wano a bit.
Carrot:
They go to Zou and call back Pedro’s soul so Carrot and everyone can see him. Carrot thanks him and shows him how strong she became. Luffy thanks him for sacrificing himself for him and Pedro is happy knowing the Dawn of the New World that he believed was coming has finally arrived. He never regretted his sacrifice for a second.
I’m assuming there is a 24 hour limit to each soul called back or something like it. But if not consider that after they each have their own individual heartfelt moment with their loved ones that they lost, the Strawhats bring EVERYONE, and yes I mean everyone that was mentioned, to Laugh Tale for a huge party. All the souls of the departed that where mentioned meet each other and celebrate the Luffy becoming King of the Pirates. Roger, Rayleigh and Whitebeard get to see Oden again. Nami ends up punching Gold Roger for doing something stupid on a reflex thinking it was Luffy. It actually really hurts Roger and as Nami apologizes, Bellmere looks proudly at her. Luffy laughs and Nami beats him up twice as hard. Roger, Whitebeard, Shanks, Oden and Fisher Tiger are now scared of her. They know Luffy has the best Navigator in the world, but are wondering if it’s worth it with him much she has punched Luffy in the short time they’ve know her. All while Brooke and the Rumbar Pirates play Bink’s Sake the entire time.
(If someone wants to make art of this, please do and tag me in it so I can see it and cry of happiness)
Throwing uta into Golden!ASL would be hilarious if you think about it because(I still haven't seen Red) they find Uta when Luffy is like ten and they're so excited to see each other and he begs Mihawk to take her with them and he just fucking agrees. Like sure, he can be a father of four emotionally fucked up children it's fine. He's the greatest swordsman in the world what could go wrong?
A lot, she's developing her power with her fruit and now he has to add that to his training repertoire but at least she takes to book learning like Sanji, with eagerness. Mihawk just has four kids, two of which are feral and are turning the other two feral steadily. Mihawk is surprised he doesn't drink more honestly. Mihawk knows if he drinks more than a glass or two of wine a day they will likely be living in tents for the foreseeable future though. Also she and Sanji would probably get along so fucking well because fucking hell knows Sanji needs a to see woman who can fight and everything because Zeff keeps trying to tell him otherwise and Uta would probably kick Zeff in the dick imo. So would Nami and Vivi and most women in the OP verse. He just also needs a girl/woman outside of Germa who isn't terminally ill or modified to actually like him and keep his head on straight when he goes to Baratie full time.
Like she still becomes an icon and everything and whatever happens in red happens except she doesn't die(I know that bit) through like, sheer force of will but also her brothers are there. I don't know, it's probably important she does but I refuse to fridge characters. She says the government is dumb for trying to execute Ace for his parentage and no one bats an eye because she's like untouchable almost?
When Mihawk runs into Shanks, Mihawk just fucking knocks the man down with such a solid punch and yells at him that Shanks should stop finding children and making them like him because he's had to deal with that twice now and if it happens anymore Mihawk's going to fucking lose it. Shanks asks what he means but Mihawk fucking loses it and lists off Luffy and Uta's abandonment issues, how Luffy's crew actually functions as well as Uta and Luffy just fucking having constant depression and PTSD that Shanks compounded on and Mihawk isn't even going to start on his other two kids but shanks fucked two of them up decently with expectations and leaving so. Yasopp shouldn't speak because if he does Mihawk will strangle him for abandoning Usopp.
Like also imagine a family portrait that Uta has of her brothers and second dad and her gets leaked. The world finding out Mihawk raised those four would shatter so many perceptions of him. Like no one thinks he would have a kind bone in his body yet there is proof of the man fucking smiling in the middle of his teenage children. Shanks trying to understand everything is probably breaking him but also he sends Mihawk a shirt of the "dad that stepped up" and in return he received a box of broken glass.
Ah finally open! I love reading what you write ❤️ If I can please do headcanon with Crocodile, Zoro and Kid how they react when they figure out their s/o pregnancy!
Hehehe, it's always a pleasure to see that you're happy when I open! 💖 Ooooooh love this!!!! This is so cute!!! Thanks for the ask!
Hope you will enjoy it ~
Crocodile :
• Crocodile doesn't really appreciate the idea to have a family. Basically is a grown-up man who already is 47 years old, and doesn't have time to have a kid to fool around. He doesn't want one, and he's more than sure of this choice
• When he figures out that you might have something hidden in your belly, Crocodile first, observes you closely. He can't believe that you have been so reckless, and hopes that you just have a sort of fleeting illness, and nothing else
• But the more you start to show, and the more he understands you are actually carrying his child. And for a moment... Crocodile is more than pissed and disappointed by your attitud. He wants you to spit it, and you will need to have some nerves to handle his harsh words and his sassy nature, now that you're busted with your little secret
• Crocodile needs plenty of time to analyze the situation, and during those long days, you don't feel really desired or even loved. If he can actually avoid you, you better be sure that your cold old-man will do his best to keep his distances with you. He needs to think, and to find a proper way to handle this unwanted surprise. It's difficult, and harsh for you, but at least you're not suffering from his everlasting cold stare, or his mean sentences
• But deep down... Crocodile starts to feel... thrilled by the idea to have a heir, when he allows himself to think about it, alone in his office. He wishes that his empire continues to grow, and what a better option but to have a legacy in this world. He starts to imagine his life with a smart kid on his lap, slowly learning the codes and the tricks of his business, while he's now more than certain he's going to be proud of this kid
• Crocodile, eventually ready, sends Daz Bonez to shop for you, and for the kid to come, and one morning, you'll wake up with dozens of bags with many different gifts for you, but also for your baby, and you understand that Crocodile is now ready to accept the idea to become a father
• He keeps a close eye on you, and doesn't really care if it doesn't please you ; you see the best doctors, your alimentation is watched closely, and you can't come and go as much as you want. He makes sure that you stay calm, relax and well, so there's no problems with you or the baby
• More than often, when you're at that state that you can't hide your pregnancy anymore, Crocodile checks on you in the middle of the night, his only hand wandering on your swollen tummy, making sure that everything is fine. He doesn't tell you anything, but it tends to worry, his profound possessive nature burning inside of him when he lays his eyes on your sleepy face that he loves so much
• You sometimes bust him with something else but his traditional business notes in his hand when you drop by his office, as he reads some books about the fatherhood and having children, but he immediately puts them away, keeping a cold face as he denies his reading and proposes you to have a walk in the garden
• In the end, Crocodile is more present, and tender. He tries his best to offer you some quality time, and clears his schedule to spend some time with you. He didn't want to have a child, yes, but having one with you seem like the best option in his life, and you feel it deeply
Zoro :
• Zoro loves to have unprotected sex with you, but he's absolutely lost when it comes to the consequences. He knows how you make babies, of course, but sticking his fourth sword inside of you doesn't mean you're going to have some brat soon... right?
• So Zoro is absolutely clueless when you finally tell him that you're carrying his child... He first thinks that you're goofing around, and he snaps at you that it's really not something funny. But in front of your serious and disappointed look, Zoro understands that you are pregnant
• He panics, and doesn't know how to react. He yells at you that you've been stupid, then he yells at everyone one the ship because, well, it's their fault as well! They didn't tell him that you'd carry his child someday if he keeps having sex like this with you... And he was certainly not ready for this kind of news!
• He sees that you are hurt by his reaction, but he doesn't really find a way to make things better, at first. He can't look at you in the eyes, not because he's mad at you, but because he's absolutely lost and terrified. He knows how to fight enemies, and monsters, but stepping so early in the fatherhood while he's nothing but reckless and imprudent? He feels so bad and unsure about it...
• He needs to talk, but not with you, and after the first period of panic, now he's seeking for help with the older members of the crew. Robin is his best ally, and more than once he looks for her and asks her what he should do, making sure that now one else on the deck see him this way ; and thanks to the raven-haired woman, Zoro knows that he needs to support you, now more than ever
• Clumsily, Zoro makes some efforts to help you along with your pregnancy. Still a bit grumpy and hesitant, he carries whatever you have in the arms, he also circles your waist and helps you going down the stairs (even if you laugh that you're not disabled). He even watches what you're eating during lunches and dinners, asking if this is truly a good meal for you under the dark stares of Sanji (who certainly prepared the best meal for you!)
• After a moment, Zoro finally dares to touch your belly, and it becomes a sort of addiction and a real pleasure. Often, he plasters his large hand on your tummy, enjoying the roundness and the softness of the spot, while he says nothing, but simply drags you even closer
• He's much more tender, despite his lack of confidence on the fact that he's going to be a father. Even in public, he sometimes puts a kiss on your neck, or brushes your arm, his eyes always looking at your swollen tummy and the fact that there's a piece of him growing in there
• Oh you better be sure that no one will ever get close to you! Harsh, possessive, Zoro shows his teeth whenever someone approaches, and you feel utterly protected by your man. It's almost like an instinct within him, and Zoro wouldn't really admit that he tends to lose it when you're around
• Yes, of course, he hopes that you're going to have a lil' warrior, and that he will be able to teach him some sword moves. He definitely accepts that he's going to be a father, and even if he keeps this thought for himself, everyone knows how much he's happy about the situation
Kid :
• Oh... the most difficult topic you would ever have to bring on the table is finally here. You know how much Kid hates children and weak creatures, and for a moment, you're truly afraid about his reaction
• And frankly, you were right. As soon as Kid understands that you're pregnant, you can only picture his angry stare, and that look of disgust spreaded on his face. He's terribly mad at you, because the fun part of having you in bed was because he was sure you weren't stupid enough to get knock up
• He tells you to piss off, and to go away, and for a long time, you are almost sure that Kid is that close to throw you out of his boat. You feel desperate, because you can't even wish to have a word with him. He turns his feet when he crosses your road, he slams his door if you walk in front of it, and he snaps you to get away from his sight whenever you enter the kitchen room for dinner time
• For a long, very long moment, you're alone with your thoughts, and only Killer is there to make you feel slightly better. He reassures you a lot, and says that Kid is someone brutal and stupid, but if you are still around, it's because he wants you but he needs to man-up, and he will accept the situation
• So one day, and out of nowhere, Kid slams your door open and walks angrily to your bed, sliding his body in your sheets to suddenly drag you against his chest, sighing heavily, as if he's doing the greatest effort of his life. "If you pick a dumb name, I swear I'm not recognizing your shrimp." He snaps, putting your face against his chest so you don't see his embarrassed features
• From an absolutely walking nightmare, Kid suddenly becomes your brutal guardian angel. He's always by your side, pushing people if he believes they walk too closely, throwing his middle finger in the air if someone dares looking at you. He tends to overreact, but deep down, it makes you feel so good to be protected this way
• "Kid is having a baby" becomes the main topic on board, and hell yes, he's bragging at the dinner table, saying that he's going to have a warrior, and a damn good pirate, and you can't even say anything, watching your man getting all excited about his fatherhood, arguing loudly to whoever dares not to follow his ambitions about his child
• He's completely lost for the baby stuff though... He thinks that you doesn't need anything particular, and when Killer comes back from town with baby clothes, dummies and diapers, for the first time he keeps it quiet and looks at all of this with some curious eyes
• When you're lied in bed in the afternoon because you're absolutely lifeless, he wants to talk about all the things his kid would do, and despite your tiredness and the fact that you heavily wish to nap, Kid keeps you up for hours, talking about his dreams and hopes for your child, his hand sometimes touching your tummy
• You wouldn't know how much Kid is proud to become a father, and despite his violent and harsh nature, you certainly feel his love for you in his proud stare on you, whenever he slaps his hand on your rear, and greets you with a carnal smile and a "that's my girl here", full of an endless desire. You're his woman, his love and his treasure, and you understand how much he's going to love his kid
Dabi and the awkward black ballon: a narrative comparison between Touya Todoroki and Vinsmoke Sanji
Hello everyone!
I’m really thrilled about this whole situation , I can’t stop coming up with ideas!
This is about Dabi, Hawks and the black balloon. I’m making this post because I’m totally convinced that Dabi hadn’t tell Hawks he was Touya Todoroki. He might have said something that implied it, but I think that this is not all he told to Hawks. I’ll try to cover others possibility in another post, but to consolidate my position I wants to draw another comparison.
This time is between Dabi and Black Leg Sanji from Eiichiro Oda’s great masterpiece: One Piece.
One Piece is a worldwide famous and one of the most important and best sellers manga of this generation. It doesn’t matter if you like it or not: at some point if your life if you like mangas you’re bound to hear One Piece sooner or later.
For those who never read/ disliked it, Black Leg Sanji is one of the main crew character and soon after his introduction he haunted fans with one question: who he really is?
In years hints became gradually more important; however One Piece is full of adventure and emotional moments so you’re bound to forget about it from time to time... just to be reminded that he’s hiding something.
I don’t know what Horikoshi thinks about One Piece, but I think he should know one or two things about it at least . Oda is considered one hell of a mangaka, being able to tie plot lines among the years, so if I were Horikoshi I’d give a look at One Piece to take inspiration. You have to consider this is a good way to avoid having a copycat event in two mangas published on the same magazine.
I’ll explain briefly who Sanji is.
Sanji is the cook of the Straw Hat pirates and he was (almost forcibly) recruited by Luffy before they entering in the Grand Line making him one of the first nakama.
He was introduced with the nickname “Black Leg”, inherited by his boss who raised him like father ( “Red Leg Zeff”). Zeff tried to assault the cruise ship Sanji was working on as a kid, but they both shipwrecked. When they were saved Zeff took Sanji they met Luffy.
In One Piece names are extremely important, but back then readers really hasn’t that feeling and before Sanji, both Nami and Usopp didn’t have a family name. So no one was impressed.
The first foreshadowing something was off happens around Skypeia arc. In fact all the first straw hat pirates (Zoro, Nami and Usopp) were said to be from East blue, thus everyone thought Sanji was too. However after finding a book Nami never heard of, Sanji gave a brief recap adding casually he was from North Blue instead .
A recurring fun gag about him is that when he finally gained his wanted poster an awful drawing of him was placed instead of his photo. Later on another character was introduced: Duval, who is the spit image of the bleak drawing. As funny as it can be, Duval was persecuted for many time, guaranteeing Sanji wasn’t found.
The biggest red herring Sanji gave was around chapters 480+. In front an honourable yet powerful enemy, Sanji was ready to sacrifice his life for his captain’s sake , underlining that he is someone important due to his background.
After that many theories were edited. And this went on for YEARS.
Until, chapter 800+. Around thst arc we finally get to know his full name and backstory. Vinsmoke Sanji was the third male son of a fallen aristocratic family. He had 3 brothers and one sister, an abusive father and a mother who was locked away in a medical facilities. In fact when she was pregnant, her husband forced on her some scientific experiment to turn their kids in the “perfect soldiers” stripping out every sign of humanity from them. She, trying to save her children for this bleak fate, took a medicine to inverse the process. In the end only Sanji was spared and had a kind heart, while she had a chronic illness that few years later killed her. Sanji then was considered a failure by his own father , enough to fake his own death and putting him in a jail. He then escaped to East Blue thanks to his sister who helped him.
Now, Enji seems to be a loving father when compared to Vinsmoke Judge.
Despite Sanji and Dabi’s story being quite similar , what I want to point out it’s the timing.
Oda foreshadowed this for years and gradually. And when the time was about to come, he added even more details to build Sanji’s great revelation. Once it was declared he was a Vinsmoke there was no turning back and all of his past was known in the following chapters. Of course it took some time to develop it all, but Vinsmokes were brand new characters, while Todoroki are very well known, so I expected Touya’s past to be introduced soon after his revelation, like it happened.
My main concern is... why.
Horikoshi chose an approach similar to Oda.
He show us Todoroki siblings one after another. He hinted Touya had a powerful fire type quirk, yet his body couldn’t stand it. He hinted about his death even before Natsuo spoke about it openly, having Fuyumi praying in one panel. In My Villain Academia he inserted baby Fuyumi’s panel. When Dabi was first introduced he spoke like Shoto does and he made clear he wanted to keep his name a secret. We then were reminded that nobody knew who Dabi was, but instead he was thinking about family and hold a personally grudge against Todorokis.
And that’s was fine! It was exactly like Sanji’s and to be expected.
in chapter 267 at the peak of drama the big black balloon happened. I was both intrigued and excited about it because it was something different and new when compared with the iconic One Piece. And so I guessed that we would have to wait a lot of time before knowing the truth. Then chapter 290 happened.
Now, if you compared Sanji’s reveal with Touya’s reveal your noticed that Sanji took years since his first introduction. The most significant and last foreshadowing can be considered his wanted poster, which after Dressrosa arc finally had his picture and full name on it, with the status of “wanted only alive”.
The huge unnerving block balloon was like Sanji’s poster: the moment everyone saw it they thought Dabi said “I’m Touya” as much as everyone said “Sanji’s theory about being some sort of prince/ son of an important family it’s true”.
And it works! Because the moment we knew Touya was Dabi we would have wanted to know how Touya turned into Dabi, as much as what happened to Sanji.
What it doesn’t sound right it why hiding that dialogue with a black ballon in chapter 267 to give us the truth only 6 months later when One Piece took his own sweet time with Sanji.
To me this makes absolutely no sense at all.
But Horikoshi decided differently than One Piece. And illogically.
The only way this would actually makes any sense is if Dabi said something else to Hawks. Or rather: what if he said he was Touya but with another meaning? With last chapters we were overloading with new informations about Dabi/ Touya. So the black balloon isn’t that interesting to us anymore. And conveniently Hawks is out of the games for the moment, so we don’t expect him to say something about it. It might be argued that we don’t need to, not anymore.
However after that sentence which took and entire panel Hawks should have something to say, and he can’t bothered the reader with something we already know.
This comparison ties perfectly with Anakin
Skywalker’s: in fact after years it was Sanji’s turned to be talked about. His identity moved One Piece’s story one arc forward.
Instead about Anakin... audience didn’t really need his backstory. It was something you wanted to know, but the story could have worked just fine: you just needed to know Vader was Luke’s father to understand why he saved the Jedi at the cost of his own life.
I thus expect we’ll dig up more into Dabi’s past in the following arcs; no, I’m not delusion: Dabi being Touya won’t move the plot much forward aside from the hero society being totally ruined. And neither will end the Todorokis drama.
The situation is dire, of course, and heroes will have it hard. But still, society needs heroes so they can’t just give up on them. Things will change and won’t change at the same time cause even in the worst case scenario, in which Endeavor and Hawks will stop working and all heroes are fired someone needs to take a stand against Shigaraki.
Touya’s death instead might give another push forward, giving the Todoroki arc a deserved ending.
Bear in mind that this doesn’t mean Dabi can’t die. He totally can. But if into Touya’s death a secret lies this can be useful for upcoming future arcs, even if I doubt Dabi will die here and now.
Hey, i would like a character match up! I'm very small, 1,48m to be exact, have curly brown hair and grey eyes. I always wanted to work at a book store, but family plans "got in the way". I cant wait to have children. I dont have a good relationship with my parents or brother. I like cooking, baking, arts and cozy blankets. I love dresses and daisies, and i would like to call myself a cottage witch, even if i dont have much experience yet. The match up can be male or female! Or maybe both 👀
Hi Anon!!
Thanks for requesting! I hope you like it 💛
I match you with...
Sanji!
You and Sanji make a great match and share a lot of similarities.
His favourite of course is that you both share a love of cooking and baking and food in general. Sanji adores being able to cook with you, crafting masterpieces in the kitchen as well as making changing and improving dishes to make them your own.
He is always impressed with your baking skills and your ability to make the best desserts. Sanji isn't jealous of course, he thinks you're amazing and always asks your advice when he's baking, just in case you have any tips he hasn't learned yet.
Unfortunately, Sanji can relate quite well to not getting on with family – he never pushes the issue with you as to why you don't have a good relationship with them but he is always there and willing to listen should you ever wish to discuss it with him. He is always supportive, in all aspects of life, but with this especially he is patient and understanding. Sanji had such a traumatic upbringing that he hates that thought that you might have had a similar experience.
Sanji loves seeing you in your dresses. He adores the way you look when your standing at the railing with the wind in your hair, floral dress swinging in the vreeze. He is more than happy to come with you shopping and give his opinion on the various ones you try – though he always likes all of them so it's very unhelpful if you actually want some assistance.
The size difference between the two of you doesn't matter to Sanji. He's more then happy to lean down to give you a peck on the cheek as he passes on the ship or have you sit on his lap when the two of you are cuddling. In fact his most favourite thing to do is to snuggle up under one of your cosy blankets on a stormy night.
While Sanji might have been a flirt before he is furiously loyal to you once you're together. He is still courteous to other women but they just dont hold his interest anymore. Like you he wants a family, and while he doesnt have much to go on for a healthy family unit, he knows that the two of you will make great parents.
While Sanji has little interest himself in your witchy passions, but he's always supportive of anything you enjoy so he's happy to let you use the kitchen to dry herbs. When you get to a new island and you and Chopper go to gather plants, Sanji will come along and help, bringing an amazing picnic for the three of you.
Other Possible Match Ups:
Koala: Despite her own past and time spent as a slave, Koala is a very kind and caring person. She never had much of a family before the revolutionary army (even though she cared very much for the sun pirates) so when she finds out about your poor relationship with your own family she makes sure you know you have a place with her. Koala is very fond of books and she loves when the two of you can curl up together under a blanket and spend the day reading together. She loves when you cook for her and always makes sure to compliment you on all your delicious creations. She can cook herself but isnt nearly as good as you, but she'll always try and make something special for you.
