Maharashtra Unfiltered: Raw Politics, Daily Delivered – 22 November 2024
The political scene in Maharashtra is very tense right now because the state is waiting for the results of the November 20, 2024, assembly elections. The votes will be counted on November 23, and both the Mahayuti union, which is in power, and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which is in opposition, have a lot at stake [1, 5]. Important Political Events Setting of the Election The Maharashtra Assembly elections are very important because they are a race between the Mahayuti alliance, which is made up of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Shiv Sena, which is led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and a part of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar. The MVA is made up of the Congress, the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray group of the Shiv Sena, and another group of the NCP led by Sharad Pawar. This election is especially important because it comes after a rough time when political alliances and realignments have changed many times, leaving many voters disappointed [1, 2, 3]. - Advertisement - Guesses Based on Exit Polls As of today, exit polls show that the Mahayuti party might win, with predictions of between 178 and 200 seats out of 288, while the MVA is expected to get between 82 and 102 seats [4, 6]. However, some polls show that there may not be a clear winner in the assembly election. This could mean that there will be a lot of intense talks and more political maneuvering after the results [2, 3]. Conflicts within the company There is already fighting going on within both of the main groups, even before the counting starts. For example, there is disagreement over who should be Chief Minister if either party wins it. The head of the Maharashtra Congress, Nana Patole, has said that the MVA government will be led by the Congress. Other MVA leaders, like Sanjay Raut [7][8], have spoken out against this claim. This disagreement shows how competitive politics are in Maharashtra and also shows how tense things can get within party partnerships in general. 1 Voter Participation and Turnout - Advertisement - About 66.05% of eligible voters showed up to vote in this election, which is higher than in previous years and suggests that people are more interested in politics [1, 4]. This rise in participation could be due to a number of things, such as successful campaigning by both alliances and a growing desire among citizens to have a say in how their government runs in the face of economic and social problems. What this means for Maharashtra’s politics The results of these polls will have a big impact on the way politics work in Maharashtra. A second term for Mahayuti could strengthen the BJP’s grip on the state and Eknath Shinde’s leadership. On the other hand, if MVA is able to take back power, it could mean a comeback for traditional parties like Congress and change how India’s voters will vote in the future [5, 9]. - Advertisement - How People Feel The public’s mood seems to be mixed; many people are angry about the unstable government and shifting allegiances that have been the norm in recent years. People are paying more attention to candidates than to parties because they don’t trust political systems [6]. This change could make future elections less predicted because voters will put the honesty of each candidate ahead of loyalty to the party. Bottom Line All eyes will be on November 23, because Maharashtra is about to get poll results that could change everything. It’s not just the choices voters make that will affect local government; they could also have an effect on India’s politics as a whole as parties change their plans to meet the changing needs of voters. In the days to come, it will be very important to see not only who runs Maharashtra but also how its people interact with their democracy going forward

MVA govt can’t be intimidated by ED, CBI probes: Thackeray
Tumblr media
MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has hit out at the BJP for indulging in “politics of vendetta” and said his Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government cannot be intimidated by the ED and the CBI probes. He said this in an interview to Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who is also the executive editor of the party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, on the occasion of the MVA government completing a year in office on Saturday. “This government has the blessings of people and it cannot be intimidated by ED and CBI probes,” Thackeray said. “There is no end to vendetta politics. I am not in favour in taking this path. Stop this political perversity,” he said. His statement comes three days after the Enforcement Directorates (ED) conducted raids at the premises linked to Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik in Mumbai and neighbouring Thane in connection with a money-laundering case. The chief minister expressed confidence that his government comprising Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress will complete the next four years in office and said that it is up to the people to decide after that. Thackeray said NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Congress president Sonia Gandhi showed political courage to join hands with the Shiv Sena to form the MVA government last year. “Some people thought these three parties will not come together and that the Shiv Sena had no option but to go behind them,” he said without naming the BJP. The Shiv Sena and the BJP had contested the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections together, but the alliance fell apart after results following differences over sharing the chief ministerial post. The Shiv Sena, which won 56 seats, had said the two parties had reached such an understanding before the elections, a claim denied by the BJP. The Sena then joined hands with the NCP and the Congress to form the government. On the BJP’s claim that it would wrest the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from the Shiv Sena in the 2022 civic polls, Thackeray said the BMC, which is controlled by his party, was a strong fortress of trust for the Sena. “Mumbaikars will not allow the fortress to crumble,” he said. Slamming the BJP out without naming it for targeting his son and state minister Aaditya Thackeray in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, he said, “When I am challenged, I am encouraged. Don’t misjudge my demeanor of composure and patience.” “Even you have families and children, and you are not clean. Not just me, but the people of the state will teach you a lesson,” Thackeray said. “Politicisation of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death was cheap politics…worse than perversity,” he said. He admitted that he had no experience of running a government and administration, but his family had a history of serving the people. “There is excellent cooperation from allies in running the administration. While presiding over cabinet meetings, what surprises me is that all colleagues from Congress and NCP give me so much respect, although we were political rivals till recently.” “There is no tightrope walk. We have gelled with each other very well. I was never under pressure of power. I had seen power from close, even though I had not experienced it,” he said. Replying to a query about him driving to Mantralaya (state secretariat) and his official bungalow ‘Varsha’ from his personal residence in Bandra, he said his feet were firmly on the ground. “The clutch, break, accelerator and the steering wheel are firmly in my hands,” he said. On the criticism that he had remained indoors during the pandemic, he said, “I am working from my office. If I had not ventured out, the Shiv Sena wouldn’t have grown. Even during the lockdown, investments worth crores of rupees were brought to the state.” Speaking on “love jihad”, a term used by BJP leaders to describe religious conversions in the guise of marriage, Thackeray asked whether the BJP’s alliances with parties and leaders of different ideologies like PDP, Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar and Ram Vilas Paswan weren’t “political love jihad”. Thackeray said that being in the government he got less time to spend with Shiv sainiks in the last one year. “Then there is coronavirus, due to which political gatherings are not allowed,” he said.

Sena CM for 5 yrs: Raut amid Maharashtra govt formation talks with Cong, NCP - india news
Tumblr media
Senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said on Friday his party will get the chief minister’s post in Maharashtra for a full term of five years amid talks with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress to stake a claim to form the government in the state.“People of Maharashtra want Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to become the CM,” Sanjay Raut said while speaking to reporters. The three unlikely allies—the Shiv Sena, NCP and the Congress—will hold another round of talks on Friday to thrash out the details of their alliance and their effort to form a government in the politically-crucial western state after similar meetings on Thursday. The BJP and Sena, which fought the assembly elections in Maharashtra together, fell out over the chief minister’s position and equal distribution of portfolios, ending a three-decade-old alliance. The state plunged into political uncertainty soon after the October 24 assembly election results threw up a hung House, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at 105 seats, the Sena at 56, the NCP at 54 and the Congress at 44. Independents and smaller parties won 29 seats.Governor BS Koshyari invited the BJP, Sena and NCP, respectively, but no party could prove a majority within the prescribed deadline.Maharashtra was placed under President’s Rule on November 12 after the governor told the Centre that no party was in a position to form the government in the state.“The time for offers has ended,” Raut said when asked about reports that the BJP had agreed to share the CM’s post with the Sena. The senior Sena leader also said that his party won’t side with the BJP even if it is offered Lord Indra’s throne.Asked if the three non-BJP parties would meet the state governor on Friday, Sanjay Raut said, “Why meet the governor when the President’s rule is in place”.The three parties have finalised a draft common minimum programme (CMP) focusing on farmers, unemployment, education and health care. The three-page draft CMP, which HT has accessed, is likely to act as the backbone of negotiations between the three parties at a key meeting in Mumbai on Friday, senior leaders from all three parties indicated. The CMP is likely to be discussed at Friday’s meeting, which is also expected to take up possible distribution of ministerial portfolios and the chief minister’s position, the leaders added. via Today Bharat nbsp; Sena softens stand, talks of necessity of tie-up with BJP. Fadnavis also expressed the confidence that the mahayuti (grand alliance) would form the next government in the state. Mumbai: A day after he rubbished the Shiv Senarsquo;s claim that the Bharatiya Janata Party had agreed to share the Maharashtra chief ministerrsquo;s post, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis offered an olive branch to the sulking ally. Making a special mention of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in an address to his partyrsquo;s newly-elected MLAs after being unanimously re-elected as the leaderof the state BJP Legislative Party in a meeting in Mumbai mdash; which paves the way for his return as the Chief Minister, Fadnavis said, ldquo;I thank Shiv Sena chiefUddhav Thackeray for his support. Also my special thanks to PM Narendra Modi, who handed over the responsibility of the Maharashtra government to acommon party worker such as myself in 2014 and 2019.rdquo; nbsp; Fadnavis also expressed the confidence that the mahayuti (grand alliance) would form the next government in the state. ldquo; We sought votes for the mahayuti, andthe government will be formed by mahayuti alone, rdquo; he said. The Chief Minister also termed the rumours of an lsquo;alternate formularsquo; being worked out to form the state government lsquo;entertainment.rsquo; ldquo;Though there are several rumours floating around in the state about alternate formulae being worked out to form the government, it is more of an entertainment(sic),rdquo; he stated. Commenting on the performance of his party in the Vidhan Sabha polls, Fadnavis said that it was a big win, as no party had won more than 75 seats since 1995. ldquo; But in 2014 and 2019, the BJP won more than 100,rdquo; he added. The BJP bagged 122 of the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabharsquo;s 288 seats in 2014 and 105 in the recent election. Meanwhile, the Sena seems to have softened its stand over the stalemate with its leader Sanjay Raut saying that it was necessary for his party to stay in the BJP-led alliance in the larger interest of Maharashtra, but it would ldquo;not compromise its respectrdquo;. He added that there was no hurry to form the next government, but he rejected speculation that the Sena might split if there was a delay in the formation of thegovernment. Meanwhile, with the BJP refusing to accept Senarsquo;s demands on chief ministerrsquo;s chair, the Shiv Sena has summoned an emergency meeting of its newly-electedMLAs on Thursday. In addition to discussing the power-sharing deal with the BJP, the party is also likely to elect the legislature party leader on this occasion. The party has even cancelled the Konkan tour of Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray for the meeting, which will be held at the Sena Bhavan in Dadar. Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will address the newly-elected Sena MLAs in the meeting. Ever since the results for the Vidhan Sabha polls have been announced, there has been an intense tussle between the Sena and the BJP over the sharing of power in the next government. The Sena has been demanding the post of Chief Minister for two-and-a-half-years. According to sources, the BJP mdash; which has refused to give the post of the Chief Minister to Sena mdash; has offered the post of deputy chief minister and 13portfolios to its alliance partner. However, the party has made it clear that key portfolios, including home, finance, urban development and revenue will not be given to Sena under anycircumstances. In the Sena meeting, the party will not only discuss the BJPrsquo;s offer, but it will also finalise the name of its legislative party leader. Senior leader and cabinetminister Eknath Shinde is the incumbent legislative party leader of the Sena. ...

UP Bye-Election Results 2018: Naresh Agrawal’s induction in BJP responsible for reverses, says Sanjay Raut
shiv sena MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday claimed that the BJP had suffered reverses in bypolls in two parliamentary constituencies in Uttar Pradesh because of SP leader Naresh Agrawal’s induction into the saffron party. “I don’t consider that the SP-BSP tie up has worked… I believe that Lord Ram was angry with you (BJP) the day you (BJP) rolled out the red carpet for the SP leader, who has criticised Lord Ram,” he said.
In the prestigious Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat, the home turf of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP’s Upendra Dutt Shukla was trailing behind Praveen Nishad of the SP. In Phulpur, SP candidate Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel had raced ahead of his nearest BJP rival.
The election to the two constituencies were held on March 11. A day later, Agrawal quit the SP to join the BJP after he lost out to actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan in the race for re-nomination to the upper house.
The bypolls were necessitated after Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated the Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats respectively, following their election to the state legislative council.

Maharashtra Unfiltered: Raw Politics, Daily Delivered – 21 November 2024
The political scene in Maharashtra is very exciting right now because everyone is waiting for the results of the November 20, 2024, assembly elections. With an average turnout of about 65.11 percent, this election is a big deal in Maharashtra’s political history because it shows that people are more interested in politics than in the past [1, 2, 7].
Important political figures and groups
Mahayuti, which is made up of the ruling BJP, the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar), and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which is made up of Congress, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), and NCP (Sharad Pawar), fought hard in the elections. Key people like Uddhav Thackeray, who leads the MVA, and Devendra Fadnavis, who represents the BJP in Maharashtra, have a lot at stake. Both leaders have played a big role in shaping their parties’ strategies and attempts to reach out to voters [3, 4].
Predictions for the election and controversies
- Advertisement -
As exit polls came out after the election, they showed that the Mahayuti alliance might have won. Several polls showed that the Mahayuti could win between 125 and 140 seats, and that the MVA could come in close behind with between 135 and 150 seats. This close election makes it more likely that there will be a hung assembly, which could mean tough talks and power struggles between parties[2, 6].
An important member of the Shiv Sena (UBT), Sanjay Raut, was sure that the MVA would win between 160 and 165 seats and that their alliance would make the government stable. This bold statement has caused a lot of discussion in the political world, especially since different exit polls show that Mahayuti won [7].
Public Participation and Public Opinion
People are becoming more interested in politics, as shown by the high voter turnout—the best since the 1995 assembly elections. There are many reasons for this rise in participation, such as important issues like unemployment, inflation, and social justice groups that have touched voters of all ages and backgrounds [5, 6].
There are also signs that Maharashtra’s diverse population is shifting its allegiances, with many voters putting individual candidates ahead of traditional party memberships. Maharashtra’s political landscape may need to change because of this trend. Parties may need to change their methods to appeal to voters who are becoming more picky.
How this affects the future of politics in Maharashtra
The election results will be made public on November 23, 2024. They will not only decide who runs Maharashtra, but they will also affect future political ties and plans. If there is a hung assembly, it could lead to alliances or even re-alignments between parties that have never happened before. This would have a big effect on how the state is governed and policies are made.
How each party handles this election cycle will also set the tone for future elections, especially the important Lok Sabha elections in 2024. As both alliances try to gain more power and meet the urgent needs of their people, their work will be closely watched.
In short, Maharashtra’s assembly elections have shown how political goals, voter opinion, and strategic moves by important players all affect each other in complicated ways. While we wait for the final results, one thing is clear: the state’s politics are changing quickly. This is typical of Indian politics as a whole, where individual candidates and important social and economic problems are making traditional loyalties less important.

Uddhav’s late night meet with Pawar; more talks to follow on new Maharashtra govt - india news
Tumblr media
The Shiv Sena’s chief Uddhav Thackeray met the National Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar in Mumbai for more than an hour on Thursday, capping a day of hectic talks to firm up the contours of government formation in Maharashtra. After their late-night meeting at Pawar’s residence ‘Silver Oak’ in south Mumbai, the three parties—the Shiv Sena, NCP and the Congress—will hold more talks on Friday on their effort form a government in the politically-crucial western state. Uddhav Thackeray was accompanied by his son Aaditya, a first-time legislator from Worli, to the meeting with Sharad Pawar late on Thursday. The Thackerays called on Pawar, a Rajya Sabha MP, after he arrived in Mumbai from New Delhi in the evening. The Shiv Sena’s Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut was also present at the meeting. However, there was no leader from the Congress party at the meeting.“Since it was a meeting between top leaders, only they will know what transpired there. But the discussion is likely to have revolved around giving final touches to sharing of posts in the government being planned to be formed,” an unnamed NCP leader was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.Differences sortedThe parties have overcome a key hurdle in the formation of an unlikely alliance and inching closer to staking claim to power in Maharashtra and finalised a draft common minimum programme (CMP) focusing on farmers, unemployment, education and health care. The three-page draft CMP, which HT has accessed, is likely to act as the backbone of negotiations between the three parties at a key meeting in Mumbai on Friday, senior leaders from all three parties indicated. The document is likely to be discussed at the meet, which is also expected to take up possible distribution of ministerial portfolios and the chief minister’s position, the leaders added.“We have completed discussions. There is complete unanimity between the Congress and the NCP on all issues,” former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan told reporters in Delhi on Thursday after three round of consultations between the pre-poll partners since Wednesday. The Sena sounded equally confident.“We do not think there is any hurdle now … the pace at which we are progressing, there is no stopping us,” said senior Sena MP Sanjay Raut. The Congress and the NCP will also hold talks with their other pre-poll allies, the Peasants Workers Party, Samajwadi Party, Swabhimani Paksha and CPI(M) before meeting with the Sena leaders.Similarly, Uddhav Thackeray will address party MLAs and senior leaders on Friday to keep them in the loop and discuss the next course of the plan with them, a senior party functionary said on condition of anonymity. The party plans to fly out its lawmakers to Congress-ruled Rajasthan after their meeting. “The location is still being finalised. The MLAs will be sent to either Jaipur or Udaipur in Rajasthan till the process here is completed,” a senior Sena leader confirmed. via Today Bharat . During the first Sena-BJP government in the state, between 1995 to 1999, the term remote control was regularly used for and by the late party patriarch Bal Thackeray to explain the chain of command in the dispensation. Mumbai: The Shiv Sena, on Sunday, said it now had the "remote control of power" in Maharashtra despite getting fewer seats in the 2019 assembly polls when compared to 2014. During the first Sena-BJP government in the state, between 1995 to 1999, the term remote control was regularly used for and by the late party patriarch Bal Thackeray to explain the chain of command in the dispensation. nbsp; The two allies are in the midst of tough negotiations after the BJP returned a less-than-impressive performance in the assembly polls, results of which were declared on October 24, with 105 seats against 122 in 2014. Among Sena's demands is written assurance from the BJP on "equal sharing of power", which could possibly include equal division of the chief ministerial tenure. In his column 'Rokhthok' in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana', Sanjay Raut said, "The Sena won lesser seats this time, 56 compared to 63 in 2014, but it has the remote control of power". "The dream that the Shiv Sena will drag itself behind the BJP is busted (after poll results). A cartoon showing a tiger (Sena's identity) holding a lotus (BJP's symbol) in its hand tells a lot about the current scenario. Not taking anyone for granted is the message," he said in his column. Raut is the executive editor of Saamana and also the chief whip of the party in Parliament. The column hinted that the Sena would stay firm on its demands before government formation with the BJP. Hitting out at its ally further, he wrote, "The BJP's strategy of contesting 164 seats and winning 144 of them was rejected by voters. The election result is the defeat of unethical thoughts of increasing the tally by getting key Congress-NCP leaders to join the BJP, by luring them or threatening them." He said the defeat of NCP-turned-BJP leader Udayanraje Bhosale in the Satara by-poll was a message to those who were assuming they could "do whatever they wanted" to win polls. Bhosale had won the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Satara on an NCP ticket before quitting and joining the BJP, necessitating a by-poll in which he was trounced by NCP's Srinivas Patil. Those whose heads are in the clouds will end up like Udayanraje was the message of the 2019 assembly polls, he said in the column. Raut also claimed that people did not like comments like "ending the Pawar pattern", and the dislike was expressed through the ballot, especially in rural areas where the opposition did well. "The Shiv Sena stopped the BJP's plans of forming a government on its own in the state in 2014. In 2019, it was Sharad Pawar who did the same," Raut said.
