My entry for SangCheng Week 2022 - Day 5 - Hostility. I'm a day late. 😅
This is kind of a spin-off idea of the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries AU that lives in my head. I tried for the Phryne Fisher/Jack Robinson sexual tension, but I'm afraid I didn't quite get there.

I’m seeing this vast campaign against a single person who’s up for elections on AO3. Ok I get, people are worried.
What I find concerning however is that these posts contain screenshots of allegations other random people on the internet make - but not actual information or quotes from the person concerned.
This is Trump-like “lots of people say that” methods and you should be ashamed about sharing something like that.

When my lady walks into the room The lights come on to her sweet perfume I didn't know the devils by her side There I stood I had nothing to hide
My love could teach the blind to see My love's the wildest mystery My love said she'd be the one Now I know
Baby you're a liar You're a liar
I wasn't watching for the danger signs And I never read between the lines She says c'mon boy can you do your thing So I turned around still wondering
When my love dances she makes me cry My love dances with me tonight My love said she's be the one But now I know
Baby you're a liar Oh you're a liar A liar But I'm still burning with desire
With the look of a panther I got lost in the jungle No I can't help myself again I can't help myself Baby you're a liar
My love could teach the blind to see My love's the wildest mystery My love said she'd be the one Now I know
Baby you're a liar Oh yeah you're a liar A liar I'm burning with desire
Oh baby you're a liar Oh baby you're a liar (you're a liar) Oh baby you're a liar (you've bin known to veer from the truth) Lies You're a liar You're telling me lies Baby you're a liar Lies I'm burning with desire Lies Baby you're a liar

Meine #1 des Jahres 2022
During the Sunshot Campaign one night Jiang Cheng breaks down in the security of the camps in Qinghe. Not in front of his sister - in front of Nie Huaisang. It was just supposed to be a harmless get-together, just some drinks.
But the last battle didn't go well. Jiang Cheng survived, too many others died. And it's just too much. He cries. He failed them. He failed a lot of people. He doesn't know what he's doing. People die because he couldn't protect them. He wants his mother back. He wants his father back. He wants Wei Wuxian back. He's alone. He can't do this anymore. He's a failure. He cries, ugly cries. A lot. And Nie Huaisang does't really know how to deal with it, so he's just kinda awkwardly there.
They never talk about it, never mention it again. But their relationship slightly changed.

Whoops! Here's my submission for Sangcheng Week 2022 day 1, covering in-laws, support systems, and domesticity.
Below the cut!
Huaisang settled on the armrest of the easy chair where Jiang Cheng was reading. “Do you have a moment for a teeny-tiny, very brief and casual conversation about life goals, possibly?”
Jiang Cheng put in a bookmark and snapped the book shut, frowning. “It actually makes me more nervous when you try to soften things like that, you know.”
Huaisang winced a little in apology. “I’ve just been wondering for a while now if you consider yourself the type of person who wants to get married someday.”
“Oh. Um, I mean, I–” Jiang Cheng stopped, blinked. “Oh, fuck.”
“What?”
Jiang Cheng swallowed. “I guess I just–never thought I’d get this far.”
Huaisang giggled, but it came out a little nervous. “Well, what does that mean?”
Jiang Cheng chewed on his lip, clearly thinking something over, then said finally, “When I was a kid–well, starting when I was a kid–I just kind of assumed I’d never get married because I didn’t think–that anyone would ever…fall in love with me, I guess.”
“Baby!” Huaisang said, horrified. They took the opportunity to slip into Jiang Cheng’s lap, holding his face in their hands. Jiang Cheng wrapped his arms around them almost without thinking. “You–oh, A-Cheng, that’s–”
Jiang Cheng was avoiding their gaze. “Don’t, please? With the pity thing.”
“Okay, yeah.” Huaisang took a steadying breath, then smiled. “Well, I’m here now, and I am very in love with you.”
Now Jiang Cheng looked at them. “Yeah. You are,” he said, almost as if he was realizing it for the first time. “And I love you too, you know.”
Huaisang kissed him. “Yes. Now please, I asked you a question.”
“Oh, shit, yeah.” Jiang Cheng thought for a while this time. “Yeah. I mean–yeah. I think it would be nice, to be married to someone.”
Huaisang beamed at him, and Jiang Cheng visibly softened. “Great! Now I just have a couple more questions, and like, this is very–I’m not proposing or anything right now, I don’t want you to get freaked out, I just–I think it’s important if couples are planning on staying together for a long time to be on the same page about this so that no one is compromising on something big without realizing it, or so that both parties aren’t thinking they’re compromising by giving up on something that they actually secretly both want, or–and I also just wanted to know what–shit. First of all, do you mean you can see yourself marrying me, specifically?”
Jiang Cheng pulled them in a little closer. “Of course, baby. No one else.”
“Okay. Because. I just wanted to know what marriage looks like to you, because sometimes people have ideas that marriage is going to be really different from being in a dating relationship and I kind of want to get those expectations ironed out before we even think about THINKING about getting engaged.”
“Sensible,” Jiang Cheng said, and Huaisang knew it was one of the highest compliments Jiang Cheng could give. “Yeah, I guess neither of us really know what a functional marriage looks like firsthand, huh.”
Huaisang sighed. “I suppose not.”
“...I mean, for me, I’m not gonna like, stop taking you on dates or dressing up or anything like that, if that’s what you mean. I know you like it when I show you off and I know you like–showing me off too, and that you wouldn’t be happy if that stopped. I don’t know what else you might mean.”
“Oh, just like–do we buy a house or keep renting, do we combine our finances, are we having kids, are we having pets–”
“No,” Jiang Cheng said, a note of panic entering his voice.
“No to what?”
“I really don’t–I’d fuck up a kid so bad. We can’t have kids. I’m sorry, but–”
Huaisang put their arms around his neck. “I disagree with your reasoning, but agree with your overall stance. I don’t want kids, either. God no.”
Jiang Cheng breathed a sigh of relief. “Um, and as to the other things, I don’t really–I haven’t really thought about them? Ever? So maybe we could reconvene in a couple of weeks or a month or something?”
“Sure, baby. I want to buy a house, though, if we get married, I’m just letting you know.”
Jiang Cheng smiled at them. “I can work with that.”
“Oh!” Huaisang clapped their hands. “One more thing. This is…maybe a weird one.”
“I’m listening.”
“Don’t buy me an engagement ring.”
Jiang Cheng squinted. “O…kay?”
“I mean–I want you to propose with a ring that belonged to my mother. I don’t have it, da ge has the key to the safe deposit box, you’re going to have to go through him if and when you want to propose.” Huaisang nudged him.
“I need your brother’s permission to marry you?”
“No, no, not permission, I just–he has very strict instructions to hand over the ring unless he genuinely thinks you’re a serial killer or something. It’s just a little–because I had a thing for bad boys for a long time and after a bad breakup I was just as worried as da ge was that I was gonna fall head over heels for someone actually dangerous and not be able to see the warning signs. I trust da ge, so.”
“Jesus. You know I’m not at all a bad boy, right? Like, don’t let the swearing and the–I don’t know, the leather jackets fool you, I’m, like–I was editor of the school paper in high school. I was salutatorian.”
Huaisang giggled at him. “I know, baby. You’re a huge nerd and I love that about you. You’re dependable, and smart, and conscientious, and–”
“Stop,” Jiang Cheng complained, and Huaisang laughed out loud.

Sangcheng week ‘22 contributions!
So I’d pretty much forgotten I had a tumblr and that I could also post here, so here are my sangcheng week 22 contributions over @ ao3 :)
1. slow sundays (rated G)
For SangCheng Week 22 day 1 prompt: Family
Usually they reserve their Sunday mornings to themselves; they wake up together (or rather, Jiang Cheng wakes first and, in a surprisingly gentle manner, coaches Nie Huaisang awake), snuggle together for an indeterminate amount of time (because of course Jiang Cheng tries to make them get up but Nie Huaisang tries harder to make them lie in, eager to get some extra cozy time), make pancakes together (okay, maybe Jiang Cheng makes the pancakes while Nie Huaisang prepares the coffee – still a very important part of breakfast, thank you very much), and finally go on to take a shower before putting on comfortable loungewear and spending their Sunday as Sundays are supposed to be spent - slowly and comfortably.
Today, though, Jiang Cheng is understandably more unwilling to live so slowly, if his early departure from bed without even attempting to wake Nie Huaisang is any sign.
You see, today they have plans.
2. sit down, i’m gonna tell you the future (rated T)
“You want to do what?” Jiang Cheng asked him, crossing his arms and looking suspiciously at him. “Do you really believe that?”
“What’s the harm in trying it?” Nie Huaisang asked cheerfully, snapping his fan shut – one of the many fans he owned and always carried around with him – and pointing it at his chest. “You, me, tonight after dinner, my dorm room.“
Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes but agreed anyway. “Fine. I’ll be your little guinea pig and we’ll see if any of it makes any sense.”
-
Or, Nie Huaisang gives Jiang Cheng a Tarot reading.
and finally
3. thunder clatter (rated T)
One time Jiang Cheng was sick, one time Nie Huaisang was sick, and one time they were both sick.
Oh and of course, happy birthday to Jiang Cheng, the best boy! 🎉

meet-cute prompt roundup!
Yay, this round of prompts is over! Thanks for everyone who sent in a prompt, hope you guys enjoyed them. I set myself a challenge to write at least one a day and I think I managed that? I certainly set myself a record this last week-and-a-half by average at least 2 ficlets a day (sometimes even 3!), so that was immensely satisfying.
I also tried out two new pairings, which I hope were a success. I might revisit them at some point to try and work out the dynamics, but it was certainly fun to write something other than WangXian (but I still love them the most <3).
Anyway, without further ado, here are the fics from this round:
WangXian
#5 They caught you when you slipped on ice and nearly fell over - HERE
#8 Humming a song and having them begin to hum with you without thinking - HERE
#20 You walk out of a dressing room asking if the outfit suits you, but it’s not your friend waiting outside the room like you thought - HERE

Sangcheng week day 2, prompt: Chengyu!
It had gone like this: Nie Huaisang, the foreign exchange student living with Lan Wangji’s family who Jiang Cheng had a big huge stupid fucking crush on, showed up at Jiang Cheng’s locker after school complaining bitterly and somehow all in one breath that he was going to have to stay late after school for no reason because it was raining like crazy outside and Lan Wangji was staying late today for whatever Wangji reasons and they only had the one car between them and Huaisang didn’t want his sketchbook to get wet. Jiang Cheng, who tried to limit one-on-one time with Huaisang because he tended to trip over his words and also his own feet when that happened, for some reason decided that he absolutely had to play the fucking hero and offer to walk Huaisang home: “Um. Because I have an umbrella in my locker. Not like, just so we can both get wet. Haha” and Huaisang had lit up and agreed.
So now Jiang Cheng, who had lied and said “We live near the Lans anyway” even though the Jiang house was in fact the opposite direction from the school, was going stupid out of his way in the pouring rain in shoes that were low-key not really waterproof, just to awkwardly hold an umbrella for a cute boy for maybe half an hour.
Huaisang was doing most of the talking, thanking him profusely at least every two minutes, telling Jiang Cheng stories that were mostly about his day or about his big brother, while Jiang Cheng listened and laughed or nodded when appropriate and occasionally managed to unstick his tongue from the roof of his mouth long enough to answer a question Huaisang asked him.
About ten minutes in, Huaisang said, “You know, I’m really happy you offered to walk me home–not just because I didn’t have to be at school for a second longer than I needed to, but, like, because I really like spending time with you. I feel like we never get to hang out just the two of us.”
Jiang Cheng felt a little pang of guilt since he was the one who was carefully trying to avoid situations that were just the two of them, but just said “I like spending time with you, too.”
They reached a crosswalk just then and had to stop and wait for the light to change. Huaisang smiled at him as they stopped, and Jiang Cheng smiled back.
“I thought of another chengyu I thought you might like,” Huaisang said, still smiling, and suddenly speaking very quickly. “I think you might like this one, it’s <<当机立断>>.”
“Dang ji li duan?” Jiang Cheng repeated, and Huaisang nodded once at his pronunciation, moving to stand in front of him for reasons Jiang Cheng couldn’t imagine. “What does it mean?”
Huaisang rocked himself onto his tiptoes and pressed his lips hard against Jiang Cheng’s. Jiang Cheng took in a sharp breath through his nose and immediately, instinctively pressed the hand not holding the umbrella to Huaisang’s back, maybe to keep him there forever.
Huaisang was blushing hard when he pulled away. “It means–it means like, to make a split-second decision.”
“You know, I think I do like that one,” Jiang Cheng said. He glanced up and noticed the light had changed and regretfully dropped his hand from Huaisang’s back, nudging him towards the curb.
Jiang Cheng waited until they had crossed the street and then said, “But there’s another chengyu you taught me that I think describes you better?”
“Oh yeah?” Huaisang said, hooking his arm around Jiang Cheng’s. “Which one?”
Jiang Cheng looked straight ahead. “Xiao li cang dao,” he said: to hide a knife behind a smile.
“What?” Huaisang yelped, laughing. “Why?”
“Because!” Jiang Cheng said, trying and failing to suppress a smile. “You–you acted all friendly with me and dragged me all the way out here just to–seduce me! You wicked little man!”
Huaisang gasped dramatically, hip-checking him–not hard, because Jiang Cheng was still the one holding the umbrella. “Jiang Cheng! That is not what happened!”
Jiang Cheng snickered at him. “Isn’t it?”
“God! You are such a dick! I can’t believe I have a crush on you!”
Jiang Cheng smiled wider at that, and Huaisang squinted at him, still fake-outraged. They walked in silence for about thirty seconds, and then Huaisang said, “I’m so mad, I want to hold your hand so bad but you’re holding an umbrella.”
“Oh! Here.” Jiang Cheng switched so that his other arm was holding his umbrella kind of awkwardly across his body so it was still covering both of them, and offered his newly freed hand to Huaisang.
“Aw, so sweet! Such a gentleman.” Huaisang took the proffered hand in both of his, and after a moment’s thought, lifted it to his mouth to press his lips against Jiang Cheng’s knuckles.
Jiang Cheng turned quite red, and Huaisang laughed outright. “Ah, you blush so easily, A-Cheng, it’s almost too much fun.”
“Look, if you’re just gonna bully me–”
“Nooo! I would never bully you! My knight in shining armor, saving me from the evil raindrops.” Huaisang draped himself across Jiang Cheng, arms around his neck, somehow managing to make the gesture apologetic.
“All right, all right,” Jiang Cheng said, smiling, “quit messing around, you’re gonna trip and pull us both into a puddle and then you’ll defeat the whole purpose of me walking you home.”
“Hmm,” Huaisang said. “I thought the whole point was for you to get me alone so you could besmirch my honor.”
“You kissed me!”
“Prove it! My word against yours!”
They bickered the rest of the way to the Lans’ house, where Huaisang kissed him again just before he went inside.
Jiang Cheng’s walk from the Lans’ house to his house took about an hour, but for Jiang Cheng it passed in a blink. He only realized when he stepped in his front door and Wei Ying said, in lieu of a greeting, “What the hell do you look so smug about?” that Jiang Cheng realized he hadn’t stopped smiling the whole walk home.

lucky mdzs | sangcheng, side wangxian | 5.7k | fluff | complete set after “never been a natural (all i do is try)”
Jiang Cheng likes to think he’s mature enough to admit that he should shoulder some of the blame, but right now he’s too stressed, so he’ll just go and say it’s Wei Wuxian’s fault anyway.
After all, it's Wei Wuxian who, two weeks before the end of their summer break, just decided to go on that field trip with Lan Wangji, which ended up with Jiang Cheng being absolutely done with his brother, which ended up with Wei Wuxian talking nonsense, which then ended up with Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang in a relationship.
Or: Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang Try To Make Wangxian Happen, It Doesn't Happen
