when I say I've been meaning to draw this for years, I truly mean about seven years, lol. I adore Jules & Sand and I literally always will!! every once in a while I have another Round the Horne phase and relisten to all the episodes with delight

dunno if i ever posted these here but i made these book covers last year during wintersession based on a story ive been developing on and off for years. the basic situation was that every next entry in the series had to share one color with the previous cover, and all the fonts and general placement of the type had to be similar. also each book cover had to start with the name of one of the characters.

this was before i'd taken any type classes so it's kind of rough but! i like it.

The prince of the sands of time, Sandy 💜⭐️

Some extra info dumps under the cut:

He has small horns under his turban, which make the little shapes on top of his head

He's got tiny little toebeans like a cat because of the jokes with him looking like a tired cat 😭😭

His colours are inspired by capybaras (the deadpan expressions absolutely feel Sandy-like and I felt that too much purple wouldn't look as good. I tested this a lot, trust me 😭)

He does have purple running down certain parts of his body like his back and parts of his upper arms. These purple bits are almost like fragments of the cosmos blessed upon his skin, which often show soft little white stars that shift with the ones on the horizon.

When he fully is awake, I have a colour scheme for a sort of "god/arcane mode," where he becomes similar to the colours of Tara's black portal shadow. He essentially becomes a pure deity of the cosmos.

His eyes are like staring into the depths of space. I couldn't show it well here, but when I draw him digitally, I'll do it justice :)

His cape can actually shift sizez depending on what he wants! Usually, he keeps it large like a big blanket over him, but he can have it like a tiny version (like in game) so it doesn't get stuck on anything when bawling.

His claws are a dark blue similar to his eyes.

He can also fly! Similarly to Tara, these types of dragons (lung dragons) are often highly skilled and gifted in magic, which allows him to levitate and hover in place.

Due to the last point, he's flown off when taking a nap multiple times. Gene usually has to pull him back down before he goes too high.

actually i'm so obsessed with the Julian&Sandy + Kenneth Horne and Stefon + Seth Meyers parallels. the "Straight Man" who can't help but crack a smile interrogating his (heavily coded as) gay friend(s) that calling "whacky" would be putting it very lightly. comedy hasn't changed in 50 years.

And hey. it's still very funny and endearing to me! The tried and true formula is great!

Tom Allen: he’ll probably beat the record for the biggest amount of meltdowns and I’m here for it
