i recently went to a zoo (prague) that happened to have a giant chinese salamander. i was in utter disbelief about the size of the thing; i didn’t know amphibians wee capable of getting that big.

no pictures allowed, even without the flash, because the salamander is too sensitive even to the infrared or whatever it is pulse from a camera just before the shutter goes.

do you have any pictures of this unbelievable critter?

Chinese Giant Salamander

The giant salamanders are one of my favorite groups of animals. I've only seen the Japanese in person, and it's also quite impressive.

CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.

The 2nd largest amphibian in the world, behind the South China Giant Salamander, A. sligoi.

This salamander grows to a length of up to 5.9 ft long.

We had the BEST day at the @sdzsafaripark! Cecily was dying to see the cheetah, and luckily she was out and about when we got there. Lorelai waved to every single animal she saw. Colin got to eat his favorite treat, a chocolate covered frozen banana. And I obviously bought everyone “Save the Chubby Unicorns” shirts, which we will wear when we go to the @sandiegozoo next week 🐆🐘🦒 #sandiegosafaripark
