Pulling The Trigger
I remember the day we shot this video. The wind was a banshee just like it is today. But we were running up, way UP above Lake Ray Roberts on the Trinity River. Jeff had all the knowledge and experience to do this run that sometimes reminded me of the Bogart classic movie “The African Queen.” Today is the actual date this video was recorded, long before the South Padre Island adventures, an…

2024 Megaman Summer Fanart Contest - Category 2 Results!
Once again, to see the Cat. 1 Talent entries if you've missed them, head to this post.
Are ye scurvy scallywags ready to find out if (Megaman) X marks the spot and which swashbucklers will plunder all of the booty in this category?
Set sail beyond the crashing waves below to find out after the break....
CATEGORY 2 (Humor): Pirates of the Alohahabean
For this category, entrants were tasked with drawing a comical scene where the Mega Man character(s) of their choice, who are pirates or were dressed/acted as pirates, were hunting for treasure. And in turn, ruined a nice day on the beach/in the water for other characters.
For the full gallery of pics, click here. Links to each individual full size image is after each entrant's name as well. All winners will be contacted soon.
1.) @megagundamman [Pic] *$175 USD Prize Winner!
Literally every member of the Mega pirates multiverse is here to battle the sand Octoper OA in this ambitious piece. Time to send him back to Davy Joe's locker! Through the chaos that lifeguard Akane can't control, laughed at the other pirate thieves like Marino and Teisel trying to get away with some beach treasures, the flailing Summer Penguin and Servbot, and poor Ashe as the mermaid figurehead on the Met ship's front.
2.) @pstart [Pic] *$100 USD Prize Winner!
Volnutt may have been originally pranked by Roll pretending to be a sharky Firushudot, but that ominous pirate vessel, the Balcon Gelede, has him spooked even more! Big froggies are scary. Tron and her Servbot look adorable in their actual pirate getups!
3.) Kamicciolo [Pic] $75 USD Prize Winner!
Wily losing his temper with Bass (while Bass gives no F...ortes) will never not illicit a chuckle. But even more amusing is buff Dr. Light wearing a Donald Duck sailor hat. I am mentally hearing his MM8 Elmer Fudd voice replaced by Kingdom Hearts Donald! "When we fin' dat Wiwy, I'll summon dat meteaaw, Sowa!" ______________________________________
And the rest of our humorous entries, in alphabetical order by alias:
AbilityField [Pic]
Meggers claws give him the ability to dig up the sand so fast that Geo's friends have become sand sculptures themselves! Their expressions, while keeping some recognizable features of their design, are amusing!
ArtisIan [Pic]
Dr. Light is not amused that his family grilling time has been interrupted! Pirate Man better watch out for the hot tongs. Had a good laugh at Fliptop getting his top a little flipped and all those beach items/condiments flying out. Along with poor Beat buried upside-down.
@DWN-059 [Pic]
A continuation of sorts from Beebs' contest entry two years ago. Dive Man's urgent rush to take care of the troublesome pirates is making waves! Which is not good news for Sword Man's torso. Love the feel of movement, not just from Dive in the background, but the Kaizock pulling up the beach towel in the foreground as well!
@duskblogsthings [Pic]
The treasure will all be pirate Roll's, because there's not much Rock can do, being all buried himself there. Cute and playful beach scene!
VCampan [Pic]
Tron finally won, and got Volnutt and Roll to join her pirate crew! I guess mechanics need lots of zenny for stuff too. Like adapting a Megabuster to shoot out cannonballs, most likely. Despite being a veteran air pirate, guess Bola can't handle the motion of the ocean, though...
Thank you once more to everyone for your hard work and participation this year! All the art was fantastic!

sidon and his partner go to the beach!
(I've been meaning to write something like this for a while! It looks like Sidon finally gets his beach episode!! I haven't been to Lurelin Village to see what it looks like in ToTK, but I'll pretend things are fine there lol.)
Sidon with S/O - Beach Day Headcanons
After the stress with Sidon ascending to the throne of Zora's Domain, and the upheaval of Hyrule; you both needed to relax. You both planned a day trip to Lurelin Village. What better place to ease up than a beach itself?
When you arrive, it's already blazing outside. You're convinced that you took a vacation to the Gerudo Desert instead. You both opt to find shade before going into the water. You were burning up, however considering Sidon was a Zora; you were more concerned for his well-being.
Sidon insists he's fine, however you insist even more that's not the case. Luckily you were prepared, you had brought him moisturizer to make sure his scales wouldn't dry out.
You helped Sidon get the moisturizer upon places he couldn't easily reach. You enjoy placing the moisturizer on the top of his head the most. He allows you to take off his head pieces which is a rare sight, one that you appreciate. It feels like a small moment of vulnerability between you two.
In return, Sidon will help you as well. He'll apply sunscreen on your back. It doesn't take much for him to place it on your back, due to how big his hands were. He's always careful to make sure his claws don't accidentally scrape you.
Since you both had chosen to seek shade under a palm tree, you decided to get some palm fruit. Sidon offered to shake the tree to get the fruit down, however you were determined to fetch the fruits yourself.
You climbed the palm tree with all the stamina you could muster. You managed to grab a palm fruit, before slipping upon the side of the bark. You were quick to grab onto one of the leaves. However, you ended up taking them down with you. Luckily your shark in shining armour was just below you! He was quick to catch you. However, poor Sidon got smacked in the head by one of the palm fruits falling down.
He'll be alright though, he got plenty of forehead kisses from you to help him feel better!
The poor palm fruits didn't survive the fall. You both decided to get into the water at that point.
The currents of the ocean very easily swept you off your feet when you had gotten into the water. It was hard for you to keep your balance, so Sidon was sure to stay close to you the entire time.
He had held your hand anytime a moderate wave came to make sure you didn't lose your balance. His grip was rather firm, the only one who could sweep you off his feet is him, of course!
If you're feeling brave enough to take on the waves, you'll get on Sidon's back to try to surf the waves. Sidon gets beyond excited at the idea of trying to tame the waves. You sometimes swear that NOTHING scares this fishy man.
There will be a point where Sidon might go deep underwater just to find the most eye catching shell for you. He wants to make sure that you have something to remember this day by!
While Sidon is busy finding you a shell, you'll likely be making dinner in return! You made the two of you roasted bass by a small campfire nearby!
Sidon had offered to fan you off at one point. He grabbed one of the leaves from the palm tree you fell out of earlier. While you had agreed, the leaf he grabbed just happened to be a korok leaf. You were clueless about this unfortunately... The leaf had almost sent you flying into the sand by the strong gust of wind. In a way, this could be considered Sidon's revenge on you from the falling palm fruits! Sidon was very mortified by how much power such a leaf had.
At the end of the day, you both had simply sat out by the sand, cuddling and watching the sun set over the now calming ocean waters. As cliché as it was, you were purely mesmerized by its beauty. However, Sidon was more mesmerized by how you looked in the rays of the sunset.
He'll be sure to tell you just how (pretty/ handsome/ gorgeous) you are and how lucky he is to have you. The moment you both shared here in Lurelin Village will surely stay with you both for a long time ahead.

Piper has liked you since she saw you. You were spilling a drink in a red cup, dancing with only your hips and toes and laughing real loud at something your friend said. You nodded to the music, taking soft sips of your drink and looking absolutely ethereal in the vibrant light of the party.
Annabeth stood next to her with a teasing smirk on her face and leaned in to yell, “That’s Y/n! Daughter of P/n, she’s super sweet. You should go for it!”
Piper blushed and hid her embarrassment in her drink, “I don’t know, is she new?”
“Yeah! Got to camp a couple weeks ago..” As Annabeth is filling Piper in on you, you of course take that moment to make eye contact with her across the room. You flash her a big smile and a small wave, air-cheersing her and loosing a little more of your soda.
Piper mimics you, careful to keep her drink in her cup as she gives you a less-toothy grin.
You turn back to your friends and Piper’s small amount of confidence depletes, already scared she’s lost her chance until you’re spinning back her way and walking at her.
Annabeth excuses herself with a comment about Aphrodite’s interference and Piper nods goodbye absentmindedly. Your hair practically glows in the blue light, your part is messy with strands flying every which way as you bounce over to her. Your shirt is a little askew, revealing a peek of your shoulder and sliding down more as you throw your hand out.
“Hi!” You shake her hand so enthusiastically she doubts you notice the nervous tremors. “I’m Y/n, you’re Piper, right?”
“Yeah!” She has to holler to be heard over the country song you slightly shimmy to, “Daughter of Aphrodite.”
“Oh wow, you must be really good at flirting then! Could I get a test drive?” Your grin is contagious but your laugh is even better, the whole room is put to shame with the lively giggles you offer.
“I’m afraid I didn’t inherit her smooth-talking.” You tilt your head, leaning in closer to hear her better. Piper’s heart is beating so hard, she swears it’s louder than the bass.
“No charmspeak?”
“No, I got that but I would never use it on you.”
“Yeah? You wanna make sure my interest is genuine, huh?”
You stole the words right out of her brain so she just nods with a loose jaw.
“Well, how about you take me somewhere quieter so you can really figure it out?”
You slip your hand into hers, the lines of your palm slotting against hers just right. She begins to pull you through the crowd, stopping a couple times to greet someone or to wait for an opening. When she finally gets you out of the cabin, she leads you away from the noise and towards the lake.
You plop down in the sand, subsequently pulling her down with you from where you’re connected. She’s a little sweaty but your hand has a firm grip so she couldn’t get away even if she wanted to, and she really doesn’t.
“So, tell me, Piper,” Then you look at her with your shinning eyes and curious smile and she almost chokes, “Who are you?”
She clears her throat and tries to remember anything about herself, all information flying out the window when she makes eye contact with you again.
“I mean, besides my future girlfriend.” Scratch that, she does choke.

Amaro Freitas — Y’Y (Psychic Hotline)
Jazz pianist Amaro Freitas laces his fusion-y jazz with sounds of the rain forest in this expansive outing, infusing fluid reveries of keyboard with tropical rhythm and heat and intimating the sounds of water, birds and insect life. A native of Brazil’s northeastern Pernambuco state, he is as steeped in the music of rain forest peoples like the Sateré Mawé indigenous community as in the jazz canon, and he has strong connections to a global jazz scene, as demonstrated by cameos from Brandee Younger, Jeff Parker and Shabaka Hutchins. The music slips, sometimes, into soft-focus, new age-y mysticism, but at its best conveys clear-eyed wonder at the heritage human beings are in the process of destroying.
Y’Y proceeds smoothly from one cut to another, so that you are not always sure without looking about exactly where you are in its sequence. Indeed, you could think of it as one long track, flowing majestically downstream like the river that inspired it. Nonetheless, there are scenes with in it, the trebly, altered piano notes that weave through knocks and booms and twitterings in the opening “Mainguari (Encantado da Mata”) one of two cuts dedicated to Amazonian spirits. “Uiara,” the second, sets brief agitated flights of piano against the sound of wood groaning; it sounds like bird song in the midst of rain. The piano becomes more insistent as the cut goes on, hammering and pounding and making staccato chords. It pulses with life, evolving, intertwining, competing life, as abundant as the life in the jungle.
The title track is particularly good at balancing traditional, tribal sounds with the fluencies of jazz. It starts in a stretched out chant, the thump of hand-drums, a metallic clash of tonal percussion. The reedist Shabaka Hutchings plays an airy flute over this, a hoarse whisper of melody over spare percussion. The piano enters, first as a single note played again and again, and then more lavishly, with chords. The piece has an open-ended inquiry to it as the musicians explore connections between jazz and ritual music.
Tortoise guitarist Jeff Parker guests on “Mar de Cirandeiras,” dropping smooth elegiac runs into a groove set by Freitas’ playing. It’s maybe the track that sounds the closest to American jazz, but even here, a tropical heat envelops the sound. And finally, the Chicago harpist Brandee Younger takes a hand in “Glorioso,” in graceful runs and flourishes. You could hardly imagine two instruments less suited to the Amazon than piano and harp, but they flourish here, unencumbered by humidity.
Y’Y has its lovely moments, but it wallows sometimes in woo-woo-y mysticism. It’s a bit soft and cushiony, hard edges sanded down to harmless auras. That’s why “Encantados,” late in the album, is such a kick, rushing ahead on running bass and drums, piano and flute bits flying off as it takes the corners on two wheels. The Amazon may be full of gorgeous tranquility, but how nice, just this once, to hear it lift up its head and roar.

I’m looking to get into fly fishing the bays and surf here in San Diego. My main interests are Corbina in the surf and corvina in the bays. I’ve caught tons of corvina on top water baits and plenty of Corbina on split shot sand crabs. I have no idea where to start when it comes to fly fishing. I wouldn’t mind fly fishing for spotted bay bass also. I was field staff for z man and kayaked the bays for a few years. Caught many large spotties. Just looking for something different to challenge me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
If you have a tube or yak . One of the popular areas to bay fish the fly is Glorieta bay.
Corvina on the fly is a lot trickier since they move around a lot. In the winter fish the back bays where the water temps are warmer.
Beans are everywhere right now Torrey Pines all the way up to Carlsbad have fish.
If you have sight fished them with live bait it’s basically the same game except you’re trying to get a reaction bite. The fly has to presented to the fish close enough so they can see it and in a non threatening manner. The beans give free tutorials on what not to do. 😉🙂 Cast at a lot of fish and observe their reactions.
You already have a head start over most folks since you fished them on bait successfully.
Question for you?
How did you find this site?
I don’t advertise so it’s all by word of mouth.
Anywho…
Good luck out there.

#16, with pouty Reggie and Julie, please and thank you.
(took a bit of inspiration from this small ficlet by @wr0temyway0ut)
.
Reggie inhales a deep breath, the salt heavy in the air, as he holds his arms out wide, closing his eyes to embrace a rare moment of relative quiet on the beach.
A cool breeze carries off the crashing waves and surrounds him. Winding through his hair, across his cheek, over his outstretched arms, his flannel billowing around him. Imaginary wings he’ll never have no matter how much he wished for them as a kid.
Whenever the world got to be too much or too loud he would always go somewhere where he could pretend to fly away, to escape, to be anywhere but amidst the disorder. Over the years as he got into music he found himself escaping there. Soaring in ways he never thought was possible, on the adrenaline and highs of perfecting a song, of sharing a piece of you with the world. Finding an exhilarating comfort hidden amongst boisterous chaos.
Still, there were times when he needed the quiet. The peace of an imagined flight. To not necessarily run away but to seek out inner clarity.
He’s not sure how long he stays there. It doesn’t feel like very long at all but eventually there’s a warm pull deep within his chest. A gentle tug he can’t help but smile at.
Julie’s wondering where he wandered off to.
She isn’t trying to force him to move. No, she hasn’t knowingly done that since those first few times when they were still trying to figure out this connection they share.
He tries to send gentle reassurances back her way. Although he’s not sure how much the reassurance might come across as lies seeing as his head feels no clearer than when he first got here. This might not have been the best way to deal with this sour melancholy he’s been drowning in all day.
Nothing seemed to be helping with it. Not his bass, not music, not silence, not his imaginary flight. Would anything help? Knowing what caused it in the first place certainly might help. And maybe…
He files the rest of that thought away close to his heart where he keeps all his secret wants and wishes.
With a deep sigh, Reggie shoves his hands into his jeans pockets, eyes scanning over the dark waters as he fails to entirely shove his thoughts away. He feels another firm tug in his chest, but something is different about this one. Like he’s the one anchoring the tight rubber band rather than being yanked by it.
There is a small flash of light and a high pitched squeal and for a split second he’s sure that Julie forced him to poof. Except, he’s still standing on the beach, salty evening wind whipping around him.
Instead, groaning in the sand at his feet, her hair in its usual nighttime half braid, is…
“Julie?” He squeaks out, his shock freezes him in place-wide eyed and gaping-for only a second longer. Then he’s quick to help Julie stand.
She sways unsteadily on her feet, shuddering, so he decides to sit them both down instead. At least until she looks less dizzy. He glances her over, thankful that she’s at least in her yellow sweater and jeans, though she does seem to be barefoot for some reason. A quick look around confirms her monster slippers did not make it to the beach.
“Wha-What happened?” she moans, her hands grip his arm tight.
“You just poofed,” he says, much louder and more manically than he intended.
“What?” her head snaps up to look at him. She attempts to shake her head before lurching to the side mumbling something about feeling nauseous. He maintains a firm grip around her shoulders the entire time.
Once that passes, she hesitantly sits up. Still slightly leaning into him, using him as support, “I can’t poof.”
He chews on his lip as he slides one of his hands down to her wrist, “yeah, well you aren’t supposed to be able to walk through tables either.” The memory of the other day floods his mind. Another incident in a long line of questions all summarized succinctly by Alex’s ‘what kind of ghosts are we?’ from their first night back in the world.
Only now it’s not just them. It’s her. Well, technically, she was always involved but there was never this much cause for alarm before.
His fingers stumble on her wrist trying to remember how to feel for a pulse. It’d be easier to check her neck.
She scoffs when she realizes what it is he’s doing, “I’m not dead.”
He scowls at her, and she rolls her eyes with a small exasperated smile. She adjusts how she is sitting, scooting closer between his legs but not quite directly in his lap. Gingerly she takes his hand in hers and guides it up to her neck, “see?”
He adjusts his fingers, uses the slightest bit of pressure and finds the strong steady beat. Proof she is in fact still alive and yet it doesn’t ease any of his concerns. If anything it worries him more.
He’s definitely pouting now. Wanting answers and not understanding how she can be so dismissive over all of this. Feeling very much like a hypocritical ass.
“Hey, I’m ok. I promise.” She leans in as she speaks, wrapping her arms around his neck and pressing a fleeting kiss to his cheek, right near the corner of his mouth.
He gapes at her, slowly blinking. He’s not sure if she’s ever kissed him like that before. She’s generally affectionate with her friends. However, the most intimate thing she usually does with friends is forehead presses. Right?
With a sigh, he shakes his head in an attempt to clear his head before he can overthink matters. That’s a train of thought that belongs locked away with others like it.
“What about you?” her voice cuts through his thoughts.
“What about me?”
“Are you ok?” she asks as she settles her head onto his shoulder. This is familiar, they’ve definitely cuddled before, there’s a small comfort in that. He slowly wraps an arm around her waist and lays his head on top of hers.
“I just needed some time to think.” he admits the partial truth. She pulls back enough that she can give him one of those piercing looks of hers. One of the ones that implies she knows he isn’t telling her everything, that she knows exactly what he’s hiding.
It causes a small sheepish, partially nervous, smile to split his face. “I’ll be fine,” he assures, hugging her tighter, liking her in his arms maybe a little too much.
No matter how hard he tried, those thoughts refused to stay locked away.
He hums as he reluctantly gets them both to their feet. She’s looking at him, full of concern. He chuckles a little nervously as he says, “for now we should figure out how to get you home.”

Fish Deficit Disorder
DO YOU HAVE IT? At the Starting line, and the gunpowder is wet from two days of rain. I knew I wasn’t the only one suffering from Fish Deficit Disorder early this week, when I ran into two other fly fishers at LLELA – Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area – below Lake Lewisville-Dallas. They are new to the area, and were desperately searching for sand bass. Their instincts, to be at…

Ok but 29 though?
29. Favourite line/passage you wrote this year?
Ooooh, this is a good one. A few immediately sprang to mind and I honestly can't choose, so you get three!
From Best of friends, worst of enemies:
Sand and sand and sand and dunes: sky and clouds and vast nothings. A pen grating on paper; wings whooshing through the wind. Anthracite: black—the Taklamakan: golden. Granby inhaled, and could have sworn more air filled his lungs than it would have in London. Beneath them, an immensity of sameness, that they roamed faster than life itself: time could not grasp at those dunes, and Anthracite’s speed seemed greater here than anywhere else.
From God save the Emperor (major spoiler alert for the fic itself!):
My nails are dirty. Damn right they are: I just hauled a dead body all over your fucking immaculate tiled floor. What is it, Roman inspiration? Bet Temeraire loves it. Great estate you’ve got there. Now stained with its master’s blood. Just like my nails.
And finally, from Typhoon (WIP), my Granby/Little singer x RAF pilot AU:
“Gus!” a girl shrieks, and the stage explodes into music.
John can’t help it: he yells. Gus springs forward on stage, his fingers flying over his guitar’s strings as he leans toward his mic and starts singing, velvet voice and crimson lips. He’s chosen his most aggressive song for a lively start, and the crowd is losing it.
“GUS!” Iskierka shouts, and jumps, and John is jumping too. The bass pounds at his chest and his heart at his ears. He screams his voice raw in just the couple of verses, all the fun of the day, all its jokes, all its fights, tearing out of him through his mouth. On stage Gus is a devil in white, smooth hips and twirling curls as he sways from side to side—jumps, slides, and sings, sings all the while. His hand skids down his waist, his boots creep up his thighs; he’s innocence with a sly smirk, purity with swinging legs, chastity arching its back.
Looking back the fact that those quotes are my faves kinda prove that I have a ThingTM for lyrical writing dshkds

Gray's Lake Park - A Popular Urban Retreat
Gray's Lake Park, once a sand and gravel quarry that transformed into a picturesque oxbow-shaped lake, has been a vital part of the city since its establishment in 2001. Spanning 167 acres (67.58 hectares), with the 100-acre (40.47 hectares) lake at its core, this scenic urban park offers a wealth of recreational opportunities for locals. The lake, replenished by a nearby river, remains full year-round and is home to various fish species such as catfish, largemouth bass, and crappies, making it a popular spot for fishing (permits required).
One of the park's standout features is the Kruidenier Trail Pedestrian Bridge, which dazzles with its vibrant light display at night. Visitors can also enjoy sailing, boating, canoeing, and kite-flying, while well-maintained trails, biking paths, picnic areas, a swimming zone, a beach, and a playground cater to all ages. The park also offers bike and watercraft rentals, and pets on leashes are welcome to join in the fun.

Blue of the heaps of beads poured into her breasts and clacking together in her elbows; blue of the silk that covers lily-town at night; blue of her teeth that bite cold toast and shatter on the streets; blue of the dyed flower petals with gold stamens hanging like tongues over the fence of her dress at the opera/opals clasped under her lips and the moon breaking over her head a gush of blood-red lizards.
Blue Monday. Monday at 3:00 and Monday at 5. Monday at 7:30 and Monday at 10:00. Monday passed under the rippling California fountain. Monday alone a shark in the cold blue waters.
You are dead: wound round like a paisley shawl. I cannot shake you out of the sheets. Your name is still wedged in every corner of the sofa.
Monday is the first of the week, and I think of you all week. I beg Monday not to come so that I will not think of you all week.
You paint my body blue. On the balcony in the softy muddy night, you paint me with bat wings and the crystal the crystal the crystal the crystal in your arm cuts away the night, folds back ebony whale skin and my face, the blue of new rifles, and my neck, the blue of Egypt, and my breasts, the blue of sand, and my arms, bass-blue, and my stomach, arsenic;
there is electricity dripping from me like cream; there is love dripping from me I cannot use—like acacia or jacaranda—fallen blue and gold flowers, crushed into the street.
Love passed me in a blue business suit and fedora. His glass cane, hollow and filled with sharks and whales … He wore black patent leather shoes and had a mustache. His hair was so black it was almost blue.
“Love,” I said. “I beg your pardon,” he said. “Mr. Love,” I said. “I beg your pardon,” he said.
So I saw there was no use bothering him on the street
Love passed me on the street in a blue business suit. He was a banker I could tell.
So blue trains rush by in my sleep. Blue herons fly overhead. Blue paint cracks in my arteries and sends titanium floating into my bones. Blue liquid pours down my poisoned throat and blue veins rip open my breast. Blue daggers tip and are juggled on my palms. Blue death lives in my fingernails.
If I could sing one last song with water bubbling through my lips I would sing with my throat torn open, the blue jugular spouting that black shadow pulse, and on my lips I would balance volcanic rock emptied out of my veins. At last my children strained out of my body. At last my blood solidified and tumbling into the ocean. It is blue. It is blue. It is blue.
