I’m still ridiculously busy at the moment - at some point things have to calm down but I’m not sure when that’s going to be...🤪 In the meantime, my newly hung Water Garden Sampler is helping to keep me calm. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to wander round a garden like this, but seeing the stitched water catch the light reminds me of the sound of water splashing from a fountain, bees humming and birds twittering, and the light fragrance of roses and freshly cut lawns...summer’s coming to an end outside but at least I can cling on to it inside! ⛲️🌿🌸 . Thanks to lockdown, I didn’t mange to get the Water Garden Sampler to @anna.lorimer.art.and.framing in Rugby before we photographed it for the chart packs, so some judicious cropping was needed to avoid including the foam core and clips/pins in the final images! But as you can see, it’s now been beautifully framed and is hanging in my study/stitching den ⛲️🐝 . Karen was extremely patient with me as I played with the gazillion shades of grey/blue card, before going with the very first one she picked out (of course!) and I’m so happy with how it came out. The soft grey really brings out the depth in the blues and browns and flatters the freshness of the greens 😃 . This is the third piece Anna’s team have worked on for me and I’m really delighted with all of them - I now just need to get on with stitching the next #sampler... After a very busy time in my day job, I took some time out to catch up with ‘life admin’ so I’ve been a bit quieter than normal on social media recently. My vast list of domestic drudgery has reduced a little (how is there still so much to do?) and I’ve even persuaded my husband to take a couple of days off (mainly because I needed help lifting heavy stuff, but it all counts!). Did you know you can often turn needleroll designs into mini samplers? It’s a lovely option, particularly if you need to whip up a quick wedding/anniversary gift! . Here’s the Beehive Needleroll as a sampler, simply mounted on card, backed with a quilting cotton and edged with a delicate trim from my stash. I attached the floral trim with little stitches using a pale blue thread to match the flowers. These small designs are great for using up bits and pieces you already have around - after years of making things, I always have scraps of mount board and all sorts of backing fabrics to hand 😁 I think this trim came from Liberty’s in London, I’ve had it for years waiting for the perfect project! I found the mini easel at @hobbycrafthq in the wedding section - another of those things I picked up ages ago knowing it would come in handy one day 🤣 . Also pictured is my ‘Be Well’ free chart from last year, mounted on top of a nineteenth century pewter salt - I mounted this piece as a lid so it doubles as a pincushion and ort pot! And peeking into the bottom of the shot is the Beehive Scissor Keep - this only needs your preferred stuffing (I used rice) and a scrap of ribbon to attach it to the scissors. . It’s starting to look a little more autumnal here today - leaves are beginning to turn colour, while the local squirrels are ramping up their nut-collecting activities. . Our biggest female, Peanut, is showing early signs of another pregnancy and is particularly keen to gather as many nuts as possible! (Walnuts are the preferred option - it’s costing us a small fortune) 🥜🌰🍂🐿 .
