Is there an OC of yours that you find the most fun drawing?

I'd have to say really ANY of Team Aces Wild, mainly as i just really enjoy Sammy, Melanie, Creme, and Abernathy as like a few of my Oldest OCs. Outside of the legacy/seniority favor i give to Aces Wild, Valerie and Spade are incredibly fun to draw whenever i get the chance to do so

My friend has been suggesting I do some more designs to fit with my casino inspired setting/story, so I took on the challenge

I also redesigned my other casino based dudes since they needed an update after so long. I still have a couple more designs to figure out that I haven’t had the brain power for lol

Not all of them play a main role but I’m working on making the roles connect and make sense for this project. I’m excited to see where this all goes ^^

Left: Ten of Spades, junior member of First Recon and spotter. —"See, I w-w-wanted to be Ace of Spades. But the LT says, sorry kid, you're t-t-too green. So he calls me Ten instead. So one of the things about TUA that I find so interesting is how each of the characters reacts to the abuse of Hargreeves in a different way. It’s very close to an exploration of the full spectrum of reactions. (Season 1 in particular is a kind of study of this but I’m not going to go into Leonard here. I’m also not going to go into Lila or the abusive relationship employment of the Commission, but I have thought about those things as well.)

Luther

Luther isn’t the leader, like he thinks. He’s the enforcer. And he’s the enforcer because he is so convinced that the failure is with him, with them, and not their father. When he can no longer follow his father’s will in s2, he finds a new powerful man to enforce for—in a very literal way.

Luther, especially in s1-2, is a difficult character to like. He’s an ass, he’s always convinced he’s right, and he’s always wheedling to be heard, to be obeyed, to be listened to. And he is the cause of much of his siblings’ suffering.

It’s quite sad from another angle, though. He seeks out another powerful man in s2 because he very much does not have any internalized framework of his own—of right and wrong, or even really of likes and dislikes.

Once he sets that need for control down, he’s mostly just this goofy, slouchy guy. He doesn’t know what’s happening, going to happen, or what’s right. He just takes things as they come.

As a comparison to a character many of us find much more appealing, Dean Winchester is also an enforcer. The difference is, one of John’s directives is to protect Sammy, and his own reaction is in that same direction, like many abused kids. Protect your sibling. Which creates this deeply codependent dynamic that we see throughout the show. (They also have a bit of golden child / scapegoat going on, which we’ll come back around to.)

Ben

The one who dies. I’m not going to say too much about this beyond sometimes that, too, is a consequence of abuse.

Allison

The one who perpetuates the cycle. I really like this because I don’t fully like the adage ‘hurt people hurt people.’ Hargreeves is an abuser because he feels justified in his abuse.

Allison does it because she didn’t grow up with any other skills, and because it feels safe. Her first acts of abuse are with her daughter, because she is a frustrated and overwhelmed parent with no other skills to manage her own emotions. But she does well in therapy, and we see her leveraging those skills to push back against ingrained family dynamics.

But whenever she is lost and afraid in the world, she resorts to abuse to get what she wants. And more and more through the story, we see her abandoning compassion and emotional regulation in favor of taking her feelings out on others. Because she decides it’s justified.

Five

The runaway. Five rebels to escape the abuse, and gets re-traumatized out in the world. But he also steals his autonomy back and crafts his own completely-formed identity. Look. That’s not to say that the dude doesn’t have issues in spades. But he can talk to Hargreeves, interact with him at any stage in the game, and not have it shake his identity to the core. Both the trauma that he chooses and his own choice for responsibility and autonomy determines who Five becomes.

Diego

There’s a sequence from House, MD that I feel like sums up Diego’s reaction to the abuse quite nicely. House is late to his dad’s funeral and he explains to Wilson how punishing his (abusive) father was about punctuality. He explains that he is deliberately careless around time because he didn’t want to make his father’s issues HIS issues. And Wilson, incredulous, shoots back with, “Thereby MAKING it your issue!”

Yeah. That’s Diego. He defines himself in opposition to Hargreeves. And he even says so explicitly. He’s all about fighting crime, “the right way.” But he defines himself so in opposition to authority (and to people in general) that he gets kicked out of the police force and burns his first romantic relationship to ashes. He just can’t stop fighting.

Klaus

The addict. Addiction is a common response to abuse. And Klaus is a full-blown addict. A thief, willing to do anything and everything for his next score. He’ll injure himself, terrorize others, go dumpster diving, steal, defraud. Really there are no limits to what he’ll do. And yet we always feel he’s a sunshiney sweetheart right from the start. Even so, the “anything to score to escape my demons” is a keen literalization of the addiction response to abuse.

Viktor

The scapegoat

“Everything is always your fault.” This is the one who gets blamed for the family’s problems, who gets punished and punished and ignored. This is the one who is always in the wrong. And Viktor is such a great character in season 1 & 2 for this because he’s both reactions to that. He is the explosive anger, the rage and indignity. And he’s the one broken by any means necessary, heaped with family blame, with no sense of what he wants or who he is. And also, in s1, exceptionally vulnerable to an abuser masquerading as everything he ever wanted.

I just. It’s so multifaceted. It’s such a good exploration of abuse and this is only one sliver of that. TUA has its flaws, and I thought s3 was such a mixed bag, but this is one piece they just NAILED.

Charles and Barry are the King in the Human Realm - 2 out of 3, in fact. The rest of the characters on the ref sheet are the five Overlords of the End Realm, who rule next to Raff. They're all responsible for different things (I will say later) and of course, come from different realms too. Charles and Barry have personal beef with Tim, hahaha.

Gua-Yin Hsü - Ghost (previously Angel) - she/he/they - Aroace - 38 y.o - The Lady of the Dead. The most mysterious (and tallest) Overlord, who's responsible for the Dead. People in the End Realm cannot escape by simply dying. Was banished from the Ether Realm but used to be a ruler there. - (Inspited by: Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy in Chinese folk religion, as well as King Yan, the God of Death; Queen Angela from She-Ra) - No voice claim yet, but I take requests!

Caelus - Angel (by this universe's definition) - he/him - Bisexual - 35 y.o - The Lord of the Sky. The Overlord who is responsible for everything in the sky (duh). Was banished from the Ether Realm alongside Gua-Yin Hsü and ruled that realm alongside her. - (No real inspiration, but pls don't compare him to Amon from My Movie 14, it's a coincidence that they look kinda similar T_T) - Voice Claim: Benjamin Stuart Steele

Little Wing, chapter 6

“Cloppy,” said Cas, firmly.  “Her name is Cloppy.  She’s my horsey.”

Carlos ruffled Cas’s hair. “Of course she is.  And if you want, she can go in a special horsey bath so she’s all clean.”

Cas patted his hair back into place, frowning.  “She might not like that.”

“Bring her up to the house later, and you can watch her go around and around in the washer.”  He stood up.  “I mean it - we’re up the path just past the parking lot.  Come up later and you can do whatever laundry you have.”

“Thanks,” said Dean.  “We’ll do that.”  Shit.  Laundry.  When he just wanted to lie down and chill the fuck out.  And maybe even sleep.  For a change.

Carlos left, and Dean dumped his load of treasure outside the hut, arms aching, especially the injured one which was stiff and sore.  Cas’s gaze was fixed on Carlos’ departing back.  “Cloppy isn’t laundwy,” he said crossly.  “And I don’t fink she wants to go awound and awound.”

Uff.  Laundry and a battle to be fought.  His arm twinged sharply as he picked up the surfboard.  “Well Cloppy ain’t going anywhere near your bed if she don’t get washed up,” said Dean.  “So think on that before you kick up a fuss.” 

Cas humphed and kicked his legs in the sand, carving out a hollow beneath his chair, Cloppy clutched to his chest.

Now Dean was being a bitch.  Cas was just a little kid.  Jack would be pissed with Dean if he knew he was being a mean bastard.  But Jack was God, so of course he knew.  He’d probably be here any minute to pick Cas up and take him somewhere else, where he’d be looked after better. 

Dean leant the surfboard against the side of the hut.  He set the big bucket just outside the door and left the small bucket and the spades inside it.

Cas clutched his stuffed horse-thing and whispered to it.

Huh.  It was just like when Sammy had that tattered old stuffed rabbit.  What had that thing’s name been?  Carrots.  Typical Sammy, naming his toy after a vegetable.  He’d screeched like a banshee whenever Dean had shoved it in the washer along with the clothes.  

Bunnies can’t swim, you jerk!  Little Sam had kicked him hard, and he’d had a bruise on his shin for more than a week.

Sure they can swim, bitch.  Just you’re too stupid to read Watership Down or you’d know that.  He’d had to hide that one from Dad.  Reading a book about talking rabbits?  Dad would have freaked.  Dean smirked at the memory.  Carrots could’ve won an Olympic gold in swimming, the amount of times he’d had to be washed.

Ageretober Day 13

I literally just finished these drawings-

While at an apple orchard, poor little Sammy nearly encountered her awful twin sister, Amy. Thankfully, Ella guided Sammy away before Amy could get a chance to harass them

And when Sammy and Ella got home, Ella took some of the apples from their trip to the apple orchard and made candied apples, successfully distracting the poor girl from the near bad-encounter.

The Mannequin and Silly Kitty don’t really need elaboration on where they are in the mall but I felt like Tick and Tock needed some further elaboration on the matter. 

So, they’re from a place in the food court, ‘Wonderland Theatre’ (name pending), real retro theming. Designed some of the other animatronics that’d be there as well, though Tick and Tock are the only Alive ones, currently at least. Its not really relevant but I imagine the Rat King came from the same circus Ollie did originally, it’s had some changes but Ollie would probably still recognize it.

Besides Tick and Tock coming from here, I think this might be where Mary works! See, I had imagined when Dolly meets back up with Mary (them being friends that had grown distant recently) after Love Bugg prodding them to go out and socialize, it’s by coincidence at the mall when Dolly goes to eat, since Mary is working wherever that is- and I figure, hey, this is totally the place Dolly would go. And its totally a place Mary would choose to work at because she’d love a food place that decided to be a little fun and silly in the face of modern Boringness and Unification of how Every store Ever looks. 

I also think it would be! very funny! that there was something Paranormal right under Dolly and Mary’s (and Sammy but he probably didn’t go here except to see Mary while she was working sometimes maybe) noses the whole time! Probably even before Dolly brought Love Bugg to life! They could’ve found out about the ‘bringing inanimate objects to life’ thing wayyyy before working on Ollie if only they were there at the right time. Probably best they learned it from Ollie, though. 

Some additional notes! Rat King breaks the color palette of the other three just a weee bit because of its origins of not being built for the Wonderland! You probably noticed there’s a bit of theming going on here as well; each have a card suit (Diamond for Tick, Spade for Tock, Heart for Rat King, and Club for Teatime) as well as an alice in wonderland character they are (vaguely) based on (The White Rabbit for Tick and Tock, the Queen of Hearts for Rat King, and the Mad Hatter for Teatime). Plus, I did have the idea of them all being ‘rodents’- rabbits aren’t actually but you know what I mean, small mammal guys with those Vibes. They used to be classified as rodents, at least, so I’m counting it.
