Well, I guess I largely vanished for the past couple of days for some people. We unexpectedly lost two of our ratties, one of which was one I had a close bond with, so that sure knocked me out for a day. I've been taking care of one of our little old ladies, Sammy, and we expected she would leave us fairly soon, but we lost Willow and Abbie within just a couple of days of each other instead. Have some cute photos of baby abbie and willow since they were Very Loved and had happy lives. Baby Abbie! When we saw how tiny she was (stunted growth, runt) and her little broken tail we had to take her home with us... somehow, miraculously, she could still move the whole tail! It's a mystery how it broke in the first place, and no one knew when we got her. We never had it amputated since it wasn't causing her any distress, and it just over time came to look like a little pikachu tail to us. She was my little heart rat and was glued to me near constantly.

So cute in her pot pie the incredibly sweet /sadcute photos of her mommy, Bonnie (still with us!) protecting her the day we adopted them. They were adopted together due to their previous owners having to move and not being able to keep them. Bonnie was convinced we were going to steal her baby, so she kept sitting on her like this:

Willow was curious and wanted to make friends faster than Bonnie wanted, but Bonnie warmed up and finally stopped guarding so heavily. Part of her warming up included her adopting me, so uh... rat mom? She treats me like a baby rat. Mom, I'm a full grown Rat, thank you. Willow was ***fascinated*** sitting and watching Resident Evil 4. She sat through the whole game and any time a loud noise would happen she'd ZOOP back into a sleeve...then poke back out, ears perked and whiskers going. She did the same thing last christmas when we opened presents, so RE4 gets called "CHRISTMAS 4" in our house. also to the other ratty keepers out there, don't worry, the little cage is only a nursery/hospital cage and playtime cage, they lived in a giant critter nation with lots of friends. Anyway, I'm a little sad still so I wanted to share some cute photos and celebrate them instead. We're probably going to be looking around at the local breeders to see if anyone has any baby girls ready for adoption.

This is Mold, who is filled with so many illnesses that he has Gone Insane (TM). He screams constantly and offers anyone who interacts with him freshly squeezed diseases. His familiar Des always carries a pitcher and cups for such an occasion :)

Kasio is an absent minded but good natured cosmologist who serves as the head of the Starlight Archives. His familiar Stanley is an eager young scholar with an unfortunate tendency to overwork himself.

Freesia is a kindly young druid who travels the Viridian Labyrinth in search of rare plants to use in her salves. Salvia, her familiar, has a short temper and would absolutely club someone over the head

Valence is very much a mad scientist, and has an ego the size of the Tempest Spire. Levolier, or "Levi", serves as his lab assistant.

Riptide is a grizzled yet humble fisherman living in the quaint seaside town of Port Nacre. His familiar Sammy was adopted at a young age, and is Riptide's gremlin son who tries to eat all the fish they're supposed to sell.

If you think Valence had a big ego, then you haven't met Tytin. His overconfidence is so inflated that he keeps an Emperor (which he named Kevin) as a pet. While Kevin is no Luminax in terms of power, he could still cause serious harm if freed from his restraints. Soli, Tytin's familiar, is very tired and does her best to control the damage caused by Tytin's arrogance

I showed off Rhys in my last post. She's an up-and-coming singer sponsored by a wealthy heiress named Emilita. She currently sings at taverns, but has the potential to become a superstar. Her familiar Mehri is the deadpan sort, but helps her dragon friend out by waitressing at the taverns.

Terra is the bombastic leader of a team of subterranean explorers. I mentioned Aerfen in the last post- she's Terra's adoptive mother! Her hulking yet gentle familiar Gustav enjoys the grapes from the family vineyard

Aile is a traveling bard. Her ribbonlike form seems to twirl in tune to her lyre's strings. Henri, her familiar, is easily confused, but often has a good time anyway.

Finally, here's Alba! He's a funny ice wizard who may or may not be an escapee from the Fortress of Ends. His familiar Cyril is steadfast, but has a crush on Mehri.

born & raised in a small town in michigan. shanley's childhood was as 'normal' as you could imagine. one straight out of a disney film with a loving mother and father and two sisters (older & younger) who protected her. like your typical middle child, shanley did everything she could to stand out, putting on performances with her sisters and making sure to be the director, the producer & the lead. she refused to be in anyone's shadow - making sure to leave an impression on everyone in every room she walked in. in school, shanley never cared about her studies - doing her best to pass her classes (but girly is smart af,, think jess mariano from gilmore girls but *spoiler* actually graduates) and keep her in the extracurricular activities - volleyball & theater. she loved the attention & made it her goal to be the lead in almost every play , which always happened. loud & confident, she was the girl who made sure everyone around her was comfortable and not left out. definitely the one to call out the bully and protect the bullied. she was never scared of anything or anyone. it might be because of her parents who always reminded her to reach for the stars, nothing was impossible & if she fell, she would always have them to catch her. after high school, shanley knew school was not an option. only attending community college to have a back up plan and to please her parents. she received her associates degree in business management while taking pilates classes and completing a training program to become certified. soon after, winter house was proposed to the group & with this new found fame, shanley took it as an opportunity to chase her dreams. she moved to los angeles where she does press for the show & instruct classes three times a week.

Quando Marvin Segrest si avvicinò a Samuel intimandogli di non orinare in quel bagno per soli bianchi lui avrebbe potuto fare come aveva fatto ogni altro nero prima di lui.

Obbedire ed andare al pisciatoio destinato agli afroamericani.

Anzi, avrebbe proprio potuto scegliere di non fermarsi in quella stazione di servizio, di farla nei campi, per strada, di essere ligio alla legge dello stato dell’Alabama che imponeva una rigida segregazione tra Black People e White People, anche nei “cessi”.

Ma Samuel non era un ragazzo qualunque.

Era un giovane idealista, un attivista per i diritti civili della sua gente, un ex soldato della marina. Uno che il razzismo lo aveva sentito sul collo, attaccato alla pelle, a scuola, in chiesa, durante la leva. E così aveva scelto di combatterlo. Era già stato arrestato e picchiato per le sue battaglie, ma non aveva mollato. In quei giorni si trovava nella contea di Macon per partecipare ad una campagna a favore della registrazione dei neri nei seggi elettorali.

E allora come sarebbe potuto tornare tra i suoi compagni, tra la gente che invitava a ribellarsi, se lui per primo non fosse stato fedele ai propri ideali?

Ligio al principio per cui “il mondo cambia col tuo esempio” Samuel rifiutò di andarsene, come Marvin Segrest, addetto alla pompa di benzina, gli aveva ordinato di fare.

In altri momenti e in altri luoghi la vicenda sarebbe finita qui, magari con qualche insulto reciproco o al massimo con due o tre cazzotti.

Invece no. Perché siamo in Alabama e siamo nel 1966.

Così Marvin Segrest non ci pensa un attimo a prendere la pistola e a crivellare di colpi Samuel.

Voleva pisciare nel bagno dei bianchi e questo era più che sufficiente per spezzare la sua giovane vita.

Samuel "Sammy" Leamon Younge Jr. divenne così il primo nero attivista per i diritti civili ucciso negli Stati Uniti e l’ennesimo di una lunga serie di afroamericani ammazzati per futili motivi o semplicemente per esercitare una legale posizione di dominio.

Dopo la sua morte in migliaia scesero per le strade di Tuskegee, la sua città natale, per rendere omaggio al suo eroismo e denunciare che il suo assassino non era stato nemmeno incriminato.

Alla fine il processo per Segrest arrivò ma una giuria di soli bianchi lo scagionò da ogni accusa, lasciandolo, come sempre avveniva in questi casi, a piede libero.

In fondo aveva ucciso solo un nero.

Potremmo dire che fu Marvin ad uccidere Samuel, ed è vero perché fu lui a sparare i colpi che gli tolsero la vita, ma in realtà fu la mentalità razzista, imperante e legalizzata, a far sì che un ragazzo di appena ventidue anni perdesse la vita solo per aver avuto il coraggio di entrare nel bagno “sbagliato”.

Tokyo reported 1,763 brand-new Covid-19 cases Sunday, the 2nd main day of competitors for the Olympic Games, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

Last Sunday, the Japanese capital reported 1,008 brand-new Covid-19 cases.

There have actually been 137 Covid-19 cases connected to the Tokyo 2020 Games, according to organizers.
