The votes are in, and #JusticeforKevin is trending. Also #JusticeforEmma. And hoo boy, if I thought the Dean Crimes tags were rough, they had NOTHING on the ones on this poll. So many notes covering so much ground that it was easier just to post screenshots of them than to try and summarize like I did with the other polls.
Sam girls, shield your eyes!

That escalated. 😬 Anyway a lot of you were forgiving of the soulless crimes, which I find so intriguing!
Like the concept of souls in Supernatural is so muddled and complicated, but it's pretty clear that it isn't a removal of the ability to understand right from wrong, or even a removal of impulse control. So it's not like he didn't know intellectually what the right thing to do was. It's that he simply didn't give a shit anymore.
Contrast that with someone like Donatello, who also didn't have a soul but didn't become callous, cruel, or chaotic (until he was driven mad, but that wasn't directly related to the soullessness). In a way the soulless plotline of season 6 was like seeing behind the curtain of Sam's guilt. And what's there was a big ole Yikes.

True, no notes.
Tumblr media
I consider this a writer crime tbh but also true.
Tumblr media
Yes!! This. ALL of it.
Also there were some people who were Very vocal about not giving a shit about Emma or even thinking she deserved to die?? People. She was three days old! And unlike precious murder baby Jack, who this fandom rightly adores, she never actually hurt anybody!
Tumblr media
NICU nurse, you will always be semi-famous.
Tumblr media
As a deancoded casgirl I am dying at the idea that Cas's crimes are the okayest, considering he's the only one who committed war crimes. xD I love this fandom.
Tumblr media
So true bestie. Samgirls took the least character of all time and created so many interesting facets out of the bare bones and inconsistent characterization in canon. They teased out the most minor details. Samgirls are to Sam what Jensen Ackles is to Dean, tbh.
Tumblr media
Bestie I do not have enough time to answer that. It cannot be explained, it needs to be experienced. Preferably with a guide to catch you up on all the behind-the-scenes nonsense and fandom lore.
Something else? Put it in the tags!

Hello not sure if this is the best place but I saw your deancoded/deancrit post and wanted to ask about it. I guess this came up after I stepped away from the fandom for a bit but what is the explanation behind dean/cas/Sam coded stuff? What about deancoded cas girl? Is there like a good post that explains that?
hi! no worries at all! honestly, I'm relatively new to fandom. I've watched Supernatural as a casual (normal?) fan for years until 15x18 brought me back. so. I'm with you but am maybe a terrible source
I had tried to find some posts when I was explaining this to my friend. I didn't find a definitive explanation, but I'll share my interpretation and if anyone has something to add or correct, I hope they'll jump in!
the dean/cas/sam-coded tends to be the character you relate to or identify with the most and/or "kin" as the kids say. like, if you call yourself dean-coded, it means you're identifying with some aspect of the character or his actions.
the dean/cas/sam-girl thing is more like your favourite character or like the one you simp for. so, like, a deangirl's favourite character is dean in a more aesthetic way than a "I see myself in this guy" way.
the "crit" label is short for "critical" and I suppose was the backlash from "apologist". I usually see both those labels mostly applied to dean (deancrit or dean apologist) because, well, being either of those things is probably the most divisive thing you can be on this hellsite.
so, a dean-coded casgirl would be someone who personally identifies most strongly with dean as a character and whose favourite character/the character they love most is cas. which, similarly to someone who is deancrit and dean-coded, would be pretty canon-compliant. (dean winchester is a casgirl. the only other character who approaches dean's casgirlism is metatron. I will not be taking any questions.)
I used to use the labels for fun because it's a kind of an in-group shorthand for expressing your point of view/where you're approaching something, but some people also take those labels as identities very seriously and I do my very best to avoid taking anything to do with this silly little show (affectionate) very seriously. they're fun to use though if it's more chill / a joke.
fwiw, I'd be deancrit dean-coded casgirl probs
as always, there's a lot of fandom drama tied up with the groups of people who identify with these labels, and I feel like that's mostly with samgirls and destiel and cas/misha-antis. when I was looking for posts when I was talking to my friend, I thought this post gave a good broad strokes description of how these are kind of used on a macro-fandom level.
I hope this helps! I am sadly but a little guy but I'm having a good time lolol

what do you think of wincest? you seem pretty pro ship
my opinion of wincest is as follows:
- personally, i dislike it. i think it’s gross and don’t want to see it, because incest squicks me out like it does most people. there are actually parts of spn, especially the early seasons, which i find difficult to watch because the incest subtext is so strong. this is one of the reasons i’m not as big a fan of 1-3: just HUGE amounts of incest subtext. like, it’s yucky to me. even 4-5 have it, though not as much since cas and to a lesser extent ruby are there to like, break up the pair, which is a real relief. it calms down significantly in the later seasons, though it still pops up occasionally in an unpleasant way. this is why you cannot base your show on the xfiles and then make your two main characters related.
- theoretically, i don’t think there’s anything wrong with finding a fictional dynamic compelling. hell, the writers of supernatural sure seem to find it compelling! the subtext is unbearable, and imo, there’s a reasonable argument to be made that the winchester brothers’ relationship is textually emotionally incestuous, which is like. yeah add that on the pile of ways that their dynamic is abusive and toxic.
and more specifically, i find it hysterical when destiel shippers get on their moral high horse about ethics in shipping. like, my friends, destiel is perhaps the glassest house there is when it comes to ethics in shipping. in ANY OTHER FANDOM we would be the problematic pairing that only freaks ship. it’s just that supernatural has so much incest subtext that the non-incest ship gets to be the unproblematic one by default. like destiel is a comparatively healthy fish in an unbelievably toxic pond. in any other pond destiel would be the toxic fish.
- practically, i dislike wincest shippers because they are mostly assholes. i’m sure there’s a few okay ones, but on the whole they tend to suck. this is true for several reasons.
supernatural has a large conservative fandom, including conservative transformative fans. like, specifically, the show is very appealing to homophobes because of like. the way that it is. you know. so wincest appeals specifically to homophobic fans for whom the incest taboo and the gay taboo are of about equal strength - they see being gay as so immoral that you might as well be fucking your sibling. this is i think why wincest shippers tend to be conservative, and it’s DEFINITELY part of the reason why it’s so common to find wincest shippers who also insist that dean is straight. my friend hannah has some things to say on this topic here.
if i was a samgirl i would wake up every single day mad about wincest and go to sleep every single day mad about wincest, because it must be INESCAPABLE in sam content. like, most fandom content is tied to ships in some manner, and the biggest ship for sam is wincest. and that has gotta suck.
related to my last point, in order for a “ship and let ship” mindset to be reasonable, the objectionable content in question must be made easy to avoid. and wincest isn’t, it’s everywhere. it’s easier these days because there are fewer wincest shippers, but back in the day it was just constant. and even now, like. the other day somebody wrote a destiel fic on my destiel post, but it was destiel and implies wincest. on my destiel and only destiel post. like, that’s like putting rape porn on someone else’s post about sex. like, i think it’s important that people be allowed to write rape porn, because if they’re not allowed to write rape porn, they’ll do it anyway (rape fantasy is one of the five most common sexual fantasies among women, iirc) but since they’re not allowed to write it, they’ll 1) not warn for it and 2) come up with justifications as to why it’s not really rape. which are both worse than just acknowledging it and slapping warnings on it. but you shouldn’t basically send people rape porn unprompted, that’s what they call a dick move. like that crosses a line. in the case of the person who put wincest on my post, i messaged her about it and she apologized and explained that she hadn’t participated in fandom in ten years, and had only gotten back in after the destiel confession, which is like. that’s reasonable. social etiquette re:wincest is different now. but there are plenty of wincest shippers who DON’T have that excuse and who make themselves inescapable anyway.
to quote my friend hannah again, “my grand unified theory is that whatever it is that makes wincest shippers act like That is also shared by jaime/cersei shippers. it’s the narcissistic, misanthropic fantasy of a tiny closed world containing only two siblings who don’t need or care about anyone else and have absolutely no boundaries with each other”
there is a real serious difference between liking wincest in 2005 and liking it in 2021. destiel is such a juggernaut, and fandom culture has changed so much in regards to “problematic” content, that anyone who is still a wincest shipper in 2021 is either 1) just a complete stubborn asshole or 2) living in a fandom time capsule, and both of those things are not necessarily inherently bad, but (1) can lead to just having a rather unpleasant personality, and (2) can lead to being surrounded by levels of homophobia, misogyny, and racism that aren’t usually tolerated by modern fandom
anyway. i’m not “pro-ship” because calling yourself a proshipper or an antishipper is an annoying habit for whiny babies and i refuse to participate.

Ask me stuff!!!
tagged by @jew-flexive!!! thanks so much!
three ships: I guess it’s my era of exposing myself. so. #1 is sam/jess from hit tv show supernatural for uneventful and samgirl related reasons. #2 is destiel, also from hit tv show supernatural. because they make me a little insane. #3 is most likely ronan/adam in the raven cycle, however I am also extremely partial to adam/gansey as well.
first ever ship: I was a weird kid and had an unhealthy obsession with the gregor the overlander series by suzzane colins... so probably gregor/luxa.
last song: jeepster by T. Rex. this is all I feel like disclosing.
last film: honestly great question. I watch a lot more tv than I do movies, but I’m 80% sure the last one I (re)watched was knives out.
currently reading: zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance but im only 2 pages in which is unfortunate.
currently watching: I am in a constant rewatch of the haunting of hill house, russian doll, and community because. all time favorites. I am about halfway through midnight mass (another mike flanagan show I know) which I am really enjoying but a little scared to continue.
currently consuming: manzana y frutas del bosque juice. very good very nice.
currently craving: a nice piece of toast with ricotta and figs and honey on it... I am so ready for when figs are back in season.
tagging @t4tsamjess @sam-winchester-kinnie and @transmascsam and anyone else who wants to join in!!!!!!

I never expected to find myself voting for "The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo," which I consider to be a subpar episode of SPN, but I'll take it over "Bitten," which is trying its hardest not to be an episode of SPN at all. Its main function is to complicate the show's werewolf lore, in a way that in fails to Sam and Dean's characters, alter their plans, or even give them a good puzzle to solve.
Why do we need "pureblood werewolves"? Say it out loud, it sounds cheesy and stupid. We don't even find out how Sam and Dean got their hands on the new lore about them, and in fact, it's a really weird time for them to get it. If, for some reason, the writers just loved the concept, they should've put it in motion either right after the brothers inherited Bobby's library, or right after they inherited the MoL bunker-- two pivotal events with the potential to alter the brothers' perspectives on monsters. But now? Sam's spent a year as a civilian, Dean's spent a year in Purgatory, and neither of them's stayed in contact with other hunters. When, where, and how did they dig up this rare information about one of the most famous monster species in existence?
I'm not sure who the focus of this episode was meant to appeal to, either. We've had outsider-POV eps before, like "The Usual Suspects" and "Roadkill," but those involved outsiders who interacted with one or both brothers, not randos that the brothers only see in found footage. "Bitten" clearly wasn't written for Samgirls, Deangirls, Bibros, or people who watch for the plot; it doesn't even throw a bone to fans of supporting/recurring characters like Castiel or Garth. Again, who was the target audience?
I will say that 1) the recurring "office romance' gag is funny; and 2) a scene near the end, where Dean agrees with Sam that they should give Kate a chance, could demonstrate some sort of Benny-related character growth for Dean. Unfortunately, that scene also makes Dean's secrecy about Benny look dumber than it already did. He confirms that Sam's first instinct is still to show compassion to monsters; why not get the Benny question out of the way now, before Sam finds out and assumes that Benny must be worse than the other monsters they've let go?
Supernatural Battle of the Episodes!!
Looks like Born-Again Identity swept its way right into the Hall of Fame!! Taking its place will be The Girl With the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo for giving it the best fight!
How long will it last?
Chuck: It's first match is against what I feel is the worst episode of s8 and my 3rd least favorite episode of the series, Bitten - The episode that is basically a home video shot by college kids when one gets turned into a werewolf and Sam and Dean only get about 3 mins of screen time.

Hey, i binged the first 14 episodes of Supernatural just last week and enjoyed it so far. But have struggled to hype myself up to finish the series. I found out the last episodes are coming out in October and think it would be cool to catch up by then so i can watch the last ones as soon as they come out. Could you give a (as spoiler free as possible?) list of what about the show make it great to you overall? Things to look forward to, cool plot development, favorite characters, whichever...
hi, anon!
i don’t know, anon, when i first heard i have these nightmares--and sometimes they come true in early s1 and as long as I’m there nothing bad’s gonna happen to you at the end of 1.14  back in the day, i was pretty hyped af to find out what happened next. but to be fair, 2006 was a different era altogether and some vaguely defined potential Special Ability that doesn’t even work unless Certain People are involved isn’t too exciting when every show these days with two pennies to scrape together for a VFX budget has its characters move things with their mind while shooting blue lightning out their ass.
sorry, i digress. i don’t really know how to sell this unwieldy chimera of a show to you--or if i even should--but let me give it the old college try:
1. for such a long-running show, spn has a tiny list of dramatis personae. on one hand, this means that it can feel intimate and its emotional beats deeply resonant, with long and complicated character arcs and interpersonal dynamics; but on the other hand, if you don’t find them interesting or they’re just, you know, actively annoying, you’re fucked, because there are only ever three or four main characters at any point on the show and two of them never. change.
1.5. spn has also demonstrated--inadvertently perhaps--that having fewer characters to divide fannish devotion means more stans per character and more friction between these large groups of character stans. somewhere along the way the terms samgirl and deangirl have come to symbolise more than just a mere preference for one character over the other; it’s become a fandom shorthand for personality much in the way of astrological signs or MBTI types: utterly meaningless, but people insist on defining their identity that way anyway.
(i say this not just as a card-carrying samgirl, but a bitter samgirl).
2. it’s also quite claustrophobic at times. sam and dean are ostensibly driving all around small-town america, but what we usually see is One Possibly Canadian Town indistinguishable from the other. as i mentioned before, the characters are few and spn rarely attempts to relate to current events or make any kind of subtle/meaningful social or political commentary (tho others may disagree with me on this). but this also means that the stories that it deals with have a timeless quality to them: family and trauma and existential angst and the Power of Love and the ways all of them can fuck you up. spn is at its absolute best when it’s dealing with stories on a deeply personal level, sometimes literally burrowing into their characters’ heads and having the entire universe mirror the dynamics of its central relationship.
2.5. this can be a liiiitle hard to reconcile with how the show keeps raising its stakes with every season, but again, when spn is really on its game, it keeps finding new and creative ways to explore the personal with the universal, and when it’s not, you have supposedly cosmic entities reduced to the most boring metaphor imaginable for modern-day capitalist culture.
3. there’s something that spn does that i love which is turn really absurd premises into a thin veneer over a dark abyss of existential trauma which is something it doesn’t do nearly enough in the latter seasons, which is a great pity.
4. a quick rundown of the seasons:
1 - looks pretty and ends very strongly but also suffers from a case of early 00s uninspired-genre-television-itis
2 - Now This Is Where Things Get Interesting; sets up themes that are explored repeatedly for the next 13 years; please look out for ava wilson, an actual Queen
3 - a reminder that this show has been around long enough to actually have a season that was truncated by the 08 writers’ strike; plus, it contains my favourite episode of the whole show and possibly my favourite episode of television ever
4 - A MAGNIFICENT SEASON that gets better with every rewatch. the closest to flawless this show has ever gotten
5 - contains a number of the show’s best and most iconic episodes, but also sets up a lot of the show’s more... problematic motifs
6 - a HUGELY underrated season depicting some of the most delightfully creative explorations of the aftermath of deep and unusual trauma that i’ve seen, dark and thorny and uncomfortable but so goddamned sharp
7 - kind of gave up on itself halfway through; the last time this show ever took any risks/bold choices with respect to its world-building
8 - you know how these days even the most hotshot, rebellious, high-spirited, come-out-of-nowhere-with-nothing-but-heart-and-ill-advised-amounts-of-courage hero is revealed to have actually descended from some important Hero Bloodline and whoops did you think even fiction was going to indulge in the fantasy that just anybody could change the world? yeah.
9 - should’ve been this show’s turning point, except it turned a whole 360 degrees. still has some really iconic episodes, tho.
10 - eh. skippable after the first few episodes.
11 - the point where i stopped watching regularly. still horrifying but more bleak and despairing than jump-scare-and-gore
12 - this season is a black hole for me. for the life of me i can’t remember what happened in s12 - did it exist? or did spn just skip that number like some hotels skip a floor number entirely? huh.
13 + 14 - Listen It’s A Very Competitive Market And The Only Strong Thing Going For Us Is Our Large And Devoted Fandom So Let’s Obliterate The Fourth Wall Altogether And Go Full Meta, Who Gives A Shit? it’s spn back to being absurd to cover up a pit of howling, abyssal horror, and frankly it’s delightful.
5. the fandom, man. i’ve been spoiled rotten. there is nothing that can’t be found in spn fandom, no matter how brilliant or terrible or eye-searingly horrifying, and this is something i’ve chased in other fandoms with no success.
In conclusion:  watch it if you like, it can be a cool show. But That’s Just My Opinion, Bro.

Get to Know Me
SPN Questions Thanks @aborddelimpala i figured it out
1. When did you start watching Supernatural?
Feb 29th 2015. My friend had been bugging me for months, I was recluctant. She told me to just watch s1 and 2 and if I wasnt hooked by the end of s2 then we can pick something else... well... here I am!!
2. Who is your favorite in TFW?
Im a Samgirl but I love Dean too!
3. Who is your least favorite in TFW?
Cas, hes useless beyond the occasional pep talk anymore
5. Who is your favorite character (not including TFW)?
Rowena, she acts a;; badass but shes a softy
6. Who is your favorite woman in Supernatural?
Rowena... same as above
7. John or Mary?
John definitely! No he wont win Father of the Year, but he loved his boys enough to die for them. He didnt cjose to eliminate them from his life after they died for him to help a flock of strangers in another world.
8. What were your first opinions of Sam, Dean, Cas, and Jack?
Sam: Awww hes gonna be drop dead gorgeous when he grows up Dean: Cute little smart ass aint he? Cas: Angels have weird lips Jack: Well hes gonna be fun!
9. What’s your favorite season?
Season 12, maybe the sexiest of all seasons, and I liked the scaled back theme. More personal and the big bad was just humans. The boys looked amazing too!
10. What’s your least favorite season?
3 or 10. even though they both had some good episodes. I felt like 3 really really lacked an arc. Yes they were trying to keep Dean from Hell but they never got close. 10s MOC arc had potential they never saw through with. How did the fact that Cain killed his brother never come up in conversation?
11. Opinions on Destiel?
Its a fan fiction ship. Its never going to happen and generally I dont care if people ship it, its just when they get obnoxious about it that it pisses me off.
12. Do you believe Supernatural queerbaits?
Not even remotely. Queerbaiting would be if the show acted like they would develop a queer relationship and never do. The show never does such a thing, only some fans with a fetish do.
13. Seasons 1-7 or 8-14?
8-14, I like Sam and Dean more the older they get
14. Favorite villain (plot wise)?
The BMOL:
15. Do you think they should end the Lucifer plot line?
Not at all... the best series arc they have had is the Sam vs Lucifer story. They just need to get back to that and make Lucifer more impressive and not a spoiled 15 yr old
16. Who do you think has gone through more trauma (Sam, Dean, or Cas)?
Sam & Dean both. They’ve both been through Hell (figuratively & literally)
17. What’s your favorite Supernatural episode?
Who We Are and Swan Song... though Im adding Prophet and Loss to that list.
18. Do you like case episodes?
Moreso now than I used to. In the early seasons it got boring just chasing monsters, I liked the myth episodes to move the story along, but now the MOTWs are much better and I really apreciate just the bros together
19. Who do you relate most to in TFW?
I relate to both Sam and Dean for different aspects of my life.
20. Why do you like Supernatural?
I love Sam and Dean and their psychotic  co dependency. Jared and Jensen are wonderful actors and I cant imagine anyone playing a better Sam and Dean
21. If you could bring back one character and kill off another who would they be?
Kill off Claire and bring back Mick Davies
Tag: whoever who wants to answer :)
