Here are the movie posters and info for my "Fake Dating" fill for the @sambuckylibrary's TFATWS Anniversary Event. The film is Just My Type, a story about childhood rivals and frenemies All-Star Hitter Sam Wilson and Local Weatherman Bucky Barnes finding themselves in the precarious position of fake dating. However, these two find love with each other as they fake date, and begin to truly date by the end.

you can sing me anything [AU, 4K words, 1 chapter, Part 2 in a series, complete] - sequel to a friend of any sort, in which Bucky needs Sam to return the favor and pretend to be his boyfriend to get him out of an awkward situation (and into a better, but still kind of awkward situation). ☕😻

a little Sambucky ~

Bucky starts collecting vinyls. Sam notices them accumulate in his apartment. How very typical of Bucky to buy records while refusing to invest in a mattress. Sam glances at the pile of blankets shoved under Bucky’s couch and regrets it.

“Even thinking about you sleeping on this floor every night makes my back hurt.”

“I sleep on the couch sometimes.”

“Yeah?” Sam claps a hand on Bucky’s shoulder with a laugh. “That’s great, maybe we’ll be able to get you in a bed before the next century.”

“It’s a lot less important than you make it seem.”

“If you slept in a bed you’d see my side.” Sam squeezes Bucky’s shoulder and leans into him. “You know I’m just looking out for you.”

“I know,” Bucky says softly and Sam can tell he’s smiling.

“What’re you doing?” Sam leans over Bucky’s shoulder to get a look at the kitchen counter which is littered in tea bags of every color. It looks like Bucky just dumped them all out of the jar he stuffs them in. Why he can’t keep the different flavors in their individual boxes, Sam has no idea.

“Makin’ tea. What kind do you want?”

“Umm you pick. Something fruity.” Bucky grins. “Make sure it goes well with—”

“Honey. I know.” Bucky reaches to open the cupboard above him and pull out a honey bear for assurance. Sam gives his shoulders another squeeze before wandering over to a stack of records that hadn’t been here last time Sam came over.

Sam picks through the records on the top, wrinkling his nose at Dire Straits and Journey. He sets those aside so he can get to the box underneath and leaf through them properly.

“Buy anything good lately?”

“You ask me that as if I would buy bad music.” Sam snorts. “But yeah I found a couple European records. I guess it’s called ‘downtempo’. Café music. It’s nice.”

Sam hums doubtfully. He hears the electric kettle start and continues to look through Bucky’s music, gently pulling out one at a time to look at the covers. He doesn’t recognize a lot of these, which Sam immediately equates to Bucky’s inferior taste. God, he hopes Bucky didn’t pick up any of the stuff Zemo played on his jet.

Bucky sidles over and rests his vibranium hand gently on Sam’s hip. With the other he flicks to the back of the crate and quickly pulls out an album in black with white geometric line art on it. Sam quirks an eyebrow just to be difficult.

“If this is some weird indie shit—”

“Just let one side play out, Sam. Then pick something else if you hate it, but you won’t cause it’s good.”

As Bucky slips the record from it’s sleeve, Sam plops onto his couch. He stretches his arms and leans back, closing his eyes. This has become sort of a routine for them: Sam coming over and Bucky playing his music. It helps Sam unwind, relax, finally exhale the intensity he feels he’s always holding inside. Bucky’s one of the few people Sam can truly be at ease with. They give each other a lot of shit but it comes from a place of truly embracing one another for who they are. It’s never in question that they have each other’s backs.

Sam settles more comfortably into the couch. Whatever tea Bucky’s steeping smells lovely. Definitely fruity. Sam only half pays attention as the record spins through the first track but so far it isn’t bad. As the next track starts all smooth keyboard and mellow vibes, Sam might even dare say it’s relaxing. He opens one eye when Bucky presses a steaming mug into his hand.

“Happy Tangerine,” Bucky says with a wink. “With honey.”

Sam smiles and hums his approval, closing his eyes again. The record is unexpected. Somehow the music is both upbeat and very chill. A pleasant ambiance that inexplicably reminds him of tall evergreens against a pink sky. Sam brings the tea to his lips to blow on it.

“What’d you say this was?”

“Downtempo. Downbeat? I had to get the record shipped in from the UK. It was a whole deal.”

A laugh tickles the back of Sam’s throat. “Nerd.”

“You hate it?”

“No…” Sam considers. “It’s almost okay.”

“Mm, told you.” Bucky’s voice is low and soft. Sam can feel the heat of Bucky’s breath on his lips and his heart skips. Their faces must be so close. They’d barely have to lean in at all to close the distance.

Slowly, Sam opens his eyes. He blinks. Bucky’s face isn’t there. Sam tilts his head to look around the room but he knows what he’ll find. Bucky is sitting against the opposite wall right beside his record player, mirroring Sam with his head tilted back and eyes closed. Sam blinks again and slowly, silently, exhales. He looks at Bucky for a moment longer. His upturned face illuminated by sunlight filtering in through the window and catching the dimples of his small smile.

Sam drops his head back again. One day he’ll have to do something about this. The whole imagining what Bucky’s lips would feel like on his. The whole mistaking the steam of his tea for Bucky’s breath as if it would be just as sweet. But for now he lets their old routine play out.

4. Is there a popular pairing you don't necessarily dislike but aren't too invested in?

Not that I can think of. There are a lot I dislike and I won't invest any time in and go so far as to block the ship name and any variants so I don't have to see art or headcanons, etc, about it. So if it's not blocked and I see it and I think the art is cool I guess that means I don't dislike it? I often share it even if it's a ship I don't necessarily involve myself in. Like I don't write for SamBucky or SamTasha, or Stony (although I've apparently blocked Stony, tho I'm not sure when that happened lol), but if I see cool art I'll share it. But yeah....there's a lot I avoid by all means.

11. What's your favorite piece of fanart?

OMG HOW CAN YOU MAKE ME CHOOSE?! I literally have more than 600 pix of fanart for FrostIron -- some made specifically for me -- and 134 of WinterFrost. Anything by @batwynn and lightonlight I love. And you'll probably laugh but this is one of my favorites for FrostIron.

As for WinterFrost...I seem to have made a lot more edits for this ship than any other LOL. But millennium-h always did the BEST edits for WF, including making those pix of Hiddles kissing someone on the rocks MUCH BETTER (sadly, they left the fandom not too long ago). And like with FI, I have a lot of faves, but this is one I really enjoyed.

17. What's a book, movie, or show you think [Loki] would like?

I think it's obvious that Loki would be all over Shakespeare and any adaptation of his works. And he'd probably critique it better than Shakespearean scholars themselves. But I think that mischievous and love of chaos side of him would probably also be really into trash reality TV. Like the Real Housewives franchise. He'd have watch parties and hours-long discussions afterwards and everyone would be shocked by how accurate his psychoanalysis is. Because if there's anything people who are used to being overlooked and ignored can do it's read other people's emotions.

22. Give us a headcanon for [Tony Stark].

Aw man. I'm terrible at headcanons! I don't even know, man. Maybe that despite all his bravado (or overconfidence to cover for his insecurity) and need to prove himself to Howard, there's still enough of Maria in him that emerges in his tendency to take "lost" souls under his wing, not even to mentor but to give them a hand? Happy (loss of his boxing career, so he gave him a job), Peter, obvs, and even Steve, who he reluctantly helped bc y'know resentment. I say that's Maria bc considering how difficult Howard as a person was, who the fuck else could see anything redeeming enough to marry and have a child with him? She had to see something under the surface, yeah?

Idk. Told you I don't do headcanons. LOL

25. What's your least favorite thing [Bucky Barnes] said or did?

Killed Tony's parents??? IDK, there isn't much I dislike about Bucky, except that they didn't let him kiss Steve! I'm honestly just glad they never included that relationship from the comic in the movies bc I despise that actress and it would've bothered me to watch her shitty flirt-acting and whatever with Sebastian. It was bad enough with Fluffalo. Ick.

here’s a snippet from that past!samriley current!sambucky past-lives-inspired fic in the hey princess verse

He catches sight of Riley before Riley sees him, and he takes a moment to just stand back and watch as Riley looks around the atrium, mouth agape in wonder, his shock of fiery red hair a notable contrast to the shades of white making up the majority of the atrium’s decor. Sam feels a smile find its way to his lips unbidden, and his brain catches on a memory of sneaking up behind Riley once when they were teens at an art gallery they’d visited in NOLA. Riley’d worn an expression a hell of a lot like the one he’s wearing now, adorably awestruck, and he’d been too swept up in the piece he’d been looking at to notice Sam come up next to him. Sam had managed to draw imaginary lines connecting at least ten of the freckles covering Riley’s face before he’d batted his hands away, catching them in his own and making Sam’s heart skip a beat.

It feels like a whole lifetime ago.

It feels like it was just yesterday.

He doesn’t sneak up on him now, not with whatever they are. He just clears his throat from the entrance to the atrium and waits for Riley to look his way. “Hey, Riley,” he says a little timidly, unsure of exactly how formal he should be going for, and Riley turns his way.

“Sammy!” Riley near-shouts, beaming, and it feels wrong now, hearing someone call him “Sammy” that isn’t Bucky. He holds back his cringing, though, ever the diplomat these days, and lightly returns Riley’s hug when he wraps him in an enthusiastic embrace.

“It’s good to see you,” Sam says, hoping it’s neutral enough to neither make things awkward nor overly familiar. He spares a second to mentally note his hatred for having to treat an interaction with Riley of all people with his etiquette handbook lenses on, but he buries that thought before he can dwell on it too much. He’s sure it’ll come back when he’s trying to sleep later on, anyway.

Old Guard AU 👀

Thank you, Ferret!!! I had the idea for a Sambucky Old Guard AU almost a year ago now, had a fast and furious spurt of inspiration for it, and then had to set it aside to finish other commitments. I'm really hoping to get back to it this year, though, especially because I'm going to get to do a collab with the incomparable @yavannie, who is going to create some in-story art!

Here's a snippet below the cut (content warning for a canonical minor character death and a lot of profanity):

The first time Sam Wilson died, he had the theme song from The Golden Girls stuck in his head.

Riley had been singing it into his combat boot while they suited up for the last mission (everyone had their own ways of channeling the pre-flight adrenaline, and Riley’s sounded like two cats going at it in an alley). Sam had rolled his eyes and chucked a towel at him at the time, but then sure enough, the fucking tune had been playing on a loop in his mind all the way from Kandahar. 

He couldn’t say for sure whether that had anything to do with his lapse in attention as they flew over a low stone wall just east of Belal. Much later, his mind would play tricks on him, adding to his nightmares a blur of movement and a flash like moonlight reflecting off metal. Had he seen it at the time and failed to register what it meant? Could there have been a moment - a split-second when a different choice might have saved their lives? Sam turned the question over and over, but no answer could ever be as final as what had happened: in the instant when it mattered, he hadn’t done shit. He’d flown them both straight into the path of the RPG.

That was the first time: a jagged line of fire tearing through his tissue as the combined voices of his dead wingman and Cynthia Fee thanked him for being a friend. 

But even when Sam woke up hours later, thrashing at the canvas sheet covering his face and causing the unit’s medic to leap backward with a choked-off curse, it would still be a full day - twenty-four hours of medical tests and conversations with increasingly concerned military superiors - before the other half of the truth sunk in. That he was alive again meant he was going to die again.

And again and again, according to the man who was sitting in front of him now. 

The dude looked exhausted - and this wasn’t Sam’s first tour, so he knew from exhausted. He’d been cussed at and screamed over by some of the most worn-out motherfuckers in the U.S. Army, but the guy sitting in front of him - all 200 pounds of muscle, grizzled beard, and furrowed brow - looked tired on a level that strained Sam’s ability to render in language. Bone-tired, his mind tried, and then he had to suppress a shudder as the sensation of fire and metal ripped through his insides again.

“I’m just not tracking what you’re saying, man,” Sam said out loud, dropping the chain-of-command honorifics, because what the fuck. His best friend was in a body bag, and here he was, with a guard outside the door and not a scratch on his face, so he was pretty sure he couldn’t dig himself much deeper in shit than he already was. “You’re saying I actually died?”

“I know it’s a lot,” the man said. “And you’re in shock.”

Great fucking guess, Sam thought to himself. No shortage of goddamn expert medical opinions around here today. 

But even he wasn’t quite reckless enough to voice that observation where it could be used against him in a discharge hearing, so instead he asked,

“What did you say your name and rank were again?” And then, just belated enough to be pointed, “Sir?”

He expected a rebuke, or at least a scowl, but instead a small smile crept across the man’s face, sloughing off almost a decade of age as it grew.

The Sun/Moon and Day/Night aesthetic for Sambucky is amazing and I love when people go with this theme in their art, but also - please consider Winter/Spring. You could have Bucky beeing all gloomy, monochromatic, and covered in harsh frost standing next to Sam who’s decked in flowers with leaves peeking from his flowy sleeves while a bunch of birds (and Redwing) constantly flies around him.

Seems to fit them.

Here’s the thing, I LOVE reading sambucky AUs. I’ve made a list of some of my favorites, and since it’s promotion Monday, I thought I’d share it with y’all.

1. You Got What I Need by @six2vii – Lawyer!Sam & Chef!Bucky

Summary: Sam and Bucky are both in a bind, professionally. Nat points out a solution that neither men like. To save their careers they play along or rather, stop playing all together.

Note: This was such a lovely read. It has fake dating, with a bit of enemies to lovers. The buildup and slow burn is so well written. Also the writer has many +20k different aus with detailed worlds you might wanna give them a go.

2. To The Full Moon And Back by @glittercake – Werewolf!Sam & Human!Bucky

Summary: After serving his time in Special Ops, Bucky moves to a two-horse town, deep in the mountains. He buys an old log cabin in a large clearing surrounded by acres of tall, thick trees and dark woods- the only place for miles up there.

As he acquaints himself with the locals, he learns about the small town’s weird obsession with wolves and all the supernatural rumors, specifically around the area of his cabin.

Bucky thinks them all a little off-kilter until peculiar occurrences around his new home piques his interest enough to find out more.

And that’s when he learns that apparently werewolves are a very real thing.

Pity that Bucky doesn’t share the town’s caution when it comes to the woods and his cabin.

This ‘werewolf’ devoured his pizza and left the crust, how scary can he really be?

Note: An amazingly written fic all around. it has Sam with long hair, need I say more?

3. ghosts that we knew by wilsonsnest – Artist!Sam

Summary: Sam (reluctantly) agrees to do a commission for Steve's rich but extremely reclusive friend, James Barnes.

Sam just stared at the other man, the feeling of being watched suddenly overcoming him. God, what kind of weirdo didn’t even come to greet their guests? It was one thing to be a rich recluse, but another thing to just completely ignore people wandering around your house.

“Steve, this is really weird.” Sam stressed. “This isn’t weird to you?”

Note: This one is very dear to me, and I don’t find it recommended quite often. I read it twice in a row, and I can’t get enough of it. The atmosphere is chilling at times. And the writing and world building make you feel like you’re right there. Their communication throughout the early chapters is pure gold. It’s adds a hint of mystery to everything and makes you wanna finish the thing immediately (which I did). Also, if you love art, you’re gonna appreciate the great details used to describe the painting process.

4. The Boys of Summer by @siancore – Humans AU, with High School flashbacks

Summary: Sam Wilson returns home to the small town he grew up in to complete his med school residency. He hasn’t been back for an extended amount of time since he left for college. While he only consistently kept in touch with childhood friend, Steve Rogers, he was keen to see the people he had grown up with. With the exception of Bucky Barnes. They had a falling out the summer before Sam left for college.

What happened between them? Can they move past it now that they’re adults?

Note: boy, oh boy, how I love this one. The back and forth between the present and the past just pulls you right in. But, please check the tags very carefully. (It deals quite heavily with homophobia, racism, emotional manipulation from a parent.)

5. The Real Thing by Siancore – Student!Sam & SugarDaddy!Bucky

Summary: Birnin Zana is an exciting city. There’s a lot for a young man like Sam Wilson to do and see, but he is a broke American exchange student in Wakanda. He would love to see the rest of the country and continent, but for that, he needs an additional income. His scholarship covers the basics of his study, but when he isn’t studying, he takes on odd jobs for extra cash; Sam is saving up, you see. His most recent job is the reason why he is standing inside of the art museum nursing a glass of champagne and feeling completely out of place.

Note: Even though it’s missing a chapter (according the chapter count) you’ll be quite happy with where things left off. I just adore it.

6. Deception by Siancore – Crime AU

Summary: That’s when he saw him, standing by the fucking ice sculpture: The most beautiful man he had ever laid eyes on.

Note: Am I gonna recommend everything written by Sian? Yes, yes I am. You might wanna go and check her entire catalog, like right now. This story is full of twists right and left. It sucks you right in. It has angst, it has jealousy, it has everything you need. Go read it.

7. Lighthouse by glittercake – Hospital AU

Summary: This guy’s trouble. Bucky knows that in his bones. It’s not bad trouble, is the problem, it’s good. Sam is so goddamn inherently good and if Bucky even touches that with a ten foot pole—fuck if he even looks at it—it’ll turn to shit.

He can’t afford another move to yet another city because his colleagues started recognizing Brock’s fist prints on his face.

But Sam is a ridiculously bright glowing light, a beacon, and Bucky goes toward it like that idiotic moth to the flame.

Note: EVERYONE MOVE OUT THE WAY. This fic will always have a special place in my heart. I just recently re-read it, and all the emotions were right there, again. There are a few scenes that I revisit every now and then just to feel something. It’s a masterpiece all around. I’ll never tire of recommending it. But please check the tags and the notes very very carefully. (It deals with domestic abuse, NOT BETWEEN SAMBUCKY‼. And it gets quite graphic.)

Also, you might wanna do yourself the favor of reading everything ever written by glittercake. Go ahead, I’m gonna wait.

8. Stolen Moments by @jemgirl86

Summary: “No,” Sam said, chuckling. “I don’t cheat,” he swept his gaze up and down James’ body, “even with guys who look like you. But, I’m bored and a little pissed, so if you wanna sit here and shoot the shit ‘til my man shows back up, I’m game.”

Never one to back down from a challenge - especially a challenge who looked like Sam Wilson - Bucky took another swig from his bottle and replied, “Sure, doll. I’ve got nothing but time.”

Steve has Sam. Bucky wants Sam. Sam wasn’t expecting any of this.

Note: I love this one with all of my heart. Usually love triangles aren’t my thing, but this one is executed beautifully, there isn’t a dull moment in sight. They're messy, and you love to see it.

A TW is in place for gaslighting. The relationship between Sam and Steve isn’t good at all.

9. Exactly What You're Looking For by snarkymuch – Soulmate AU

Summary: When you lose something, it might appear beside your soulmate in the morning.

Sam never found anything from his soulmate until after Bucky Barnes dragged Steve from the Potomac.

Bucky grew up never finding a thing either, but after he finally gets free from Hydra, he starts finding things beside him the morning.

This is the story of them coming together.

Note: this one is pure joy. It’s not precisely au (quite canon compliant actually) but I had to put it here. It’s hilarious at times, and fluffy at others. And the alternate ending is just a delight.

10. i wanna savour, save it for later by caramelle – Food truck AU (is that a thing? Should be a thing)

Summary: "It's his damn ratings, man," Sam says. "It's weird 'cause when you read the reviews, he seems to like our food and all. Nothing but praise for days. And then you get to the rating, and it's always the same. Three goddamn stars."

Bucky tips his beer bottle from side to side, lips pursing slightly. "I see. And that's… a bad thing?"

"We are not a three-star joint," Sam says flatly.

Or, the one where food truck owner Sam gets caught up in his quest to unmask an anonymous food blogger. Falling for one of his regulars was never on the menu.

Note: fun fact: I read this one mere minutes before an exam and finished it right after said exam. I remember nothing from that day except for this lovely fic. It’s just sweet, ok? And I love food, so there’s that.

11. Good Enough by junipermoss – Paramedic!Sam & DogWalker!Bucky

Summary: Bucky Barnes is an anxious dog walker who takes his job very seriously. Sam Wilson is a paramedic who takes his job seriously-ish. When Sam responds to an emergency call, their paths cross.

Summary: Is that what you get?” The man asked, his gaze dropping to Sam. Sam was suddenly tongue tied. The man had the most intense eyes that Sam had ever seen, it felt like he was staring at Sam’s soul but in a...good way? Sam wasn’t sure.

“No- no.” Sam shook his head. “I get cold press coffee with hazelnut.”

Sam had a feeling that the customer didn’t know what cold press was but he nodded. “I’ll take that. Large.”

Sam punched the order into the ancient computer. “Great. Anything else?” He gestured to the bakery case, the customer’s eyes following.

“How are the apple fritters?”

“Honestly pretty terrible.” Sam said, smiling slightly. “But the chocolate muffins are amazing.”

The man smiled at Sam and his heart skipped a beat. “I’ll take one of those then.”

“Good choice. What’s your name for the order?”

“Um- put Bucky I guess.”

Note: one of the very earliest AUs I’ve ever read, and it’s so so sweat.

84: trying to deny your feelings, but attraction gets the best of you, and you push them up against the wall

"What the fuck?" Kagami shouted, the moment his back collided with the wall leaving him for few second breathless.

"Shut up Kagami, just shut up!" Aomine roared, digging his nail in Kagami shoulder just touching the red head nose with his.

"No!" Kagami hissed, trying to flip the position, but not being able to do anything.

"You are driving me insane, why the hell you can't be like any other idiot I find in my way, why you need to be..." Aomine stopped, closed his eyes and finally closed the distance, crushing their mouth together shutting down all possible words from Kagami, and finally giving in, letting that fire finally burn free and consume him from inside out. Letting Kagami devour him and finally stop all the voice in his head.

Silence.

Aomine moved a little just to make some distance between them, just to see better the red lips in front of his eyes puff out warm and stinky breath, making his nose wrinkle.

“Are you ok?” Kagami murmured unsure after few second of silence, making Aomine double up with laughter and cover his face on Kagami chest. “What the hell did I said to make you laugh like that…?” Kagami asked now confused, but letting his arms just move oh their own and wrap around Aomine.

“Right…” Aomine said in a hoarse voice, wiping away tears that spilled out of his eyes “That’s why I love you Bakagami.” Aomine ended up raising his head and giving a light kiss on Kagami parted mouth, before moving away and back to the court, leaving back a stunned and flushed out Kagami, still processing what just happened.

“Are you coming or not to play?” Aomine asked after few steps, turning a little with a cheeky grin on his face, making Kagami finally snap back to reality.

“What was that?” Kagami whispered touching lightly his lips, before shouting “TELL ME THAT AGAIN!” and reaching to take the basketball from Aomine hand, and failing.

At that Aomine started to laugh again, and moved on a side.

“Take this from my hand, and I’m gonna tell you the three words again, and again…”

With that Kagami just smiled and launched himself toward the ball, again and again, and again, just to hear the magical three words another time.

Just another time, and maybe more in the future.

in ep3, Zemo being Zemo, he talks about Bucky's notebook and points out the list, Sam looks curious but seeing how uncomfortable Bucky was, he tries to change the subject to music and Steve and he never mentions it, on screen, again.

then Sarah calls Sam in the iconic undercover mission scene. Bucky looks as confused as everyone else in the room, it doesn't seem to click for him who Sarah is, or the bank issue or Cass. he looks as lost as Zemo and Selby were.

but in ep 4 and 5 we see both of them mention these things like they have full knowledge of them.

in ep4 when Sarah calls Sam to inform him Karli have called to threaten her and the kids, Bucky asks what's happening and Sam says "Karli called Sarah" he doesn't say my sister, because Sarah is on Bucky's map now and he knows who she exactly is.

you want to tell me Sam "I've found the exact building flag smashes are operating in within a day" Wilson, spent two years with no success in finding Bucky "I'm going to wear a baseball cap as a cover up and wish for the best" Barnes?

nah, this man has found Bucky at least 33 times during these two years, but decided to respect Bucky's wish to hide until he is more ready before facing Steve and society as all. and that is exactly how they grew closer and became a thing, until Sam heard the news about the UN and was confused because he knows it isn't possible, then he gets upset because Bucky failed to mention that he knew about the other super soldiers in Russia and wasn't absolutely honest with him and HE FORGOT WHO HE IS after Zemo triggered him with the codes.

this explains why winter soldier never really tried to kill Sam, and rather just put him out of the way, whereas he did his best trying to kill everyone else, including poor Steve.

and why Sam would be angry with him and not move his seat up (although Sam is known to be mature enough to understand that whatever Bucky did was the winter soldier and not him and it sounds farfetched that Sam would actually hold grudges)

I'm dead, I think she didn't realise the majority of her followers probably turned sambuckies over the course of tfatws just like I did 😂 Yes I'm trying to recruit her but don't tell her that it will blow my cover.
