Iron and Cham and Anne being classmates in one of their classes back in banyan and Maybe constantly ended up as the trio in projects and shit to the point that iron and chams arguments and banters are familiar in a daily habitual thing where Anne just watches them argue but can make them both sit their asses down when she has to and they all groan and complain about college and their classes together (mostly entirely done by Cham being dramatic) and then they all graduated (and got worse fjslshf) and then all of them seeing each other again in mbcc like the spider man pointing at each other meme and their college habits with each other just kinda come back and it's a nice familiarity that breaks up their honestly kinda crazy situations and lives currently

Listening to Verdi's Requiem for the first time in years... really takes me back! Years ago we were singing this in my choir and I was tasked with writing a little text about it for your performance booklet.

Researching other performance booklets I found online, most of them told the same story of how iirc it was originally written for one funeral but not performed there and then later polished up for another funeral... all interesting historical background but not really anything that enhances your listening experience. And I wanted to write something that did that.

I found a version on spotify I liked and listened to every single part individually while reading about what it represents. I wrote a short analysis that explained what the different parts represent and how this is musically illustrated. I ended up with a litte text I was really proud of that I thought was a very good introduction if you knew nothing about the Requiem and would add just a little bit of info to enhance the experience without overwhelming or boring you.

What I couldn't write was how much Verdi's Requiem feels like edging

Soooooooo many parts where something is built up then snatched away again then built up and built up and built up until it EXPLODES into glorious fortissimo! Verdi's Requiem feels like sex!

But I couldn't put that in the booklet so I'm telling y'all now. Listen to Verdi's Requiem it's like having sex

You see, my musical theory is this: music has 3 attributes: tunes (as in instruments, singing, rhytm, depending on the genre), lyrics, and danceability or groovy or whatever you call it.

A good song needs to have good tunes, and depending on the genre, might stand alone with that. A song with good danceability can stand on its own despite the lyrics and even tunes sucking, but it will never be more than that. A great song has good tunes and good lyrics, or good tunes and good danceability.

A song, however, and this is crucial, CANNOT stand on lyrics alone. You can have great lyrics, but if you don't sing well, don't have good tunes (instrumental) and thus, evidently, not even danceability, you're just doing poetry, it might be good or not, but it's just poetry, not music.

There are very few songs that achieve the trifecta, and often at the expense of something else. If you suck at all three, you're Wos.
