I used to hate reading wips until pretty recently, and i definitely missed out. I feel so much joy when i get an email alerting me to an update! And if i have the time i read it immediately. And then i read comments on here and under the chapter. I just love all the interactions. It’s like when a new episode comes out from one of my favourite shows. Also i used to ignore how shitty that must be for you authors. It must be incredibly discouraging if barely anyone reads your work while it‘s not fully finished. I completely understand why some people abandon their fics!

i agree with this. when i first entered the hp fandom, i quickly became jaded because of abandoned works, but as i really started to just let myself read whatever was interesting to me, i discovered that reading a wip makes me feel like im part of a community rather than just a consumer.

getting to experience new chapters with the author and the other readers is such a quintessential fandom experience and it makes me sad that so many people miss out on that because they refuse to read wips.
