Jensen arrived on set for the filming of a new charity event in Austin. The who’s who of bakers were going to be teaming up with one another in a competition where the charity of their choice would receive ten thousand dollars. Their partners would be decided by blind draw and would have one week to bake a new cupcake creation. Walking in, he waved to the other participants, including his good buddy Jason Manns.

“Jay! How the hell are you? It’s been forever since we’ve hung out.”

He hugged his friend, “I know. Your bakery food truck is traveling everywhere nowadays. I’m surprised you were able to come here and participate. At least now I know who I need to get as my partner.”

The door opened as all eyes landed on the last baker of the competition and Jensen groaned.

“Seriously?”

Jason chuckled, “You know, she’s not a bad person once you get to know her and her cheesecakes are to die for.”

Jensen rolled his eyes as (Y/N) walked past him without a word or glance. She waved to Jason continuing towards another group of bakers.

“Oh yeah, she’s a real peach.”

The rival between Jensen and (Y/N) was famous in Austin. Their bakeries were across the street from one another. At first, it had been as simple as supply and demand. His business was there first and he wanted her to move further down 6th street. Even suggesting the building next to his best friend’s bar. In return, she held the biggest grand opening event in history and shut down all of 6th street. From that moment on, Jensen and (Y/N) did not get along.

The show runner came out to discuss how the blind draw would take place and filming schedule for each set of partners. He was thankful to know that the blind draw would not be filmed and their partners would be announced to the world when they filmed their episode.

There would be six pairs of bakers and they were down to the last four to be paired up. Jensen and Jason were still holding out hope to work together. Jensen was already planning to mix Jason’s signature smoky whiskey truffle sauce with one of his famous salted caramel and peanut butter cupcakes.

“Our next pairing will be Jensen Ackles from Batter Splatter and…”

Jensen crossed his fingers praying to the baking gods that Jason’s name was announced.

“(Y/N) (Y/L/N) from CheesyCakes!”

“What the…”

“Son of a…”

Jensen and (Y/N) both said slowly turning to look at one another. He should have known the universe would not cooperate with him.

“Bakers, you will meet with your partners and our producer will be around to let you know when they will be at your shops to film.”

(Y/N) walked over to him, “Let’s get this over with.”

He rolled his eyes hearing Jason wishing him luck as he followed her towards a table to sit at. If Jensen was being perfectly honest, (Y/N) was definitely easy on the eyes and knew her stuff. It was her attitude that made her insufferable.

“Look, either of us want to work with the other.” She started with.

“Agreed.”

She rolled her eyes, “Then this is how it will go. You bake your famous cupcake and I’ll make my famous cheesecake cupcake. Wham-bam, display and good to go.”

“That won’t win the competition. You do want to win, right?” He asked, arching his eyebrow at her.

He took note of the shaky breath she took in looking up at him. She bit the corner of her lip and suddenly he found himself curious to know what was running through her mind.

“Of course I want to win. My charity is important to me.”

“As is mine. We need to push aside this stupid, petty, rivalry and work together.”

The producer came at that moment discussing they would be filming four days, two each at their bakeries. They had one week to come up with the recipe and design they wanted to use to represent their charities.

“Oh wow, well at least you have it easier than the other bakeries. You both have the same charity of Out Youth Austin. Great choice. The day before filming I will come out to meet with you both and go over the exact schedule. Good luck.”

(Y/N) stared at him, “Out Youth?”

“Yes. I have a lot of the kiddos use my bakery as a meeting spot for when their schools will not allow them to meet. I make sure they all know they have an open invitation to a safe and welcoming spot.”

For the first time since meeting her, (Y/N) wore a genuine smile on her face. Jensen had not been prepared for how that smile would make his heart skip and jump within his chest. Or how he would do anything to see it again.

“That’s amazing.” She cleared her throat, “So, let’s meet up tomorrow if you have time to come up with a game plan.”

He nodded, “Sounds good. How about the little coffee shop on 6th, my treat.”

“It’s a date.” Her eyes snapped to him, “I mean, it’s a meeting… uh yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

He chuckled watching her walk away quickly.

The week leading up to them filming, Jensen met with (Y/N) before their stores opened, after they closed and any time either of them had a brilliant idea pop into their heads. It was the night before their meeting and they were making a test batch of their cupcakes.

“Be careful, cheesecake batter is sensitive. We have to be precise.” (Y/N) warned him for the millionth time.

“I know. Believe it or not, I went to school for this and have made cheesecake before and successfully. Trust me.”

She scoffed, “Maybe I should do this.”

When (Y/N) tried to push him out of the way, Jensen grabbed a hold of her shoulders and gently forced her back to her spot. For a moment they were mere inches from one another and then tension pressing between them had a quiet gasp escaping from her lips. The effect it had on him was one that he had been battling all week working with her.  

“If you have to let me do something. You can’t do it all.”

“O-Okay…” She ran her hands down her thighs clasping her hands over her knees.

Now it was his turn to let out a shaky breath as he poured the batter into the cupcake pan and slid it into the oven. He left it up to her to decide when they would be ready to pull out. Nearly three hours later, their final product was plated and they were digging into one of the cupcakes.

“Hot damn!”

“Oh my god…” They both started laughing.

Suddenly (Y/N) hugged him, “We did it! We really did it!”

He looked down into her beautiful eyes and wide grin on her face. Next thing he knew, his lips were pressed against hers, tasting hints of caramel and cheesecake from their creation.

“Shit, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have…” He backed away from her.

“Jensen, don’t…”

He turned around in time for her to press herself against him, bringing his lips to hers. He lifted her up onto the counter sliding the remaining cupcakes on the floor with a loud crash. Not long after, their clothes joined the mess ending their rivalry once and for all.

Ok so for those who haven't seen my stuff (or have only seen my Bionicle posts), I sometimes emoji mashup redraws, with the recent fourth one using GBoard-based fusions. Frustratingly, there's no actual list of fusion-compatible emojis, so I'll attempt to compile them, in a list below the "Read More" thing:

Lube Headcanon’s for each of the sides (because no one asked, and i generously supply anyway - and yes these are real lube flavors. google em)

Logan: normal or vanilla, usually, mostly because he’s lame, but occasionally he’s spice it up with something like peppermint 

Roman: red velvet or chocolate covered cherry. he’s dramatic, and believes his lube should reflect the delicious way he himself tastes, although often he ends up being the one forced to taste it

Janus: specifically salted covered caramel, just because it has that sort of upper-class appeal, mixed with a bit of salt and smugness. also its one of my favourites.

Patton: birthday cake/cupcake, because they’re sweet and fun and remind you of kid’s parties, which most dads attend. also cake sucks (/j /j)

Vapor (Part 3)

Hey guys! Thanks for all the wonderful feedback! I’m glad people seem to be enjoying it! I actually really like the story line I decided to follow. It’s a bit darker, and more emotional in a different way. I’ve been wanting to branch out and make something that I’m really proud of and I think this could be it.

I stayed out there the rest of the night. I couldn’t sleep in the slightest. I couldn’t get the thoughts out of my head. I wanted to see JJ. I wanted to know if he remembered that day the way I did. I got ready for the day and skipped down the steps, into the kitchen. I grabbed a bowl and some cereal, making myself the laziest breakfast I could possibly have. I took a seat at the table and heard my dad on the phone. He was on a business call but came over to me when he saw me. He kissed me forehead and smiled as if telling me to have a good day.

My dad and I have always been close. Ever since I was little, I felt like it was me and him. I couldn’t have asked for better parents. I finished up my cereal and put my bowl in the sink before heading out. I stopped at my mom’s bakery and walked inside. Everything looked delicious. I breathed in the sweet scent of frosting and reached down to grab a cupcake. Not just any cupcake though, a salted caramel cupcake. My mom grabbed my hand before I could get to it and told me it was too early for sweets. I sighed, knowing she was probably right.

“Hey mom,” I said. “Can I take some muffins? I’m visiting an old friend and don’t want to come up empty handed.”

“Who are you seeing?” she asked, opening a decorative box. I didn’t want to tell her, but I could come up with an excuse not too.

“JJ Maybank,” I said. She set the empty box down on the table. She knew how much he had hurt me when he decided not to be friends anymore. She knew what path he had taken.

“Honey,” she said. She was giving me the look. Every mom had a certain look that she’s branded. Whether it was a look of disappointment or shame, every mom had one. I bit my lip and shrugged my shoulders. “What’s this about, A?”

“I’ve started having dreams again,” I said. Her face dropped. She knew exactly what I meant by that. She began to pack up muffins, packing more in than she normally would do. She told me that I should consider telling one of my friends what had happened to me as a kid. She told me I should tell Topper. She knew how important Top had gotten to me in the past few months, but there was no way I could bring myself to tell him. JJ was the only one who knew. I couldn’t bring myself to tell anyone else. I can’t bring myself to talk about it to others because then it becomes real. Too real. “I’m okay mom. I just want to talk to him.” “Be safe,” she said, handing me the muffins. I smiled and thanked her. I told her I would see her at home for dinner. I walked out the door and drove over to the Maybank household. I didn’t see JJ’s bike which worried me, but I still went up and knocked on the door. I held the muffins in my hand as Luke answered the door. He looked in rough shape and smelled like whiskey.

“Addie?” he asked. I gave him a big smile and said hello. I asked if JJ was here and he said no. I frowned and asked if he knew where he was. “He hasn’t been home in a while. He’s probably staying at a friends house.” I knew exactly what that meant. I would have to head to John B’s. This was a lot of mental preparation, aka a nice high. I hotboxed in my car before driving all the way to the chateau. Seeing the Pogues made me anxious like nothing else. I walked up and tried to control the constant shake my hands had whenever I stressed out. I walked up and saw Pope and Kie chilling next to the house while JJ and John B gathered in the yard. They looked like they were talking about something pretty serious, but I was too far away to catch what it was.

“What brings you here?” Kie asked with a smile.

“You’ve stayed away for too long, A,” Pope added. At the mention of my name, JJ’s head flung around. His eyes met mine and there was no turning back now.

“Got a minute?” I asked, never breaking eye contact. He nodded and shoved John B towards the marsh. I walked over and put the box of muffins on the table almost as a peace offering and waited for JJ to make his way over. He grabbed out a chocolate chip muffin and it was in his mouth before I could even say a word. “Jesus, JJ! There’s like 12 muffins in there. Slow down before you choke!”

He coughed a little bit from all the dryness of him putting the whole muffin in his mouth. I rolled my eyes and held out my hands like I used to do when he would eat baked goods too quickly at our house. He spit some in my hands and I dramatically gagged.

“You guys seem on better terms,” Kie said, questioning me with her eyes. I had spent the past two years complaining about JJ, and somehow now we were behaving exactly like we used too. How is that possible? I threw the muffin bits on the ground and wiped my hands on his shirt.

“C’mon, there’s something I gotta ask you about,” I said. We walked down the yard and sat on the dock. I sat there and looked at him for a second. He’s changed a lot in the past two years. He’s gained muscle mass and he’s gotten really tall. I observed him for a second before opening my mouth. “Do you remember when we were little?”

I asked a vague question because I knew I didn’t really want to talk about it. It’s been two years since I spoke of it last. Maybe that’s why it’s bothering me now. I can finally make sense of it all, but I can’t express it. I’ve bottled it all up.

“You mean that day?” he asked. “Of course I remember it. It was the worst day of my life.” “What?” I asked. We had to be talking about different days. Maybe he was talking about the day his mom left or the day his dad started beating him. There were so many horrible days that my day couldn’t be the worst one of his life as well.

“You could’ve died,” he said. He wasn’t looking at me. He was staring out across the water as he thought about the events of that day. “You and your mom were always so accepting of me. I thought of you as family. Then I took my eyes off of you for two minutes. Two minutes was all. Then, you were gone, all because I wanted to play on the playground. Maybe if I had gone with you, I could’ve fought off that guy long enough for you to get help.” “We were eight, JJ,” I said, pulling out my vape and taking a hit. “There was no way you were going to fight that guy off.”

“It would’ve been harder to take two kids,” he said, looking miserable. I never knew he blamed himself. I never knew that he felt so strongly about this. “You didn’t hear the night terrors you had after that.”

He was right. I didn’t witness myself screaming throughout the night. I didn’t listen to the cries and the gasps for air, but he did. He was always first in the room to give me a hug. He helped me get through it. I was lucky that he was staying with us during that time. His mom had left and then I also left too. I watched as he took off his hat, ran his fingers through his hair, and put it back on.

“I’m sorry,” I said. His head turned to look at me for the first time since we started the conversation. He asked me what for and I let out a big sigh. I stood up, getting ready to take my leave. “For leaving you here alone. For becoming a Kook. For letting you down.”

I turned to walk back up to the house, but he caught my arm and pulled me into a hug. Shock took over my body as I inhaled the familiar scent of weed and mint. My arms slipped around him like it was the most natural gesture in the word and my heart began to swell.

“You can’t just say that and walk away. It’s isn’t fair,” he mumbled. “I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have bailed on you.”

Hearing him say that broke my heart. I pressed the side of my head against his chest and listened to the steady beat of his heat. I used to do this as a kid and it always eased my nerves. I always found it calming. I felt his hand run through my hair as we hugged for a little too long. The truth was that we both missed each other, but I wouldn’t allow myself to love him again. We weren’t the right fit for each other as time has told us.

“So does this mean we can be friends again?” I asked, moving away from him. He stared down at me and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.

“Sure, A,” he said.

Just like that, we were sort of friends again.

Chapter 6 sneak peek: And there’s somethin’ ‘bout a kiss, that’s gonna lead to more.

Fun fact: This is only like half of the chapter. There’s like... Smut a comin’. 

The weeks that followed Whiskey and Brandy under quarantine in Italy, found them in a domesticated routine. They’d share meals together, he would cook and she did the dishes. They would stream movies or shows, would take turns reading books out loud to each other. Although, Brandy preferred hearing Whiskey read to her. She even managed to convince him to read Pride and Prejudice once which she loved hearing. 

They both found themselves ignoring what was building up between them. The undeniable connection they had, which only made moments between them become even more and more heated. 

About a week after their dance, Brandy woke up in the middle of the night. Unable to stop thinking about him. “Fuck,” she mumbled to herself and reached for her water bottle but found it empty. Muttering, she rolled out of bed, hair a mess and her pink tank top and tiny shorts askew… She quietly padded out of her bedroom to fill her water in the bathroom. 

She was about to open the door when it opened on it’s own. Golden light, revealing Whiskey’s messy hair and an amused, soft grin on his face. “Did I wake you sweetheart?” He asked her as he leaned against the doorframe. 

Yes. “No.” She answered. Well, not in the way he thinks. She thought to herself. “Woke up thirsty.” She held up her water bottle to show him. She took in the way he looked. Goddammit, he looks good. Boxers and a white t-shirt and she was a mess thinking about him all over again. 

“Mmmmmm. I see. Gotta stay hydrated.” He nodded at her, eyes flicking to see her pink tank top with hearts on it and tiny, matching shorts that left little to the imagination. Fuck. How’d she expect him to go back to sleep now that he knew she was wearing that in the next room? This woman was going to be the death of him. And he would let her kill him like that, if he got to see her like this often. 

She flushed under his gaze. His brown eyes staring at her so openly and her pajamas weren’t really helping matters either. “Yeah… Something like that.” She told him softly as they stared at each other for several long moments. The silence stretching between them for far too long to be anything other than longing. 

Whiskey leaned forward and towards her. “Goodnight sweetheart.” He whispered in her ear, his voice deep and rumbling. 

“Goodnight Jack.” She told him softly as she slipped into the bathroom to fill her water and collect herself.

Three weeks into their quarantine in Rome and Brandy woke up depressed. Today was her birthday, she was on lockdown in Rome and she couldn’t go out and enjoy it. “Ugh.” She moaned and rolled over onto her pillow. 

“Knock knock.” Came the ever familiar voice of Whiskey through her door. “Hope you’re decent.” He teased as he poked his head in the door and strode in carrying a tray. 

Brandy’s eyes widened and she sat up. “Wh-What’s this?” She asked him.

“Happy Birthday.” He told her with a smile as he set the tray down on her legs. The tray had creme and strawberry filled crepes, covered with a dusting of powdered sugar. A caramel macchiato that he thought was too sweet, but knew she loved them...  and a vase with a flower in it. 

“You…. Remembered?” She asked him softly. Blushing as she stared at the tray, before meeting his gaze. 

“I remember everything about you, sweetheart.” He told her plainly before his lips twitched into a smile. “This here, is just step one of your birthday today. Once you’re done with that, I’m gonna get a bath goin’ for you to relax in. I found some bubbles and salts.” He teased her. Then tonight, I’m taking you out on a date… Here at home, so dress up.” He winked at her. 

Brandy couldn’t believe that he was doing all this for her. God, she wanted to kiss the hell out of him. Instead, she settled for biting and licking her bottom lip at the smell of her breakfast. “Thanks Jack.” She told him with a smile before halting. “I… I don’t have anything really nice for tonight. Didn’t know I would need to pack a ballgown.” She teased him. 

“Oh but don’t you though?’ He asked her with a smirk. “Let me know after your bath if you still need somethin’ to wear for tonight.” He leaned forward and kissed her temple. Lingering for a few moments before pulling away. 

After he left, she ate her breakfast rather quickly because it looked so damn good. She poked her head into the bathroom and took it all in. He had a hot bath for her, bubbles and bath salts filling the air. Even lit a couple of candles that had been sitting under the sink to give her a relaxing mood. She put on some calming music, stripped and sank into the tub with a sigh. “Goddammit Jack.” She murmured to herself. He really did know how to show a girl he cared for her. And it was making her even weaker for him. 

After a few moments, her eyes caught sight of a pale blue chiffon dress hanging from the bathroom door. She knew that dress. That was her dress. But she never wore it except to a friend's wedding she had attended recently. And she had left it back home in Kentucky. “How in the hell…” 

Her thoughts were interrupted by her phone going off. Of course. She grumbled and answered the phone. Knowing already, who it was. “You have shit timing you know.” She told Tequila.

“Why? You riding a certain cowboy for your birthday?” He asked, and she could picture a smirk on his smug ass face as he said it. 

“What in the hell is wrong with you? And no. I’m taking a bath... Alone.” She told him before he asked her if Whiskey was with her. 

“Did you get your present?” He asked her with a chuckle. 

“I uh… I don’t know. Depends on what you sent.” She told him with a shrug as she sank as far into the tub as she could without getting her phone wet. 

“It’s blue and I had to go through your entire damn closet to find it.” He teased her. 

“What? You sent that here?” She asked him as her eyes snapped back to the blue dress.

“Yup. Whiskey asked me to send one of your dresses and some shoes over. Although, Ginger picked the shoes because I have no idea what matches.” 

She rolled her eyes at him. Of course he didn’t. “Shocking. You have bad taste in clothes and women.” She teased him with a smirk. 

“Watch it. You’re talking to a guy who helped you out for your dream date with the man you’re hopelessly in love with.” He shot back, she could hear the smug grin on his damn face.

“What? I am not!” She protested, the words coming out bitter as soon as she said it. 

“Charlie… I’ve known you almost your entire life. You think I don’t know when you’re in love with someone?” He asked her affectionately. “And for the record… He’s in love with you too.” 

Brandy didn’t respond to him. She knew he was right and she hated it. “Thanks for the dress Beau.” She told him. 

“You know…. There ain’t nothin’ wrong for lettin’ yourself love people again.” He told her gently, pausing. “Happy Birthday. I’ll talk to you later.” He told her before they hung up. 

Brandy hung up and thought about Tequila’s words. She was definitely in love with Jack. That much was clear to herself. But he was right, she was scared. Terrified that if she told him she loved him. He’d either leave her eventually or he’d die. And she didn’t know which was worse. But it was getting to the point where it was difficult to ignore her feelings for him any longer. 

Whiskey spent most of the day prepping for dinner with Brandy. He cleaned the living and dining room area and cleaned the kitchen. He then got all the ingredients out for the dinner and her birthday cupcakes and began to start everything. He started with strawberry shortcake cupcakes. So they could cool while he did everything else. Brandy was reading on the porch for the afternoon. He asked her to stay out of the kitchen so she wouldn’t spoil the surprise for herself. 

After an afternoon of Brandy reading on the porch and Whiskey cooking in the kitchen, she popped her head inside. “I’m coming in.” She told him with a shy smile. “I… I need to get ready for dinner.” She said as she bit her bottom lip, blushing as she said that. 

Whiskey glanced up at the clock and then back at her. “Well come on in then.” He teased her. “Can’t have you bein’ late, now can I?” He winked at her as she slipped back inside, kindle in hand and she disappeared into her bedroom. 

Now that she was in her bedroom, Whiskey took the opportunity to take a quick shower, he put on some cologne and went to get dressed. He had brought a suit with him for the mission in case he’d needed it. But now, the sharp, plaid suit had a new purpose tonight. Paired with a dark orange turtleneck and his classic hat and cowboy boots.

He went back out to the kitchen and dining room area to set the table and finish setting up. He even lit a couple of candles because he knew she would look incredible in the candlelight and wasn’t going to fuck that opportunity up. 

Brandy meanwhile, was in her room. She pulled on her dress, thankful that the zipper was low enough on the back to where she could reach without assistance. She didn’t want Whiskey to see her until she was ready. This was a date, with Jack. And she was determined to enjoy it. She sat down at the foot of her bed and tied off her heels that Ginger sent with the dress. They were black and strappy, studs at the toes and a satin ribbon at the ankles to tie them off with. Her hair fell in waves down her shoulders and her makeup was soft but still accentuated her features. She glanced down at the wedding ring she still wore, even though they were alone. She liked the feel of it on her hand. 

Whiskey was nervous. Brandy was the first woman he was really in love with since… Her. That’s not to say he didn’t bed the occasional woman here and there. He was a man with urges after all. But none of them really held his affections or attentions. And then Brandy came into his life and without even trying, made him fall in love with her. Now that he knew about her past with her family, her being so closed off to people getting close to her made sense. He was the same way, but Brandy…. Jesus hers was worse than his pain in his opinion. 

He was pulled out of his thoughts to the bedroom door opening. And there she was, stepping out of her room so delicately, so shyly. So unlike her, but in the best possible way. She looked fucking incredible. From those ‘fuck me’ heels, to the dress that begged for him to love her and her hair calling out for him to run his fingers through. “Ho-ly shit, sweetheart.” He drawled out to her. “You look… Fuck, you look...” 

Brandy blushed at him. “Thank you.” She whispered back as Whiskey strode over to her until he was directly in front of her. “I-... You don’t look so bad yourself cowboy.” She returned and took in how he looked. He had dressed up for her, that made her fall even more for him. “Dinner smells amazing.” 

He smiled at her, reaching to tuck her hair behind her ear. “I aim to please.” He held his arm out to her and led her over to the candlelit table where two plates were sitting. “Had to celebrate my favorite person’s birthday.” He rumbled into her ear before helping her into her seat.
