So I might’ve actually lectured my lecturer. He’s an archivist, but not a historian (in the broadest version of the word).
Previously mentioned: Roman archives, didn’t really survive because of wax tablets and papyri decaying but we know they wrote and archived. Sure.
After the disappearance of the Western Roman Empire (he was very safe with his word choices here), archiving or writing large amounts of texts wasn’t really a thing, until the Arabs came by the 12th century and Europe was archiving again.
HOLD THE FFING PHONE RIGHT THERE! And I did ask why he was reasoning this way. He didn’t really got me immediately so I provided him with examples.
Roman law didn’t disappear, it was held up and added upon. (Fine = income!) we know this because A) we have catholic additions on it making pagan elements in society illegal, B) we have written versions of the Lex Salica as old as the 8th century, C) Carolingian Minuskel is a thing, learned how to read it at previous Uni.
They just continued copying/translating Greek to Latin to f.e. Diets.
Laws are only useful when you have an institute that has them, can check on them and execute them. All those laws are stored somewhere (= archived).
Handy for cloisters to know how many properties they have and what they provide in income and how much they cost.
Roman law became regional, the Goths, Salic Franks, Anglians all had written law. The Catholic Church even invited Irish monks over to baptize Europeans and they introduced the space in written language in the process to make it easier for them. Writing… archiving…
The Catholic Church was very keen on making martyrs immediate saints. Their stories were recorded (!) into hagiographies. We still have those. They were kept (archived!) in churches and cloisters.
They like their heroes. Tales like Beowulf are 8th century. The church wrote their hymns down so they could hand it out to their singers. The church provided education. The male elite could write…
Gregorius of Tours wrote his Historia Francorum. He wrote the history of the Francs, while they were still around! That’s archiving!
Yeah sure, they wrote how the Vikings were invaders and so on and on. But they wrote it down in the cloister archives!
I mean I can continue. But these were the things I mentioned in class.
To clarify, the Arabs did not re-introduce the production of archiving material and archives themself. They were just never gone. What the Arabs did do was re-introduced science! (Scream it out loud for the people in the back!). While Charlemagne was busy killing Slavs, the Arabs had libraries (Baghdad House of Wisdom) and research institutes and were good mathematicians and astronomers (many stars in our night sky have Arab names to this day). Europe owes a ton of stuff thanks to the Islamic Golden Age. But not really recording and archiving.
On the other hand, I was later informed that the lecturer started panicking because i apparently cornered him good. I just took the one time I get to prove that the last five years of me working around the Early Middle Ages wasn’t for nothing. I don’t want to apologise

The Salic Law/ Lex Salica
Tumblr media
The Salic Law is the written law of the Frankish empire. Its origin is both in Germanic customary law and Roman criminal law. Continuing Roman law fitted in the “Imperium Romanum Aeternum" or the idea that Rome was everlasting (the early Merovingians still saw themselves as Roman and didn't consider the (Western) Roman Empire "fallen").
There are many versions and interpretations of the Salic Law, depending on the Germanic additions made to it. This is especially true for customary law, punishments and inheritance. The most famous rule included in the text is that Kings/rulers have to be succeeded by their eldest son.
In some instances, new laws and punishments were added after incidents occurred which were not previously considered. There were for example different punishments for people who were free vs. slaves. Punishments could also vary, depending on the amount of people involved. Later Catholic additions include the banishment of pagan elements such as animistic practices, future predictions or the names of our weekdays. Some of these banishments are the only documented proof of certain pagan elements which were successfully oppressed by Christianity, such as the habbit of saying "bless you" after a sneeze. This indicates that a sneeze was used for interpretations (foresight, good luck charms, etc.) that could not coexist with Catholic devotion. "Bless you" was installed to replace whatever it was Germans did after a sneeze, turning it into a "positive" that survived into our current time.

getting h*rny about tender sex who the fuck am i
Soft fingers bunch the fabric around Johnny’s hips, drag his clothes down his thighs and he shiver as the bare skin of his ass touches the cold floor. Throws his head back with a hiss as Benny takes his cock in hand, uncaring of the wet need smeared all over it.
“Look at you,” Benny breathes, resting Johnny’s cock on his hand and lifting it up for him to inspect, “Prettier than I imagined.”
Johnny regards his cock for a few minutes and doesn’t find anything particularly remarkable about it, flushed pink and beading crystal bright at the head in delight at Benny’s soft caresses. His hips are rolling in little jerks into the clutch of Benny’s fingers and he bites back a quiet noise with every thrust, “You’ve imagined this?”
“Of course,” Benny says easily, “haven’t you?”
In abstract, maybe. A flash of a mouth or sweat dripping down Benny’s neck. Hands grasping at sides and the smooth curve of the other man’s ass in the shower. Dark shadows tangled together, things that stirred his body but were nowhere close to the cold clarity of reality. He nods.
Benny leans in to kiss him, and Johnny gives him teeth, just to prove himself and the other man tickles his fingers over his cock until Johnny is shivering with every caress.
“Now. Benny. Please” Johnny cuts out, then grits his teeth. Wishes he was smoother; better at this and less prickly.
One last kiss, tongue sweet and tasting of cigarettes and gin from Johnny’s own mouth, Benny settles down between Johnny’s thighs and cups his cock to rub the soft head against his cheek. Johnny winces at the sensation, unfamiliar and strange rather than any sort of pain, and Benny soothes him with a series of kisses up the shaft. Pauses to breathe a soft puff of air over the overheated skin. And then winks at Johnny.
His scowl is already slamming into place when Benny pops his mouth over the blushing weeping head. Drags the flat of his tongue along the unsderside and slips off in a weat smear to suck kisses down the other side.
Johnny’s skin is buzzing, his fingers are tangled in Benny’s hair without any input from his higher thinking and Benny’s swallowing his cock further and further down with every pass of his lips, spreading the glistening ring of salica further and further down. He’s got one hand on Johnny’s hips to steady him but he’s shivering too hard to move much at all, crying out with every dragging swipe of Benny’s tongue.
An unbitten, filthy thought pops into Johnny’s mind, passionate, calculated and precise,Benny DeMarco sucks cock like he flies a plane.

A big day for Wild Orchard Hatchery!
Wild Orchard Lore: Arc 1, Arcane Nightmares, Chapter 1
The Obelisk and Fathom half landed, half fell through the underbrush, winded and stumbling.
"Are we close?" the Obelisk panted.
The Fathom nodded. "There's definitely a strong source of magic near by."
"You still think it's strong enough to get this thing off our backs?"
"I think so. We'd better hope so, it's getting close."
The Obelisk nodded, helped the Fathom untangle a leg from a vine he'd become snared in, and the two of them struggled on.
Towards the Orchard that they didn't know was there.
-----
Cirrus checked her speed before entering the clearing up ahead. It felt disrespectful to just go crashing right up to your clan matriarch's nose as if it was nothing. She took a moment to catch her breath- a messanger who can't talk is no use- before approaching the Guardian sitting in the leaf litter between the massive trees.
"Dusk, I'm sorry to bother you, but important news," she announced. Dusk turned her head, and Cirrus imagined that she could hear the creak of wood like a tree groaning under a strong wind.
"Go ahead."
"Vera and Rosa both agree that they can sense something big coming this way. It's not close yet, but it's on the edge of their senses, and it's not going away."
Dusk rumbled and stood up slowly. "I'll come closer to the orchard in case I'm needed at home. Make sure Brocade is warned too, if you can find him." She stopped and chuffed a laugh. "What am I saying. You can find him."
"I'll make sure he's ready to go to work."
-----
Chittam flared his wings as full length as the trees and vines around would allow, bracing himself in the path of the two dragons that were rushing his way. They skidded to a stop when they saw him and one fell over, from exhaustion by the look of it. Chittam mentally switched gears from 'stop the intruders' to 'help the travelers' and lowered his wings.
"You're in Wild Orchard territory," he called out to them. "Do you need help?"
"Territory… what?" the dazed Fathom said as he strugled back to his feet. "You don't mean there's dragons living in this area."
"Quite near by, yes."
"There's some kind of terrible magic contamination near here! It's too dangerous!"
"We know about it," Chittam said guardedly. "We have it managed."
The Fathom and Obelisk exchanged openly terrified looks.
The Obelisk spoke next. "There's something dangerous chasing us. We led it to the magic here because we thought it would be deserted."
Chittam swore softly. "You should come back with me and tell our people what you can before whatever it is gets here."
"You don't understand," the Obelisk insisted. "You need to evacuate."
"We don't evacuate the Orchard. We defend it, or we die in it. I'm happy to take you with me to a safe place where you can rest, or to let you go onward, but I have to go report this in right away so we can prepare."
-----
"So you're why our Arcane girls have been having nightmares," Salica said, checking his newly arrived guests over and applying smears of salve to the scratches and cuts they'd gained from charging heedless through the Labyrinth.
"Nightmares?" the Obelisk, a lady named Tisana, asked.
Salica nodded. "Whatever you've led here has enough of an aura to set their sense off. They've been having terrible nightmares for days."
"So let me make sure I have this right," Chittam asked from off to the side. "You don't know what it is, you just know it's hunting you, and you can feel it coming?"
"It sounds silly when you put it like that," the Fathom, named Velare, said with a flinch as Salica's treatments sank into his cuts. "But yes. My father was cursed with a haunting, and I can feel that something is tuned in on me, coming after me. My only thought has been to get away from it."
"We'll be ready," Chittam said stonily whil Salica delicately wrapped a bandage around Velare's tail. "Everyone is getting into place. Whatever it is, we'll meet it."

I find it super funny how the early Valois kings were like: noooo, Edward III and his grandkids, you cannot say you're the rightful King of France! Lex Salica says no succession through a female line!
But then Francis II was totally cool claiming to be the rightful King of England by the virtue of his marriage to Mary, Queen of Scotts, whose entire claim to the English throne is through a female line.

I wasn’t particularly feared when I first ascended to godhood. The god of the lost they called me. But that title missed something important, I protected the lost. I did not simply govern them and as a result my power was specific. The lost were sheltered so long as I stood by them.  A dead soldier’s spirit, a kind red deer, a graveyard hound with no graveyard left to defend. All forms of spirits offered themselves to help me throughout my long life.
It was one of the old timers, Zeus or Hermes I don’t remember which, who came for the nymph. I was nearby and chose to protect her. Before either her or the old god noticed me I had ripped half the assailant’s ear off and set to work on their throat. It was a tried and true method and had served me well against highwaymen and other fools. It served me well here. The god vanished quickly as I arrived, leaving only ichor that smoked and bubbled on the ground. I turned to the nymph and smiled, tongue lolling out the side of my gold stained mouth as my tail wagged. She laughed and patted the grave hound’s head. I guess that's probably why she insisted we keep grave hounds in the house.
Millennia had passed. Many gods had changed or perished. We still lived though, a poplar tree in the center of a crypt marking the entrance to our home. I was called upon often now. Humanity always had lost in need of rescue but the stars where harsh and unforgiving. So I made use of the new forms offered to me. Dawson’s Christian joined the Dutchman and Barnham’s Pride as one of my favored forms. Jamie was good company too, good with the kids and with a nose for expensive booze. Salicae liked his cakes too. So we would often find the three of us curled around a fire in the depths of our home sipping ancient wines and sharing a cake. It was here that Dexelin, the god of smugglers and pirates, found us. I suppose in a way we were bound to be at odds. Hermes had always hated me too, another god of thieves. I invited the towering god to sit and drink with us. Perhaps come morning he would have a new view on life, and our role in it. He struck the poplar in rage, an axe sinking halfway into its trunk. Salicae screamed in pain and Jamie grabbed the kids. Two grave hounds had Dexelin by the arms before I had time to stand. One struck my dearest’s tree with a sickening crunch, the other ripped half the muscle from the fool's arm before jumping for the now unoccupied one. Mid jump another axe cut him in two. Salicae was no longer screaming but I could see her pain. “Is this it?” Dexelin asked as his arm remit itself. “The god of the lost who has caused me so much trouble has nothing but a pair of welps to defend his home?” I looked at him. I was angry. For the first time in my life I was actually angry. This wasn’t a job. I wasn’t protecting the lost. I was going to make them. “Are you prepared to die?” Jamie asked, he knew me well.
“To die? I’m a god. I can’t die.”
I finally moved, speaking as I did. “No. You can. All other gods can.” The true form of my power came to me instantly. It was familiar despite millennia of disuse, it had grown to recognizable so I had left it behind. A smiling skull, a simple black cloak, and a scythe. The form was mine alone. Given to me at my ascent to godhood, it was the truth of my power. I had been a farmer before I was a god. When war came to my city and thousands lay dying in my fields I reaped from them. I gave them all peace and love as they returned home be they warrior, priest, noble, commoner or king. Peace at the edge of my bronze scythe. “After all everyone is lost someday."
It has been said “A man will do great and terrible things to protect his loved ones.” You’re a retired god about to educate a young upstart god why you were so feared by the others when he came after your wife.

Die Erle
Andere Namen: Frau Else, Eller, Mönch, Seicherl
Tumblr media Tumblr media

2008 G6 GXP Quick Tour/Overview
- This is actually Dave and he does a good job and it's tough job it's a hard job to do then the max say it's for us too didn't workout for them last time yet they wanna go ahead with it and we're all for it it's a coupe it's nice he doesn't need a 4 door it cost too much in gas and this thing can move out the top speed is pretty fast with AV6 too it still goes A180 miles an hour it's too fast and we'd have a limiter. They did sell them with limiters on them. We know which one it is it is not this one and there is a black one. George Washington starts out with a black horse. One might be the Pontiac and that one is our sons as well and they trade off the color but not the Horse. There's other things going on but this is very important and he looked up the price and he found prices from 3500 to around$12,000. It really matters on the condition and the mileage this one he says he had 25,000 miles it's in great shape but he modified it so it's probably about $10,000 that's what happens he touched the brake calipers and structural things except he could probably get 15 to 20 thousand dollars. But that's in certain neighborhoods in areas this thing really moves out he's got new tires and rims and he's done something to the motor and it's not major and a little to the exhaust and it goes over 200. And he said I don't think I've been that fast with it but he has. These things really move I mean this car is fast for a regular coupe the Salica was going 140 and that was very fast but this in the supra can go 190 this is faster than that and it's AV 6 it does have AV8 version no but but it's fast enough. We are looking for approval for the car and we hear Jack Black and they're trying to make it they wanted to design it and they put some time into it not much and BG has started carving no he says it's an artist thing and he wants to wait and see if the art is gonna compel him to do it. And there are certain things that he does note and he says I've seen Jack Sparrow think three times and since we talked about the car and he says 0 and one of them You're a drink you're drinking some girls beer in your beer can and it's the same kind of beer. Well those are signs. It's the females beer and I'm gonna get to it he says and the other one was obscure it was like Kylo Ren who looked like Jack Sparrow but put the Kylo Ren mask on and he says ohh that's weird and he gets that kind of stuff. It might be his guys telling him. One of them looked like Tommy F. Says that's true the other one was a trumpster so he's saying ohh OK and there's more signs that have been happening but they wanna try and get the design but they need that as a backup but if this went forward it would cover up getting the design and it would cover up them trying for it. And he's interested so he's going to go ahead and try and make the wooden one and keep it kind of private and it's going forwards. We have more to announce in a moment.

Weiss soon pulled back, letting out a series of slutty moans as she slapped her tongue and face with the big dick. Smearing salica and precum all over her beautiful face
"Yes~! Daddy's big bad Faunus fuckmeat tastes so good~! So much better than a pathetic human dick~!" Weiss moaned sluttily before swallowing him back down

Leo smirked as he watched the cards be flipped over on the table, his face otherwise an inscrutable mask. Ruby had already been knocked out, leaving just himself, Blake, Yang, and Weiss. Each hand was good, better than the last... until it came to him.
"Sorry ladies... But..." He turned over his cards, revealing his hand. Using the hole cards, he had a straight flush of spades, four to eight. The high hand on the table. He chuckled softly as he looked from woman to woman, steepling his fingers as he rests his elbows on the table. "So... The game is mine. As are you..."
"Oh no! That's.... Damn it!" Weiss called in a fake anger, sitting back in her chair
"Well... The final loss. Crap. My shuffling sucked." Yang said nonchalantly with a shrug, her clothing barley hiding anything
"Maybe it was stupid to go all in when we still had so much left." Blake hummed in 'though', her eyes roaming over Leo for a moment
"You win Leo.... Team RWBY belongs to you, Master." Ruby nodded in defeat

1, 7, 13, 42 for FR lore questions (sent from my main, I'm bananaquit-fr)
a character loved by their community Everyone loves and appreciates Salica, the clan's main healer. How could they not? He patches up every wild injury the clan's fighters can drag themselves home with and never complains. Some healers grow jaded with time, but this boy is a perpetual sweetheart who's always doing his best.
7. someone who loves their job This fits most of my clan's dragons, but I'm going to scream Topaz's name from the rooftops here. My terrifying fighter girl, she's a combat mage, she's a swordswoman, she's a brawler, she's everything. No undead is safe when Topaz is around. My beautiful girl, granddaughter of my progens, via the lore lair of my partner who owns one of the progen kids. Just a great dragon.
13. a one-sided friendship Kemena, towards Ember. Ember is the resident Imperial expert, keeping an eye on the health of the clan's Imps to make sure nobody is showing signs of getting too filled with magic and becoming any kind of monstrosity. This makes him perpetually stressed and kind of dour, especially towards others of his own kind. Kemena, meanwhile, is a joyous creature, full of life and vitality, good humor and laughter. She just refuses to take Ember seriously. Oh, sure, she submits to the health exams, she answers his questions and lets him test her blood and all that. But she just does not let the idea of her species being under a dark cloud get her down. She feels friendly towards Ember and pities him a little, whereas he just thinks she's a troublemaker.
42. how your clan sees their flight/deity Wild Orchard is extremellly pro-Glademom, pro-Nature element. For the longest time there was only one Plague dragon in the clan, and that with a great deal of emotion and drama for how unusual it was. There are two or three now but that's mostly because nobody was going to side-eye the legendary undead fighter Drusilla when she left Oakrest.
