I recently went to a workshop called Influence, persuade and how to get what you want.
Intriguing right?!
The workshop was run by the lively and likeable Pete Scott from @salesskillsacademy
Apparently we spend 40% of our lives trying to get what we want. That’s a lot of effort for things that don’t always go in your favour.
Here are my 5 Take-away, and most easily actionable points from the workshop.
(Caveat: These points are written as applicable to work based interactions, but can be easily adapted to any situation.)
1. Be the first to arrive.
Do exactly that.
Being the first to arrive demonstrates respect and time management - while giving you the upper hand by already feeling more comfortable in the surroundings.
2. Fake it ’til you make.
This is about getting familiar with being in those uncomfortable situations.
Deliberately do something that makes you feel uncomfortable. And your brain will start to feel comfortable.
3. Decide how you're going to feel before you start something.
This is called emotional shopping, basically choose the emotions you want to feel on any given day.
If you want to feel confident, have a productive day & and do it all with a smile on your lips - decide it. Be certain. And do it.
4. Communication is: 78% visual, 20% vocal & 2% content.
For the receiver of your communication, what they see and how they hear it, is more important than what they are told. Got it.
So now we (re)know that tone is important. As is your appearance in its representation of you.
And finally -
5. Give your best assets for free.
In this context your best assets are: your time, your effort & your wisdom.
These ARE our best assets. And yet, we probably all under-rate them.
We are giftas.
A money gift registry started by Jen and Sam.
Let’s stay together.
