Covid-19: Cause of Critical Concern to Workers
In this corona crisis, the whole country is under lockdown and a general holiday has been declared. Most people are staying at home to prevent the infection from spreading. While a lot are fine staying at home and some are enjoying their time spent with their family, for some this is not the case of just staying home to relax with their family. For some it is a life and death struggle to stay at home without proper work and an empty stomach.
Kuddus is working as a security guard in Dhaka and has to stay at the workplace for the convenience of the people living in the building he is guarding. Thus he is staying alone here without his family. As he is living here alone, he has to go out for buying groceries for himself. He is worried about his health, but more than that he is worried about his family in the village as they are solely dependent on him. “It is harder to send money at home as there are less Bikas agents around. It takes few days to find an agent, I am very worried about my family”, says Kuddus.
Kuddus isn’t the only one. Many workers are facing such problems during this covid-19 pandemic. Due to the Corona crisis, many factories and businesses are closed. Some of them are unsure if they will be able to continue further even if the lockdown has withdrawn. Some workers are having financial crisis because of not getting payment properly as their employers are unable to pay properly. Abdul Baten who is working in a garments factory as a cutting master, is having trouble with his finances as he didn’t get his full wage. He received only half of his payment. This is causing trouble for him to provide for his family properly. He is worried about daily needs, especially when Eid is nearing. He is not even sure when he will get the rest of the salary let alone the Eid bonus. He is still required to pay the house rent. As the factories are open and operating, he and the other RMG workers are needed to go to work. He claims, “In the factory there isn’t any special precautions for corona and it is not possible to maintain social distance at the time of work”. In a research on Bangladesh apparel workers it is claimed that, “The factories can’t pay the workers’ salaries in this critical situation. Therefore, millions of workers have been sent home without their wages.”
This is not the case of only garments workers. Another joint survey of the Power and Participation Research Centre and BRAC Institute of Governance and Development reveals that, per capita daily income of urban slum and rural poor drops by 80% due to present countrywide shutdown enforced by the government to halt the spread of Covid-19. It also shows that 40%-50% of these people took loans to meet the daily expenses.
Sumon is working in a gold workshop as a gold smith. In normal times he makes a decent income and during the Eid season they have a lot of work. But due to the Covid-19 crisis and the lockdown all the gold shops are closed and there is no sell. Sumon says that in the time when they were supposed to get more money and bonus incomes, they are facing the threats of keeping their jobs. After all if there is no work there is no income for them as they earn on the base of their work. Al-Amin who is working as a driver and like Kuddus he is staying at home alone as his family is at the village. But unlike Kuddus he is not staying in Dhaka for the sake of work rather he couldn’t go home to his family because of the lockdown as moving from one place to another is not possible. Even though he is still in the city, his employers are not giving him any duty and are telling him to stay at home. When asked about what he was doing to stay safe from corona virus, he said that he is staying home unless it is necessary like shopping from groceries. He added that he is even praying at home instead of going to the mosque except for ‘Jumma’. He also said that he is maintaining cleanliness as well. When asked if his employers helped him to stay safe in this crisis time, he said that they gave him mask, gloves and sanitizers. They are also calling him regularly to check on him.
Like the employees the employers are also very concerned regarding the covid-19 virus and the lockdown. A lot of them are unable to run their businesses and only a few are able to run it in a limited range. A lot of them are unable to pay their employees salary; in fact some of them are unable to keep the workers and have to cut off some employees. Sahidullah, owner of Kazi Builders, a construction business, has sent his entire workers home as all the construction sites are closed due to the pandemic. He said, “All the construction sites are closed and the workers are off duty. I have paid their wage but I am unable to pay any bonus for the Eid. I can barely manage myself, but the payments will not come unless the constructions are finished. The more delayed the constructions are the costlier it will get. So in the future I might not be able to higher same amount of workers as before”. Babul, a construction worker under Sahidullah said that they are very worried, as this lockdown has taken away their income source as all the construction projects have closed down for the time being. “If we cannot work, we will not have the money to support our families. Our employer is helping us now but if the construction is closed for longer than he won’t be able to help either. This is scarier than the virus. The virus can kill us but starving to death is worse than corona for us”, said Babul.
Not just factories and businesses but those who entirely depend on house rent for their income are also facing problems. Nasrin Ara has few houses of her own and is solely dependent on the rent for her income. But due to this Corona crisis, many of her tenants are unable to pay the rent properly. Among the 48 of her tenants, only eight of them paid the rent fully. Some of them paid the half. Even some of the tenants have left because of losing her job. She said, “This is a criticaltime where we cannot pressure the people to give the rents. But we have to go on too. This is our only income source. I have already reduced the rent of this month. I am even not sure how I will pay the security guard, cleaner and the other employees next month. I have already cut off their bonus for Eid but if this continues I might not be able to keep them in their post.” A lot of her tenants are RMG workers and most of them have their factories open. They have to go for work every day. As a result, she is also concerned about the spreading of the infection.
Not only just Kuddus or Baten, there are people many workers like them who are suffering mentally and financially in this pandemic of Covid-19. There are also many people like Nasrin and Sahidullah who are also helpless and are unable to keep the workers working under them to their jobs. If a solution to this situation is not found soon many more are going to end up worse than them.

59% of startups and MSME businesses will shut down
Corona may have a greater impact on small and new businesses.  A survey has revealed that more than half of startups and small companies in the country may be closed by the end of this year.  Or they can be sold.
59% of startups and MSME businesses will shut down According to a survey by Local Circle, 59 percent of the country's startups and small and medium (MSME) businesses will shut down or sell themselves.
Only 22% of startups and MSMEs will be able to run on their own for more than 3 months.  41% are businesses that have money for 1 month or less.  49% are startups and MSMEs who plan to cut the salaries and benefits of employees by July.     RBI has introduced some policies and guidelines to support MSMEs in difficult times.     Read here- https://www.bhaskar.com/business/news/coronavirus-lockdown-impact-india-startups-and-small-companies-may-be-closed-amid-latest-covid-crisis-128531937.html

So the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, first addressed children and said that the Easter Bunny is a vital profession and will continue to work during the corona crisis. And now she’s cutting her own salary AND the salaries of her ministers in solidarity with those hit by COVID-19.
THIS is how you lead a country: with love and patience and respect. I am moving to New Zealand. I love her <3

COVID -19 Effects On Business
No formal introduction is required on coronavirus. This virus was first detected in China and slowly it starts spreading its arms in the neighbouring countries. Thousands of people were killed around the world because of this deadly virus in the last six months. Not only the European countries have a great impact on their business but the Asian countries have also lost their huge customers and even some of the businesses were permanently closed because they were not able to afford the salaries of their employees. The major industries affecting with the virus is travel, tourism, car rental and retail sales
Tumblr media
MINDSET OF TOURIST
Earlier tourist selects their favourite destination and packs their bags but now things are changing so quickly. People have started cutting down their spending on food, travel, clothes, and gadgets and even on entertainment. Tourists are frequently cancelling their trips and getting a refund from hotels, airfares. Not only the  the tourism and travel industry faced a lot of financial crisis but even people are fearful of sending their children to schools and colleges .Schools and colleges are shut down since the beginning of the year. People are taking the preventive measure to keep themselves safe from this deadly disease, and to reduce the infection. Many  international and domestics flights were cancelled worldwide to limit the high risk of disease.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMPACT ON ECONOMY
As we all know that from the local business to multinational companies faces a huge loss. But we can say the present situation is different from the previous situation. Currently, our priority is to control this spreading disease. You will be glad to know that many countries have been reported corona virus free like new Zealand and many countries have the lowest corona virus-like Malaysia.
The global world of work says almost 25 million people have lost their jobs worldwide. Fall in employment also impacts their lives. Working poverty is expected to increase significantly too. This seems with a blink of the eye this disease has upturned our lives, our businesses and the world’s economy.
Tumblr media
TRANSPORTATION AND ENTERTAINMENT
The earlier consumer was spending time and money on outdoor activities like swimming, cycling, road trips and many more but now they feel comfortable sitting at home and do not want to explore to the virus. Travel restrictions are also a problem for businesses that need to deliver the goods. Some deliveries were disrupted and some become more expensive. Throughout the world from production to consumption and investment has suffered greatly. Quarantine areas appeared, and the country also imposed curfews.
Tumblr media
TECHNOLOGY ROLE
The government announced that the businesses could operate but they have to follow the strict guidelines of the government. Looking deeper into it, technology has been played a crucial role during MCO. Many new innovative methods were discovered. Office or board meetings were done on the different apps, school conduct online classes not for the elders students but for the junior classes too. With this, they were following the main precaution that maintains social distancing.
Many organizations still need to return to work strategies. Many organizations still need to return to work strategies. Body temperature screening, QR codes are now everywhere. Only the healthy employees are allowed to access the office premises.
Tumblr media
CONCLUSION
At the end I penned these thoughts, we are moving in the right direction. We are getting the encouraging results because of the hard-won by the sacrifices by both the community as well as local. Doctors, Sweepers, Nurses and charity organizations played a major role in it and still working hard every day to irradiate this virus. Domestic transportation is open in many countries. Customers are renting cars and motorbikes and avoiding crowded places. Businesses are reopening. States will start to ease tourism. Post pandemic crisis hope that travellers will embrace the freedom of travelling and hope that domestic tourism will bounce back and recover quickly.

The Corona Reboot
It’s early yet, but we’ll see once the bodies are buried.
https://www.ianalanpaul.com/the-corona-reboot/
The Corona Reboot
by Ian Alan Paul
A decade from now, historians may very well call the coronavirus pandemic the great deceleration. The bodies that had been endlessly propelled through cities on metros, buses, bicycles, and freeways now sit in self-imposed isolation at home, the international flights that had been relentlessly criss-crossing continents now are increasingly grounded, and the container ships that had been churning steadily back and forth across oceans now drift idly beside coastal ports, buoyed by their lack of cargo. Chinese factories lay serenely still without their workers as if they were relics of a bygone industrial era, while environmentalists post online about the substantial reduction in global carbon dioxide emissions. The relentlessly accelerating velocities of capitalism appear, quite unexpectedly and abruptly, to be grinding, lumbering, and lurching into a languid slumber.
Following from the desertion of offices, factories, universities, restaurants, and other places of work, the historical suspension of the planet’s economy has given us all time for long conversations in living rooms and on phones, for cooking intricate recipes and reading long-forgotten books on shelves, for bringing groceries and medicine to neighbors in need, for playing in baths with children sent home from school, and for watching films that had been put off for years. People sleep, write, cry, dance, play, exercise, have sex, and laugh in the new pause we find ourselves within. The fragility, vulnerability, and interdependency of life come to be more intensely felt and drawn more acutely into focus as the virus spreads, opening the way for new intimacies, solidarities, and creativities. Even when surrounded by crisis and fear, fragile but utopian moments nonetheless find life.
And yet it already appears that, after only a few days of a planetary interlude characterized by an unprecedented deceleration of life on every continent where people have begun questioning the social order that had defined their lives up to this point, immense accelerations have been set into motion in an attempt to socially, economically, and politically compensate for the velocities that had been lost elsewhere. The shutting down of our planet’s systems appears to have already been answered by a system reboot meant to capture the unactualized potentials of so many newly immobilized bodies, to economically put to use the many bodies that have rather unexpectedly found time to experiment with the multiplicity of life’s uses.
If a system reboot, what we might simply call the corona reboot, can be said to be taking place, it is only because power now understands society as being wholly integrated as a vast computer that can be programmed and reprogrammed as needed in response to whatever disruption, contingency, or event. In this sense, the deceleration of so many bodies appears to have opened the way for the cybernetic reorganization and reacceleration of planetary life, where social distancing has justified the implementation of the most intense forms of digitized connectivity and control technically realizable in our present. This text is ultimately an attempt to think through the possibility that the shutting down and subsequent rebooting of the planet presently underway may not in fact be a collection of ad-hoc measures that will fade as the contagion does, but that the coronavirus may come to serve as the catalyst for a new kind of society built upon the forms of digitized subjectivity that are forged within the unique historical circumstances of the pandemic.
At the very minimum, in this moment we must all struggle to understand the rapid transformations of social life, of work, and of politics presently underway not only in the interest of surviving this together and defending our common humanity, but also in hopes of establishing a different kind of society than the one presently imagined by power. If this planetary reboot takes form as a total recalibration of social, economic, and political life in the interest of preserving the continuity of the social, political, and economic order of capitalism, how might we begin to imagine social life differently in this trying moment?
At this early stage, it appears that at least two new kinds of subjectivity have already begun to take shape, both of which are mutually constitutive, intimately dependent upon, and shaped by the informatic infrastructures and apparatuses that now run through and organize much of our planetary society. On the one hand, we have the domesticated/connected subject, who in being confined to their home is pushed to invent new ways to reconnect to and participate in a virtualized economy. On the other hand, we have the mobile/disposable subject that serves as the circulatory system of the pandemic, a subject that becomes increasingly vulnerable and precarious as it is compelled to move at ever greater velocities. In order for domesticated/connected subjects to materially sustain themselves, they must be coupled with the mobile/disposable subject that fulfills the minimum material needs of society while ensuring the social possibility of isolated yet networked domestic life.
The domesticated/connected subject is horrifically cut off from social life in their home yet is intimately plugged into an increasingly networked economy. They are as docile as they are productive, integrated with society but integrated only as separate. Office workers, university professors, programmers, reporters, and cultural workers, among others, are all ordered to stay home, but to stay logged on. Video streaming platforms struggle to handle the new volumes of traffic while raking in profits, and everyone undergoes online training so they can continue to collaborate and work on a domesticated network. The isolation of the home corresponds with its degree of connectivity. The domesticated/connected subject can avoid the risk of being proximate and promiscuous with other possibly-infected bodies by simply connecting to the office meeting on Zoom, streaming culture on Netflix, ordering food on Postmates, venting on Facebook, and purchasing more hand sanitizer on Amazon, while Trump has announced that if you do end up with symptoms of the coronavirus all you must do is visit a site designed by Google to schedule a remote test. As the mobility of bodies becomes restricted to domestic spaces, computer keyboards dance with frenzied kinetic activity in service of slowing the contagion and keeping the economy stumbling along through waves of turbulent market volatility.
Emerging as a refrain to the domesticated/connected subject, the mobile/disposable subject moves at ever greater speeds and at ever greater risk so no one else has to. The interruption of public life is overrun by the feverishly accelerated mobile/disposable subject that is connected and subservient to the same informatic networks that connect domesticated/connected subjects to planetary economies. Commanded by smartphone apps delivering endless streams of pings and alerts that steer them from one gig to the next through nearly vacant streets, migrant workers on electric bikes have never been in higher demand, carrying food boxes from restaurants, bags of groceries from supermarkets, and miscellany from pharmacies, bodegas, and liquor stores to all of the salaried domesticated/connected workers who, now confined at home, create vast deluges of online orders.
Amazon truck drivers speed across neighborhoods, always over capacity and behind impossible-to-meet computationally-generated schedules, carrying boxes filled with diapers, batteries, bleach wipes, laptops, and breathing masks. Ambulance drivers are asked to simply never stop driving, while garbage workers haul larger and larger bags of trash filled with larger and larger volumes of domestic refuse. All of these workers are expected to go increasingly fast to keep up with increasing demand, and thus increasingly expose themselves to the contagion and other forms of risk associated with their embodied acceleration. The massive containment and isolation of the domesticated/connected subject has as its twin the mobile/disposable subject that constitutes the system of distribution for a new pandemic economy.
Both the domesticated/connected subjects working from home and the mobile/disposable subjects racing through the streets are ultimately brought together not only by the immense interconnected apparatuses of the digital economy but also by the blanket waves of social abandonment that now affect all life. When bodies of all kinds can be connected as isolated nodes on a network, remaining deeply reliant upon and subject to shifting algorithmic command and demand structures, the value of any single body approaches zero as every node on the network can be algorithmically swapped out and replaced with any other.
The cybernetic management and distribution of labor and commodities allows for the economy to draw on the population only as needed, while effectively abandoning the waste that is the remainder. When a domesticated/connected subject gets sick with the coronavirus and can no longer work, the still-healthy occupants of another house are ready to log on and fill their place, just as when a delivery worker breaks their leg after falling off of their bike, another can be pinged and made to run out the door. The emerging economic system doesn’t spare any time thinking of what may happen to all those who for whatever reason cannot manage to stay connected and working in this economy.
The massive deterritorialization of labor spurred on by the pandemic response has allowed for the implementation of a newly flexible organization of work that frees capitalism and the capitalist state of any responsibility for life in general as long as the economy survives. Providing adequate testing for the virus, guaranteeing universal access to healthcare, and ensuring monetary relief to newly impoverished populations are seen as unnecessary as long as everyone remains willing to connect, log on, and answer the relentless call of capitalism’s networks. The management of the population has become synonymous with the management of waste, excess, and trash, and only those who have the ability to accelerate will be sustained and supported by the larger logistical and infrastructural systems of a new post-pandemic cybernetic economy, which in reality is just a more extreme and refined form of the capitalism we had all already been accustomed to living within.
In this moment it is crucial that we insist that the reterritorialization of our society, the corona reboot, that is presently underway is not inevitable nor undefeatable. In the interlude of the pandemic there is an opportunity to refuse the imposition of digitized commands and coercive connections while defending and cultivating different kinds of human relation and interdependency. There is a chance now for all of us to consider how we might restart society differently rather than allow the logic of capital to unthinkingly do it for us. We’ll likely be in these pandemic circumstances for many months, so let’s use this time to disconnect from the pressures, exigencies, and demands of the economy and to reconnect with others in ways that do not conform or submit to the new kinds of acceleration and abandonment that are already being implemented everywhere around us.
The coronavirus pandemic marks the first time in our history that a planetary disruption of this kind and scale has occurred in a networked society such as ours, but that does not mean that we have to let the logic of capitalist networks be what ultimately reorganizes our ways of life. Already, we see mutual aid networks being constituted, new forms of digital labor being subverted, carceral structures being dismantled, and market logics being refused. We must think of this as just a beginning. How freely, wildly, and courageously will we allow ourselves to dream in this moment? What new practices of living and relationalities will we dare to put into practice? How can we overcome the domestic paranoia that sends people sprinting to supermarkets, the fear that keeps us away from neighbors, the depression that follows from reading the news, while also keeping one another safe and caring for one another as the virus spreads? How can we begin to find one another to act compassionately and collectively together in a struggle to arrive on the other side of this pandemic in a world not structured by abandonment, isolation, and acceleration but by the inextinguishable dignity and value of life itself? Each of us must dedicate ourselves to begin not only articulating but living answers to these questions in all of the varied situations we find ourselves living within.

Its just about being human.
Recently came across an interesting story of an EMPLOYEE.
The employee who has joined his dream company just before lock-down. Amidst the corona scare the company kept its word and virtually on-boarded him.
An employee- who is always feel insecure whenever they join a new company, new people around, new projects, new expectations, new politics. Does not matter how much experienced that EMPLOYEE is – He/she will be apprehensive for few days.
In the WFH the new normal culture, people who have joined virtually or on-boarded virtually they are even more scared and in secured. They have not met any colleagues, did not understand the company culture and the most important point the uncertainty of the NEW JOB, due to economic crisis.
So , coming back to the story- the new company did all the joining formalities and she has been given no project , since every one was struggling to shift working style from offline to online, the new Employee has been given no work.
It also has created a bit panic to the person, no work means no salary or may be lay off.
It was her birthday a few days back, falling on a Saturday. She hadn’t been given any assignments till then but just a day before, she received an invite for a 3 hr meeting. The entire team was to be a part along with the Dept head and the Div head. She wondered childishly that “ out of all the days I could begin work, why did it have to be on my birthday + Saturday + early morning long duration call”. However, the (video)call started off well as she could finally meet and greet her fellow team members. Everyone in the team wished her and then it was time to open the presentation for the meeting. The first slide had a cake which she has been asked to virtually cut. Once she did that, amidst cheer from my team, she noticed that there was no other slide in the ppt. She couldn’t believe that all this was set up just to wish her! Everyone took the time and effort just to surprise her and make her feel comfortable.
In this short and nice story of an EMPLOYEE who has a designation of Marketing Manager.
Don’t you think this small gesture and positivity is more than enough for that new person in the system to perform her job role much better way than she expected by herself.
Sometimes its not about money, or designation or deadlines. Sometimes its just to be Human.
EMPLOYEES are ASSET to the company they are NOT LIABILITIES. If they are taken care during tough time, they have that capacity to make a company from start up to a giant in the industry.

Don’t let me forget
A Line is drawn in the sand.
Then and Now, worlds apart.
Countries lie cleaved open
The peripheries have frittered away
Our false Gods, our myths, our props
In a heap on the floor
Only the faultlines show.
Suddenly, one fell swoop has meaning
Borders disappeared. Jobs were lost. Lives snuffed out.
Like a sword to the neck.
You realise you don’t need much.
Safe shelter. Bills paid. Food.
Some don’t even have this.
Shame pricks at me.
You are thankful that someone is still driving the trains, cabs, buses. Someone is growing your food. Someone is cleaning all that you touch and someone is saving lives.
They kept the world running
As we scattered to our homes - the low-skilled. The minimum-waged essential workers.
Somewhere between Then and Now
Even words have become a farce.
And cliches have become truth.
We are only as strong as our weakest, our most vulnerable.
Our lives do depend on one another.
I stand at my windows and clap for the NHS workers. I wish I could do more. That somehow I could stitch together our collective applause to clothe and protect them. How did we come to live in a world amply prepared for war but so woefully ill-equipped for saving lives?
I switch on the TV.
Boris Johnson has corona. There are visible shocks and prayers.
Bus drivers have died. So have nurses and doctors.
But we continue to dispense them out without protection.
Yes, the virus might not discriminate but we are not in this together
We were never in this together.
That alone has become clear.
A crisis never transforms anything, does it? It just reveals.
Some get the tests. Some get the doctors. Some get the ventilators.
It’s russian roulette for the rest of us
Between paracetamol and a prayer.
The world without humans marches on.
The sun rises. The flowers bloom. The birds sing.
Apparently, we never mattered much.
And that is a relief.
We all know what’s coming next. We have been here before. Salaries will be cut, Jobs will be lost. We will be asked to understand. To sacrifice.
Just us. Not the politicians. Never the CEOs.
Their jobs will forever remain indispensable.
The salaries always sacrosanct.
They say you can’t unsee what you have seen.
I have little faith in that.
The veil of the Temple might be torn
But memory is short. Distractions, many.
When the World of Then resumes again, when the bailouts finally come, when the same song is sung about who needs to be propped up and who should be left behind, all I ask is that I don’t be allowed to forget –
That it never really trickles down.
That nothing is inevitable.
Words. Priorities - everything is choice.
And that when all was said and done
Please don’t let me forget
Who it was
That kept the world running.

Sabi next to Kuman? "My dream is to coach Barca, if necessary..."먹튀검증
Tumblr media
먹튀검증먹튀사이트먹튀검증사이트먹튀 검증  먹튀 사이트 먹튀 검증 사이트
Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez has responded to the possibility of a new appointment.
Barcelona are in their worst crisis ever. An unexpected storm swept through Corona 19, and there were problems in various areas, such as no audience, advertisements, sponsors, and distribution of broadcast rights. As a result, profits plummeted, and the former chairman's negligent management led him to sit in huge debt.
According to due diligence released in September, Barcelona had a debt of 1.35 billion euros. As a result, he did not renew his contract with Lionel Messi this summer, and quickly put out the fire through the sale of his team.
Not only this. Barcelona have worked with the captains to negotiate salary. According to Spanish media, Gerard Pique has agreed to a pay cut of more than 80%. Thanks to Pique, Barcelona were able to meet their salary cap in the Spanish La Liga and register Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero as free agents.
Bad grades are a bonus. Barcelona and La Liga, which have been revived with 1 win and 1 draw in their last 2 matches, are in 7th place, and 3rd in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Considering the existing reputation, the current situation is not suitable.
At the same time, there are growing calls for sacking of manager Ronald Koeman. Koeman took office ahead of last season. He took on squad changes to his liking, disposing of veteran resources such as Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic.
The results were not as good as the decision. Although they lifted the trophy at the Copa del Rey in the 2020-21 season, they were in trouble with 3rd place in La Liga and elimination from the UCL round of 16. In addition, Koeman is showing limitations in his leadership as his performance is not good this season.
Some argue that we should bring in Xabi, who is showing good leadership in Al Sadd. In addition, Spanish media, including British '90min', said, "Barcelona is considering Xavi."
Director Xavi opened his mouth in this regard. In an interview with '20 Minutos', he said, "It is my dream to coach Barcelona. I have never hidden my will. Barcelona is my goal and my dream."

Aron Levine of Bank of America Consumer Banking and Merrill Edge talk about how parents today talk to their children about money problems, saving, and investing in the markets.
Even during the Corona crisis, parents support their children financially.
According to a new study by Bank of America, 31% say they believe they are more supportive of their children now than they were before COVID-19.
The Preferred Insights: Hindsight is 20/20 Personal Finance Report surveyed 2,000 “wealthy” Americans in the US in the fall of 2020, including 1,456 current and future parents, and found that children young and old depend on their mother or father’s money are .
3 OUT OF 4 PARENTS WERE DONE IN PERSONAL FUNCTIONS TO HELP THEIR ADULT CHILDREN DURING THE Pandemic
While nearly a third of Bank of America’s parents said they support their children financially, many also said they are willing to pay for large expenses from life events.
To be precise, 75% of current or future parents who took the survey said they would be willing to pay for their child’s college education and 74% said they would be willing to pay for their child’s wedding.
Parents are still helping their children financially during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new study by Bank of America. (iStock)
Daily living expenses weren’t that high on parents’ lists, but almost half said they would be willing to help if their child needed it. For example, 49% said they would pay their child’s phone bill and 44% said they would pay their child’s rent.
PROFESSIONAL PARENTS REACH THEIR CORONAVIRUS BREAKING POINT – AND PAY FOR IT
Although parents who responded to Bank of America’s survey want the best for their children, more than three-quarters (77%) say there is a limit.
Thirty percent of parents who think children shouldn’t depend on them forever believe that after a “good salary” a child doesn’t need financial support.
Likewise, 27% believe that children can be cut off financially after they find their first job.
WHEN DO FAMILIES RECEIVE THE REQUIRED CHILD TAX CREDIT? THE DATA YOU NEED TO KNOW
According to a study by Bank of America, wealthy respondents between the ages of 18 and 24 had investable assets between $ 50,000 and $ 1 million, while those over 25 had investable assets between $ 100,000 and $ 1 million.
These respondents, some of whom are already parents, say they learned about personal finances from their own parents.

The corona virus pandemic has pushed professionals to adapt to a remote working style.
The corona virus pandemic has pushed professionals to adapt to a remote working style. Many people have occasionally worked from home, but the transition to a completely distant working life is surprising. About 32% of professionals said they had never worked from home before COVID-19 situation, according to a Procurify survey. Telecommuting is an adjustment, but 69% of those surveyed said their business offered no additional perks to ease the transition from working from home. One of the biggest problems is having all the necessary equipment, and only 53% of those polled said their equipment covered the cost of supplies, according to the survey.
With the economy in free fall, professionals are rightfully worried about finances. Working from home means having solid connectivity, a suitable hardware system, and a space to do your work.
However, not all employees automatically have this service, and 41% of respondents said they don’t think they will be reimbursed immediately for their expenses when working from home.
When asked which supplies would be most useful in their home office, respondents cited the following:
A desk to sit / stand 18%
An ergonomic chair 16%
A new computer screen 15%
A headphone 12%
A printer 10%
Laptop stand 9%
A wireless keyboard and mouse 7%
Director of Motley Daniele Lecke, said: “After the transition to quick remote work, employers may be surprised to see that they can use their personal property such as mobile devices and internet connections at home. Whether you like it or not.” Compensating people with the necessary tools or providing those tools is more critical than ever as people particularly need this support during the corona virus crisis, said Jessica Lim, human resources partner at MyPerfectResume.
For companies discussing equipment provision, Lackey outlined a few groups that, in her opinion, were definitely worth reimbursing. She recommended reimbursing team members who earn at or near minimum wage. Additionally, team members who live in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Iowa, Montana, or Washington, DC must be compensated as those states require reimbursement for business expenses of employees regardless of salary.
“Providing a work from home is especially important after the recent tax reform of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which eliminated the deduction for un-reimbursed labor expenses,” Lackey said.
Lim offered “professional advice” to the companies, suggesting that they select a specific store and a particular make and model of office supplies so that the process would be consistent and fair to all workers.
The organizations suggested by Lim bear the cost of a laptop, an ergonomic office chair (limited budget), a mouse, a laptop stand, an external monitor, an external keyboard and a printer.

Canada to quarantine travelers, suspend flights south (AP) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday announced stricter restrictions on travelers in response to new, likely more contagious variants of the novel coronavirus—including making it mandatory for travelers to quarantine in a hotel at their own expense when they arrive in Canada and suspending airline service to Mexico and all Caribbean destinations until April 30. Trudeau said in addition to the pre-boarding test Canada already requires, the government will be introducing mandatory PCR testing at the airport for people returning to Canada. “Travelers will then have to wait for up to three days at an approved hotel for their test results, at their own expense, which is expected to be more than $2,000,” Trudeau said. “Those with negative test results will then be able to quarantine at home under significantly increased surveillance and enforcement.” The steep cost for the hotel stay includes the cost for a private PCR test, security, food and the cost of measures the designated hotels will have to take to keep their workers safe.
CDC orders sweeping U.S. transportation mask mandate as COVID-19 rages (Reuters) The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a sweeping order late Friday requiring the use of face masks on nearly all forms of public transportation Monday as the country continues to report thousands of daily COVID-19 deaths. The order, which takes effect at 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, requires face masks to be worn by all travelers on airplanes, ships, trains, subways, buses, taxis, and ride-shares and at transportation hubs like airports, bus or ferry terminals, train and subway stations and seaports. While airlines and most transit modes already require masks, the CDC order will make not wearing a mask a violation of federal law that could make it easier for flight attendants and others to enforce.
Washingtonians navigate new normal: razor-tipped wire fences and armed soldiers (Washington Post) Weeks after their jogging routes and day care drop-offs were interrupted by a mob storming the U.S. Capitol, the residents of a quiet neighborhood nestled amid the national monuments are wrestling with life in a fortress, where checkpoints abut corner stores and armed soldiers are new neighbors. Some residents on Capitol Hill have rallied behind the thousands of National Guard members stationed nearby, bringing them wagons full of snacks and hot coffee to express gratitude for their service. Other locals have gone to great lengths to avoid the encampment, saying the presence of armed troops and fencing topped with razor wire makes them feel even more on edge in their own neighborhood. “This is our land, and many of us are attached to this land because it’s made us who we are,” said Anthony Lorenzo Green. “Now we have the feeling of being occupied.” The heightened security measures are not going away anytime soon. More than 9,500 National Guard members from 19 states were on duty in D.C. on Wednesday, officials said.
The Skyrocketing Homeless Population of São Paulo (Der Spiegel) The day that Tiago Ferreira de Almeira’s normal life came to an end, he packed some clothes and his most important documents into a suitcase. He walked out the door, leaving behind his bed, his television and the rest of his belongings. It was the day when Ferreira lost his apartment in Bela Vista, a middle-class neighborhood in São Paulo. Ferreira, 29, had worked until May at a chocolate factory called Kopenhagen. But when the company was forced to lay off several of its employees because of the coronavirus, he no longer had enough money for his next rent payment. Since June, Ferreira has been living on the street or in homeless shelters, a different place every night. Even before the corona crisis, the economy in South America’s largest country was struggling. The middle class was shrinking, and the number of homeless people was continually ticking upward. But ever since the beginning of the pandemic and the half-hearted lockdown early on, the country has slid into a deep economic crisis. The number of unemployed has skyrocketed, as has the number of people living on the streets of the country’s largest cities. Volunteers estimate that the number of homeless people in São Paulo, the largest and economically most powerful city in South America, has jumped by 60 to 70 percent. Official numbers are not yet available, but anecdotal evidence can be seen at soup kitchens for the homeless, where the number of people waiting for a meal has more than tripled in some cases. One NGO employee calls it a “horror scenario.” Another says: “We are now constantly being asked basic questions, with people wanting to know what corners are safe for sleeping or whether they can show up again tomorrow for a meal.”
France closes its borders to all countries outside the E.U. as cases rise (NYT) France said on Friday that it would close its borders to non-European Union countries as cases rise and the government struggles to avoid a new lockdown. Jean Castex, the French prime minister, said that all travel between France and nations outside of the E.U. would be banned starting on Sunday, with exceptions made only for urgent matters. All travelers from E.U. countries, except for cross-border workers, will have to present a negative coronavirus test to enter the country, Mr. Castex added. Speculation about new restrictions had been growing in France over the past week, with a flurry of conflicting and often confusing information from officials, and many were expecting President Emmanuel Macron to replace the current 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew with a new lockdown. Speaking after a special cabinet meeting in Paris, Mr. Castex acknowledged France faced a “strong risk of acceleration of the epidemic” because of the more contagious British and South African variants of the virus, and said debates over a new nationwide lockdown were “legitimate.” “But we all know the very heavy toll it has on the French, on all counts,” he said of a lockdown. “This evening, we consider that in view of the numbers over the past few days, we can still give ourselves a chance to avoid one.”
No income, 2,000 mouths to feed: Lockdown squeezes Greek zoo (AP) It’s feeding time at Greece’s only zoo, and a capuchin monkey grabs as many mandarins as it can—even tucking one into his long, supple tail. It might be wise to stock up. After being closed for almost three months due to COVID-19, the zoo on the fringes of Athens could be on the road to extinction: With no paying visitors or—unlike other European zoos—enough government aid to cover its very particular needs, the Attica Zoological Park faces huge bills to keep 2,000 animals well-fed and healthy. “As things are ... we still can go on for at least one month,” zoo founder and CEO Jean Jacques Lesueur said. “After that, we don’t know.” Unlike some businesses forced to temporarily close due to virus-control restrictions, the zoo continues to have sizeable operating expenses. Between food, salaries, utilities, medical care and other expenses, the cost of caring for the animals currently exceeds 200,000 euros ($243,000) per month. “That’s the difference between us and other companies: When they close they close. We close, but we don’t close,” Lesueur told The Associated Press.
Moscow court puts Navalny’s allies under house arrest (AP) A Moscow court on Friday put the brother and several allies of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny under house arrest for two months as authorities sought to stymie more protests over the jailing of the top Kremlin foe. Navalny’s supporters called for rallies on Sunday to demand his release. Tens of thousands of people demonstrated across Russia last weekend to protest his Jan. 17 arrest and 30-day detention. Moscow police announced that pedestrian movement would be restricted in the city center on Sunday and that subway stations in the vicinity of the planned protest site would be closed. Restaurants and stores in the area also will be closed, mayoral aide Alexei Nemeryuk was quoted as saying by the state news agency Tass.
India cuts off internet near Delhi as farmers begin hunger strike (AP) India blocked mobile internet services in several areas surrounding New Delhi on Saturday as protesting farmers began a one-day hunger strike after a week of clashes with authorities that left one dead and hundreds injured. Angry at new agricultural laws that they say benefit large private buyers at the expense of producers, tens of thousands of farmers have been camped at protest sites on the outskirts of the capital for over two months. A planned tractor parade on Tuesday’s Republic Day anniversary turned violent when some protesters deviated from pre-agreed routes, tore down barricades and clashed with police, who used tear gas to try and restrain them. Sporadic clashes between protesters, police and groups shouting anti-farmer slogans have broken out on multiple occasions since then. Farm leaders said Saturday’s hunger strike, to coincide with the death anniversary of Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi, would show Indians that the protesters were overwhelmingly peaceful. India’s interior ministry said on Saturday internet services at three locations on the outskirts of New Delhi where protests are occurring had been suspended until 11 p.m. (1730 GMT) on Sunday to “maintain public safety”. Indian authorities often block internet services when they believe there will be unrest, although the move is unusual in the capital.
China to stop recognizing special U.K. passports for Hong Kongers as Britain opens door (Washington Post) China on Friday accused Britain of turning Hong Kong residents into “second-rate” citizens as the country prepares to welcome tens of thousands of people fleeing Beijing’s crackdown in the Asian financial center. In a gesture set to inflame tensions between China and the United Kingdom, Beijing said that starting Sunday it would no longer recognize British National (Overseas), or BN(O) passports—a type of British nationality granted to residents of the former colony born before its 1997 handover to Chinese control. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian responded by saying China would no longer recognize the BN(O) as a travel document or proof of identification—a step it has been threatening for months. In a statement following Zhao’s comments, the Hong Kong government said the BN(O) passports, as of Jan. 31, cannot be used for immigration clearance and will not be recognized as a valid document in the territory. While the comments were among China’s harshest against Britain, it was unclear how much effect the change would have or whether it could be used to stop Hong Kong residents from fleeing. Residents can leave Hong Kong with a government-issued identity card or Hong Kong passport and later use the BN(O) document to enter the United Kingdom.
More than 200,000 flee ‘apocalyptic’ conflict in Central African Republic (Reuters) More than 200,000 people have fled fighting in the Central African Republic (CAR) since violence erupted over a December election result, the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) said on Friday, with nearly half crossing into the Democratic Republic of Congo. The CAR army, backed by U.N., Russian and Rwandan troops, has been battling rebels seeking to overturn a Dec. 27 vote in which President Faustin-Archange Touadera was declared the winner. The nation of nearly five million people, larger than mainland France, Belgium and Luxemburg combined and rich in diamonds, timber and gold, has struggled to find stability since a 2013 rebellion ousted former president Francois Bozize.

Political Economy and Economic Development Under Aquino and Duterte Administration
Tumblr media
The Philippines is known as a mixed economic system. It has different private freedom, and with the government regulation and centralized economic planning. Many of the Presidents have reigned the Philippines and made such huge impact to the country’s growth. Over everything else, the President symbolizes the country – its people. With different leadership styles, they have ruled over country for its greater good.
This entry will discuss the political economy and economic development of the former President Aquino III and the current President Duterte. We will be focusing on the different contributions by these presidents with regards to human development index, purchasing power of the citizens, and support for entrepreneurship and innovation.
 Benigno S. Aquino III (2010-2016)
Tumblr media
During the term of the second Aquino as the President of Philippines, he took pride in his vision of “Daang Matuwid” (Straight Plan). Thus, Aquino took an administration, as much as possible, that’s from free corruption. Under the Aquino administration, he gave importance for the improvement of the Filipino’s quality of life, particularly the vulnerable and poor.
With regards to Human Development Index (HDI), investing for Filipino people has been the foundation of the Aquino administration’s inclusive growth agenda. Increasing access to the quality of health care: upgrading health care facilities, providing free vaccination to children, and improving financial protection in health care sots. President Aquino signed RA 10606 (An Act Amending the National Health Insurance Act of 1995), on June 19, 2013. This will prioritize the health care needs of all underprivileged, sick, elderly, PWDs, women, and children. On the year 2013, also, Aquino had implemented the K to 12 Basic Education Program. This is to ensure the basic education graduates’ readiness for tertiary education and give preparation for career options. Furthermore, social services has as increase share of national budget. The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program gives financial support to poor household that is in compliance with human capital formation interventions in education and health.
For the purchasing power of the Filipino citizens, according to Undersecretary Gil S. Beltran, in January 2011, the inflation went to 4 percent that it took three months before it was brought down to 3 percent in February 12. However, under the Presidency of Aquino, the Philippines was also considered as one of the fastest growing economies. The annual real GDP growth is in average of 450 percent since 2000. This is because of strong domestic economic policies and the aftermath of fast growth of Chinese economy, according to Emmanuel Dotong, Doctor of Business Administration.
Aquino III mentioned in the APEC on 2015, there are over 97 percent of SMEs that generate employment in more than 50 percent. The priority of the Apec 2015 are the implementation of Magna Carta for MSMEs, Access of Small Enterprises to Sound Lending Opportunities (Asenso) that has allocated billions of funds to enterprises from 201 to 2014, formation of common production centers or Shared Service Facilities (SSF).
Rodrigo R. Duterte (2016 – present)
Tumblr media
Rodrigo Roa Duterte, different from his predecessors, became popular and well-loved by the Filipino people because of his frankness as a leader. The people refer him as “President DU30”. The president is leading is presidency as free from corruption, in which he promised to fire people that are involved in it. The Duterte Administration’s campaign for illegal drugs has been a controversy, yet he still has shown determination on his commitment to his purpose and vision – “Change Coming”.
President Duterte’s focus on Human Development Index (HDI) is through the improvements of living conditions and well-being of the people in line with the life expectancy, per capita income indicators, and education. On August 3, 2017, the President signed a bill granting free tuition in public tertiary and vocational schools for over a million of students nationwide. Also, the Universal Healthcare Act in was signed into law by the President. This will enroll all Filipino citizen automatically into National Health Insurance Program and PhilHealth that can guarantee equal access to quality and affordable healthcare services including medical consultations and laboratory tests.
President Duterte has signed into law the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN), which provides cuts for almost all of the Filipino taxpayers while increasing the budget to fund other newly approved legislations. By reducing 99 percent of the personal income taxes, the taxpayers are given much relief of non-adjustments of tax rates and brackets for 20 years. The president has promised for the increase of salary for public school teachers and members of Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police.
Amid this corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, the President Rodrigo Duterte assured the micro, small and medium enterprises, farmers, and fishermen of assistance from the government. The President said in the televised public address aired on March 30, 2020 a recovery package, especially MSMEs, will be provided to help deal the pandemic’s economic effects. The government will also ensure the food productivity, sufficiency, and availability for the farmers and fisher folks during this period of pandemic.
Tumblr media
From the two Presidents mentioned above, personally, I can say that the Duterte Administration has more economic development. Allow me to give praise and support of our current President Rodrigo Duterte that despite of all criticisms and unfair judgments of his presidency, he still managed to use those things thrown to him as a way to deepen and strengthen his Administration to support and provide for the Filipino people. The implementation of K to 12, a preparation for tertiary education, is actually beneficial. However, free tuition is better since it catered millions of students. President Duterte also gave more focus on MSMEs and poor livelihood during in this difficulties, like the pandemic. Indeed, both of the Administration has made impacts to the Philippines’ economic growth with different approach to the given circumstances and challenges. Since the presidency of Aquino III has passed, I’m hoping for more improvements and implementations to the President Duterte’s remaining years of term.
