Mages age significantly slower compared to humans, the average mage lives for centuries

A discipline is a method of using singing magic, it's like how there's different martial arts with different philosophies attached to them but they're still forms of fighting

Anyone can become a mage, you can also learn multiple disciplines. it's not taboo or anything but people tend to stick to just one or two disciplines they like

Some background on the three major disciplines:

Vocaloid: Leon and Lola weren't the first ones to use music magic, but it's existence had been little known and only in experiments to see if it's even possible, they, a passionate scientist couple would be the first to fully and properly create a magic discipline that would go on to become very popular, the MOST popular magic discipline, the vocaloid discipline

Utau: some people yearned to learn magic but didn't have the funds to get into magic school, so defoko, who not only thought it was unfair to gatekeep magic and knowledge like this but was somewhat interesting in creating a discipline of her own, reversed engineered the vocaloid discipline and made it her own, then made it so that the learning resources for it are completely free no matter what. It's often the first discipline people learn and has a large community, unlike most other disciplines which update themselves upon new discoveries, the utau discipline has largely stayed the same.

Synthv: the discipline is the newest of the three major disciplines, but despite this, it's on track to usurping the vocaloid discipline's throne in terms of popular, this is because it's any extremely innovative and refined discipline, creating new methods of using music magic other disciplines would end up adopting. Despite how popular it is it's extremely hard to become a synthv mage because unlike other disciplines that are publicly available or can be learnt in a school, saki, the creator of the discipline, has to personally approve you for training then which her and her successor Eleanor will personally teach you one on one.
