I enjoyed Saints Row (2022), damn it. I was devastated that Volition closed.

In an alternate universe where Stillwater Boss is betrayed by another and leaves Stilwater with friends like Carlos and Troy to Santo Ileso. There (former) Boss Annie starts a new life working at the museum downtown and selling forgeries on the side. She finds herself getting closer to the Boss of the Santo Ileso Saints and her crew starts hanging out with his. One night, after Carlos accompanied Annie to a Gala at the recently reopened museum, they go to the Mission where the crew is hanging out.

“Yo, Carlos, looking sharp,” Kevin winks.

“Heh, I can’t wait to get his penguin suit off,” Carlos said. He was opening the stiff collar and kicking off his dress shoes, “Still a shame they didn’t play any good music. Would have loved to dance this evening.

Carlos touched his belt and wiggled his hips, a playful smile appearing.

“We could do that now,” Kevin was already tapping away at his phone. Over the Church sound system Salsa music started playing, “this your speed?”

Carlos raised an eyebrow, “yeah?”

Kevin moved in and took Carlos at the small of his back and they started to move.

The rest of the crews watched on with grins. Then Joe held out a hand to Annie and swept her onto the floor as well.

Saints Row being Saints Row ⚜

I recently finished playing all the DLC for Saints Row 2022, then went back to play a bit of Saints Row 2 and 3. Boy, this is a game series that went on quite a journey (and it seems like there won't ever be another one).

So the first Saints Row, which I think is only playable on XBox, started as a somewhat serious game about gang war. Saints Row 2 introduced more whacky side-stuff, and the gangs start being more like the gangs in Batman, or the movie The Warriors - all very dedicated to their brand. But still maintains a mostly serious tone through the main storyline.

Saints Row The Third, perhaps to distinguish itself from GTA, leaned far more heavily into whacky over the top cartoonish antics. And Burt Reynolds is the mayor, so... yeah. But still it maintained the core gameplay of leading your gang to take over the city and, you know, do crime stuff. But there was one DLC where you briefly gained superpowers, and for Saints Row 4 they decided to make that the entire game. Also, you become the President and there's an alien invasion. And in the next one you're in hell. So, yeah - from modest beginnings, this series sure went places.

Then with Saints Row 2022 it seems like they wanted to roll it back to between 2 and 3. And there are things I like in this game. The city, Santa Illeso, seems like there was a lot thought put into its design and history - so much so that you get XP for learning about it. But it doesn't quite recapture the previous games for me. You start with a group of friends; Kev, who reads to orphans; Neenah, who is into art and cars; and Eli, who likes business and LARPing. They're all so... nice. And that's a problem - they're supposed to be ultra-violent criminals . It seems like this game was afraid to show the protagonists ever doing anything really nasty or villainous, but in previous titles 'the boss' is a bad guy and a lot of the problems they have are caused by their massive ego.

I'd have, again, looked at something like Batman and imagined playing as a cartoonish villain in that kind of comic book world. Dealing with vigilantes coming after you and your gang could have been part of the story or a series of side-quests... but I guess it doesn't matter now. This series is unlikely to be coming back.

New Saints Row time! I’m not sure how well ‘struggling twentysomething is always supportive of his three roommates and his orange cat Snickerdoodle’ fits in with ‘nigh-unkillable gun-frenzied war-whooping ex-military murder machine’, but Saints Row has always been ridiculous, so I’m willing to play along.

I’m mostly enjoying it. On the positive side, it’s a lot of fun, especially the whole LARP storyline, which is just pure joy to play through; on the negative side, the game is a bug- and glitch-riddled mess and not even the fun kind.

I demand you admire the Boss’ elaborate flame-colored dye job (whole evenings of watching telenovelas with Kev while wearing a plastic showercap) and I especially demand you admire his amazing laserwolf van.

I love saints row (2022) where the literal first mission ends with your character listening to their three best friends in the world who left you messages about how proud they are and how they're excited to hear about it and that kev is making brunch. I love how kevin the DJ never wears a shirt but wears a helmet that looks like a kitty cat with pink eyes. I love that when neenah has to pick you up in a risky getaway in her most beloved possession, she says she'd do anything for you and your roommates. I love that they all kiss, passionately, in a 4-way polycule most could only dream of,

finally started playing the saints row reboot and holy shit its good. it got all these bad reviews like "it doesnt play like a modern game" and "it has all these janky controls" and like yeah man thats just a saints row game

like saints row 2 is one of my fave games of all time. i only got a little way into 3 before i gave up cause it was just too silly. 2 struck a great balance between a serious gang story and having goofy fun but 3 and 4 just went way off the rails into silly. the reboot feels like 2

the reboot really strikes that balance that 2 had. i cant stop playing it. ive put in like at least 16 hours over the last two days

my boss is a hot murderous cyberbimbo. my friend kev is bi. my boy eli is a nerdy larper. my girl neenah is a dope mechanic and driver. i get to customize my gang and my hq. i get to customize my cars thanks to jimrob. the driving is fun. the shooting and fighting is fun. u can be a hot tran with huge tits a huge ass a huge dick quadruple amputee and a beard.

i mran what is not to love about this game? its everything i always loved about the franchise. its just too bad volition got shut down cause it sell millions of copies
