The hearthead was the second species I ever submitted to the Sagan 4 Alpha timeline, and accompanied the opportunity shrew as a sauceback which evolved in reaction to it. Hearthead's defining characteristic is the presence of photoreceptors inside the scent pits, allowing for some limited vision. Though the hearthead is not considered a true ornithere (avian/bird-like sauceback), in addition to its eyes it already has a number of other characteristics which would later be common to ornitherian saucebacks, such as aerodynamic feathers sporting just a single unbranching rachis (most other neodromeodonts have branching rachises) and ornithere-like skull and jaw morphology (which gives it its characteristic heart-shaped head).
Side note, the reason for the skull morphology was because I had made something up before we actually knew how sauceback jaws worked, and it turned out to be plausible anyway because hearthead already evolved from a sauceback with an unusually strong bite force. With that in mind, I wonder what non-hearthead harnessback jaw muscles are doing. I would imagine they'd probably already have a transitional form going on where the muscles which flex the jaws up and down in other saucebacks are instead being used to stabilize them for pinching, as that's actually the set of muscles that became the biting ones in hearthead--something they accomplished by moving the attachments closer to the center plane (which would probably result in greater and greater stability as well) and developing upper and lower sagittal crests.
Not that any of that makes sense if you've never examined the sauceback musculoskeletal diagrams. (hey @evolution-incarnate you drew the bones, do my musings about muscles and skull morphology seem sound?)

I've been adding more random species displays to the Sagan 4 wiki to make it increasingly easy to find stuff to evolve from, and recently I added random selections of each major living group of sauceback to the sauceback page...

...and it basically just looks like this every single time
