Another work scribble, but this time it's a different sad Horse-man

thinking about that one scene in „the view from halfway down“ where sarah lynn has her monologue about sacrificing her whole life and beatrice is her usual cynical self going „please u died in a hedonistic bender“ and… idk when sarah lynn clarifies that she’s not talking about her death but her life… i just can’t help but wonder if deep down beatrice wanted to see herself in that statement… like yeah she was a shit mom and stuff but she also gave up her life for a completely different future (a future she didn’t plan on having and that didn’t fit her academic aspirations (just like sarah lynn)) i mean we all know how much she regretted that decision. god sometimes i just wish i could have a whole bonus episode just for beatrice‘s inner emotional life. like there are a few moments where she sort of let’s us see that there’s a part of her that cares. that is vulnerable. ughhh it just reminds me of the whole henrietta debacle with the „trust me you don’t want this“ like her cruelty comes from a twisted wish for things to be different. from regret. she’s just such an interesting character bc i kinda get the feeling that whenever she mistreats the people around her it is directed towards herself as well. a deep self hatred that is covered up in ego. same for bojack. fuck i love this show sm.

Yeah, there's this trend I see online, where a piece of media being dark, or handling serious subject matter, or making you feel sad must mean it is depressing with a depressing message, or even more egregious, that it's pessimistic. It's this conflation of emotional impact of the most intense moments of the show, and the overall messaging of the show. If BoJack had ended on "The View from Halfway Down", and if it didn't have the arcs of Princess Carolyn or Diane or Todd, and if it missed the Rehab arc, then maybe, _maybe_ you could make a case for the show being depressing. But as is? It's a show that explored super heavy topics, so yeah, no shit, it's sometimes sad to watch; but it approached them through an empathetic lens. It didn't give you "you can fix all the shit you've ever done" because you *can't*, but it did give you "you can always do better and that matters". It acknowledged shittiness, and talked about all the ways you can handle it. That's the opposite of depressing!! That's fundamentally optimistic and caring!!! It points at what sucks and says "despite all of that being there, things can and do get better". That's not fucking pessimism.

When BoJack Horseman (2014-2020) said "you can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it ok. you need to be better" and "all we have are the connections we make" and "I really should've thought about the view from halfway down" and "sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own happiness" and "you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, you turn yourself around, THAT'S what it's all about" and "things have to get worse before they can get better" and "in real life, the big gesture isn't enough, you need to be consistent" and "if we hadn't met each other until now, we wouldn't be the people we are now" and, my personal favourite, "every day it gets a little easier, but you gotta do it every day, that's the hard part, but it does get easier".

full on feel like pjo tv s2 is not gonna hold up so they need to drag as much attention to the series as they can by using nico as a sock puppet w tsats2

im fully expecting the show to go the way of the movies. it doesnt help Sea of Monsters is almost unanimously the least favorite book of the first series. People frequently forget it even exists or what happens in it, especially more casual fans.

Heck, just look at how little fanfare the second season has gotten so far as compared to the build up to s1. I wouldn't be surprised if s2 totally flops. It would be a little funny.

It’s crazy how expendable all the crew members were to the Pony Express.

A 30% chance that your shipment would be lost. Cargo and crew are inseparable if we are to believe the shitty layout of the Tulpar. People use it because it’s cheap. The labor is cheap. The lives are cheap.

They are all relatively easy to forget about. It’s implied Anya and Curly don’t have many friends or much family to be concerned about them back home. She mentions nothing and no one to fall back on and he feels like wasted his life with the company. Jimmy probably only has Curly, otherwise people wouldn’t care or ask. Of course Daisuke and Swansea have family’s but Swansea thinks poorly of his and Daisuke’s poorly of him. All people in the companies eyes that wouldn’t stir up too much trouble if they became part of the 30%.

It makes it so much sadder because that ladder they were climbing was so small and shitty. There were rungs, ranks, but even the highest was barely off the ground. Jimmy wanted to reach the top of something that was brutally cut off and knocked everyone else off just to not see it.

I watched the season finale of RoP and omg I cannot tell you how much I teared up when they showed the dog at the end!!

Throughout the destruction of Eregion they kept showing the dog and i was like "whelp that guys prbly toast"

And they weren't!! They lived!!

went to the state fair yesterday and tried so so much good food !!! my favorite things were the pickle lemonade (literally my favorite drink ever since i first tried it a couple weeks ago) and the fried pickles and the roasted corn. feeling like a true midwesterner after that :-)
