I sent you an ask a few days ago but ugh Tumblr never makes you sure the ask arrives (if this is the second ask you receive from me please just pretend I never wrote to you). This is my Franky best (worst) theory and I wanted to share it with you: do you think that some scientist would be interested in Franky's body to start a new line of the pacifistas? We've seen many scientist/carpenteer characters stunned by Franky's body. Do you think he might be in danger if somebody gets his hands on him?

franky’s cybernetics hold an interesting place in this story because they’re so unique. all other powers (devil fruits, martial arts, even conqueror’s haki and will of d) have at least several users, but cyborgs? there are only two. hell, there are only three people involved in cybernetics at all -  kuma, vegapunk, and franky. 

(kuma and vegapunk are also interesting foils to franky. they have similar abilities, but kuma and vegapunk are both trapped by the government while franky is free)

so yes, i think people would be interested in his cybernetics AND i think franky is in danger from one group in particular - the government. the only other people involved in cybernetics are both under the government’s control. and now there’s this new cyborg running around, who is obviously using vegapunk’s ideas (the lasers, in particular, have been noticed by other characters) and is defying the government as a pirate.

i don’t think the world government would be too pleased with either of those things. so they have a vested interest in specifically capturing franky. they don’t want someone else to have access to (what they consider) their technology. 

which leads me to the really angst-y part of this: the government would want to use franky’s tech. after all, this guy is on par with vegapunk when it comes to smarts and abilities. and, well. kuma and vegapunk both used to oppose the government, as a revolutionary and pirates, respectfully, so that’s certainly not a hurdle to the government. 

so, if the government did manage to capture franky, they would have vegapunk do to him the same thing that vegapunk did to kuma, and completely remove his free will so that the government could use franky as a weapon.

just...imagine the angst. the straw hats being forced to fight each other is already painfully enough as is, but like. 

this would be the worst possible thing that could happen to franky. 

a big theme of his backstory and early character arc is guilt over the thing he’s built being used to hurt his loved ones. so being used as a weapon to hurt his friends would bring all that old trauma back and make it 10x worse

that’s why this is something that i want to happen, and also think is likely to happen. it’s emotionally devastating, thematically appropriate, and could wrap up the mysterious of two long-running characters.

Do you know why Tashigi's marine coat is pink instead of white?

I don’t think it was ever mentioned by anyone in the story or by Oda himself, so I can only share my personal thoughts.

In my opinion it’s just a design choice to make her stand out more. When she was introduced after the timeskip, she was referred to as “the only flower in filthy G5” or something like that, hence the choice of pink because it’s girly/cute/delicate– like a flower. Also pink is not too far from the standard white so it’s not like it’s a totally wild choice. And apparently high-ranking Marines can wear what the hell they want so it’s acceptable story-wise too.

I have sometimes joked with @s-fishrain​ that Oda made her the “Disney princess” of the Marines. This kinda sums up what sort of image I think he’s trying to convey with the pink coat.

Personally I’m not a big fan of the pink coat because I don’t really dig the whole “girly” makeover Oda gave her post timeskip, that includes the coat but also the bigger boobs, longer hair, the other pink accessories etc. I preferred her blue/red/yellow color scheme from pre-timeskip and her more tomboyish design. I’m curious to see if the next time she shows up she’ll be wearing something different since she did change outfit after Dressrosa (though the coat is probably gonna stay).

When Franky stepped outside his head felt light. Everything seemed too much. He looked around and saw Robin sitting on the deck, playing with the kids and some more paces away Brook, strumming a really cool looking guitar.

He walked up to the larger group, wanting to talk to Robin because this was clearly some ruse. He didn‘t understood how and why but it had to be her fault. Yeah! With an angry face he almost ran the last steps.

But when he stood in front of the group, the kids were looking up at him with questioning eyes and when he saw the shock and fear in Robins face, because she knew that he was going to leash out at her, he stopped. No. No this wasn‘t…

Wow, this sounds weird out of context. It’s the fourth chapter WIP of “It’s great to be young” Of course it’s Frobin!

Hey sorry to bother again, bother is what I do best. I just left my bed after a long sleepless night because I randomly found out Franky is the only character to whom they added a second least favorite food in vivre card no. 0008: "Curry cooked by people he doesn't trust"... why add something so stupid and irrelevant yet far too specific as if Oda either some day either woke up with a new angsty idea in mind or simply loose a bet with the editors and needed to add a stupid detail (1/2)

OH MAN THAT IS SUPER CONCERNING

this has got to be significant, it’s too specific yet vague to not be. if it wasn’t important, it’d just be curry, which would make sense since iceburg likes curry, and their relationship is such that i can see young franky hating something just because iceburg likes it. but it’s also so vague, like - who is ‘others’? who doesn’t franky trust? why curry of all things? that’s all prime material that could be explored later.

plus, this phrasing is unique. if you look at the other straw hats’ least favorite food, it’s just the food with a brief reason why. like franky’s other least favorite food is marshmallows, because it’s not hard. and this phrasing does not follow that model.

 the only other one that also doesn’t follow that model is luffy, who hates a “certain shop’s cherry pie”, which is clearly a reference to the cherry pie that blackbeard had when the two first met. the sbs didn’t give the reason why, but the answer was in the text, so maybe (hopefully), this will also get a in-text explanation.

but, the fact that this was revealed in the vivre card databook is odd. like, the sbs-es are written by oda and published along with the manga so revealing potentially important info there makes sense. but the databook is a separate thing all together, and it doesn’t really make sense to reveal important info there first. this whole thing is just weird.

but this phrasing definitely makes me think that there’s a specific event behind this, and that event was probably traumatic in some way. the real question is where does this fall? is this a recent development or something he’s dislike since he was a kid (aka something he got from his parents)? if it’s recent, is it something that happened over that four year period between franky getting hit by the train and returning to water 7 as a cyborg? or was it during the 2-year timeskip while franky was in vegapunk’s old lab? 

wow. it’s amazing how much one little line about franky not liking curry can make me question everything. but one piece has a long history of minor details coming back in a major way (just look at sanji’s second backstory). 

but hoo boy, do i want this to be something more (*chanting* franky arc franky arc franky arc)

Franky was literally THIS CLOSE joining the Pirate King's crew. It didn't happen solely because he refused. LATER IN HIS LIFE HE ENDED UP IN THE FUTURE PIRATE KING'S CREW. What is he? Seriously, the man of Destiny?? Laugh Tale is sending vibes to the entire Universe because IT WANTS FRANKY TO WALK ON ITS SHORE SO BAD. Robin was sent by the Heavens to grab his balls so he could stop refusing Pirate Kings offers. Can't believe just how SUPER this man is.

I KNOW RIGHT??? that’s not even mentioning the fact that franky is the only straw hat to have sailed, as a pirate, when roger was at his peak. you could totally make an au where franky met and joined roger on the high seas (which i may or may not be guilty of doing). 

BUT ALSO, it took so much for franky to even join luffy. like, the straw hats had to get robin back, franky had to build their ship, franky had to be labeled as a pirate, all of franky’s friends and family had to tell him ‘you need to go pursue your dream’, iceburg had to verbally forgive franky, and franky had to forgive himself. and all that needed to happen before garp showed up to chase them off. if even one of those thing hadn’t happened, franky probably wouldn’t have joined. like, yeesh, the universe really must’ve wanted him to get on that ship. 

and there are just....so many things that make franky important, plot-wise. like, obviously, he built the future pirate king’s ship. but, now that the blueprints are destroyed, he, and possibly iceburg, are the only ones that could remember what pluton looks like and could potentially build it. and franky rivals vegapunk, one of the greatest scientist in the world, in intellect and ability. and he’s the only other full cyborg in the world besides kuma. like...that’s a lot. 

and all of this just makes me hope that franky gets more focus in the future and that this will all get explored.

Do you ever think about that bitch Spandam waiting for Tom to wake up in Enies Lobby only to tell him "You know that Cutty Flam from your company? We run over him with the sea train ahah" and then have him killed, because I do, a lot- Tom loved and cared for Franky too much to stand something like this (I know you mentioned no corpse no death before but boy- a fishman in the government's hands can either die or be brought to MaryGeoise as a slave.. whatever happened musn't have been nice at all)

yeah....tom, like most backstory parents, is just real tragic situation. like these are our options:

he died alone and guilty, thinking that one of his beloved apprentices got killed trying to rescue him and that his family had gotten torn apart

he was kept alive by spandam’s desperation to find the weapon, imprisoned in impel down and tortured for information

he has suffered a fate worse than death in Mary Geoise

none of these are good options. and while i would like for him to be alive, the things he would be going through honestly make the death the best alternative.

... so--- since you don't seem to hate my asks (and I totally love bothering people with Franky stuff) here's another question: what is your view on the Franky vs Senor Pink fight? As for me I LOVED every single part of it but I noticed a lot of people have different feelings about it, especially about the Kyuin kiss part where I saw many people complaining about Franky disrespecting women, which is untrue? I mean, we rarely see him thirst over women unlike SANJI, Usopp or Brook -> (1/2)

i actually have some conflicting opinions on this fight. 

overall, i really like it! it’s super ridiculous and funny, the connection that franky and senor pink form is great, and the empathy franky has for his opponent is just *chef’s kiss*. it’s wasn’t a very serious fight and im sure that alone turned some folks off, but i’ve always like weird fights. and the ending, especially, is so god-damn good, and i love it a lot.

but…the kiss. i do not like the kiss. 

that whole idea of ‘man kissing a women to shut her up’ is just…really creepy n sexist and i hate that my favorite character did it. but it’s also just so out of character for franky, cuz he does not have a history of that type of behavior. as you mentioned, he’s usually very respectful of women and their abilities. and even when he is disrespectful, it’s usually in a ‘rebellious teen’ way than a sexist way (see kokoro). 

but also, the reason that franky kisses her to begin with is to prove that he’s “hard-boiled”. and franky’s NOT hard-boiled.

for anyone that doesn’t know, ‘hard-boiled’ is a type of crime/noir fiction that often has stoic, cynical and morally-corrupt protagonists. that’s the type of character that senor pink is based off of, and that’s why he acts like he does (minus the whole baby thing, tho the contrast certainly adds to the joke). 

but, well, those types of stories were popular in the 30s-50s, so the male protagonists weren’t alway….respectful of the women they were involved with (to say the least). and that’s why senor pink treats his fans the way he does, and why franky kisses kyuin. i dont agree with it and don’t really think it needed to be included, but there’s a reason for it, at least. 

but again, franky’s not hard-boiled. he’s kind of the opposite, actually. he’s incredibly emotional, and cries at the drop of a hat. he cares deeply and openly about people (esp post-ts). he’s loud and flamboyant and proud of that. 

franky’s not hard-boiled, and the kiss and the reasons behind just flat out don’t make sense. 

honestly, i kinda wish the fight had played into the idea of franky and senor pink having opposing personalities but similar core values (re: atonement). hell, just two opposing ideas of manliness being pit against each other could have been really interesting! but alas. 

so i dont put that much stock into the kiss. oda doesn’t make the best decision when it comes to his female characters and how people interact with them. even LUFFY has had a moment like that, and it was so out of character that oda later had to retcon it. so…yeah. 

but other than that, i do still like this fight. i mean, it’s a franky fight, of course i love it. plus, it’s got some of my favorite franky panels of all time:

No, I-I'm not a creepy stalker--- I just wanted to see if anyone ever asked you the most important ask of them all and it's a crime no one ever did, so: how did you fall in love with Franky? Was it love at first sight or is there a particular scene that caught your heart? SO, i was late to the one piece game. i didn’t actually sit down and read the darn thing until just a couple of years ago, but i had dipped in and out of the fandom before then. so i knew most of the major stuff before i started, including who joined the crew, tho i only knew their names and appearances. based solely on that, i thought brook would be my favorite. a tall, fancy skeleton is very much my type of character. 

but franky blindsided me. i knew nothing about him outside of his appearance. so, when he first showed up in that mask, i was baffled. this didn’t look like franky at all! plus, i did not know that franky started out as an enemy to the straw hats. beating up usopp was pretty serious and i was like, how on earth are they going to become friends after this??

plus, i was really caught up in the whole luffy v usopp thing. i had know about that and had been dreading it for awhile, so i was a little preoccupied with that. so i didn’t really care about whoever this franky guy was (at that moment). 

but then....then franky showed up on that roof singing and dancing in nothing but a ridiculous shirt and a speedo, doing his signature pose and just generally being a giant doofus, and i knew i was done for.

i even have the moment saved for posterity: 

and that arc just kept sucker punching me with moment after moment that just made me love him more and by end, then i had my Favorite™

Did you read the Mugiwara Stories novel? Franky's tale there is super adorable!!

i’ve read a translated summary of it (x), and it is super cute!! just the fact that franky managed to bring such to a random stranger from miles away is just *clenches fist* so good......

and i also find it hilarious that franky, this super infamous pirate, keeps showing up on the covers of these magazines. and they interviewed him! and he wrote a story for them!! it’s so ridiculous but also so franky, i love it

also also, franky is considered the “hottest hentai” and honestly? it’s what he deserves.
