Best Underrated Anime Group A Round 2: #A1 vs #A2
#A1: Teens with special powers seek & protect other unique teens.
#A2: Girls do DIY together, but after a new industrial revolution
Titles, summary, trailers, propaganda, and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#A1: Charlotte
youtube
Summary:
Yuu Otosaka has the ability take over a person’s mind and body for five seconds at a time, allowing him to cheat his way to the top of his class and enter a prestigious high school, where he continues his dishonest acts. His shenanigans are eventually stopped by Nao Tomori, the headstrong student council president from Hoshinoumi Academy, who sees through his deceit. Through coercion, Nao convinces Yuu to transfer to Hoshinoumi and join the student council.
With Yuu begrudgingly assisting in council affairs, the group sets out to find and protect new ability users from harm. However, as they further investigate the abilities, their findings entangle them in far more complicated matters than they could ever imagine.
Propaganda:
I would encourage anyone who enjoys shows that make you think to check this one out! Due to things revealed near the end of the series, a second watch-through is well worth it to see the clues towards the ending and foreshadowing along the way. Consequential drawbacks for these special powers are included throughout the series. Plot-twists keep the audience hooked through it all. There is character growth as the main character changes and as hard choices come up later. It does take you on an emotional roller coaster from light-hearted humor to hitting you right in the feels. (I totally did not watch this anime just because my favorite voice actor is in it lol)
Trigger Warnings: Child Abuse, Child Death, Emotional Abuse, Flashing Lights, Gender Identity/Sexuality Discrimination, Graphic Depictions of Cruelty/Violence/Gore, Rape/Non-Con, Torture, Mutilation.
The non-con warning is for female characters unwillingly having their underwear publicly exposed.

#A2: Do it Yourself!!
youtube
Summary:
This series takes place after the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Serufu and her childhood friend Miku/“Purin” both applied to an elite school, where advanced technologies are incorporated into the curriculum. The tech-savvy Purin is accepted into the school, but accident-prone Serufu is rejected and enters a traditional school instead, driving a wedge into their friendship.
On her way to class one day, Serufu encounters Rei, who has a passion for old-fashioned crafts and is the head of the school’s Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Club—which is in danger of closing due to a lack of members. Realizing that this may be her chance to repair her relationship with Purin, Serufu joins the club in hopes of creating projects that could bring them together once more.
Propaganda:
It’s just a really feel-good series with some great characters. I adore all of them and their dynamics with each other, especially the main dynamic between Serufu and Purin as it develops. I’m a really big fan of the show’s angle on stuff such as do-it-yourself crafts following another industrial revolution, just because it does frequently bring up the question of “What’s the point of DIY if in a year or two/maybe even now a robot could recreate the exact same result?” through characters like Purin (who is the major character with the lowest opinion on these kinds of crafts at the start, since she’s in the technologically advanced school and has beliefs more in line with the efficacy of technology rather than the joy of human creation), with the short answer largely being because it’s just fun!
I first watched this show before I saw a lot of AI stuff intruding upon art and rewatching it after sure was fun, because I love its ideas on the worth of doing stuff that machinery could do much faster. It’s not super complex or emotional, but that largely goes in its favor, because it really doesn’t need to be those. It’s just a fun little anime about a bunch of girls having fun together through one shared hobby that some of them had from the start and some of them adopted. I also love the opening, and the ending is a massive comfort song for me. The series can also be very funny at points, and is usually super heartwarming.
Trigger Warnings: None.

Anime!Luke Triton [Professor Layton series] × Charlotte Bellview - LavenderSodaShipping
Also bonus QPP ship name time!

In Hinduism, the opening of the third eye is an awakening to enhanced knowledge and visualisation, and it generally entails wisdom. There is a clear inspiration of the third eye tribe and pudding from this, and this concept would make pudding the perfect 'guide' for Shirahoshi.
Also, we know that the WG have extensively hunted down every person who could be tied to an ancient weapon or anything related to the void century. This could be why big mom refers to the blood of the 3 eye tribe as rare, and draws further parallels between Pudding and shirahoshi
Tumblr media
Speaking of parallels, we can also draw further parallels with both characters, as inspiration can be seen for both of them, as they both have deep ties to characters who have been symbolised as devils, Luffy and sanji.

Hello,What do you think binding kiss means?Do you agree with what Absalom said to Nami at Thriller Bark Arc "With this binding kiss,we shall be sound together in matrimony”?If you disagree,I want to hear your explanation. In the end,do you think Budding kissed Sanji is equivalent to Absalom's concept of binding kiss?Recently, someone said to me that the kiss between Budding and Sanji which was a binding kiss.As soon as the kiss is completed,Sanji and Budding is couple, but I don’t think so.
I don't think any of those kisses can count as bindning when two parts (aka Nami and Sanji) were both not taking part in it and haf any agreement. The Purin kiss was also far after the wedding ceremony and it just doesn't work that way... 😅 I mean if people want to believe Sanji was married to Purin without consent and without memory of it I guess they can, but it wouldn't exactly make it a happy thing now would it?
Absalom is obviously even worse, but again, neither of those marriages were something they actually wanted so I don't see why the kiss would suddenly make it bindning or anything. 😅
Personally I just find it interesting Oda decided to make these paralells for SaNa and in regards to marriage and them both being there to save each other from it. It's also clear Sanji showed preference for Nami above Purin, even when Purin was present. In the current arc we also have Oda keep giving us SaNa moments he wouldn't have to draw. So all in all to answer your question I don't see why people think or would even want that kiss to be binding even if they ship SanPu. As for me I think Oda is giving us enough SaNa moments to not seem to particularly set on setting Sanji up with someone else. Thanks for the ask. 😚💕

A WIP of the kiss between sanji and Pudding. I hate / love pudding and it broke my heart to see her desperately sad in chapter 902. Sanji deserved that kiss. (although he will never remember it).

Sanji & Nami - When the rain stops
It’s time for SanNami week again! And though I know I haven’t done much here for a while I am still excited. The first theme is rain, and weather is something I have actually wanted to talk a about a little. It’s not just rain, but rain and other types of weather can bear a lot of symbolism, so that’s my topic for this small SanNami analysis.
Just something I noticed in WCI arc is how we once again get a focus on Nami and her weather abilities and Oda made a point of showing to us just how skilled she is. But, something else I found interesting is the possibility of Nami’s emotional state relating to the weather in a metaphorical way.
Of course this is something commonly used in storytelling, not the least in movies, where rain often starts to fall to add to a sorrowful mood. Here we see the rain reinforce the feeling of sorrow and despair that Sanji feels as his situation seems completely hopeless. It falls heavily, almost to the point of obscuring his face a little as it mixes with his tears.
Tumblr media
Likewise thunder is used as a foreboding sign of things to come. Or the sun coming out from behind the clouds being a sign of hope or for things to finally turn around. In short, weather is often used in storytelling to add to a mood.
Tumblr media
Personally I just wanted to point out a few examples in WCI where Oda used weather in relation to Sanji and Nami in particular.
First example I’ve already talked about a bit, which is when Nami’s thunder is used in the scene where Sanji agrees to marry Purin, which right away further shows the reader that this is not a good thing. It’s also interesting that Nami specifically is tied to this moment.
I’ve talked about it a bit before as a speculation in my review on chapter 845, but I just wanted to collect some further thoughts.
So in chapter 845 Sanji and Purin talks, which ends with Sanji agreeing to marry her. But simultaneously we have Luffy and Nami fighting, which in itself shows a disconnect and tells us that what Sanji and Purin is having is far from a happy or romantic moment.
Further on in that scene Oda uses a transition using thunder, Nami’s thunder as she fights, while Purin talks over the images.
Tumblr media
Oda shows Nami first, and has the line “I just met you...” to establish a difference between Nami and Purin, as well as showing a possibly metaphorical expression of Nami towards what is currently happening with Sanji.
It happens again, at the end of the chapter.
Tumblr media
Again, this is adding a ominous feeling that something isn’t right, while at the same time referencing Nami in a subtle way. Oda makes it even more clear when he addresses it in the very next chapter.
Tumblr media
With simple symbolism Oda has used the weather to tie Nami and Sanji’s situation together. He will later do this again, but then in the opposite way. This is in chapter 857.
Tumblr media
You have Sanji and Luffy already reconciled here, but Sanji is scared and ashamed to face Nami. He says this specifically, and Luffy makes a point to tell Sanji that he shouldn’t feel like this, because Nami and the others were the most concerned. Something Oda has also consistently shown throughout the arc and also back on Zou. We can tell this moment has a more solemn mood, which is enhanced by the quiet rain. Oda then has the next panel show the rain stopping. Even going as far as have Sanji react to it, and reach out his hand.
Tumblr media
And then it once again cuts over to Nami, this time as they try to find Luffy and Sanji. The fact that Oda didn’t put this moment with the rain stopping as Luffy forgave Sanji, but rather put in a conversation showing Sanji’s fear of facing Nami in particular is interesting. As I said, Oda has focused more on Nami than any other strawhat, besides Luffy, for Sanji’s rescue and it shows in this scene as well. It’s an early indicator of Nami’s blessing of Sanji returning, and a symbolic sign that things will be good again.
Tumblr media
Oda gives these two a specific moment, something he didn’t give anyone else so far (in Wano it seems they aren’t even going to adress or ask about Sanji leaving except them being happy he is back, I guess we’ll see with Zoro) which is natural considering her involvement in Sanji’s rescue as well as Sanji’s special concern about hurting Nami after the fight and slap scene.
Tumblr media
She acts rather tsundere about it, despite obviously being happy and then we truly have the end of this conflict. It ends with Nami’s forgiveness in a sense, and I think if it comes back it will only be with Zoro because of his particular relationship with Sanji. But otherwise this is a turning point where we finally see Sanji go back to being his normal self after leaving his crew on Zou. Nami has been a binding part in the storyline for Sanji’s situation from Zou up until this point, and also gets some focus when Sanji finally returns properly to Sunny.
They are reunited. And finally their storyarc is completed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting from Zou with a hug before they are separated, and then closing their story with another hug.
(Sorry, I strayed a bit from the theme there at the end... Man, I really need to make a full Zou + WCI analysis.)
But in short, Oda has a great sense of details and I personally feel the choices he has made with the weather are definitely there to make the message of the scenes even stronger. The panel of the rain stopping in particular is really a turning point in the WCI arc for Sanji personally. I love that Nami is able to control the weather to a certain extent, which also makes the way Oda used these scenes for Sanji and Nami even more interesting.
The rain could be a metaphor for both Sanji and Nami’s feelings, and it’s nice to see that when Oda chooses to show the rain stopping it almost feels like Nami showing forgiveness and Oda giving us the symbolical end of their sadness.
Of course this is just my own interpretation, but I personally really like these moments and how Oda made them have a greater impact through weather.
I hope you enjoyed this little story analysis. :) Thanks for reading, and have a fun SanNami week 2019!
