Sonya’s Timeline: The Archive
A collection of all of the major headcanon posts that delve into Sonya’s backstory: from the circumstances of her birth to joining the ranks of Celica’s group. Additionally, brief summaries of sections and the age estimation(with the Valentia calendar years!) is to help clarify what Sonya was doing at a specific time.
Part 1: Youth With Marla and Hestia(Birth to 9; Valentia Year 375-384): Sonya’s birth leads to the unfortunate splitting of her family, where Jedah sends off his daughters to live alone at a priory. Her older sisters took good care of her and they were happy. That was until Jedah returned with intent to sacrifice all of them to Duma, in which Marla and Hestia decided to spare their younger sibling of the fate, allowing her to escape to safety.
Part 2: Escaping Rigel(9 to 12; Valentia Year 384-387): At first, Sonya met Halycon and accepted his safety at his hamlet, where she lived for years and honed her magical ability. Worried of living so close to her traitorous father, Sonya escapes again south toward Zofia, where she is sure there would be no danger of Jedah and his followers.
Part 3: Zofian Blessing(12-23; Valentia Year 387-398): Having lived a rough life during her year on the run in Rigel, switching to Zofian life was miles better. It was much easier to manipulate people for her profit while staying safe with her exemplary magical skill. Loosely tied to the life of a thief, Sonya began to plan her plot of revenge on Jedah only to find the populated area she resided in to be abandoned after drought. Having nowhere else to travel, she had to take the offer Grieth gave her to become a subordinate.
Parts 4 and 5: Grieth’s Subordinate and Freedom(23-25; Valentia Year 398-401): Being the henchman of a greedy bandit proved to be despair-inducing, both in what she was forced to do as well as what she had to keep in. Only with Deen was she able to finally release the feelings of anger she held in while hiding in Zofia and even during her hamlet years. Luckily for her, Celica and friends arrived to end Grieth’s crimes, with Deen’s own sacrifice as an unfortunate setback.

So hey, a few needed updates.
No, this blog isn’t dead. There have just been several things that have been keeping me away. Real life, work being piled on me, constant negative moods...you get the idea.
I still should have all of my threads saved here, but I may or may not get to them based on my mood. That said, if I do decide to drop a thread, I will personally IM you to ask for permission and perhaps even plot out something else to do.
Along with replying to threads when I have the chance, I will be focusing on completing my Sonya Timeline headcanons, both to organize my thoughts on several topics surrounding her and to be a good reference for what Sonya has been through. I apologize in advance if there will be more OOC spam due to having more muse for them than threads, but I feel it is necessary if my writing mood doesn’t want to die every other week.
Finally, while not completed, I am working on a FE multimuse that will include Sonya as well as other characters. Yes, this means that this blog will become archived. However, since I don’t know the final date yet (expect it around when I finalize the timeline headcanons), that should not be an issue for current threads.

Just a few updates to throw around before I log off for the night:
I slightly updated my rules (might do that a bit more just to iron things out); nothing major, just saying I prefer to softblock if you’re going to unfollow, as I forgot to mention that at the start.
I am almost done with my second route of FE3H, and I will probably take a break to write here more before taking on my final one. It’s kind of a slog to go through after the first time...but I might post my further opinions later on if anyone’s actually interested (of course I don’t mind DMing about it either; I’m a gamur). I was going to make and expand on a 3H verse for Sonya, but that’ll have to wait until after I’m done working on Sonya’s main verse stuff.
Speaking of verses, along with an eventual 3H one, I am also planning on Hel verses, both for normal and witch Sonya, though the latter will probably see less interaction until further development. An Awakening one might also come into fruition after I replay Awakening, but we’ll see when the time comes. Either way, like I said before main verse stuff will be prioritized first, so expect more hc posts (I will balance them out with actual IC content though!)
Finally, I also updated my tiny Mun’s Schedule page for reference. Now it covers the bulk of the year, as well as mentioning possible sudden events. For instance, Thursday will definitely be a slow day due to IRL events. Of course I would usually have school for most of that day anyway, but this might blend into my evening time as well.
Sorry for the information dump, I just wanted to let it out while ensuring that actual content is still on this blog. I might even post a real starter call tomorrow/this weekend so look out for that!

Sonya’s Timeline: Youth with Marla and Hestia (Part 1?)
This will be a mini-series of headcanons (labelled with the respective tag “Sonya’s Timeline”) that will go into deeper detail regarding the events of Sonya’s life from her birth to her in-game recruitment in Gaiden/Echoes. Along with her own actions, the growth and emotions of others will be outlined in order to reflect on Sonya’s own development. To start, we will go into the circumstances of Sonya’s birth, why she and her sisters were required to stay at a priory, and what Sonya’s older sisters, Marla and Hestia, did while at the priory.
Sonya was born in the Valentian year of 367 as the youngest of three daughters. However, their mother suffered injuries from the birth of her third child, which would eventually lead to her death. While aware of these pains (which would make themselves apparent, especially during her final days), she saw them merely as trials from her god Duma for giving birth to many children. Their father Jedah, mainly relying on his wife to raise their children, was forced to bring them to a priory as he was unable to watch them by himself. Marla was 10 years old by the time of her mother’s death, while Hestia was 5. Sonya was only a few months old when she had to move into the priory.
Both of Sonya’s older sisters were deeply hurt by the death of their mother, while Sonya was too young to recall anything about her (or even their father). Because of this, Sonya often felt uncomfortable around them, especially when the topic of their mother was brought up. Even then, with Jedah away, her siblings were the only family she had left, so she had to try her best to make the three of them some kind of functioning family.
Marla, as the eldest, was affected the most by the loss of her mother. She was the one who could recall the kindness and beauty of the sisters’ mother with the most accuracy. Another detail she could clearly remember is her mother’s great devotion toward religion and Duma. And now with all of her free time in a priory, what else would be more fitting than studying the faith?
However, one other thing Marla must focus on as well is taking care of the new baby Sonya, being only months old. While the people at the priory are capable of looking after her, the eldest sister insists that she sets time away from her studies to let her younger sibling know that she is loved in her family. Juggling this and preparing for her coming of age (see Rigelian noble women) proves to be a challenge, but Marla succeeds once she turns 15. From there, she becomes a full-time devotee to the priory and begins working to make extra money for her family, knowing that the 5-year old Sonya will be safe without her. Even afterwards, she still does her best to spend time with Sonya, especially when the younger sibling would look for her first a majority of the time.
The middle sister, Hestia, was also gravely saddened by her mother’s leaving. What differs her reaction from Marla’s is that due to not spending as much time with their mother, Hestia’s mind wanders toward different issues. Such as the fact that Sonya’s birth was the closest connection to the death. Since she was just a young, hot-headed child, she was never able to think things through and ended up despising her younger sibling. What didn’t help was Marla’s focus toward caring for the new baby. In a way, she was also jealous of Sonya for getting the attention of the eldest sibling that used to love spending time with her instead.
When Sonya was old enough to stop being babysat, Hestia would finally let out her emotions by picking fights with her. Not physical fights, but instead verbal battles and arguments with words. Already uncomfortable with discussing the mother she never knew, it was easy for Sonya to be unable to fight back and even get to the verge of tears. Fortunately, Marla was never too far away to end the arguing before it could possibly escalate. Even with Hestia’s aggression, both her and Sonya still loved and cared for each other as sisters. They would never start a fight if their eldest sister was around, and Marla would remind Sonya that the three of them would always be connected as family.
While spending half of her priory life being cared for, Sonya gained a lot of knowledge and precious memories from the people she loved. While finding the idea of religion and devoting oneself to a higher being uninteresting, seeing Marla as a motherly figure that also prayed to the god helped her keep a positive opinion toward Duma. Of course, that would only be before she had to leave the priory...

Sonya’s Timeline: Subordinate Work
It didn’t take long for Sonya to realize that she got the short end of the stick on Grieth’s offer. Right away she felt different from the rest of his henchmen, being the only skilled mage of the group...as well as a woman. The charm that she used to lull men into giving her assistance turned into an annoyance when the thieves began to take an interest in her. Feeling left out might have been one of her lighter problems, however...
As a subordinate to the leader of the bandits, most of Sonya’s time went toward residing in the desert to protect Grieth, mostly near his hideout. Boredom was inevitable with only the desert winds and ugly thieves to pass the time. She would often try to stand away from the others, perhaps near a window, and reflect on everything that she had went through to get here. While boring, it still wasn’t the worst job she could of had.
Other times, Sonya would be required to go on village raids with a small group, ransacking any loot they found. She used to sneak her hands into the pockets of commoners to take their gold. Now she was using those hands to cast harmful magic, set to take the money by force. There was a reason why she never took interest in these activities while she traveled alone. The looks of terror on the innocents’ faces was too much for her to bear.
At the start, Sonya attempted to abstain from killing during raids as much as possible, instead sneaking and looting from houses, almost like she was hiding from her own kind. It was slow work, proven by how much more the others would collect than her. When Grieth noticed this, he immediately complained to her, threatening her position and home. Afterwards the mage had no choice but to fight, forced to obey her master like the obedient dog she had become. It was difficult to get used to the screams, especially when outside politics made it easy for Grieth’s men to raid piratically any village they desired.
Other times, the purple mage would have to go on single-man missions to assassinate a target, often a rouge member or some other rich fellow. These were slightly more comforting for her, as there was no one breathing behind her neck to command her. Often she’d just need to bring back proof that she went through with the job.
Still, something always felt off for Sonya. Previously, when she had to kill she knew it was for her survival and to eventually avenge her loved ones. Now it was to the benefit of this twisted man Grieth, who had no other plans than to continue his life of looting. Or rather, watching others do the looting for him.
Oh, why did she ever agree to help this fool?

Don’t have many ongoing threads anymore, so let’s try one of these out.
Like for a small (or.....long? depends on what I can think of and if I can restrain myself from raiding your DMs) starter from Sonya. Remember to specify the muse if you’re a multi. In addition (hopefully it isn’t too annoying), feel free to reply or DM if you want a specific verse. If not, then my defaults (which are also in my rules) are Celica-route SoV or Heroes for everyone else (I might try to push in Alm-route SoV, but only if the other writer is comfortable).

Sonya’s Timeline: Escape from Rigel
This headcanon outlines the route Sonya takes to escape from becoming a witch, starting from the age of 9. The young girl is able to escape from her father’s clutches at first, but gets more puzzled the longer she stays in Rigel. She believed the chance of Jedah capturing her was getting greater the more she resided in the same place, leading her to the final plan of heading south in order to enter Zofia.
First off, to make things easier to explain, here is a map of the Rigelian area (based off of Echoes):
Tumblr media
The priory that Sonya was left in from her birth to the age of 9 is located nearby Duma’s Tower (top-right building of the map). Right before she is sent off to the tower in order to be sacrificed and turned into a witch, her sisters set up a distraction, allowing for her to escape. Having no where else to go, Sonya follows the advice of her sisters: Go east to find the sage Halycon. While not very familiar with the man (did he ever visit her in the priory while she was a child?), she knew for certain he would not cast her off to become a witch.
With the only hint being to “go east,” Sonya ends up sneaking around through forests, hoping to never run into one of Duma’s followers or a member of Jedah’s group. It takes several days, but eventually Sonya makes it to the forests at the corner of Rigel, where she finds the sage. Halycon takes the tired and starved child back to his hamlet. As a safe residence that Jedah and his followers would be unable to find, Sonya was finally able to rest easy and even further hone the magical power she awoke to while at the priory.
...at first, at least. After two years, several thoughts prevented Sonya from sleeping at night. Her older sisters were still out there, either fighting against their father or worse. And all she could do was sit still in a hidden village, with no way to help. The girl got sick of it. There had to be something she could do...or somewhere she could go at the very least.
What also didn’t help was the lingering threat of Jedah while she was still on Rigelian soil. Yes, Halycon and other people residing in the hamlet kept reminding her that the place was protected from any follower of Duma. However, reason was not a strength for the 11-year old girl’s brain at that age. She always believed it was inevitable that Jedah would break in and, even worse, find Sonya and take her back. This irrational fear, combined with the desire for some extent of vengeance, was what pushed the young mage to run off once more, this time to the south toward Zofia where she believed her father would never find her.
It took Sonya quite a while to reach her eventual goal of escaping Rigel from the south-eastern corner. Already aware that this would be a much longer journey than the last, she tried to stock up on some provisions from the hamlet, but knew they wouldn’t last. She needed to hide in villages and towns, which was already a risk if she didn’t want to be seen. Unable to go to an inn, let alone afford one, Sonya had to sleep in slums and hidden corners, along with stealing food and money from others. By the time she reached the border, the girl had nearly perfect experience in pick-pocketing, acting as a sad, poor commoner at first until they turned their back on her, ending with a swoop! and a look of confusion on the victim as she ran into the shadows.
One instance that stood out was her “encounter” with the ancient witch Nuibaba. Already hearing more than enough stories and warnings from both the hamlet and villages, Sonya was no fool to not heed what she had heard. As cruel fate would have it, a woman who looked just as the rumors said was in Sonya’s way while she was traveling in a town near her goal. Just as she found a perfect victim to steal from, her eyes locked onto the witch right before her own eyes were on Sonya. Already aware of the trouble she’d get into if the witch saw the perfect target, the girl bolted toward the town’s exit, skipping a day of provision gathering in exchange for her life.
Crossing the border would mean a lot of things for Sonya, but at the moment it solely marked the beginning of a new life. No more was she restrained to the worry that Jedah would come and take her back. Now she was free to do whatever she wanted, all for the goal of revenge. But first.....she needed to find a way to support her new life. There was no reason to put effort into vengeance if she was too hungry to even put in that effort.

Write for what you believe in. Don’t let the bad, faulty criticisms of others get in the way of what you enjoy. Don’t agree with them? Fine, then just ignore them. But please, please, if you’re going to put them down, do it through proving them wrong instead of just building a mob mentality against them. With the latter, you might as well be proving their fears true.

A small headcanon to reflect the differences between self-casting magic and magic through tomes:
Magic in Valentia is required to be cast through the mage themselves, as no conductors such as tomes or staffs exist with their current technology. This makes the practice of constantly using a spell not only tiring, as it takes your own energy, but quite risky. Magic must be released in a similar way each time to minimize the chance of misusing the power of the spirits, so this usually leads to spells being used with the same motions.
Tomes, on the other hand, are much more flexible, as magic users have no worry about hurting themselves. All they’re required to do is recite the spell, then the conductor will perform all of the heavy lifting. Magic is generally easier to cast through tomes, leading to more flexibility around how it is released. All that is required from the user is the proper skill level to understand the book, as well as the book itself to cast magic.
So does Sonya still prefer casting magic through her own body? Yes, for multiple reasons. One, self-casting was the method Sonya has learned the art of magic through for the majority of her life. Even if working with tomes isn’t totally different, it still feels uncomfortable for the mage to shift her perspective. Additionally, the weight of the tomes still give her much unease. With self-casting, the weight of the spell is apparent only when releasing it, while the weight of a tome remains while holding it. It’s just the perfect amount of weight to bug her.

Sonya’s Timeline: Biding Time in Zofia
After a year of running with fear in Rigel, Sonya could finally rest somewhat easily, south from the man she feared. Now in a new part of the continent, she knew from the start that she needed to abandon her old life and begin to adapt. Obviously she had no connections in Zofia, so sticking to the street alleys was already the only option. It was fortunate she already held some expertise from her previous years hiding in Rigel.
Like before, here is a map of the Zofian part of Valentia for reference. Take note of the two fortresses in the upper right (Grieth’s hideout), as that is the main setting of this headcanon, as that is directly where Sonya crossed the Rigelian border.
Tumblr media
Some might remember the area as a barren desert wasteland. However, this change in the land was after Mila was sealed away in Valentia Year 398. Beforehand, the land was fertile and bountiful, the perfect location for trade between a network of villages. This was definitely the best place Sonya could of ended up, as it would be easy to profit off of the commotion between towns.
Before anything else, the young woman knew that survival came first. She needed a place to stay and food. While the former was impossible for a young, foreign female to achieve, both concerns could be easily answered with the collection of money. How would she get the money? Thievery, odd jobs, and dueling.
Not being one to raid trade parties while they were on the move, most of what she stole came from pick-pocketing, similar to Rigel. It was even easier to perform on the less-suspecting Zofian people, especially while Sonya was in her youth. She could just act like a lost, innocent girl who has lost her parents and run off with a few marks after passing by some citizens.
Of course, constantly stealing would increase her risk of being found out, so Sonya had to plan out a route. For some time, usually a few weeks to months, she would sneak around one village to possibly earn some easy cash and even sleep on a real bed once in a while. After she did enough pick-pocketing, she would travel on toward the next town to repeat the cycle. The mage continued this migration in a circular pattern and by the time she would return to a previously-visited village, they didn’t even recognize her.
Travelling between the safety of villages proved to be a hurdle. Making the journey alone provided the chance of being ambushed by a band of thieves, who would take special fancy for a seemingly-defenseless girl. Of course Sonya could handle herself, but she preferred to avoid pointless attention when possible. Trade caravans were the best answer, yet getting approved was a challenge of its own. Most could be bribed with enough coin, and at times her magical ability proved more than sufficient to convince some to keep her around for protection.
Rarely, however, Sonya would have to offer herself as payment for the trip. She was already aware of the beauty she possessed, inherited from Marla and perhaps even her mother. In her older years it became easier and easier to convince men to take her along through seduction, which she got better and better at through practice. She would promise the leader of the caravan a “reward” for moving her across, and all she had to do when they arrived was run off into the nearest dark alley, those of which she was accustomed to from living in the area for a long time. If she was unable to shake off men, the only option would usually end up being elimination.
While not a fully-fledged mercenary, Sonya would always look out for job offerings anywhere she went. It never mattered who the target was or if she had to kill, training was training. Still set on extracting her revenge someday, she had to make sure she was on top of her skills in any way she could. Additionally, a decent pay made any task worth it.
Another way for her to gain more experience was underground dueling. Although never devoting to major trading-raids, Sonya was unofficially a part of the bandit network surrounding the village area. It was never difficult to sniff out where the ruffians were hiding in a town, being one herself. It assisted in informing her about the general area of Zofia like the rumors she overheard in Rigel, as well as learning about stronger rogues out there. From there, the mage would scout out their location and negotiate with these big-shots.
While at some instances this would involve trading of information and goods or a temporary neutrality alliance, she would usually challenge the other to a duel. A majority of the time she would just request money, as the reward was never the main concern for her. The battles were usually a cakewalk, as they would always be overwhelmed by her magic. Before crushing them, she would try out some of her sword techniques first, both to surprise the other when she did mix in magic as well as get better in multiple fields.
-
After years and years of this same routine, Valentia Year 398 comes along and the land begins to die off. Along with the land went most of the people, abandoning their failed harvests in hope of better luck in the south. Meanwhile Sonya did not join them, as she had never left the area due to having everything she wanted. Furthermore, an instinct refused her to move anywhere south, further away from the target she swore to destroy.
With the villagers gone the desert land became a safe haven for thieves, who turned some of the buildings into bases and strongholds. One of these men was Grieth, whose name Sonya has heard previously yet never met in person. Having nowhere else to go, she decided to see if this bandit could offer anything of value.
Grieth was immediately pleased by the magic capabilities that Sonya showed off. After some thinking, he offered the woman a home in the desert as long as she remained his subordinate. Too delighted at the idea of being welcome somewhere, Sonya quickly obliged, unaware of any of the despair that was about to plague her.
