Uh kinda psa for anyone looking to upgrade their AMD CPU before Phantom Liberty (like me), Amazon is doing a bunch of discounts on some AMD Ryzen models - at least in Australia.

I did check the 'why' given I've learned in recent months that 'CPUs/GPUs do not go on discount predictably' and this is possibly related to a hypothetical security exploit being discovered in Zen 2 architecture CPUs as well as 3 and 4. Again it's a hypothetical exploit put forward basically by researchers which you can read about here, and AMD's response here.

Supposedly Zen 2's have their own additional security problem but it requires physical access (and the expertise to do it) to perform that exploit.

Also a possible leak of an upcoming processor might be factoring in. Anyways at least on the exploit front it's probably gonna get patched soon anyways so get 'em while the discount's good!

Oh and make sure to update your BIOS.

Man i love working with hardware.

Gave my main PC bravo a clean today, took em outside and blew all the dust out her radiators with the air compressor and cleaned out her case.

Gave her a fresh bit of cable management and insalled a CD drive i was meant to install a while ago.

Fuck optical media <3

After all that clean i gave her annother wipe down and took off her cooler to re-paste the CPU.

So now she is all clean, her thermals look great and im pleased with todays work on her.

Gotta make sure you give your computer a good clean and some love after you abuse them. Especially when you set them up with positive airflow to maximise cooling at the cost of becoming a dust collector.

Overall Bravo had a good clean today, and i've eveb taken some good time to fix how her insides looked, had to be very carefull while doing that, since i dont want electrostaic to mess with her parts so i had to set her up on my desk and take all her panles off to get a good poke arround inside.

All good even dowm to the PSUs management, gonna be a hell of a lot easier to maintain her in the future.

So, my idea is that the gaming PC should be able to play all current and upcoming games on very or ultra-high settings without any issues (e.g. Alan Wake 2, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, etc.), be silent and not overheat quickly and have good airflow, and have space for expansions and/or upgrades.

Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow RGB Edition, glass window, white CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 8x 4.2GHz, 96MB L3 cache or AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, 12x 4.4GHz, 128MB L3-Cache => I'm a bit indecisive on which one here. Mainboard: Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX, AMD B650 Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 12GB, Gigabyte Aero OC RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 Corsair Vengeance RGB, 2x 16GB, white SSD: 2TB Western Digital Black SN850X, read up to 7.300 MB/s Power supply: 850W Corsair RMe 2023, fully modular CPU cooler: Corsair iCUE H100i RGB Elite, white, 240mm

It's a bit on the pricey side, but I'm willing to order it if it can do well and I don't need to upgrade it in a bit, especially, because I don't think there'll be many more games with higher graphics as there are currently.

Hey love, that's a kickass build!!! I would go for the Ryzen 9 7900X3D instead. Simply because it's stronger and this is a purchase that should last you for a few years. Series 7 is great but there is a 10% more chance for a bottle neck.

My rule of thumb is always to go a bit over with the PSU because if your PSU dies, then it can take your entire PC with it. (It happened to me once, and it was painful!!!) Having said that, I think the minimum for 4070 RTX is 750W, but I would go with 900, perhaps just to be sure. It's not a must.

As for RAM. Go for 64. They are not that expansive and also DDR5 are incredible. I have the Vengence as well :).
