“Taylor's had plenty of friends, and believes in, and understands, trusting and relying on those friends--Aisha stood by her even in the depths of her madness as Khepri, Lisa and Rachel worked to help her and understand her as best they could even when communication was impossible for her, Parian and Foil willing came under her control when she needed them. Taylor firmly believes in the value and power of friendship, to the point where how she treated and parted with her friends was a deep regret she had. But that doesn't really change her perspective on Unity, because that was forged in the flames of the apocalypse, wherein even the impending annihilation of Mankind across all Earths couldn't make people get over themselves, work together, etc. A dozen different factions turned on each other in the midst of the end of the world, people kept secrets and lied to the very end, and perhaps most importantly--even those who did work together in the face of impossible odds couldn't actually do anything. Many Parahumans did work together against Scion, for example, and broadly speaking, they spent a week dying without accomplishing anything of note. Making progress required dominating and destroying everything in her way, and the fact that her friendships endured even when the world didn't and remained strong even when the world was ending is important, it's true, it's something she's held close to her heart for twelve long years--but it doesn't change that fact, either. And even then, well...when it came down to it, as Lisa complained, Taylor did things her way(....)
(...)Simply put, Taylor believes that friendship is an amazing, priceless thing. She believes that extending a hand of friendship, in the right place and the right time, can save someone and change their life and that it's valuable beyond words, and that the bonds of that friendship can be unbreakable, that they can hold someone up even when all else seems lost, and survive when nothing else does. She believes in love and devotion and holding on. What she doesn't believe is that people will put aside their differences and work together if the world started ending, or that it would necessarily matter even if they did. Sort of like how Taylor loved her father and believed he loved her and believed in the value of that love--but didn't believe that going to her father would, say, resolve any of the problems that she was having with her bullies, which, to be fair, it didn't. She believes in love and while she doubted her feelings for Brian, she wished she could have loved him and that that love would have be enough--but deep down, she knew it wasn't. She believes in friendship and holds onto it forever, but couldn't rely on that in the end, either. Because deep down she knows--or, at least, 'knows'--that the way to effectuate change in the world is to dominate and destroy everything in her path, because that's the only thing that ever did. TL;DR: Taylor was born to be a 90s Magical Girl, but was taught to be a 90s Supervillain.”

Review for the Night-Bird’s Feather
Look, I’m not your typical reviewer of the Night-Bird’s Feather. I want to get this out of the way: I am not going to rave review about the deeper meaning of this story, in part because I’m just not intelligent enough, I think. But as a fond connoisseur of fairy-tales, even sometimes dark ones, and being marginally familiar with Dr Moran’s previous work, mostly from Ryuugi’s fanfic and Glitch, I bought the Night-Bird’s Feather.
I bought it on Kindle thanks to Prokopetz’ recommendation, having bought Glitch Version 0 beforehand (also on Prokopetz’ recommendation). I give the Night-Bird’s Feather 10/10 stars. 100/10. 2500 mechanical spiders/10. I will read it again at some point in the future on my Kindle, probably when there’s no data coverage, on the Tube, again, and spend half the trip reading and half the trip trying to figure out what the characters are saying when they’re not being incredibly blunt. I recommend that you buy it. I recommend that you read it. I don’t recommend that you comprehend it. Comprehension is not necessary for this anthology of connected fairy tales. In fact, arguably, it’s better if you don’t, and let the rhythm of the words wash over you and turn your brain off. Certainly the incredible over-stimulation and twisty layers made me feel like a child again, poking at a mother who is probably stuck in a heron’s egg, and definitely not capable of explaining what the bloody fuck is going on beyond the absolute surface layer.
This is not going to be a spoiler free review. I love it too much and comprehend it too little to dance around plot points. I have no criticism to give, because almost the whole thing went over my head, beyond the usual things where Dr Moran is absolutely brilliant at worldbuilding and scene-setting, having tied it in some part to the Bleak Academy, and the characters are, while mostly setpieces in the way that fairy-tale characters are, are also vocal mouthpieces talking in complex tongues, registers, and reasoning, regardless of physical or developmental age. Yes, it’s unrealistic and heavy-handed on the philosophical moralizing, but as I mentioned, I understood none of the philosophy, so I can’t and won’t criticize it. Since it also doesn’t seem at all out of place. The massive monologues are a part of the style and weave easily into the narrative. In any case, realism is not what you read Dr Moran or fairy-tales for.
The Night-Bird’s Feather is at once a combination of fairy/folk-tale anthology, in the way that linked fairy-tales are, and at the same time an examination of one central character’s life through time (literally through time in some ways), a legendary figure and/or matriarch of an inestimable family, where the matriarchy mostly happens off-screen. The reader is introduced to this matriarch in her founding, origin story, via a child of the family, and the rest of the cast of characters star in various, repeating roles as they move toward the child of the family’s personal present (for a given definition of present, given the nature of the bleak academy), a nest of stories, like scheherazade; but honestly the central linking conceit of the story reminded me the most of The Time Traveler’s Wife, had the perspective been centered on the time traveler rather than the wife.
The anthology has an incredible exploration into a very small number of characters: all of the relevant characters are introduced in the first story, and all of them are explored in great detail and are all very relevant. No additional mice, except for those family members locked in the initial egg, are introduced, which scurry off into the ether - the story ends when the central character has moved on to other things, and feels simultaneously finished in a nice neat bow and unfinished in a Wattersonian way.
The book, as a whole, is darkly beautiful, and very Slavic. I hadn’t read much Slavic fairy tales beforehand, so I can’t attest as to the stylization’s accuracy - the only one I know is Koschei, and that was a Britishized version for ages 6 and under, anyway. The prose is stunning - glittering and evocative, imaginative and lush, ornamented yet clear. It is a book which drips poetry out of every line, which I adore, and is simultaneously a clearly-understandable fairy-tale for children (if dark and mature - along the lines of Grimm - though in no part edgy - I think - nor with a focus on gore for the sake of gore), and a deeply meaty chunk of philosophizing for adults. It’s worth buying for the descriptive prose alone.
The book is also, on occasion, incredibly funny. Because it relies on subverting expectations of fairy tales, and the focus character is something of a guile hero given the stakes she puts herself up against, sometimes the characters make razor-sharp observations against expectations that absolutely shattered my sides.
You can - I certainly did - push the heavy cerebral stuff to the side, and just focus on the fairy-tale. There is a lot of it, and all of it is good. I think the heavy cerebral stuff actually adds something - in that in its exclusion, everything else is starkly, darkly emotional, kind of. But the tone is unrelentingly miserable, a drudging, if beautiful, tragedy by Westernized and flanderized fairy-tales’ standpoint - from what I have seen of Slavic mythology and fairytales, that tone is pretty much on point. With the clear cerebral philosophy + comedy, though, and all the time and dream travel, that makes it bearable, even addictive.
I read all of it in a single sitting. I understood almost none of it. I’d read my partner, if I had one, this story, before bed. We would likely dream lush, vibrant, beautiful dreams, like watching rain pour down from inside a cozy house, like we were kids again and ignoring all the really thorny problems of the world that only adults could see and comprehend. There’s a beauty in just being able to push it aside and admit that it’s just way too much for us. If asked, I’d be able to explain none of this book. I recommend it to everyone.

Fanfic Review: The Games We Play
A somewhat infamous gamer June RWBY fic from 2015 by Ryuugi, that’s particularly notable due to the fact that its million or so word count was written over the course of one and a half years. What’s more, is that updates came almost every single day of that period, with the exception of a collective eighteen days. The story itself follows Jaune Arc, who just before the start of canon, finds himself with Gamer abilities (abilities that mimic a main character in an RPG video game, such as experience points, level ups, numerical stats, and so on). His mad dash to grind himself into something stronger starts unveiling more of the secrets of the world than he’s prepared for, even as they show themselves more than prepared for him. As a lot of the story was written before the third season, it could be considered a full on AU (Alternate Universe) to the main series. In fact, the series changes the characterisation of the majority of the cast that appears regularly, including Jaune himself. The story itself is definitely interesting, and the worldbuilding, is in my opinion, better than that of the original property. Remnant is portrayed as having a vast and tattered history, fully living up to its name, something the characters note on, at least once or twice. The feeling of a world that is almost claustrophobic in its lethality outside of civilisation is particularly palpable, especially with the levels of strength displayed by the more powerful Grimm. Ryuugi’s choice of semblances, as well as their explanations are also quite indepth. More than simple power boosts, or vague ideas that act as narrative fodder when the plot calls for it, they’re complex capabilities with their own strength and weaknesses, each ideal in their own situations. A particular favourite of mine is one which allows the user to create multiple servants from available liquid, which the user then uses as a kind of miniature engineer task force, capable of making things ranging from radar towers to death lasers. The combat is also quite interesting, though more in an early shonen battle manga sort of way. It’s rarely a case of slapping power levels against one another, but more often about fighting smarter, not harder. Unexpected issues arise, and despite Jaune getting quite powerful over the course of the story, not every situation can be solved by overwhelming violence. Of course, with that style of combat, indeed writing, comes the caveat of being rather dense and meandering at times. The pacing of a fight or situation can be bogged down with explanations of mechanics, history, or simple observations that go on and on. It becomes very stream of consciousness at times, unsurprising at the rate that Ryuugi was writing it. While the seat of their pants writing has mostly worked, there are some times where it drags. Another casualty of the writing speed is the text itself. The story is absolutely riddled with typos. Mispelling, wrong tenses, incorrect words, occasionally the text is so warped, it takes a few seconds to parse what the original intent of a sentence was. Finally, for a story based on RWBY, there’s shrinkingly little of the main cast at all. As was mentioned before, many of the characters have wildly different characterisation as compared to their canon counterparts, with Jaune himself being Jaune in name only. Coupled with the vastly altered setting, the story itself is practically an original property all of its own, with little recognizable from the original media save names and a rough idea of the setting. It’s a very interesting story, if a somewhat polarising one. If you like gamer fics with the protagonist getting incredibly overpowered, indepth abilities and world building, and a more comprehensive take on the idea of the RWBY setting than its creators did, this is the one for you.

Something something the choice to cast someone with a more “average” sounding voice to play Sakuya in Mankai Stage as opposed to his more really specific voice in-game can show that there’s a little bit of him in all of us partially as the poster boy for the series and partially because a lot of the characters are meant to reflect the player in some way aaaaaaa

"Oh great druid this humble petitioner asks for your recommendations on fics you did not write but enjoyed greatly I look forward to getting your top 15."
Uhhhh Damn. Hold on. Lets seee..... I can give you eleven- in no particular order- that come to mind with a bit of searching. but questioner- I read so many fics. This is gonna be a crapshoot of fandoms, so hold on. Of Harrowed Hearts by Sable_Scribe: A Naruto fic which is sadly unfinished- but had an awesome vibe and really dives into the characterization of the Konoha 12 and their potential. It does have Naruto/Sasuke vibes- but when it last left off the slow burn was slow and Sasuke was barely realizing his emotions. The Games We Play by Ryuugi: It's posted on Spacebattles origionally- but it's been reposted a few other places. It's massive- nearly a million words. This was my first real 'Massive fic' i followed as it was updating- and my real intro to Space Battles/Sufficent Velocity as fanfic sites. Also- first Gamer fic that went *way* into the power scaling and endgame stuff. Jaune in this story escalates hard as fuck. I'm talking supernatural kung fu, elemental powers, the ability to destroy cities- And his threats are scary enough to match it. This was before Salem for most of the story- but the Grimm that show up are terrifying. Keeping on the forums real fast- Two Quests (Essentially reader driven stories) deserve to be on this list. Xander [Quest] by one Judge Mental is another of those Monolithic kind of reading experiences. it's massive- on a word count I can't even figure out- spread across like 28 threads. it starts as a simple premise- You are Alexander Harris- and you are born as the reincarnation of Ganondorf. Yeah- that Ganondorf. Things only escalate past that point- to where the last i checked we were possibly the strongest sorcerer on earth- and only 12.
"A Geeks Guide: CORE" series by Sage_of_Eyes. Again, monolithic in scope- it's a complete reimagining of the Highschool DXD mythology (yes, the ecchi novels/anime. Yes it's way deeper then it deserves. Yes, it's also metal as fuck)
Swerving back from forums:
A Drop of Poison by Angel Of Snapdragons: Naruto's Shadow Clones are fucking crazy- and if you've ever wanted to see the power fantasy of them escalating non stop- this is the good shit. Drifting by AlphaDelta1001: More Naruto- but this one has some of my favorite 'Kinda Genius' Naruto moments. It mixes up the timelines, throws in a completley revamped Chuunin exam, introduces tones of new characters- and completely revamps Naruto's methods- if you ever got bored of 'it's all Rasengan' in canon- this is definitely a suggestion.
From Fake Dreams by Third Fang: Fate Stay/Night. Supercharged. This is a bit of a controversal pick- mainly because Third Fang is one of those authors who's sense of humor is... off. Just a bit of that old school Shonen Jump Pervert vibe in the background- snarky comments and purile humor creep around the corners of his writing- but FFD is still immensly fun to read. The power creep- already high as fuck in Canon FSN- goes so high. Where recently Shirou isn't fighting Servants- But True Ancestors. Son of the Western Sea by Mac_Ceallach: If you want Percy Jackson going solo on a world-wide adventure- this is it. its after the War for New York, before the romans showed up- and Its got Percy just... being cool vibing. Hitting into other myths by accident. In contrast, if you want some true off the rocker Percy- An Impractical Guide to Godhood by Antony444 It's technically a crossover with A practical guide to Evil- but if you ever wanted to see olympus and the rest of the percy jackson verse just... implode with chaos? This is it. Flooding Hades with the flaming river- beating Ceaser in Gladatorial Events, fucking with the olympians? This goes hard. The Many Quirks Of Phantom Thievery by PsychicBeagle Persona 5, reloaded. Featuring New Game+ shenanagains, plenty of romance and memes, and puns. If you're a P5 fan, I highly reccomend it. It's Time For Another Good Idea, Bad Idea by Haurvatat: This is a weird one- for one it's Solo leveling, so it's fandom was kinda niche. on the other... It's got Cannabilism in it. But! As a Cook? this is a guilty pleasure fic. The cooking scenes are all written like Binging with Babish episodes, the humor is on point, there's actual stakes and emotions- theres closure? What more does a fic need.

Given that you read Worm fanfic, and that Jagganoth, whose dungeon core story you introduced me to, is a big fan of Sect by Ryuugi (an excellent postcanon worm fanfic), I figured I'd ask if you are a fan of it also? The magic system in Are You Even Human reminds me quite a bit of it.
Never heard of it, actually. What's it about?

Cram Group hcs: At ThE gYm
(I don’t know where the f this came from but it’s here so enjoy it. Also shoutout to my friend for helping me think of weird stuff to do at the gym)
Ryuuji decided that since he was spending so much time at the gym for dragoon training, he might as well invite his friends. Which he immediately regretted. Without further ado, here’s some cram group at the gym shenanigans.
Ryuuji- just does normal shit at the gym: doing reps, listening to music, giving tips to other people, etc. laughs awkwardly when people give all his friends the side eye. He also has a really cute relationship with the old lady at the front desk
Shima- hits on girls in the most obnoxious way possible, says he’ll spot bon but gets distracted (and yelled at), raids the vending machine, goes to the bathroom and never comes back
Izumo- yells “encouragement” to all the weird gym bros (“are you fucking kidding? My 7 year old sister can lift more than that.”), practices martial arts, occasionally giving ryuugi warm water instead of cold cause she thinks it’s funny
Rin- excited cause this is his time to ✨ shine ✨, blushes when ryuuji takes off his shirt, makes a guy faint when he accidentally snaps a weight in half, gossips about weird people with Izumo and shiemi, brings homemade protein bars
Koneko- made exercise routines for everyone (he found shima’s copy crumbled in the trash), actually really enjoys running track, certified towel rack, head of the Bon Cheerleading Squad™
Shiemi- makes healthy snacks for everyone (they suck), tries to work out but doesn’t know SHIT, continuously slaps herself with workout bands, does everyone’s hair in preparation for going to the gym

I see you have been fortunate enough to avoid Couer's bs so far. He's basically a fanfic writer whose stories almost always follow Jaune, and the premise is Jaune bumbles his way into some situation that makes the entire universe of rwby revolve around him. Other "highlights" include him repeatedly bashing the show and ranting about plot points he dislikes in the authors notes despite exclusively writing for rwby, every female being inexplicably attracted to Jaune, Ironwood seizing power over the council is portrayed as a good thing multiple times, adam being "wasted potential", female characters/their actions are portrayed as being stupid for no other reasons then he dislikes them, this part often leading to women being lectured/punished (often violently) by whatever white guy he happens to be projecting onto at the moment, him being incredibly weird about Blake (one thing that he's weird about is her having multiple love interests despite the first "highlight"), and generally male characters getting priority over the female characters, often without a hint of rhyme or reason
One stand out example is Jaune taking over the White Fang, being portrayed as being better at it then Blake, Ilia and Sienna, while the narrative makes multiple jabs at how "ineffectual" the female cast is and at certain plot points for no reason, and show multiple female characters, including COCO ILIA AND SIENNA, are in love with Jaune for no reason.
TL;DR his fanfics are basically what RWDE wanted the show to be.
Thanks for the info, that TL;DR really seems to sum it all up and suffice to ay fucking YIKES!
...
Shit, OK so I looked into it a little more and realized he is the author of Professor Arc, so I had some exposure before blocking him from my memory and forgetting he existed till today, damn. Well back to the memory hole!
The main "Junae Wank" fic writer I've had to engage with is Ryuugi on Spacebattles with that Gamer Jaune thing. But I think we blocked each other ages or and so again I forgot he existed until now XD

This year’s Spring Troupe live broadcast (live practice) was interesting too~ No Shiraimu this year to add to the craziness though ww
Link: 【watch period has lapsed】
Favorite moments:
1. Asanii the Pink Police
As usual, we got Asanii making sure everyone wore pink and as usual, a certain someone wore a quite different shade again ww
“Is this pink!?” *grabs Kouchan*
Tumblr media
Kouchan called Asanii the Pink Police because of this www
“He’s so strict!”
2. Meteor Trail talk
We only got to hear the first part of the song, but Kouchan says Chikage (Wacha)’s solo part in the second half was really amazing. Wacha then says, “When I heard the demo track, I thought, you’re asking for too much.” (he’s saying that part is hard to sing) Kouchan later admitted that he was relieved that Chikage was gonna sing it and not Tsuzuru.
In a past livestream, I remember it was Asanii who complained that his solo song (I think it was Real Luck) was hard to sing. He said he remembered thinking to himself, “One really has to breathe in order to live, huh” or something along those lines...
Back to Meteor Trail, it was also funny how the other members suggested they do the moonwalk (since the song is tied to the event Moon Traveler), use trampolines while doing acrobatics (with wire) if ever they perform it live www
Tumblr media
Wacha reveals that he really did do backflips while jumping on the trampoline when he was younger, but now that he’s 41 (what!) it would be life-threatening now w
3. SakuSakuSakuSaku
A new monthly radio program hosted by Koudai-kun will start this May, where a different guest will join him every month! His first guest is Sakuma Sakuya’s stage actor Yokota Ryuugi! Koudai-kun says Yokota-kun is so pure that it’s like he’s talking to the real Sakuya. Asanii interjects, “You should look at yourself!” (meaning Koudai-kun is also like Sakuya~)
SakuSakuSakuSaku = SAKUma SAKUya (game & anime) & SAKUma SAKUya (stage), plus saku means to bloom, so you get a mental image full of flowers in full bloom~
4. Kouchan the City Boy, Asanii’s life experiences
One of the fan mails they got asked about their experience when they moved to Tokyo. Turns out, among all the members, only Kouchan was born and raised in the city, thus they called him, “city boy” www Koudai-kun even suggested calling him City-chan~~
“So this (pointing to Kouchan’s attire) is what city boys think is pink, huh!” Masa and Asanii teased. Kouchan retorted, “Alright, alright, then please continue your discussion.” (gesturing at the four country boys) Asanii exploded, “Dammit! He’s making fun of us!!!”
Asanii told them his experience when he had no money and was living frugally; eating okonomiyaki with no other ingredients than just wheat flour base, or pasta with just daikon and soy sauce. He also told them his experience during his teens when he worked at a factory in the assembly line.
Tumblr media
When they found out that Kouchan didn’t have to do part-time jobs, Asanii told him to “try it just once!” Kouchan seemed eager and asked Asanii to introduce him to that Lego factory (he said it, even though Asanii was careful not to say the name www). Asanii said working at 31 (Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop) would suit him. “You’ll go from 81 Produce (his talent agency) to 31 Produce!” wwww
5. Etude Corner~ (from 49:00)
Edit: Forgot to explain that this part is kind of like charade, each of them is given a prompt and ALL members have to guess it right in order to get a point! If they fail to get 3 or more points, they have to do a punishment game~~
Leader got all of his members’ etude right! Sasuga leader! Kouchan and Asanii did their prompts very well! And like the previous livestream, only one of them was given a different prompt than the others wwww
I won’t be detailed here, please watch it for yourself! A bit sad there’s no Shiraimu to add to the chaos though~~ 🌸🌸🌸
Tumblr media
That’s it! Sorry for my chaotic storytelling! It’s better to watch it yourself after all~~ Harugumi saikou~~

This bit from Ryuugi’s Worm/Bleach crossover Arana remains the most romantic thing I have ever read:
“I wanted to tell you something,” I told her when she trailed off. “That’s why I knocked you out of your body. It’s something I’ve wanted to say since I became a ghost, but you couldn’t hear me and I couldn’t trust myself until now.” She looked up, eyebrow raised. “Yeah?” “I will protect you. I promise I’ll keep you safe. Not just like this,” I gestured around at the room. “When you die, I’ll keep protecting you. I’ll find you and when you become a Hollow, I’ll take care of everything. You won’t have to eat people or anything; I’ll bring Hollows to you and Aisha and Rachel. The odds of keeping your mind once you become a Menos are supposedly low, but…we’ll figure it out. If it’s our fate to become monsters, then we’ll become monsters together, on the sands of Hueco Mundo. So…don’t be afraid, Lisa.”

mankai stage actors thoughts dump. i just feel like rambling
stage mskz's chemistry is insanely good. makes sense since both their actors have been playing as misumi and kazunari for so long and had to improvise so much skits together but they're so in synch it's crazy!!!! their dynamic is a major reason why shinobi misadventuring's stage adaptation was so good and i know it's wishful thinking but i hope they lead a play again soon. i just love their tandem
ryoya is phenomenal as masumi. he's adorable and regardless of my opinions on masumi fanservice he does his job so endearingly well i can't even be mad LMAOOO he's so animated too like kumon's stage actor. i cannot even begin to describe how amazing he is at singing like each time he opens his mouth in a harugumi play that shit that sends you to HEAVEENNN personally i think he's already cemented himself as a vocal powerhouse along with like teruma, toshiki, kandai, whoever else u think belongs on that list. they should give him 200% more lines in the next harugumi show
speaking of vocal powerhouse!!! i think sion as azami is underrated. i don't see him as talked about much but he's so good i'm still in awe at how his voice is so bright and crisp while being in such an action/choreo-heavy group like AKIGUMI and his chemistry with stage taichi is so good too i loved how they played off each other's energies in mantou fist. like mskz i really hope azamin and taichi lead a play together again soon
when august's actor got announced i was really surprised how similar he looked to chikage's stage actor. they looked related it made me wonder if that was intentional casting. and with hisoka's actor graduating soon (WE'LL NEVER FORGET YOU UECHAN.....) i'm starting to wonder if they'll cast an actor that looked similar to them both LMFAOOO
also i need shuffle plays to return!!! the only """hint""" i have is ryuugi (stage sakuya) saying he wants to play akiyama from first crush baseball in a radio show once and i am like 80% sure that's gonna be true. by the way if we're talking about shuffle play fcb taichi should play the muscle otaku 'cause he's BUFFFF personally i think ryoya and sion should be in shuffle play phantom because they're hashtag Singers but citron should get in there too because that's his mom's lead play. for shuffle play charlatan of oz we need tenma as wizard of the north i don't think we've ever seen him in a kinder guidance type role. as for shuffle dead/undead uuuummmmm tsuzuru because i have a crush on his ac

hasebe doing horikawa's high note
i wonder why they put ryuugi and spi when their voices don't match well.. then again it's hard to be on the same level as spipi
utsuhige monoyoshi × tonbokiri (looking like your average 2010s yaoi pairing)
