I have been with Awtagawa for 2 years now I fell in love with him since the first time I met him it was love at first sight. I joined the port mafia when I was 7 years old. Ougai found me abandoned in the streets. He believed my ability permeation. It allows me to become intangible letting me pass through any tangible matter I can phase through walls or the ground, as well as let enemy attacks pass through me harmlessly. It was easy to do tasks with my partner Kaiji Motojirō. However… my partner drives me crazy! His obsession with science was annoying at times. Especially when he wanted to test out my ability. My ability was very rare. I’m practically indestructible! I hated my ability till I met him. Rynosuke Awtagawa.  It was a normal day till I met him. He was bratty and compassionate about getting a man named Dazai’s attention. I never let it bother me till Dazai said “hey (Y/n)! Can you come here for a moment?” I nodded. I walked over “what is it Dazai?” I asked he smirked “I would like you to spar against Awtagawa!” He replied. I nodded “as you wish.” Dazai was grinning like a Cheshire Cat knowing that this guy did not know what he was up against. I’m very strong and confident. But sometimes I underestimate myself. So. I was scared to hurt him. We got in position and then he yelled “RASHOMON!” His ability. No demon lunged towards me “Ability Pass Through!” His eyes widen. I saw anger and per attack he sent went through me I caught him off guard when I seeped under the ground and kicked him down from behind. After that he always gave me dirty looks till one day he said “you are worthy of my time.” I looked at him. “I’m sorry. But, what is that supposed to mean?” I asked he then replied “you’re worthy of possibly being mine.” since that day our rivalry turned into love. 

 -Big Time Skip- 

Since Dazai left the port mafia and have a new acquaintance  Awtagawa has been more aggressive. More dominate. I was at our place we shared when I saw him grab his coat. “I shall be going.” I looked at him with worry. Something seemed off. “Okay. Are you alright though?” He looked at me and said “today is my chance to prove myself to Dazai. I love you.” He said as I was ready to say love you too he left. I mumbled “please be okay.” Then I heard Kaiji “well well well. Trouble in paradise?“ I sighed “why would you care?” He scoffed sarcastically “well! What type of partner would I be if I didn’t make sure my partner in crime wasn’t okay!” I rolled my eyes “whatever. Anyways what’s our mission? After all that’s why you’re here right?” He nodded “the boss wants us to get him some cadmium and benzene for something he is working on. However it’s in a secure place and heavily guarded.” I nodded “I see. Perhaps we do the lost lady as a distraction then ‘boom’?” He grinned “I love it when we do that plan. However you acting like a noble is sickening.” I giggled “you think so? I do consider myself an actress!” After me and my playful bickering towards him I got my outfit on (the outfit-https://www.pinterest.com/pin/18155204734546944/ {had to I love black butler!}) 

ON THE MISSION

As we walked into the warehouse I looked around the area. It was in the middle of the day and no security. So the robbery was a breeze. But then I got the call. Awtagawa was killed. I collapsed and burst into tears. Kaiji grabbed me and tried to comfort me as I sobbed. ‘How could this have happened?’ I thought.

FUNERAL

As they buried him tears poured down my face. “Goodbye my love.” I mumbled. As they layed him to rest. I then went home and stared at a pic of us. “I love you my love.” As I put down the picture a window shattered and there he was. “Rynosuke?” He was about to bite me then I smiled “I love you. My love will still stand.” After that everything went black.

It's scenic for the downfall of Stronghart, as a song about police brutality also fits the mastermind behind the killing of many nobles and criminals who claims it's all in the name of justice. The horse imagery in this song aligns with Stronghart having unicorn motifs in his design. Funny how a symbol of purity and innocence is also a symbol of power and Stronghart took that from 0 to 100.

The prosecutors have forgiven each other at last. Damn, Mikotoba saved the life of Klint's daughter, but the mother sadly passed. Van Zieks was completely left outta the know, but since the family name was tarnished, she was kept hidden for her safety.

And that concludes The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles! This was an incredible duology that will stick with me for a long time. As much as the first game's cases may not have been as much to my fancy, the characters immediately hooked me in and the second game made it all worthwhile. The pins were set and knocked down in a fantastical fashion! TGAA2 might've actually surpassed Dual Destinies as my favorite Ace game, which is a tough height to reach! The Phantom is still my favorite culprit though, so don't worry no one's gonna steal his title heheh.

And with the story of the ancestors at an end (for now, please Capcom make a Van Zieks Investigation game with Kazuma as his assistant I beg you it's what I crave), it's time to go investigate some men with Edgeworth! Starting tomorrow! Perhaps I could write up my live reactions for this newly remastered duology, too, hmm... I'll let future Neo decide!

The Mystery of the Caught Cat Toy

Author’s note: Surprise! I couldn’t resist doing an Ace Attorney related fic when the prompt was mystery! Here’s Day 14 of Tickletober: “Lose,” “Mystery,” and “High,” from August’s Tickletober List, Crow’s Tickletober List, and Nim’s Tickletober List! I hope you enjoy!

Series: The Great Ace Attorney

Characters: Herlock Sholmes, Ryunosuke Naruhodo, Susato Mikotoba, and Iris Willson

Word count: 921

Summary: Sholmes thinks that his perception is so keen that he can’t be ambushed, so he challenges Ryunosuke, Susato, and Iris to try to surprise him; the three concoct a playful plot to prove the detective wrong.

“Are you sure it’s up here? I’m not seeing anything,” Herlock says as he peers into the shelf that’s a bit higher than his eye level. He uses his tippy-toes to attempt to even out the height difference. 

“Oh, it’s up there, Mr. Sholmes, just keep looking,” Ryunosuke answers the detective who currently has his back turned from the lawyer. Once Ryunosuke responds, he quietly snickers to Iris and Susato by his side.

“Yes, I think I see the ball peeking out higher up the shelf,” Susato adds. Iris and her quietly chuckle as well. As they respond, all three creep towards an unsuspecting Sholmes with their hands curled in the shapes of claws.

Wagahai, their Baker Street cat companion, had gotten his toy ball stuck in the shelf when he was playing with it. Or at least, that’s the story Ryunosuke, Susato, and Iris told Sholmes. In actuality, the ball never got caught in the shelf. 

Earlier in the day, the Baker Street family got into a debate about who’s the most perceptive. Sholmes stated that his skills of perception are so keen, being a great detective and all, that he can never be ambushed. Of course, the family debated this claim, but Sholmes stood his ground. Thus, a challenge was proposed. “By all means, try to surprise me if you can, but it won’t be easy,” were Sholmes’s words with a taunting smile. When Sholmes left in the morning for some errands, a plan was concocted by Ryunosuke, Iris, and Susato to prove him wrong.

Herlock stretches his arms up above his head and feels around carefully on the upper shelf for the missing toy. “I’m surprised he was able to throw the ball this high. He must be one strong cat.”

Well, it wasn’t thrown up there, exactly, more like it bounced,” Iris revises to make their story (somewhat) more believable. She tilts her head to Ryunosuke and Susato as a signal for them to get into position.

“It is a mystery, isn’t it–AHACK!” 

Sholmes instantaneously clamps his arms to his side and stumbles a few steps back. As surprised giggles begin to emerge, he wiggles and twists around between the three who have ambushed him with a tickle attack.

“Whahahat is the meheheheaning of thihihihis?!” Sholmes shouts with a lighthearted undertone from the three pairs of hands scribbling at his torso, with Ryunosuke behind him scribbling at his underarms and Iris and Susato at his sides. Sholmes stumbles to the side and drops to his knees with Rynosuke still attached to him, which allows Rynosuke to gently tug the detective backwards into a sitting position so that the girls can kneel down and continue joining the fun.

“Remember that you challenged us to bypass your great detective skills of perception?” Ryunosuke answers him with a grin. “Well, it appears we have succeeded.”

“Wehehehell plahahayed!” Shomles admits, now realizing that the whole ball in the shelf story was a plot constructed against him. 

“Sorry for the lie, Mr. Sholmes,” Susato says with a smile, “But we thought it would be the best way to catch you off guard, especially with this method of ‘attack!’”

“Yep!” Iris agrees, “Because it’s no mystery that Hurley is super ticklish!”

“Irihihihis! Dohohohon’t exaggerate!” Sholmes replies through his laughter. “I’m nohohohot thahahat ticklish! AHA!” Sholmes suddenly yelps and his giggles quickly increase when Iris scribbles a hand at his belly. He kicks his legs at the ground before reflexively pulling them closer to himself.

Iris giggles, then playfully rolls her eyes, “Whatever you say, Hurley.”

“Don’t try to deny it, Mr. Sholmes,” Ryunosuke says from behind him, still tickling his underarms and ribs, “The evidence is loud and clear!”

“If by loud and clear you mean noisy and full of giggles,” Susato chuckles.

“Ohohokahahay! Yohohou win! I lose!” Sholmes answers through his abundance of giggles. “Now plehehehease, allow me the chahahahance to breheheheathe!”

Listening to Sholmes, the three pull their hands away for the detective to catch his breath. Sholmes continues to giggle for a few more moments from the residual laughter before he returns to a steady intake of air.

Ryunosuke pats him on the shoulder, “Are you alright, Mr. Sholmes?”

“Yes, yes. Of course, my dear fellow. I’m completely fine,” Sholmes replies with a warm smile.

Iris clasps her hands together, “Hehe! I knew you would be a good sport about it, Hurley!”

“Why of course, my dear. No harm, no foul.” Sholmes lifts himself back to his feet, with the three assisting him. Once standing again, Sholmes shrugs. “However, I would advise you all to now watch your backs,” Sholmes says as he slowly passes by them. 

The three freeze in place and watch as Herlock walks behind them. He leans forward to loom over their shoulders.

“You never know when an ambush might strike,” Sholmes smirks at the three, like he was telling a scary story and waiting for their reactions. Ryunosuke, Susato, and Iris immediately jump away from him.

“You know what, I just realized I have to…uh…do something upstairs,” Ryunosuke stutters while rubbing the back of his neck.

“Uh, yes!” Susato chimes in, “And being Mr. Naruhodo’s judicial assistant, I should…um…assist! With what he’s doing.”

“A-and Runo and Susie asked me to help with that task as well, so I should go with them,” Iris quickly says. “Um…Bye, Hurley!” the girl waves to the detective, then Rynosuke, Susato, and Iris scatter upstairs. 

Sholmes laughs to himself. That will definitely keep them in suspense and shrouded in mystery.

HOW AM I SO LUCKY

Gin’s Pov: 

I just finished a mission and walked in and saw my beloved 18 year old child (y/n). The age I found out I was pregnant with her. How could I have something so precious? What did I do to deserve (your gender)? Well I didn’t… 

~FLASHBACK~

I was out with a coworker (D/n). It was a normal night we did our mission like we were told and headed back towards the base to see if the boss needed anything else. However I had an urge and things got heated… 

(SMALL TIME SKIP CAUSE I DON’T DO LEMON 🍋) 

I woke up in (D/n) bed.  I was shocked but left quickly. After awhile I found out I was pregnant. 

‘Oh shit! How could this have happened’ 

‘What would Rynosuke think?’ 

‘How do I tell (D/n)?’ 

All these thoughts ran through my head till I heard the door open and saw my big brother. He looked at me confused and walked up to me and gave me a look. “Gin.” He said my name starting at me. My heart was pounding and then it slipped “I’m pregnant.” Rynosuke’s eyes widened in anger. “Who. Did. This. To. You.” I looked at him and told him everything. After all how could I lie to him. He’s been there for me my whole life. 

-TIME SKIP-

I went to work and tried to find (D/n) but he wasn’t there. Why wasn’t he there? I went to the boss and asked where (D/n) was. And the boss looked up and smiled and said “OH! (D/n)! Well he left the port mafia.” My heart broke ‘how could he?’ I thought. Then what the boss said made me shiver “I sent Chuuya to find and kill him.” I nodded and went home. I prayed for him to be safe and return to me. 

-9 Months Later- 

PAIN. Was all I felt. SCREAMS. Was all I did. While squeezing my big brother’s hand to bring my baby into the world. When I first saw my beloved baby all I could do was cry. My baby was small and beautiful. How could I be so lucky? Yes I’m young. But I will love my beloved child. I wish (your gender) came later in life though. 

As time passed (Y/n) grew up into a strong and beautiful person. My baby’s  first words was “mama”,  took her first steps to her beloved uncle Rynosuke. We trained (your gender) at the age of 4. And by the time she was 5 it happened. (Your gender) developed an ability. The same as their father’s.

She was strong with it and I was proud.

 -SKIP TO NOW-  

I thought about the past till my beloved child ran to me and hugged me. I asked if they wanted to know stuff about father. And Rynosuke snapped his head to me. And to my surprise (Y/n) looked at me with a smile and said “I don’t need to know who he is. You loved and raised me my whole life with Uncle Rynosuke. And to me. My Uncle is more of a father figure to me.” I smiled and hugged my ‘baby’ as we went on to enjoy the rest of the day.

Godzilla Minus One’s smaller-scale story elevates it above its contemporaries.

In a movie landscape filled with multiple universes, keeping a story simple with a focus on characters can lead to a better overall experience. Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros studios have assembled their own cinematic universe aptly called the "Monsterverse" based on Godzilla and King Kong. At the same time, Japan's Toho Studios has started its own set of Godzilla-focused films with the 'Reiwa era.' The latest installment, Godzilla Minus One, is not only the best film of that franchise but is arguably the greatest Godzilla film ever made.

Godzilla Minus One was written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki. Amazingly, the director also did outstanding visual effects in the film. Even on a smaller budget than the vast majority of action blockbusters, Godzilla looks as menacing as ever in Godzilla Minus One.

The movie is set in Japan in the aftermath of World War II in the 1940s. The story follows kamikaze pilot Koichi Shikishima (Rynosuke Kamiki) and his encounters with the famous monster Godzilla. After Shikishima deserts his post and lands on Odo Island, claiming his plane had mechanical issues, Godzilla attacks the Japanese war garrison on the island, killing almost everyone. Shikishima is blamed by the head mechanic, Sosaku Tachibana, for the deaths on the island, as Shikishima is overcome with fear when he has the opportunity to fire on the monster.

One of the central themes explored throughout the film is one of survivor's guilt. Shikishima is ashamed of the circumstances that led to him surviving the war and can't move past it. The shame of not dying during the war as a kamikaze pilot and freezing in a moment of terror haunts him. Shikishima is given photos by Tachibana after the incident on Odo Island, serving as ghosts that won't allow him to move on with his life.

The exploration of Skikishima's mental state is delved deeper when he meets Noriko Oishi (Minami Hamabe). Shikishima allows Noriko and her pseudo-adopted baby Akiko to stay with him after an off-chance meeting. They essentially form a family. However, Shikishima never fully commits to Noriko and refuses to call her his wife, even after years of living in the same household.

Godzilla Minus One is not just a great Godzilla film but also one of the best movies of 2023.

Unlike its American counterparts, Godzilla Minus One has a smaller cast, allowing for a more intimate and focused story. There aren't secret government agencies or multiple monsters. The film is just as much a story of one man's struggle to move on with his life as it is a monster film. The tale of Shikishima, Noriko, and his partners on the Shinsei Maru minesweeper boat is relatable. It doesn't feel like the middling typical Hollywood stock that takes place between the monster battles; instead, it is genuine. The audience cares about these characters and what happens to them.

Although primarily holding a dramatic tone, Godzilla Minus One has some moments of levity. Shikishama's crewmembers consist of Kenji Noda (Hidetaka Yoshioka), Shiru Mizushima (Yuki Yamada), and Yoji Akitsu (Kuranosuke Sasaki), all bringing a comedic element to the movie. Akitsu, specifically at times, is reminiscent of an over-the-top anime character with some of his responses and loud communication.

The most significant difference between the Reiwa era and Monsterverse Godzilla films is the emphasis on how Godzilla is treated and portrayed. In Godzilla Minus One, the dinosaur-like creature isn't romanticized or garners any sympathy. There isn't some hackneyed connection between Godzilla and humans. He is a destructive force that brings about nothing but mayhem and terror anytime he is around humans. That added creative direction brings an element of suspense that other Godzilla films have been missing.

When Godzilla attacks the city of Ginza in Tokyo, people are running for their lives, showing the true nature and level of decimation that an attack by the famous creature can bring. These aren't empty cities used as a playground for a monster battle here. All of the action scenes featuring Godzilla are utilized to perfection. In the film's final act, citizens take it upon themselves to kill Godzilla without the government's help, which refuses to intervene. The ending action is arguably the most exciting since last year's Top Gun: Maverick.

From top to bottom, Godzilla Minus One succeeds on all levels. It provides a straightforward dramatic story about one man's inner grappling with guilt and shame in the backdrop of well-executed action pieces. Godzilla Minus One is not only the best Godzilla film but also one of the best of 2023.
