I know RWBY gets a lot of criticism. Do you ignore it? Do you get mad? It angers me when I see toxic haters in this fandom and I want to know from a CRWBY member perspective of how you deal with it and address it.

So, here’s the deal... every creator and staff of every show, every game, every movie, every book, etc has to deal with this.

Each fandom assumes they are either “better than another” or “worse than another” - but I’ve been around the block enough times to know that it’s all the same.

There’s good faith folks, and they make up the majority, and there’s bad faith folks, who are the minority but also the loudest.

Where I think RWBY is a bit unique is that we, RT, are very closely connected to our community, and in turn, connected to the fandom.

There’s actual interaction between fans and creators in fun ways, but - because of the uniqueness of it - some folks take advantage of that and use that as a weapon.

Again, see all the harassment and death threats the CRWBY team has gotten over the last 15 months.

Then take a look at the harassment CRWBY folks have gotten over the last 8 years... and look at how some of that harassment isn’t even directed at the show but targeted specifically to harm specifically PEOPLE who work on the show because... who knows?

Criticism is great... when it’s constructive. But, and I pointed this out on Twitter recently, a lot of “critics” like to punch low and just blast hate because... hate gets clicks on content.

“10 Amazing Things About ____!” will always perform WAY less than “Top 10 SHITTIEST SHIT in ____!” ... that’s just how it works, sadly.

So, eventually, someone just trying to get their content to be seen will lean so hard into doing the “poking of the bear” style hot takes that it becomes who they are as a person.

Again, that’s not just RWBY, that’s everything.

Where I think things, again, are different is the vast amount of parasocial relationships that some people have built up... and THAT can drastically affect how things are seen or perceived.

Long story short:

This happens in every fandom. No fandom, no matter how much you may THINK it’s unique, has ever not had things like this happen in them.

What do I do? I take time to listen to people who bring important things to light in good faith and want better things for everyone... and I ignore those who seek nothing more than to hurt their fellow fandom members and the people who work on the show.

Since you are a member of the LGBTQ community any helpful advice to help me come out as pansexual to my parents? (They aren’t homophobic I’m just really nervous)

Oh gosh, I’m the worst person to ask about this. My blood relative situation is all kinds of messed up and horrid.

But I will say, if your parents aren’t anti-LGBTQIA+, and they have actively cared for you thus far, I wouldn’t be too worried.

Again, I’m definitely not the best person to ask advice on how to handle parents considering I ran away when I was 17. XD
