This is a clip art of RWBY Volume 4 Redux where Weiss and Neptune kissed. Finally in the fanfics (well, my fanfics) that they realized that time is short. But it is also something precious that they must cherish.
Tired of pushing each other away because of personal differences, they realized they cannot push away those romantic feelings towards each other. So secretly, they became a couple.
However, they cannot bring themselves to tell anyone due to Weiss' sister – Winter, and Neptune's brother – Jupiter being sworn enemies.
Weiss and Neptune began to fight for each other to get their happy ending. Their ancestors were meant to be enemies. With Nicholas Schnee (Weiss' Grandfather) and Uranus Vasilias (Neptune's Grandfather) being sworn enemies in the past, once the best of friends for reasons in the Volume 4 fanfic I have been posting.
Things get complicated for the more they tried to hide their relationship. Though the only ones who knew were Sun, Sage, and Blake, and Ren. But neither of their friends tell. Nor does the couple know about some of their friends figuring out.
Though the two are happy however they can to not let the burdens of saving the world get the better of them. There might be a hope for them in the future. (Again, it's just fanfic. But I am excited to write about it).

A Rosegarden by Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet
AKA Reasons Why Rosegarden is Canon #015: Ruby and Oscar's Multiple Shared Allusions to Other Fairytale Love Stories
Typical disclaimer that while all characters within the RWBY narrative have a main allusion, they often have secondary allusions that apply to the roles they fill in relation to other characters stories. Like how Yang is Goldilocks on her own, but becomes the Beauty to Blake's Beast when paired together.
The first, most notable example for Rosegarden is, of course, The Little Prince (expanded upon here). Oscar's primary allusion is of a boy who grows up on a planet "scarcely bigger than himself, who was in need of a friend", and one of his most influential relationships is that to a rose with whom he loves. They spend much of the story separated from one another, while the prince wanders lost in a desert, pining for a way to reunite with her back home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Important to note this isn't the only time Ruby has been a Rose for another fairytale. She also slots in as the Rose Red to Weiss' Snow White, she acts as the successor to her mom as The Last Rose of Summer, and she also stands in as the Enchanted Rose to Bumbleby's Beauty and the Beast given how it's a "true loves kiss will break the spell before the last petal falls" situation... and BB kisses two episodes before Ruby Rose "dies".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second notable allusion for Rosegarden is the Warrior in the Woods (expanded upon further here), a canon RWBY fable from The Fairytales of Remnant. The very first story within the book is about a village boy who becomes a huntsman after being inspired by a huntress he meets in the woods. A huntress, I might add he fell in love with the moment he saw her silver eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something to note about both of these examples, is that they are each stories with a focus on caring for someone else in unique ways. With The Little Prince, the Rose is vain and has many demands and asks the prince to tend to her; while in WitW, the warrior works tirelessly without thanks to protect a village. When the boy meets her, he starts looking after her for a change because he figures that's the least he can do to repay her. Both of these tie in well to RG's dynamic of Ruby carrying such heavy responsibilities alone, with Oscar making a conscious and active effort to help her shoulder those burdens.
The third, more subtle allusion, is their respective ties to The Wonderful Land of Oz. Oscar's first confirmed allusion before the Little Prince reveal was originally to Princess Ozma/Tip, the heir to the Kingdom of Oz given his proximity to Ozpin as the man behind the curtain, as well as to fit a "genderbend" character within the framework of team JNPR.
How does Ruby tie into this one? Well, we have to work backwards a bit. Ozpin's initial four lieutenants were all linked to the original cast of Oz:
Qrow as The Scarecrow without a mind (travels around as a crow and is regularly inebriated)
Ironwood as the Tin Man without a heart (his multiple cyborg prosthetics and character development in Atlas)
Lionhart as The Cowardly Lion (his fear overtakes him and pushes him to join forces with Salem to save his own skin)
Theodore as Dorothy Gale (donning ruby gauntlets instead of the traditional red slippers)
But RWBY is a story about legacies and breaking cycles. With the new generation of huntresses in Oz's inner circle, they replace those who came before them.
Blake takes Lionheart's place (cat faunus that ran out of cowardice, only to become brave and return to the fight)
Weiss as the Tin Man (aka Ice Queen, who's heart melted as she became kinder and grew more attached to those around her)
Yang the Scarecrow (no longer blindly following orders, but making an active effort to question the words and intentions of those around her)
Ruby as Dorothy (her little dog Zwei and the red - or silver, depending on movie or book adaptation - slippers that lead them all on their journey)
Why bring up Oscar as Princess Ozma and Ruby as Dorothy? Well, according to the original books and not the movie, "Dorothy and Ozma are each other's closest relationship" as illustrated here:
Tumblr media
Very good friends. Just gals being pals. Sharing the responsibilities of leadership with one another. Smooching in the palace gardens. Dorothy as the only one who's allowed in Princess Ozma's rooms without an invitation. #BFFS4EVA
These are all the canon ones that are easy enough to parse, but there are some similarities to others famous stories that can be found with a bit of squinting that I will also share just for fun.
The first is how Ruby's experience in the Tea Party acts as a near perfect display of Romeo and Juliet's ending. For those unfamiliar with - or who have forgotten - the bard's infamous tragedy, it is a story about two star-crossed lovers very much doomed by the narrative. It ends with Juliet faking her death without telling Romeo. So when her prince charming comes across what he believes to be her corpse, he drinks a vial of poison and kills himself out of grief. When Juliet wakes and sees he has left her, she takes his dagger and stabs herself so they might be together.
In the tea party, Ruby fills the shoes of Romeo and Oscar of dear Juliet. Oscar is "killed" by Ruby's blade, but it is an illusion. He's not real. Like Juliet, he's not really dead. However, the vision is still enough to push Ruby into drink a vial of poison (the tea that takes her to the tree), giving up in the face of her grief, just as Romeo does.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if we need any more evidence for this one, can't hurt to bring up the infamous quote of Juliet wherein she likens her love to an oh-so-familiar flower:
What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet;
A line that Juliet says to proclaim that if her Romeo weren't a Montague, then she would still love him regardless, but through which implies that it would be easier for them to be together if he were not himself. And within V9, Ruby's cited motivation to go to the tree is because she doesn't want to be herself any longer.
And last, but certainly not least, is how a lot of ships within RWBY seem to have fairly direct parallels to the myth of Eros and Psyche. It is a classical tale about the trials of love, putting the protagonists under multiple tests of loyalty and attachment before letting the two lovers unite at the end. Both love stories within Beauty and the Beast and Snow White and Rose Red pull inspiration from the myth, and we see it in CRWBY's approach to writing romances throughout the show thus far.
Blake and Yang being separated, breaking and rebuilding trust, before coming together in V9; Ren and Nora going through trials and conflict, currently apart now so they might discover who they are on their own before re-uniting with one another again; and Rosegarden having constant reunions, separations, and trials with strong focuses on their attachment to each other. Another common archetype they use from Eros and Psyche is that of the "Animal as Bridegroom", wherein at least one of the partners undergoing a transformation that is often monstrous in nature.
Bumbleby is self explanatory
WhiteKnight has the issue of Jaune being lost to time and becoming an Old Man, who's curse is reversed by magic. It alludes to his role as the Prince within Snow White and Rose Red who was initially turned into a bear via a curse
Rosegarden, has this instance for both characters. Oscar as an Ozcarnation (becoming something he doesn't want via a curse they are trying to break before time runs out) and Ruby's future fate should she be captured by Salem (being turned into a Grimm by the wicked witch - or eaten by the wolf - like her mother before her).
All of these line up with the myth's structure as well as Monty's foundational philosophy on love stories that we see in his quote from many years ago:
Tumblr media
A lot of these all have really tragic endings so uh. Good thing RWBY likes to subvert the stories it's telling, right? They're going to get a happy ending, right CRWBY???? 😰

Yknow what bugs me about Remnants map?? Where's the north and south poles. Well I guess Solitas is the north pole, but why does it Look Like That on the map? And where's the south pole?? Remnants map just feels weirdly like, idk, incomplete or unbalanced. Where's the continents that would be around the poles
Makes me tempted to make a new Remnant map myself but I wouldn't know how to do that loll
Also why is the other dragon continent unnamed. What's it called!!! (Personal headcanon is Stygia, but i wanna know the actual name)
it's the nature of a map created with ketchup and a grumbled up napkin—tho, to be fair, from my understanding (read: not an expert here lol) there's no physical north pole on earth, either. it's just the arctic ocean and bunch of frozen water floating around (with greenland being the closest landmass to it) compared to antarctica which is a continent with actual landmass underneath all the ice.
but yeah, i'm not surprised you feel like remnant's map feels "incomplete" bc it was pretty common before the lost fable—in which they showed the whole planet that didn't leave any room for anything "extra" that isn't on the map already—to believe / assume the map wasn't everything, or that the oceans were much larger than were shown, especially around the poles.
i think remnant being a fantasy world plays into it. like... how many fantasy worlds have a map that's the entire world? in my experience, it's usually just a specific area, a continent of it's own surrounded by seas and oceans, or one side is simply desert as far as eye can see that no one dares to cross further than is safe, the rest left undiscovered, so when rwby is like "and that's the entire world in one map" it feels... strange. unusual. surely there must be more, right?
i think the lack of names for certain areas plays a part, too. for example, beside the shallow sea, are any other seas / oceans ever named? they've shown all these different variations of remnant's map and yet, it's just stuff that has been directly mentioned in the show or in some of the numerous side materials rwby has.
which—i'm assuming—wasn't always the case? i can't remember where i found this (it's been so long lol but if anyone knows the source, let me know) and it's not the clearest photo, but the art book(?) had this really really old map of remnant in it (just look at the team names under shade lol) AND IT HAS NAMES!! unfortunately not for the continents so the dragon is still an unknown, and there are definitely major changes from then to now (tho mistral possibly being on an island speaks to me), but like. it has the right energy, ya know? i love this kind of stuff, even if it's never mentioned anywhere else—it makes the world feel more though out, more complete.

a rwby theory about the more unique grimm in salem army
I believe that every single one of these grimm was salem own attempt to permanently get rid of ozma (but obviously non of that worked)
Now obviously oz is not really easy to get rid off you can't destroy his soul with raw physical force he will just go to a new vessel
And trapping him in some sort of cell for any lengthy period of time is a fools errand for multiple reasons namely
Weakened or not oz is still one of the most powerful entities in the planet there is not a cell in existence that Salem can make that will keep him locked up for any significant lengths of time
Even if she by some miracle makes a cell he can't escape he can always just end his current life and go somewhere else
So salem had to get creative and she obviously never had the privilege of jinn or any of the resources oz has so she just did what she does best and used the grimm
Let's start with the obvious example
Tumblr media
The apathy
Oh oz keeps breaking out of his cell?
Good luck escaping with your willpower getting sapped away
But this obviously didn't work because apathy even in bulk took awhile to have an effect on huntman having a crisis of faith on someone like oz it's a mild irritation
Especially earlier on when he had more hope
And even if it does work he'd just starve to death
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now im grouping the chill and Geists because i believe these two are part of the same "product line" of grimm so to speak with their similar abilities of possession
I believe the Geists are the prototype to the chill being able to possess non living objects such as rocks dust or trees very useful but obviously they can't do junk to oz since they can't effect living entities
The chill is the "definitive" version of the Geists losing the raw power from the ability to control objects in exchange for being able to possess living entities
But they failed as well since while it's never showcased in the main show as the chill never makes an appearance in the main continuity outside the fairytale it does make an appearance in the dc comics where it gets overpowered by love
Seeing as there is no reason for it to not be the case in canon i think it's fair to presume it still has that weakness
Tumblr media
The nightmare definitely one of the more obvious ones here oz can't really fight his way out of her dungeon or end his life if he's asleep right?
Somewhat wrong
This is definitely one of the ones that could work but there are a few variables during ice queendom team RBY and jaune are able to enter weiss dream and fight the nightmare so it's not out of the question oz host or oz himself could also fight and eject the nightmare
And there is a trend with grimm that effect the mind thats says they can be fought off with raw will so this might apply for the nightmare to
There is also the possibility there is nothing to be done about the aura drain part which would just kill oz allowing him to escape to another host
And now finally
Tumblr media
The beetle
Okay now hear me out
I know the beetle is a bit of a weirder choice since it's used for the maidens but it did split amber soul so it appears to have soul sucking abilities
Soul sucking abilities that could possibly be used to rip oz out of his body and either put him inside a person of her choice to serve as a container or maybe even absorb him to use as a tool
Now it's purely theoretical since there is no evidence to suggest that incapacitating oz was the beetle original purpose but we can still draw some hypothetical conclusions on why it won't work and why we don't see salem use this even when she had oscar at her non existent mercy
During volume 5 and 6 we see that oz can and will take control of his host if he feels the need to so sticking him in the body of an underling might just end badly since she's potentially giving oz an even stronger body to fight his way out with
And trying to absorb him herself is way to risky since she's risking him assimilating her which would be bad for more reasons then i can be bothered to list
So thoughts on this idea?

Alright. Lore dump #1: Dust. Here we go!
///WARNING: Spoilers for Armored Core VI, and maybe for Fires of RWBY? Kinda? It’ll probably be fine. Anyway, you have been warned!\\\
Dust, in essence, works the same way it did in RWBY, but with a few of my own interpretations. Dust, in this AU, is made by mixing the ashes of burned Coral (which are extremely toxic) and a catalyst. The catalyst is what gives Dust the elemental powers we know and love; fire, ice, wind, earth, gravity, hardlight, and lightning. This combination triggers something in the ashes, initiating a process akin to radioactive decay as the ashes rip the catalyst apart, releasing pure energy that can be harnessed in a special mechanism or projected from certain weapons systems.
Due to the toxic nature of burned Coral, the Schnee Dust Company has… shall we say “forcefully recruited” the Rubiconians to acquire, handle, store, and transport the ashes to refineries across the planet. SDC reps say that it’s due to the Rubiconians natural tolerance for Coral, which to an extent is true, but it’s also cheap/unpaid labor. After a few years of being exploited, the Rubicon Liberation Front was formed, and a few years after that the White Fang splintered off from the faction, but that’s a loredump for later.
Currently, the only weapons, gadgets, and ACs I’ve written to use Dust are Myrtenaster (essentially all of it), Crescent Rose (scythe blade energy covering), Yang’s arm (small spoiler lol), and Gambol Shroud (plasma whip). Later on, the girls will get Core Expansion upgrades powered by Dust (courtesy of Arquebus ADD), which will be this universes equivalent of a Semblance.
Alright, that’s all I got for now. I hope you enjoyed my nonsensical rant about how Dust works in this universe, and I’ll see you soon! Just finished up adding some more tags, as well as chapter names, so go check those out! See you guys soon! :D

A few months ago, I made a post realizing that, technically, the characters of RWBY are all aliens since the events are set on a different planet, Remnant.
I had this weird idea proposing this question: What if they looked a little more alien?
Here's my ideas for team RWBY:
Ruby: She has red skin. Think Karlach from Baldurs Gate 3 but maybe a bit lighter
Tumblr media
Weiss: She has glass like skin. I'm imagining the movie version of Emma Frost.
Tumblr media
Strong yet classy, just like our favorite ice princess. She would have clothes OBVIOUSLY but idk if they would be normal material or glass like. She can control this form at will, meaning she can change from the glass like skin to normal skin at will, again like the movie version of Emma Frost
Tumblr media
Blake: For Blake, I have a few ideas. She has small fangs, a darker upper lip, possible retractable claws, only cat ears and toe beans. I'm imagining her face looking similar to this but without the whiskers:
Tumblr media
I'm also imagining the black parts scattered over her body if that makes sense.
Yang: Normally, Yang has scale like tattoos on her upper arms. But, when she gets angry/uses her semblance, those tattoos become real scales, her eyes become more reptilian, and little horns grow out of her hair, leaning into the dragon namesake.
Feel free to add on to this in the tags/comments!

A’ight, you know what, my brain isn’t shutting off for the night like it’s supposed to, so let’s just go off
So! SRMTHFG. Shuggazoom City. One city on one planet ‘cause everywhere else has been corrupted by Skeleton King, right?
BUT
Coming from someone who intermittently checks the RWBY tag (not necessarily a big fan of that show, but personally, I think its world has a lot of potential), that shouldn’t be the case, right? ONE city on this entire planet? With a massive underground jungle? Some ice caps? Come on, SURELY there are other human settlements ASIDE from Shuggazoom City, right?
Like, you underestimate the power of humans to ADAPT. Even amid the corruption surrounding Shuggazoom City, SOME people should’ve been able to figure out how to survive in the Zone of Wasted Years! There’s NO WAY there AREN’T any little villages scattered about
The other thing that bugs me is the presence of ancient ruins in the Savage Lands. Those didn’t just appear out of nowhere; they were built by PEOPLE. SOMEONE (other than Valeena) must’ve lived here at some point! What happened to those people? Does anyone other than Valeena live in the Savage Lands? The jungle may be harsh, but I imagine anyone who can figure out where to find food and how to avoid predators can make a semi-decent living down there
I guess what I’m trying to say is, Shuggazoom is WAY TOO BIG to have just ONE city. ONE
I may not have anything specific to go off of (like any confirmation that Shuggazoom is the same size as Earth or the explanation behind its pink surface, possibly a stylistic choice), but again, you can’t expect this planet to just have one city on it
OH AND ANOTHER THING
Shuggazoom City hasn’t seen snow in centuries my BUTT. Why does everyone have winter gear in Snowbound, then?? Chiro I can get, because on top of having a space suit in Hyper Mode, he probably has winter gear in case they go to an ice planet or something (come to think of it, I don’t remember seeing the winter gear OUTSIDE Shuggazoom), but everyone else? Who’s had use for earmuffs and puffy jackets since… however many hundred years ago???
To top it off, it looks like the city is situated on one of the poles. ONE OF THE POLES. There, you’d expect constantly freezing weather and weird day-night cycles! Assuming Shuggazoom is tilted slightly on its axis like Earth is, Shuggazoom City should be having periods where the sun never rises or sets! Hell, they should even be seeing the aurorea borealis! You can only expect constantly warm weather with relatively normal day-night cycles near the equator, and even then who knows how Shuggazoom even works!
And that’s not even getting to what the rest of the world looks like! Skeleton King kicks the bucket (for a bit), so if the planet is finally safe from his evil, what does that landscape look like now?
… By the way, how the heck did Chiro, a random kid, end up all the way on the outskirts of the city? I doubt even a bicycle can get him that far between getting out of school and bedtime
AND WHERE THE HECK ARE THOSE TREES
AND WHY IS SHUGGAZOOM BUILT ON SOME DUMB RESERVOIR THAT CAN EASILY FALL APART DUE TO EARTHQUAKES?
Sure, it’s all cool and futuristic, and maybe it’s not even my place to talk about it because I’m nowhere near a civil engineer myself, but like… I feel like this stuff doesn’t require half a brain to even think about
Ahem. That’s it for today

Thinking back on the idea of RWBY and rogue galleries in general, which comic book rogues do you think would be interesting to see Team RWBY (and JNPR/ORNJ) go against?
Obviously some villains would be flat out ridiculous (Superman's, Hulk's, etc.), but others, like the Spiderman or Batman villains, seem like they have potential...
Both rogue galleries are accustomed to teenage heroics yet are still susceptible to being defeated by them.
Some members are flat out crazy (Joker, Electro, etc.) and will probably get trounced without mercy while others are WAY more sympathetic in spite of their villainy (Curt Connors, Clayface, Mr. Freeze, etc.) adding a "human" twist that RWBY isn't exactly used to.
I mean can you imagine Blake, a faunus, trying to call the Lizard or Clayface monsters despite them not wanting their horrendous appearance?
Or Weiss trying to stop Mr. Freeze plunging beacon into the Ice Age despite the fact that all he wants to do is save his wife who brings warmth to his lonely existence?
What do you think?
When it comes to RWBYs own rogues gallery, it's not hard to find a set point on who fits who best.
For example, starting from the beginning, there's Vale's criminal underworld run by Roman Torchwick. I'd consider this
GANG-LEVEL
Street thugs, ne'er-do-wells, and general human scum who will lie, cheat, and steal, doing whatever it takes to survive. These are villains on the same level as most of Gotham's worst of the worst; Joker, Penguin, Scarecrow, Riddler, ordinary humans with slightly above average physical skills. But, it should be noted that these are also villains who have tricks up their sleeves. Tricks like, well, a trick cane... or Joker Venom.
But after the Fall of Beacon, we reached a new level of threat that gives us a broader perspective. These are the villains who have went beyond the ordinary and into the extraordinary, bringing with them a dangerous arsenal of weapons, skills, and super-powers that make them a threat to even the most skilled fighters. In honor of this, I choose to classify them as
HUNTSMAN-LEVEL
Superhumans, supervillains, and super pains in our backsides, these are the kinds of baddies that definitely make a Death Battle list. Villains like Tyrian Callows, Adam Taurus, Arthur Watts from RWBY get put up against super-criminals like The Scorpion, Shredder, and Doctor Doom. These would be tough fights for RWBY and would require help from the other side to assist. I'm thinking entire stories with them as the big bad guys. There's some kind of superhuman skill they have that makes them more than just a threat, but a super threat.
Speaking of Big Bads, going beyond the scope further are the enemies that are way too much for RWBY and would actually the fun of writing these universe together. Yeah, I'm talking
EXTINCTION-LEVEL
Thanos, Darkseid, Salem; you know them, you fear them, and there's a reason for both. These are the final bosses of their own franchises, and the reason for that is pretty clear. Planets? Dusted. Galaxies? Peanuts. Life? Meaningless. Resistance? Futile. However, my biggest problem with these villains for RWBY is they're too big. Like, these guys just blink, and the worst thing that could happen to our heroes is just the start. So, yeah, don't expect me to write anything serious with these players anytime soon.
---------------------------------------------------
Now, as for sympathetic VS merciless, it kinda depends on the situation they're in.
For example, Basil Karlo, Clayface, was a famous actor who desperately wants to regain his original appearance. Sympathetic. However, I can also see Weiss freezing him without hesitation because he's trying to kill a doctor who can't fix him.
Dr. Kurt Connors would be similar with Blake, as you said, but I feel she would also feel no hesitation in putting him down. She might draw some parallels between him, and another seemingly passionate man driven over the edge into becoming a monster.
Honestly, these are both interesting scenarios, and I'd like to do more with them if I get the chance (COUGH, COUGH, 70 ASKS) but we'll just have to wait and see until then.
Keep up the good work and thanks for the food for thought!

Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1 Spoiler-Filled Review
Tumblr media
Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1, also known as Justice League x RWBY, RWBY x Justice League, or JLxRWBY for short, is an anime-inspired science fantasy action-adventure film, bringing together characters from the Justice League and those from the young adult animated series, RWBY. The latter is the flagship series of Rooster Teeth and began airing in 2013. It recently concluded its ninth season. This film was written by Meghan Fitzmartin and directed by Kerry Shawcross.
Reprinted from Pop Culture Maniacs and Wayback Machine. This was the thirty-second article I wrote for Pop Culture Maniacs. This post was originally published on April 30, 2023.
This 83-minute film begins with Superman's unexpected arrival on Remnant, since he has no idea how he ended up there. In classic crossover fashion, seven of the classic Justice League characters, find themselves in Remnant as teenagers. Soon enough the huntresses of Remnant, specifically Ruby Rose, Blake Belladonna, Weiss Schnee, and Yang Xiao Long, and their friends, work with them to learn why their planet has changed and stop a Grimm monster from destroying all that exists. Ruby, Blake, Weiss, and Yang all have superpowers of sorts, known as semblances, each unique to themselves.
I was intrigued by this film as an avid fan of RWBY and occasional watcher of superhero series like DC Super Hero Girls, Young Justice, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Birdgirl, Harley Quinn, Hamster & Gretel, Gotham Girls, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and She-Ra: Princess of Power. My interest in the classic superheroish magical girl anime Sailor Moon and the superheroish action series such as Sym-Bionic Titan, My Life as a Teenage Robot, and OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes, further made me want to watch this film. My excitement remained even after learning that the film takes place in the first half of RWBY's Volume 7.
There are differences from RWBY. For instance, Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang wear the outfits they donned in Vale, while Weiss can master her summoning of Glyphs, Nora wears the same outfit she wore in Beacon Academy, and the CCT tower at Beacon isn't destroyed, but is active. This is all because this film takes place in an alternate universe of sorts. That makes sense as it is a crossover film which has the same voice actors as the original RWBY series. One difference is Tiana Camacho, who voices Glynda in the RWBY original anime spinoff, RWBY: Ice Queendom.
It was nice to see Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang, Juane Arc, Pyrrha Nikos, and Lie Ren, the latter three part of team JNR, interacting with members of the Justice League such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman/Diana, Green Lantern/Jessica, Vixen, Cyborg, and The Flash. In the RWBY show proper Ozpin has been reincarnated as Oscar, other characters have either died, like Jacques Schnee (presumably in Volume 8), or haven't appeared in the show recently, like Glynda or Kali Belladonna. They return in this film.
Two other characters also appear: Adam Taurus and Sienna Khan. Adam Taurus was Blake's abusive boyfriend. Sienna Khan was killed by Adam to take control of the White Fang, a peaceful organization originally aimed at improving conditions for the Faunus, a group of people with animal traits. Taurus aimed to change the latter organization into a violent terrorist organization which would overthrow human society and replace it with a Faunus-led one. In Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1, the latter two characters are only shown in a flashback when Blake remembers back to what actually happened during the series.
Apart from the voice actors for the RWBY characters, like Arryn Zech, Blake Dunkelman, Lindsay Jones, Kara Eberle, Miles Luna, Samantha Ireland, and Neath Oum, those who voice the members of the Justice League (Chandler Riggs, Nat Wolff, Natalie Alyn Lind, David Errigo Jr., Jeannie Tirado, Tru Valentino, and Ozioma Akagha) are just as talented. Riggs (who voices Superman) is known for his role as Carl Grimes in The Walking Dead. Wolff, the voice of Batman, has been recognized for his music, and roles in films like Paper Towns, The Fault in Our Stars, and Ashby. Lind, the voice of Wonder Woman in this film, is known for various television appearances including as Danielle Sullivan in Big Sky.
Errigo Jr., voice of The Flash, has previously done voice work in Ridley Jones, The Casagrandes, Milo Murphy's Law, and Dota: Dragon's Blood. Tirado, voicing Green Lantern, has lent her voice to characters in dubs of Fairy Tail Zero, KanColle: Kantai Collection, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Tru Valentino, who voices Cyborg, is known for his voice work in Madagascar: A Little Wild, Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, and Spidey and His Amazing Friends.
I personally remember Valentino best for his role as Cuphead in the short-lived animated slapstick comedy, The Cuphead Show. Finally, Arkagha, who voices Vixen, is best known for her acting as Harper Omereoha in Delilah, and her voice acting as Shuri in What If...? and Bumblebee in Teen Titans Go!, to name a few roles.
youtube
Admittedly, I wasn't sure about Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1 at first. Surely, the fight scenes and the character designs were good, but was uneasy about the plot, even when Superman got on the scene at the film's beginning. However, the film drew me in, beginning with Grimm glitching out of control when killed, all while they still retain their goal, as soulless creatures, to destroy humanity, which as Nora puts it at one point in the film.
The humor of the characters, especially of Yang, lightened the mood. For example, Yang scoffs at the idea she will call Superman by his name, causing him to admit they can call him "Clark" (as in Clark Kent) instead. It was also funny that when Batman/Bruce Wayne fights people in the Schnee mansion, a person is playing the piano during his fight.
The fracturing and scrambling of memory, causing the characters to be confused about what actually happened, is at the crux of the Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1. It causes people, such as Ozpin, to appear, glitch into Oscar, and disappear, or others like Blake's mom, Kali, to say strange things. Some try and figure out the reality of their present predicament. Batman/Bruce Wayne, attempts this, but gets imprisoned. Others realize something is wrong, but are unsure what to do about it.
There is even a sub-theme about the power of privilege. Weiss criticizes her father, Jacques, of the ever-powerful Schnee family, for having a party rather than not repairing the CCT Tower. This bonds Weiss and Batman/Bruce Wayne together, as he says that the wealthy don't care about the plights of other people in any universe.
As would be expected, there are disagreements between heroes, with Blake and Yang annoyed that the Justice League is trying to tell them what to do, and vice versa. In fact, in a harsh scene which resonates with those who saw Volume 9, Cyborg asks Ruby who she is and she doesn't know. Although Superman says it is difficult to be a leader, he later questions her as team leader, which does not help her confidence! Even so, when Kilgore declares that Ruby is a child who is trying to be a leader, Superman reassures her, saying leadership isn't about age, but about your heart. He adds that although people will inevitably freeze and fail, that's what makes you human. The latter is a hint at the theme of self-acceptance enshrined throughout RWBY's Volume 9.
In the end, Team RWBY, Team JNR, and Justice League all work together, either by examining at holographic maps or tapping into their superpowers/semblances to fight the Grimm and save the day. Their fight is complicated by the fact that these Grimm are not ordinary, but can reboot, until they are electrocuted. This means that Ruby can't use her silver eyes, her ultimate "weapon".
This road to victory is not necessarily a simple one. One theme of Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1 is that people lose something which is a part of them. For Vixen, her necklace is missing, and for Jessica, she lost her all-powerful Green Lantern ring. In the case of the latter, it seems she is having issues tapping into her powers at first.
What stole the show in this film was Juane offering to help her, showing care, patience, and understanding in the process. Ger power is trapped, and she can't access it. Jessica says the ring grounds her, stating it is a symbol of power, belonging, and control. Hence, without it, she feels unmoored and listless, like a ship drifting across the open sea. This reminds me of how Adora felt in the final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, when she felt completely lost after the Sword of Protection was shattered, and even questioned whether she could help her friends. Coming back to this film, Juane tells her that her ring gets the truth of things and the truth of her, again trying to help her center herself.
At the same time, the film provides subtle hints to the trauma the characters have experienced in the past. Cyborg says at one point "what, you haven't learned to adapt thanks to childhood trauma?". Canonically, in the Marvel universe, Jessica experienced trauma herself as a kid. As such, the film's writers were not above retraumatizing the characters. For example, a person who looks like Pyrrha tricks Juane, and traps him, with Jessica, in a box, while warning them to not warn the Justice League about the reality. Juane is further affected when the Seer causes him to see Pyrrha's death, paralyzing him.
After Juane had already experienced the death of Pyrrha second-hand (Ruby saw it first-hand), seeing her in front of him caused him to lose all reason, and trust her. This isn't a surprise after all he has been through, so no one can hold it against him. It was good writing to have Juane tell Jessica about Pyrrha and still be able to help Jessica be more than her fear. In a powerful statement which is often not stated in fiction, he tells her it is fine to have anxiety flare-ups and implies she shouldn't be ashamed of them. All of this helps encourage Jessica to use her green lantern power to help them escape.
youtube
Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1 hints at the ship-of-sorts between Jessica and Juane, which could be called "Greenknight", overriding any interest Juane had in Vixen, who he seemed taken in by, at first. The film also implies there is a ship between Batman and Weiss. In fact, Weiss states various times that Batman should stay. This could very well mean that she has romantic feelings for him. Their collaboration is an important part of the film, as both work together at an Atlas' computer lab to learn the reality of the world and why everything is glitching.
Funny enough, Diana is jealous of how close Weiss and Batman are getting. It could be part of the reason she wants to pull him back to "his" world. The writing of Diana, Weiss, and Batman in the film is good. It better than what some would claim, as it is clear that a Batman and Weiss ship, at least in the forms shown in the film, is possible. Otherwise, Weiss and Batman can fight well together, even when faced with impossible odds.
While it is not directly stated, there is queer subtext between Blake and Yang. In the show proper, both are in a relationship, mutually confessing their romantic feelings in the Volume 9 episode "Confessions Within Cumulonimbus Clouds". The ship between both, known as Bumbleby, had been semi-canon before that point, but was not canonized until that episode. In the film itself, Yang hugs Blake happily, Blake gives Yang the side-eye when she describes Diana "very strong", and Blake agrees to go along with Diana to Atlas because she is jealous. Still, Blake puts this aside and fight alongside her against the Grimm while flying through the air.
At other points in Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1, Blake and Yang look at one another, with Blake explaining how she and Yang got to know each other. Furthermore, Yang worries about Blake after she talks about losing people. In a very touching scene in the film, Blake and Yang touch each other's hands through the cockpit window, with Yang saying she trusts Blake, while she pilots the aircraft. In the meantime, Blake puts aside her jealousy so she can fight alongside Diana against the Grimm even as she flies through the air.
Toward the end of the film, after Diana says she knows it is hard to fight under fire, Blake says that it is nice to kiss ass and bumps her ass with Yang. As Yang's voice actor stated in watch party for the series, "how did anyone ever think Yang was straight". Although it has not be directly confirmed, fans have stated that Yang is a lesbian. Blake was previously confirmed as bisexual. As Shawcross put it, Bumbleby moments were added because it was something the crew liked and said the moments. He also stated that "Blake and Yang had a lot that they could talk [about] with and relate to with Diana, Wonder Woman". The latter may have been a reference to past comments by those who say that Wonder Woman is a bisexual icon, later confirmed by writer Greg Rucka.
The last battle of Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1, which involves riding on bikes, and tag-team fighting (like Yang and Blake), is one of the film's strongest. In a hint at what may happen in the second part of the film crossover series, it is clear that a villain named Kilgore, who created a virtual reality by mind-controlling The Flash, is also stuck there. As such, it is implied that someone else is controlling him, although it isn't clear who.
His plan to make the Justice League into teens, when they are "vulnerable", have the world rip them apart, and cause them to deal with emotions they ignore or regress as adults seems like a weak plan. He could have, just as easily, imprisoned them on their own world, instead of Remnant. The hubris of Kilgore is what takes him down. Jessica uses the equivalent of Ruby's silver eyes on the Grimm dragon, which has Kilgore inside, causing him to almost fade from existence.
Although everyone says their goodbyes and they all go back to their respective worlds, it is clear this isn't the end. All of the main cast, which are not part of the Justice League, wake up from what was supposed to be a training mission. Ruby's concern that someone created the virtual reality/simulation, a person from their world, setting the stage for the next film.
All in all, animation of Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1 is well-done, and the designs are very colorful. There are even features that make it seem like a comic book, such as talk bubbles when characters are annoyed, and other expressions. All of the flowing animation which goes easily with the storytelling, voice acting, and the like, is no surprise as over 210 people, if not more, worked on this film. That makes it an even bigger effort than a volume of RWBY!
youtube
Unfortunately, Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1 was effectively spoiled on social media before its release, in part because it accidentally aired early on Redbox on April 20, five days before its general release. This made animators ask fans to not post spoilers until the film came out, or say they feel "pretty hurt" by people posting clips from the entire film before its release on April 25th. On the positive side, this interest will undoubtedly help support Volume 10 for RWBY, so that the show's characters can have their stories continued, even if reported review bombing on IMDB continues.
The film was available on Google Play, but was later taken down for unexplained reasons. Although the stock of Rooster Teeth's parent company (Warner Bros. Discovery) has been falling, thanks to the rebranding of HBO streaming platform, and debt continues to accumulate, the film survived the cuts. That is for the best.
Adding onto what I've said so far about the film, I personally liked the design of characters like Jessica, whether you consider her gender non-conforming or not, the White Rose scenes of sorts, Weiss summoning powerful glyphs, and it is a lot of fun. Perhaps, there will be future RWBY features in the future which are not crossovers.
In certain ways, this film made me think of Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night, which I reviewed earlier this year, as it is also set in a virtual reality. In this film, the characters are forced into a virtual reality, while in Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night, I believe they chose to be in that reality.
Hopefully, in the second part of film crossover series, Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two, which may come out in the summer, there is more character exploration of Superman, Batman, Diana, and Vixen. This film focused on the internal struggles of Jessica more than the other Justice League members. It would be great to see a focus on the mental struggles of the other Justice League members as well. I would not be surprised if there are additional scenes with ships such as Bumbleby, Greenknight, and Weiss/Batman, since this film set the groundwork for the next one.
As a final note, although David Levy, who has long worked on RWBY, and on series such as Red vs. Blue, Camp Camp, various bands, and independent films, does a decent job with the film's music, it isn't that memorable. Maybe, Casey Lee Williams could either compose the music score of the next film, or at least a few tracks. That would ensure that the film packed an extra punch.
Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part 1 can be purchased or rented on Prime Video, MoviesAnywhere, iTunes/Apple TV+, Redbox, and Vudu, or have the DVD and Blu-ray ordered from other online marketplaces.

RWBY Volume 5 Sneak Peak
Tumblr media
This little doodle for my next fanfic shows Weiss and Neptune dancing after escaping from Atlas. There Neptune shows her around to help her rejoice. As the two have a good time, they see couples dancing to the music.
Even if the world of Remnant is about to come to an end (which is unknown to them), the two wanted to make their moments as nice while there is.
Neptune wanted to do was to make Weiss happy after she was being disinherited by her father, after finding out about her unhappy family life. But he doesn't know how to dance. So Weiss shows him.
While the two dance, their feelings for one another began to blossom. And because of this, both Weiss and Neptune feel the beat of music while they dance. As if Neptune didn't need to learn much longer as they felt lost at this beautiful moment.
With each other, they were allowed to express themselves and no longer need to hide in their outside appearances.
To them, they will have to move on from their past and face the world together. That's what Volume 5 could've been.
But on the other hand, they kept their romance a secret from their friends, their teams, even from Weiss' sister, Winter. Since they figured Winter's feud with Neptune's brother, Jupiter. Fearing neither of their loved ones will accept their relationship.
In Volume 7, I can imagine Weiss and Neptune having a secret romantic picnic during their day off as hunters after being recruited by Ironwood after their arrival in Atlas. How is Winter going to react if she finds out about Weiss' relationship with the brother of her sworn enemy? I'll leave that to your imagination before I upload fanfics of Volumes 5-7.
Little did they know that there was a dark history between their families prior to the series. Even with that, neither of them are going to let that get in the way of their happiness.
Even if Salem tried to end humanity, Weiss and Neptune will still be happy with their moments together.
Happy birthday, Weiss Schnee.

ꕥ — WELCOME TO NEFE COSMIA, SUMMER ROSE. 🌓

name / alias: saturn age: 27 pronouns: any ooc contact: blakebelladonna on twt other characters in xc: blake belladonna (rwby), jupiter (wktd)
ꕥ  — IC INFORMATION;
name: summer rose age: 34 pronouns: she/her series: rwby canon point: post-death app triggers: parental death, war.
personality: they say there are several ways to be a leader. some exhibit seismic strength and grit, showing the world that through sheer power alone they are able to triumph forth on their own accord. others use love and generosity as their tool; a seemingly weak  little thing, more dangerous than many realize at their own discretion. summer was able to keep a healthy balance between these attributes. though more often than not it was her heart that had been too big for her own good. summer rose was known to be kind towards everyone, always seeing the good in others when they had clearly given off a vibe that would say otherwise. often times she was scolded for being so naive.  but… was she truly? perhaps she was too generous in giving people second chances, that to which her teammates could confirm in days spent on missions together. her youth proved her to be a reckless, sometimes even “bratty”, headstrong  individual nonetheless. someone had to be a positive force in a sea of uncertainty, and summer absolutely filled that role which none of the others could if they so tried.
it is often proclaimed, though, that every rose has its thorns. as soft a soul the huntress was she had never been a push-over. when the job needed to get done, it was done without fail. as every huntsman and huntress solemnly swear, she too was hellbent on keeping humanity on remnant safe from harm. whether it had been from grimm or another greater evil, summer was always there to combat said forces without hesitation. perhaps she had been a little too reckless in her decisions sometimes; though with a quick-witted plan, it was nothing short of a miracle that STRQ ever made it out barely unscathed. she made a promise to be a sworn protector of this world, and that’s exactly what she fulfilled.
even in death.
in adulthood her excruciating kindness never wavered. she was known to be a spectacular mother to her children, ruby rose and yang xiao long. a mother’s love is the strongest force on the face of this planet. everything decision she made, the sacrifices she chanced– all of it had been so her offspring would perhaps lead a better, less risky life than she did.
summer’s final moments were only full of hope they would not follow in her stride.
something your muse struggles with: summer has a penchant for being secretive. she does it in believing she’s protecting others from harm and taking the brunt of the burden (depending how dire the circumstances are), when in reality it’s hurting those who deserve to know it most.
your muse’s greatest strength: alongside her unbound bravery, summer is also very protective. every move she makes is with calculation in what she believes is right. she'll always put others before herself, which may also happen to be a vice in some people's eyes.
history / background:
the extent of summer’s past is one shrouded in vague enigma. once upon a time she had been the fearless leader of team STRQ; a combat group hand-picked by ozpin himself to aid him in his secret war against salem and her forces. together this team had flourished alongside her, being sure to fight for a cause they once believed they could win. summer herself, though, seemed to have her own mysterious air to her once climbing the ranks as an official huntress.
that was not atypical of someone so headstrong on saving those she loved the most.
it would be years until she would vanish with no return. a final mission, they say– one not even ozpin himself knew about until it had simply been much too late. behind her she left a grieving partner and two beautiful children. as to where she set off?  not a single soul knew.
but wherever the petals may have fallen, they had not done so without one last fight.
powers / abilities:
aura: a natural shield which a huntsman’s body generates after being unlocked. it has the power to heal wounds over time depending on the severity of the injury. aura has also shown the ability to repel objects (such as bullets or shrapnel), though with a cost. this shield can easily be broken once worn away during battle, or after a huntsman has become exhausted. a complete depletion of aura, in most cases, means certain death. the only way to replenish it fully is with rest and nourishment. summer’s aura color is a brilliant white color.
silver eyes: a rarity amongst those who live in the world of remnant. tales of a more ancient era say those who possess these eyes are destined to be warriors. creatures of grimm fear these beings for the power they harness, making their fate inevitable. individuals with silver eyes have the ability to destroy these monsters in several ways; petrifying them where they stand, blinding them permanently, and even disintegrating them with a mere look. other than these traits, not much else is known extensively about these silver-eyed fighters.
inherent abilities:
fighting prowess: having been trained in one of remnant’s top notch academies, summer knows how to wield polearms (her specialty) as well as basic hand to hand combat. her strength lies in using extensions of herself– to have trust in the weapons she knows how to use best.
items / weapons:
sundered rose: an ax which doubles as a huntsman’s rifle, both black and gold in color.
starting ability: n/a
starting item: sundered rose
extra:
*holding her “worlds okayest mom mug”* yeah she’s normal
discord id: sunderedrose.

So Friday and Saturday, I went to planet comicon (Friday I was Ygritte from Game of Thrones, yesterday I was Leo Kliesen from Tekken). I was going to go today but I guess I'm getting too old - I was exhausted and decided to rest today. But yeah! Met some awesome people (RWBY VAs, anime VAs, cartoon VAs, etc) and had a blast hanging out with my friends ♡

Ice Planet Wedding Aesthetic
I was inspired after my Rose Garden one so I guess I gotta make more of these. Where as Ruby and Oscar’s wedding was more Christmasy and holiday oriented, Weiss and Neptune I feel would just be pure winter. Lots of blues and whites, and extravagant decor. Given that both are drama queens I thought it was fitting XD Don’t forget the doilies!
