Change-Jay Halstead Imagine
I feel like there’s not a lot of Jay imagines, so i’m hoping to change that.
      ~~
It was supposed to be simple. Ruzek made it seem like you and Jay would be in and out within minutes, but instead it had been almost an hour.
The club was pumping music, dancers hanging from cages and dressed in little to nothing. It made you feel over dressed in the pretty black dress you had on. “Ruze made it seem like this was going to be easy.” You murmured to your partner, rolling your eyes and crossing your leg as you sat on the barstool, watching the world go by. “Where the hell is he?”
Jay didn’t bother answering, just continued to stand beside you with his elbows against the countertop. He gave his usual grumble of acknowledgment that made you roll your eyes again. You two had been partners for eight months but trying to talk to Jay was like talking to a brick wall, he never spoke to you. Unless you two were arguing, which was the main reason why you two got thrown together.
Work this shit out Voight grumbled after finding you two arguing yet again outside of a dealer’s house You two are grown ass adults, for God’s sake. It was punishment, really. Jay had a very small and very cold heart, you didn’t see personality, you saw ex-military.
“Adam should have come instead,” Jay answered.
“And why is that?” you asked, turning your head to scan the crowd, trying to see if you can spot the dealer but came up with nothing.
“He’s a sexiest that beats on his wife and mistresses. He’ll take one look at you and walk away.” Jay explained, simply.
“Huh,” you breathed and looked up at the girls dancing in cages, “makes so much more sense.”
Jay huffed and you looked over to see him turn his head the other way but not before you saw an amused smirk on his face. You fought a smile before fluffing your hair and fixing your dress, “Well, you are introducing me as a buyer, who is also your girlfriend, aren’t you?”
Jay swung his eyes over to you. If you weren’t so aware of everything around you, you would have missed the way his eyes skated down to your legs, or how they watched your pull up the low neckline of your dress in some useless attempt to keep the girls covered, but you noticed. “What does that have to do with anything?”
You leaned into the bar, closing a bit of distance between the two of you. His cologne wafted up your noise as he stayed put, not moving away from you. “Guys like Cam like the power they have over women and like to see other guys use it. We don’t exactly come across as a couple, so when you see him, you better show him you’re exactly like him. Not some cold-hearted ex-ranger.”
Jay smirked at you, “I’m not cold hearted.”
You hummed, “I beg to differ.”
Jay tilted his head towards his collar, “Got eyes?”
Kevin’s low voice grumbled into your ear, “Not yet. Just your CI looking mighty nervous.”
Jay cleared his throat and nodded to himself, moving from his spot against the bar. He looked over his shoulder and scanned the crowd as he moved in front of you, you kept your eyes on him, wondering what the hell he was doing. He nudged your legs apart and slipped one between your knees, placing his hands against the bar on either side of you. Jay got so close to you that you pressed hard into the countertop just so you could look up into his eyes.
“This better for you?” he grumbled, making your heart jump inside your throat. You just knew the boys were going to have a field day with this wire. You’d never hear the end of it from Ruzek.
Jay lowered his head to the curve of your neck, now completely selling that you two were an item and not two people who looked forced to be at the bar together. Feeling you might topple over as the tip of his noise brushed your skin, you reached for the shirt against his stomach. Remembering that Jay was wearing a wire, and everyone could hear, you held your breath, afraid of gasping or breathing too heavily.
You felt the ghost of his lips against your neck and you fisted his shirt, your eyes fluttering shut and forgetting momentarily where the hell you two were. Jay’s lips fell into a smirk and he pressed harder into you, forgetting his surroundings as well.
“He’s coming,” someone muttered, patting Jay’s back. You pried your eyes open to see Jay’s CI passing by you two and still looking like he’d rather catch a bullet than be here.
Jay didn’t move from you but lifted his head to scan the crowd while suddenly looking like he belonged here and wasn’t some cop. He looked relaxed as he stood in front of you, breathing evenly and his shoulders releasing the tension they had been holding all night. You stared at the freckles of his face just as he looked back down at you, wearing that stupid smirk.
Your lips parted, his name on your tongue, but all you could do was swallow it as his hand slid up your neck and into the hair at the back of your head. A gasp, the one you had been worried would slip out, did just that as his fingers wove through your hair tightly and tilted your head up towards his.
When you implied that Jay needed to stop treating you like he was touching you with a ten-foot pole, you didn’t exactly mean this. His lips pressed to yours in a heavy kiss, one that made you hold onto his shirt with both hands. You didn’t have any alcohol, but he was making your head spin like you had just downed shots of tequila. His lips moved against yours, his teeth biting into your bottom lip. His body oozed heat, his skin burning through his shirt and scorching your hands.
Jay’s fingers gripped your hair and pulled back. You felt yourself sway as you sucked in the stale air of the club, finally prying your eyes open. Jay breathed heavily with his eyes on your lips, looking like he was ready to lean in for another taste. He licked his bottom lips, “How was that for cold hearted?”
“A for effort,” you huffed out.
“Ryan, this is Cam.” Jay’s CI spoke, forcing the two of you to look away from one another and at his CI, who stood beside the guy that the two of you were going to buy from and put in prison the second he walks out.
~~
“You two certainly played the part, huh, Y/L/N?”
“Shut up, Ruze.” You and Hailey muttered as you two stood in the locker room. You had finally taken off the dress and got into something more comfortable. Like jeans. And a t-shirt with a neckline that touched your collarbones.
Ruzek grinned and tapped the lockers, “See you ladies at Molly’s?”
“Yeah,” Hailey answered, and you nodded along with her, even though you weren’t sure. Ruzek walked out of the locker room after throwing one last wink your way. Hailey got up and picked up her bag, “See you?”
“See you,” you smiled as she walked out, leaving you alone. You slipped on your boots and stood up, packing away your heels and dress.
“Hey.” Jay breathed and you turned your head to see him leaning against the lockers with his hands in his pockets. “Going to Molly’s?”
“I don’t know,” you answered, zipping up your bag and hanging the strap on your shoulder.
“Come on, let’s grab a beer. I’ll buy.”
You felt your stomach stir at the memory of the kiss as you two stared at one another. You crumbled and smiled, “I mean… if you’re buying.”
Jay laughed softly and pushed off the locker, “Hurry up before I change my mind.”
You laughed and followed out after him, feeling something change between the two of you.
