ohh this is a cool one

falls asleep on the couch: lapis lazuli. rutile is known to fall asleep in weirder places, like the floor, the kitchen table, the car, while standing up...

makes friends with the neighbors: neither of them, though lapis will chat with the neighbors from time to time just to meddle into someone else’s business. rutile thinks it’s a waste of time

is the adventurous eater: rutile. lapis is an extremely picky eater and rutile is one of the few people that know about it. as for rutile, after a 36 hour shift you’ll learn to eat almost anything to survive

hogs the covers at night: lapis, and they kick in their sleep as well. maybe it’s a good thing rutile isn’t home at night that often

forgets to do the dishes: rutile. can’t be trusted with house chores, sometimes they’l cook but that’s about it. cleaning the kitchen or the dishes after that wasn’t part of the deal

tries to surprise their partner more often: lapis lazuli, though not always in a ... pleasant way. they just want to have fun

leaves dirty laundry on the floor: depends. if it’s the weekend or if rutile isnt working, then it can be either one of them, if it’s a working day then it’s rutile, they dont have the time to do laundry

stays up til 2 AM reading: lapis. sometimes they’ll do it to wait until rutile comes back home so they can ask rutile about their day and maybe cheer them up or cuddle them if they had it rough

sings in the shower: lapis, and they’re extremely loud

takes the selfies: lapis again, they do it without warning, to annoy rutile, but truth is they like to look at the pics when rutile is working, it keeps them company

Lapis hummed and tapped their pen down on the table. It was 7:45 pm, Rutile was supposed to be home 15 minutes ago and they haven’t heard anything from them. The most logical solution is that they were on their way home. They could always call them, but a whole plethora of things could happen. They thought about calling them, but it probably wouldn’t end too well.

They hummed and glanced at their phone, nothing yet. They tapped their pen more and glanced at the door. Nothing. Did they forget to text them back? Possibly, but nothing they could really do about that.

Lapis stayed where they were and waited to hear something, anything from them. It wasn’t until almost an hour later — 8:30 pm sharp — when they heard the door open. “RURU!!”

“Don’t call me that!”

They smiled and hopped up from their chair with a hum. They happily trotted to the front door where their lover was.

Rutile looked like they had seen some shit. Their hair was all messy and had some bags under their eyes. They also had the look that roughly translated into ‘I want to quit’. They looked so tired, but so hot. Or, that’s what Lapis thought.

Lapis wrapped their arms around them and put their head on their shoulder. Rutile raised an eyebrow and looked at them curiously. “What did you do?”

“Nothing, just waited for you to come home.”

The doctor shrugged them off and took off their jacket. “Sorry… I had to stay behind.”

“It’s fine, I’m just glad you’re home.”

“Yea…”

Lapis caressed their cheeks before giving them a soft kiss. Rutile happily obliged, moving their lips against theirs and put a hand on theirs. The kiss was soft and gentle, nothing too rough.

The blue gem was the one to break the kiss. They moved away from the doctors soft lips and kissed the side of their mouth. They made a trail of kisses up to their cheek. They let out a sigh and smiled against their skin. “I love you.”

Rutile smiled and put a hand in their hair. Their fingers wrapped around their blue locks. “I love you too.”

“Good…”

Lapis smiled and gave them another kiss on the lips. It went back to before gentle and soft kisses. Every now and again, they’d pull apart and confess their love again and again. It was simply soft, sweet, and gentle - or at least it should’ve been.

It wasn’t much longer before it grew more passionate. Lapis found themselves sandwiched between the wall and Rutile. Their hands were entangled in their hair. Their bodies were against each other, it was warm and comforting. It always was.

Rutile pulled away and kissed their cheek multiple times. They made a trail down their neck, moving their shirt off their shoulder. Lapis smiled and put her head on their shoulder. They ran their back as the doctor focused on them. They let out a sigh and left a couple of kisses on the nape of their neck. “Are you hungry?”

“Hm?”

“Are you hungry?” Lapis repeated, looking at the other curiously.

Rutile thought for a bit before they nodded with a sigh. “Yea, I am.”

Lapis smiled and gave them a kiss on the cheek. “Then let’s finish later, okay? In the meantime,” they stopped to poke their nose. “Let’s figure out what we want to eat.”

Rutile smiled softly and nodded. “Alright.”

rutile’s head jerked up quickly at that exclamation. originally they wouldn’t be too quick to react, but recently, anytime someone stated that, they felt a chill at the idea of who. hearing the other gems rushing outside they looked out themselves, grabbing their tools as they ran with them.

looking over everyone as they did, looking ahead they could quickly account who was where, except for...for...

looking to the airship getting further away they through their daggers towards it, hoping for some sort of impact as they felt their breath exhilarating with anxiety as no impact was made. they watched as all the gems threw their swords at it; none of them could reach. not even bortz was able to reach as they all watched it disappear.

“...where...where are they?!” they exclaimed as they pushed past the other gems, looking through all of them as they saw a slimmer of silver hair. going towards them they looked to see ghost, hair disheveled, face slightly torn as they held onto lapis’s head tightly.

their face cracked as the realization hit. “...no...”

“i’m...sorry.”

“no, please! no, no no no no no!” they exclaimed, face cracking further until most of their powder came off, falling to their knees as they held their face in their hands. shaking as jade announced sensei’s late arrival, only sounding muddled as they only heard his steps through the grass, feeling a hand on their head they moved it immediately as they looked to see him closer to ghost with a hand on their head.

“my apologies.” he stated with a forlorn expression as ghost nodded. “i wasn’t fast enough...or smart enough to...but, they’ll come back. i know i-”

“HAH!” rutile blurted it out as the others looked in surprise, slowly rising up as they continued. “that’s...stupid thinking. that doesn’t...change the fact their GONE now does it?” they asked, hair disheveled as ghost looked down. “i know, but, they can still...”

“still WHAT?” they snapped as they took a step closer to them. “you knew they were an airhead with their overthinking, your their PARTNER how do you not?!”

“i thought-”

“YOU THOUGHT WRONG!” they screamed as the group went silent, ghost’s face cracking as they gently held out lapis’s head to them. “i’m...i know, you guys were close. please, take it before my arms break.” they stated, their arms showing cracks as rutile took their head, eyes closed and face in calm ease as if they were asleep.

their breathing became heightened as they gasped, holding their head close as they gently moved down to lay down, holding it as their body was crackling like ice. almost immediately ghost fell along suite, breathing in a similar fashion rutile was as one of their arms cracked off.

kneeling down gently sensei petted both their heads, nodding to jade who looked back to the group. “rright. come on guys. lets go get some bags. it’ll, get em some time.” they stated as they all walked off mumbling to themselves as the grassy lands was only filled with the autumn wind’s flowing lapis’s bangs gently.

lapis hummed as they read their book in lap, the olive tree waving lightly by the wind as their grey shaded owl sat on their head curiously reading along. “these humans have an interesting imagination for their entertainment.” they giggled, a small wheat branch falling to their open paged book.

looking up they smirked at the golden eyes staring down at them. “usually one gives flowers.” they snarked playfully as rutile huffed. “better to give someone something useful then pretty, is it not?”

“hmmmm, why not both?”

“...is wheat not pretty?” lapis laughed at that as their owl puffed out it’s chest to the other. “ghost silly, go check on your egg.” lapis waved gently to ghost as they hooted and flew off to an olive branch, clashing their wing however to rutile enough for them to sneeze from it.

“i still have a feeling that one doesn’t like me.” they stated as they sat next to lapis. “well of course they don’t. their my confidant.” they smiled as rutile chuckled lightly. “least your blunt.”

“i learned from the best.”

“heeyyyy.” they pouted as lapis giggled, laying their head on the bluehead’s shoulder, which was humorous to lapis due to their height.

“put the book away.” they stated as lapis raised a brow. “why?”

“have me in your lap instead.”

“and if i refuse?”

rutile quickly tried to grab it, only for lapis to grab it and put it above their head, leaning back lightly as rutile tried to reach. “come on the crops were hard to keep track on i need a rest.”

“well maybe i wanna read more then that.” they giggled as both fell to the ground, or moreso lapis did as rutile fell on their chest. lapis giggling as rutile moved to kiss their lips softly before lying down on them. once their laughter subsided lapis gently put the open book to the right side of their head and laid their head down sighing.

“i guess humans learn their entertainment from somewhere hehe.”

walking down the subway’s steps rutile and lapis looked at the line annoyed. “god, why is it always like this?” rutile grumbled as lapis latched onto their arm. “oh i’m sure it’ll move fast.”

unfortunately for the two it did not move as fast. once it came to their turns rutile moved to get their ticket, punch it and quickly re-meeting lapis at the train’s front door. once it opened both walked in, rutile taking the last seat available while lapis took their lap.

“god, that took too much longer then it needed to.” they grumbled. “least that ticket puncher was quick.”

“ticket p-…that guy, he’s punching tickets?” lapis asked as rutile nodded. “why?”

“i snuck on without a ticket.” they whispered, leading to rutile nearly shrieking in the full subway car. “WHA-…what!?” they whispered as lapis giggled. “i couldn’t see one.”

“and i thought i was impatient.”

“oh least we didn’t take too long.”

the red head yawned as they walked to the front door. scratching the back of their head as they opened the door their eye’s widened at the blue haired lapis smiling to them.

“did i wake you?” they asked, padpa looking absolutely confused but shaking their head lightly. “naaah...uh...well...yeaaaah maybe a lil.” they mumbled as lapis giggled a bit. “suppose i need to remember not everyones an early bird.” they joked as padpa moved to the side allowing them to enter.

“uhh can i get ya some cof-er-tea? water?” they tried to guess as lapis amused themself to their attempts. “i’ll be fine for now but thank you.” looking around the living room they found a short haired blonde fast asleep on the couch, immediately leading them to sit on a chair closeby as padpa threw a plastic cup at them.

“ello wake up.” they stated as yellow quickly shot up. “WH-ha-how where did-” they soon found the bluenette on the chair. “...padpa i thought we were gonna wait on the whole surrogate?”

“we are dumb dumb ya gotta wake up more.” they chuckled as they took a seat. “this is ruti’s...uhh...”

“call it whatever, you’ll be close to right.” they shrugged as both looked a nodded. “riiight. so, uhm, wha brings ya over?”

rutile’s heels tapped to the cement as they ran. they knew lapis was gonna do something like this but so early in the morning!? their running decreased as it got through them more and more, the feeling that they...shouldn’t stop whatever was going on.

looking to the sunrise they walked to the cemented wall next to the sidewalk, laying on it’s side as they watched the sun illuminating over the beach. weirdly feeling some sort of...relief? calm? whatever it was, it’s something they really didn’t mind despite what they knew was probably going down.

they heard a couple footsteps from behind them as they tried to sneak a cigarette to their lips. “my my, always trying to sneak that nasty habit huh ruti?” they grimaced as they looked back to find yellow, padpa and lapis looking at them.

“stole my line.” lapis whispered to yellow as padpa took a step closer to the doctor, who immediately went back to staring at the beach when they did. “don’t gotta hide from me ruti.” they smirked to them as rutile burrowed their head into their arms. “i just...didn’t want to make it awkward.”

as lapis watched the two they reminiced on the last portion of their conversation during their visit.

“rutile’s...kinda...not wanna say clingy but...they do gotta complex kinda.” they remembered padpa stating awkwardly. “i mean, our relation though is probably different from yours though.” they chuckled a little at that. it wasn’t too different. it seemed the opposite, rutile trying to distance themself for them, as if worried on getting too close.

how casually they talked with them, was much different from what padpa had said about being clingy. and to say they were jealous was an understatement. this double sworded concept of their clingy-ness they wished for atleast the good part of it. ah but every good has it’s bad they suppose. even though the darker part of themself would say it wanted that bad with it just to have the good part of it truly showed how complex this double sword is.

“i’ve always chased someone away with who i am.“

ah, how could they forget that core comment they thought. such a shame, six months later and they realized the trouble they didn’t even take into consideration. watching them hug they felt another thought pop up.

“i want to…so badly. i want…a second chance. a chance, to change.”

“…then that’s good for me. afterall you won’t chase me away so easily~.”

and here they thought that would’ve automatically saved this problem as they re-thought back to these moments. pregnancy or not it’s not much of an excuse to forget such a problem; the conflict of being too close versus too far apart. only three months left, they wouldn’t have enough time to help through this, even the nine months however wouldn’t completely fix this fear the doctor had they speculated.

as their thoughts dozed away to these unnerved feelings they were brought back by the taller hugging them so suddenly.

“heh, awkward? i mean, okay maybe doing this while ya got a preggers partner is a little bit awkward but it’s not too bad compared to other things.” padpa chuckled as rutile burrowed their face a little. padpa hesitantly giving their back a pat causing them to jump lightly.

“look, rutile i get it. i get, why you were so clingy. i get, why your acting like a hermit but, ya gotta let this go.” padpa stated as rutile shivered lightly. “...how?”

“just...don’t dwell on it.”

“if i don’t, then i’ll go back to being clingy again. so much inside me is screaming to hug you right now. and i’m scared, that i’ll never let go, or that i’ll let go and it’ll be the last time i ever had you close and regret letting go.” they shivered more, choking up as they finished. “i was...so ugly like that.” they choked up more as tears streamed down their cheeks.

“hey, seeing it means ya aren’t like how ya were before-”

“still, this doesn’t fix the problem.” they looked to the red head gritting their teeth through their tears. “i’ve...i’ve built myself around you. i’ve seen, so many dead bodies, and i was desensitized, but the idea of you becoming one of them, i was so scared. and then ya got better, and i thought i’d be alright. now i’m just worried anytime a call comes in and it’s you, or them, and i...i can only get through the day trying to distance myself.”

“....has it been working well?”

“...no...but it keeps me cool under pressure.”

“wha bout your partner?” rutile’s eyes looked down to their shoes as they stood up straight. “...ruti-”

“i’m...still scared.” they mumbled lightly. “of going into either extreme. i’m scared, of losing them both.”

“your gonna lose em faster if you don’t find a middle ground.” padpa stated, pulling the bruenette to them in a hug despite them wiggling in surprise. “wh- pa-”

“ya need to stop worrying bout either extreme. if ya wanna change, if ya wanna make this one last, then just open up like this.” they stated, feeling rutile stop and hiccup into their chest. once they felt their hiccuping lessen they moved to pull them away gently. “now go hug lappy.” they stated, padparascha red eyes meeting golden yellows.

moving them physically to walk into lapis’s direction, rutile slowly took a step, another, and another till they quickly sprinted to them, slowly down enough to hug them gently, getting around their swolen abdomen.

“...huh?”

“i’m...gonna make that change. i’m sorry for procrastinating for too long.”

slowly the bluenette hugged around their neck, on their tip toes as they felt tears pricking at the end of their eyes.

“my apologies for procrastinating on helping you. but you can still not chase me away easily my dear~.”

Lapis woke up to a loud knocking on their door, a familiar voice screaming their name. They grumbled angrily as they got up and walked through all of their spell books and miscellaneous objects lying around. They got to the door and opened it, a smile forming on their lips as the saw the familiar face from one of the people from the village. “Rutile! Long time no see! How-“

“We don’t have talk,” the said briskly, moving past them and inside their messy cottage as they closed the door. “Someone found out that you’re a witch and told the village. They’re getting stuff and coming up to kill you.”

Lapis looked at them in shock before they plopped down on a chair with a sigh. “Ah, that’s a shame.” They muttered as they shooed away some dust flying around.

Rutile didn’t seem too impressed with their reaction, “why aren’t you more upset? Shouldn’t you, you know, grab you stuff and get of here before they catch you.”

They shrugged, “I mean, I could. But what’s the point I that...” they whined a the sunk in their chair and started pouting like a toddler. “I’d have to go through everything here, then I’d have to actually go outside and into nature. Plus by the time i have all of my stuff, I’d be dead already. And not to mention that it won’t be fun no matter where I go cause you aren’t there with me.”

The doctors apprentice’s lips turned in a frown, their eyebrows furrowing as they looked them worriedly. They sat down next to them and held their hand in their own as they looked at them. “Well, what are you going to do?”

“Babe, I’m a witch. I can do whatever I want to chase them away and leave us alone.” Lapis said confidently before they hopped up from their chair and went to the other side of their cottage. “Now stop worrying, there’s something cool that I want to show you.”

Rutile looked at them before they hopped up and followed them to where they stood and looked at what they had to show them. And as they bonded over what weird spells that they found in spell books, the both of them ignored the chaos going outside. Meteors striked the town, destroying everything but the two in the witches cottage on top of the hill.

lapis hummed as they read through one of the few maternal books from their backroom shelves. perhaps some of these would be nice for rutile to catch up on they suppose.

“lapis.” they looked up to see their fellow co-worker they caringly called “ghost” looking at them with that piercingly soft eye. “your, ‘story circle’ is coming up.” they stated, lapis’s smile growing as they got up. “thank you my ghosty.” they cooed as they left the desk, giving ghost a headpat as they started leaving, ghost’s eye lingering on the already 3 month stomach of the bluenette’s.

as they watched them leave ghost could feel that familiar emptiness they’ve had ever since the news came. looking at the other putting on such a happy and parental look to the youngers, it made the feeling lessen but grow at the same time.

“still not over it?” they looked to see their twin glaring at them with books in their hands in need of shelving. “and you are?” they teased, cairngorm’s tanned cheeks turning a shade darker. “not-not like we can do anything bout it.”

“well, we could always congratulate their partner.” cairngorm raised an eyebrow at their twin. “…congratulate? you?” ghost smiled innocently looking.

letting out a puff of smoke rutile sighed as the cold autumn wind blew their smoke and hair lightly, making their cheeks redden from the cold. it wouldn’t be for another while till lapis came home. time didn’t feel like time to them though, just in general. to think, six more months till they’d be a parent, and to think this all happened even, it threw their mind off so much they wondered if they can switch brains with someone else.

looking down they could see something red on the backyard of the bottom floor-

quickly rutile put out the butt of their cigarrete, ushering through the apartment to throw it away and pulling out a mint. ‘their so early�� they thought as they opened the door. “oh wel-” they were cut off screaming as they felt themself tackled by two bodies and before they could process they felt the feeling of a knife to a side of their neck while feeling an arm giving a loose chokehold on them.

“so YOUR the partner in this crime!” the one putting em in the chokehold stated, glaring down at them as rutile did the same. “THE FUCK ARE YOU-”

“sibling please now, lets not be too rash on the one who had our lapis~.” the knife weilder detested giving off a falsely innocent smile. “my they really picked a nice one though~.”

“OKAY WHAT THE FU-”

“i’m hooo-…oh.” all three looked to see the familiar bluenette  looking at them with actual surprise along with them. “…ah ruti, glad to see your making accustomed to my co-workers-”

“ACCUSTOMED?!?! THEY AMBUSHED ME!!!”

“well i never said they were very subtle now are you ghosty? cairny?” at that rutile felt both leave their side and soften a bit. “yes mx lapis.” they both replied almost creepily to the doctor, moving away and getting headpats from lapis as rutile started to reconsider everything.

“so, their your co-workers?” they asked as lapis smiled lightly. “well, mostly. i’m their elder of course. teaching them my techniques and all.” rutile hummed as they sipped the minted tea lapis made, watching the twins watching some video on cairn’s phone. “do these techniques involve ambush or something?”

“you know what i mean.” lapis giggled. “sides, maybe it’ll be a lesson to quit that nasty habit of yours.” rutile pouted as they took a sip of tea. “i knew the mint flavor was on purpose.” they grumbled as lapis looked to them smug. “their pretty protective of you though.”

“well i am their elder. i guess you could choke it up to maybe more than looking up to me though.” they hummed as rutile put the cup down and nodded. “you trying not to be a boast?”

“well, i know i’m very pretty too, it didn’t stop you afterall~.” rutile could feel a blush to their cheeks and a fake gag sound from the other side of the table. glaring at it they could see both twins looking at the phone again. little shits.

“so, what have we learned today you two?” lapis asked as both twins looked to the floor.

“don’t ambush people because they like you.” cairn grumbled. “jealousy is unhealthy.” ghost mumbled aswell as lapis smiled. “good, now remember, your closing the library and doing nightshift for a week got it?”

“yes mx lapis.” both replied leaving rutile surprised with this. “good, now have a safe trip.” they waved both off as they waved in response as they left, lapis closing the door once they couldn’t see them.

“huh.” they looked to rutile curiously. “huh?”

“just, didn’t expect you to act so…parent-y to em.” rutile waved off as lapis smirked. “i’ve been reading up.” they stated as they reached for their work satchel on the counter. “speaking of,” rutile looked and felt themself being given a few books. “i think these’d be good reading material to catch up and replace that habit of yours.”

“your still not gonna lemme live that down do you?”

“my dear rutile that’d be preposterous. i can’t let you live anything down~.” they giggled as rutile pouted with a pink blush admonishing their cheeks. “you make me mad with how sexy you make your sentences sound.”

“how mad~?”

“mad enough to not give you what your wanting~.” they stated as they walked off, opening one book in one hand and holding the others under their arm as lapis giggled. “so cruel, i like it~.”

“mx lapis!” lapis looked up from their book to see the twins ghost and cairn at the hospital room entrance. immediately the two ran to both their sides hugging them, ghost bumping rutile a little as they gave an annoyed grunt. “oi excuse me.” they grumbled as ghost looked to lapis. “hearing you were here had us worried.”

“ruti did you send them a scary text bout me being here?”

“i just told em why ya weren’t at work!”

“on my phone?”

“uh...”

lapis rolled their eyes patting both their heads. “it’s just close to time, i’m alright though.” they stated as both sighed in relief. all three turning heads as a buzzing came from rutile’s phone. “damnit. therapist appointment shit i forgot.”

“it’s alright.”

“maybe i should postp-”

“do that and your not naming the baby.”

“lapiiis that’s not fair!”

“your not getting out of it. just go i’ll be fine.” rutile groaned inwardly. moving to kiss their head and pet their stomach lightly. “don’t go anywhere.” they fake threatened as they walked out, passing by padpa and yellow in the guest chairs of the room.

“yeah ruti good ol godparents got this.” yellow stated as rutile sighed. “to be honest i trust those twins with this more then you.”

“ruuuude!”

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEIR HAVING THE BABY?!” rutile snapped as the twins held their ears while padpa shrugged. “i mean, how else do i say their in labor?”

“how long?!”

“after you left.”

“THAT WAS AN HOUR AGO!! AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ME WHY?!”

"because you sent us a scary text of our lapis.” cairn spitefully stated as yellow playfully pouted. “and ya had no trust in me if i was left with em.” rutile glared at padpa who shrugged. “lapis told me not to text you or you’d postpone again.”

“DAMN RIGHT I WOULD!” they stated as they tried to open the doors. “who keeps these doors locked?!” they stated as padpa and yellow took both their shoulders, dragging them to a seat. “just chill ruti, this takes a long time anyways.” padpa stated as they sat them down, rutile sighing in annoyance as they all sat. “fine. but if anything happens i’m rushing in.”

“do you have obligation to do that?” yellow asked as rutile glared at them. “i’m a doctor of course i do.”

“more like a quack.”

rutile glared at the ticking clock, looking to their right to the twins who were on their phones, and on their left to find padpa sleeping with yellow hiding behind them fake sleeping as if it’d prevent them from clocking their head despite it being two hours since then.

tapping their heal they looked to the door and light above it, waiting for the door to open, or the light to turn off, anything to get them to stop worrying. despite it being three hours now, and knowing it takes long, they couldn’t help but the thoughts rushing in.

‘what if something goes wrong?’

‘what if we lose them both.’

‘lose one of them?’

‘we won’t be able to save them.’

‘should’ve rainchecked today.’

they held their head as they looked down to their feet. they were hating the sound of the clock more. they jumped as their shoulder getting patted, finding cairn looking to them.

“mx lapis will be fine. stop overthinking.” they stated firmly, gaining ghost to look in their direction. “they read up on everything at the library on this. give them some credit.” they stated quietly as rutile moved to put their head on their hands holding eachother firmly. the smoker in them begging to go outside for one, it’s been three months just one. yet the comforting feeling of cairngorm’s hand on their shoulder led the doctor to stay put. taking out their ipod they plugged their earbuds in and clicked on their shuffle, leaning back and closing their eyes.

as their last song faded the sound of the door opening caused rutile’s eyes to shoot wide open as they put their ipod away and standing up. “oi oi wake up wake up.” they stated as they moved padpa and cairn’s shoulders firmly. “actually unless their family you can go in first.” the doctor stated, rutile nodding lightly as they moved inside.

shyly walking in once they saw the bluenette look to them in surprise and then look away. “deary me, i guess it’s better you see me this disheveled.” they chuckled lightly as rutile raised a brow. “you? disheveled? have you not seen me on days off?”

“fair.” they giggled as rutile took a seat, looking over the infant in their hands. “and you said i shouldnt’ve postponed.”

“well you shouldnt’ve, and you didn’t so now you have naming privileges.” they smirked smugly as rutile pouted. “still. next time i’ll be here.”

“eheh don’t push your luck dear, not till it doesn’t feel like my entire body is on fire anymore.”

“fine ya got me there.” they chuckled, petting both heads lightly. “i’ll...do my best for you two.”

lapis smirked as they patted their head. “same to you two aswell.”

“oh?”

rutile’s head came out of the clouds as they watched lapis look and walk towards the red head. “ah a cohort of rutile’s yes?” they asked as padpa rubbed the back of their head. “eheh kinda? names padpa though.”

“lapis.” they stated as they offered their hand, padpa moving to shake it. “ah nice ta meet ya! soooo whose the lucky papa-”

before they respond rutile quickly put their hands on lapis’s shoulders. “uhhh eheh ii just forgot wweee have to go somewhere, urgent, now thanks pad’s bye!” they stated nervously as they pushed the bluehead past the red head further off.

“...oh...okaaaay?”

rutile bent their head down in shame as lapis drank their tea. “i...am a coward.”

“i mean i could’ve told you that.”

“no heeeeelp.” they whined as they held their head in their hands. “i mean you kinda didn’t ask for help, just sat there when we got back and started groaning.” lapis stated as they sipped their tea.

“i mean, okay that wasn’t THE BEST but, well, it’s just,...”

“that their your partner you broke up with?” rutile looked up guiltily. “yeaaaaah.”

“and it’d be awkward for them to find out you knocked up a one night stand recently after the breakup and that you stayed with them?”

“...y’know i think tea is bad for you.” they stated as lapis got up walking to the sink. “i’m not wrong though no?” they looked with a knowing smirk as rutile looked to the ground.

“...it’s just...’m not even married yet.”

“neither am i. point?”

“just...how could i go about it? and would they even...would they even forgive me?” they mumbled the question, not enough for lapis not to hear though as they gave a light tap to rutile’s head.

“and here i thought i was the over-thinker.” they stated, gaining the doc’s eyes at them confused. “they saw you drag me away. it’s doubtful they couldn’t put two and two together, unless you think they didn’t get it.”

“no i don’t! padpa’s smarter then they let on i-...your right.” they mumbled looking to the ground. “i just...was so sudden i didn’t know how to tell them.”

“i mean i like the blunt approach of knocking up a one night stand-”

“no i...don’t know how to tell them that i...really...” their hands shook lightly as they grabbed their hand. “that...i really love you alot.”

for once they were quiet, only to smirk lightly. “well aren’t you sappy~.”

quietly getting dressed lapis quickly left the bedroom as the sunrise came through the windows. looking to the yellow book they took a picture of a page open, slipping their shoes on and leaving quietly.
