Dickies 40th Anniversary Tour
Wednesday, July 12, 2017 “Dickies 40th Anniversary Tour: The Fleece, Bristol” Last Thursday evening at the Fleece was a particularly special night. Don’t think I’m going to tiptoe around the elephant in the pit, because I’m not. It was the first show that the Dickies played after they became the focal point of an internet emasculation. Once again, the sides were divided by “pc” standards instead of basic human ones. I’m not going to reiterate any of it because we ALL know what happened, but I will weigh in as a liberal older gal in the scene. I don’t know if I would have reacted any differently had a man been standing in front of me with a sign saying “Stupid woman go home, you’re nothing but an old whore!” If this had happened to me, I probably would’ve ended up in the back of a squad car, tout de suite! Besides all of the events of the previous week, friends of the band came out to support with their wives, kids,(yes, KIDS!!) and mates some even holding signs that said “I protest!.” (All this tongue-in-cheek, as it should be.) The first band to support the Dickies was White Trash. They were a powerful bunch of youngsters with cool haircuts, and who also happened to be exceptionally talented instrumentalists. You can find them at https://www.facebook.com/whitetrashband/. Next up to lend their skills to the evening was Borrowed Time. I’m proud to say that these folks are great friends of mine. I’ve been lucky enough to see them perform a few times this past year, and each one has been as exceptional as the last. Bare-footed front man, Rob, always gives an excellent show. His gravel-y, Tom Wait-ish-vocals, hits you hard and keeps your undivided attention throughout the set. You may have to help extract him from between the speakers at some point. Trust me, I’ve had “…one day…one more day…” in my head for DAYS!! If you’re heading to Rebellion this year, you can catch them on Sunday August 6th at 12:30 in the Casbah. https://www.facebook.com/events/1938679043078219/ You can also get their latest album at http://www.borrowedtimeband.co.uk/. And now, what we were all waiting for…The Dickies! I’ve also had the distinct pleasure of seeing these guys several times in the past few years. To do anything for 40 years is commendable, to get onstage and pour out one of the most entertaining shows is far past commendable and on to the extraordinary. Despite it all, nothing was skipped, put on the back burner, or diluted with PC sparkling spring water! Thank the gods of punk!! This was only the beginning of their 40th anniversary tour. You can check the remaining schedule at http://www.thedickies.com/ I’m not giving any other details because you’ll have to get off your backsides and go see them for yourself. I could only hope that I’m down front for the 50th. Thank you, Dickies! #pnxnews #thoughtsfromthepit #ruthiekruthless #thedickies #borrowedtime #whitetrashband #mediablitzwerule
