disclaimer: I don't have patterns for Runaan's clothes, just pointers, because I was winging it at that point x_x

EDIT: if anyone wants to try to make these and struggles at some point (or needs those additional patterns), feel free to just reach out to me and I'll do what I can to help. Don't worry, you won't be overstepping at all and I'll more than gladly help a fellow TDP fan!

okay, so for the BODIES I used a pattern from a book called "Crochet Cute Dolls With Mix-and-Match Outfits" by Miya:

it's a purchasable book so I'd rather not share it publicly 👀

I'm sharing my own patterns below:

EARS

Sc 4 in a magic ring (4). Slst into the first st and ch 1.

Sc in each st (4). Slst and ch 1.

Sc, inc 2, sc (6). Slst and ch 1.

Sc in each st (6). Slst and ch 1.

Sc 2, inc 2, sc 2 (8). Slst and ch 1.

Sc in each st (8). Slst and ch 1.

Sc 3, inc 2, sc 3 (10). Slst and ch 1.

I also used a little bit of wire to help accentuate the curvature of the horns. I did play with increases and decreases in the pattern so they do curve on their own but I thought the wire might be a nice failsafe.

Here are patterns for all of ETHARI'S CLOTHES:

It was my first time making patterns and I was in a bit of a rush to finish him before his birthday so they're not perfect, but if you ever need help with them, just hmu, we'll figure it out.

I first made his boots and then his pants in order to make sure I didn't mess up the length. Then the crop top and finally the belt to fill the space in between. Now I'm thinking that perhaps removing one row of single crochets from the crop top and adding it to the belt might give him a look more accurate to his original design but I think the way I did it he also turned out okay so it's just an option.

There are clasps at the back of his crop top and belt, and on Runaan's vest. The flap is sewn onto the belt but if you want it to be removable, just add more rows in purple and stuff it in between the belt and the doll while closing the clasp.

Unfortunately, for RUNAAN'S CLOTHES, the notes were a mess and I don't really have anything. They're similar to Ethari's with slight changes:

his pants don't have the increases, they're just sc for ~7 or 8 rows, then joining and continuing just like with Ethari's (also hmu if you need a diagram showing how to join the pant legs);

his boots are the same as Ethari's up to row 12, in row 13 I did bigger stitches in the middle - go from sc to hdc, then dc, back to hdc and continue with sc (if you want that part to be higher, go sc, hdc, dc, tc, dc, hdc, sc); then for row 14 change colour to brown and slst around;

his vest is a foundation chain of the desired length (I think I did about 36 but it ended up being a bit too loose - it all depends on your own doll's size), then 4 rows of dc - but in the 3rd row I did 2 dc-2-tog (about 8-9 sts from both edges, right below the arms holes, 1 per arm hole), then in row 5 I did ~8 dc, then ch 4/5, skip 3/4 (arm hole), dc 8, ch 4/5, skip 4/5 and dc in each st until the end of the row. Join yarn at the edge of the arm hole and ch ~8 and slst into the other corner for the double strap. (I have a similar diagram to show more or less what's going on)

PENDANTS

In purple, sc 6 in a magic ring, but while doing the 6th, do an invisible colour change to gray (6).

Slst around (6). Slst into the first st and fasten off, weave in the ends.

Then, join yellow yarn in that last slst and ch 12 (add or remove chains to get the desired length) and fasten off but leave a long tail end to tie it at the back. Repeat the same process in the same slst. Then, you can tie the ends at the back, make knots and trim.

HORN CUFFS

Ch 14. Slst into the first ch, ch 1.

Sc 14 (14). Slst into the first st and ch 1. Flip so you work normally.

Sc 3, dec, sc 4, dec, sc 3 (12). Slst and ch 1.

Sc in each st (12). Slst and ch 1.

Sc 4, hdc, dc 2, hdc, sc 4 (12). Slst and ch 1.

Slst around (12). Fasten off and weave in the ends. For Ethari's cuffs, make a few vertical sts in turquoise somewhere in the middle at the front for the gems (wrap the yarn vertically a few times around a stitch).

HORN TIPS (ETHARI)

Sc 5 in a magic ring (5). Slst into the first st and ch 1.

Sc in each st (5). Slst and ch 1.

Inc, sc 2, inc, sc (7). Slst and ch 1.

Sc in each st (7). Slst. Fasten off and weave in the ends. You might have to stretch it out with something like a pen tip to make sure they fit.

I'm stuck with a brace on the wrist of my dominant hand because I've been pushing myself too hard, and being a physically disabled artist with ADHD is never fun, so! Since I am bored, have a lil thing of me (once again) taking the Artist Woes out on Ethari.

Ethari is making Rayla lunch when his wrist starts acting up. He doesn't think much of it because he has work to get back to. But later that evening, the soreness still hasn't gone away.

The next morning, it's feeling a little better. Good! He's behind on work because his wrist was being a pain the day before. So he throws himself back into his work, barely coming up for air between being behind on commissions and the Hyperfocusing.

As he's putting things away for the night, his wrist starts hurting worse than it did the night before. But never mind that, he has a daughter to tuck into bed and then a husband to cuddle.

Ethari continues to ignore his worsening wrist--and eventually, elbow--pain and continues throwing himself into his work. His wrist has been setting him back, but he's almost caught up... until Runaan can't take it anymore.

Noticing the signs of both a burnout and an injury, Runaan forces his husband to take care of himself. He has Ethari put on one of the wrist braces he has (that Ethari made Runaan himself), makes Ethari tea, and brings Ethari things to do that don't require his dominant hand.

Ethari is exhausted, but he's also bored. He is so, so bored. If he doesn't have Runaan's brace on, he's icing his wrist, sleeping, or showering. If he isn't sitting doing nothing, he's pacing.

After a couple days, he just needs to do something.

So he just starts following Runaan around and watching him lovingly because there's no better thing to do when you're sick than be bisexual for your husband.

y'all seemed to quite like the little crocheted ruthari (TY 💘) so i thought maybe some of you would be interested in a few close-ups 👀

(i added some crocheter rambling so feel free to just click on the photo and swipe to skip all that)

i also throught perhaps @careful-silent-still and @hypherr would like to see them too? 👉👈

so. first up, runaan. he has wire inside so he has some degree of movement, but he's also quite stuffed and the movement is unfortunately limited

i've been crocheting for a year, so the idea of coming up with my own patterns for his clothes was terrifying. therefore, i ended up doing just his boots, pants and the vest (it's hot in the silvergrove this time of the year, he doesn't need the shirt or the coat 😅), plus of course the horn cuffs. all accesories are removable of course. the original idea for the pendant was for it to be just one strand with a loop at the end but it didn't look good at all so i switched to something way simpler and more effective)

i suck at embroidery and i hate it but what can you do 🫠

so i made runaan first and he was going to be a little birthday gift to myself, but ofc it'd be criminal to make only him and the plan has always been to make him a little ethari too. i finished him on the 5th so i guess it all ended up being a gift for him 🤣

once i saw his turnarounds, though, it took me quite some time to hype myself up to actually start making him, because it's so many different clothes with no existing patterns and they're all so detailed (runaan's were too but i had gained some confidence while making him and wanted to work on ethari properly) 😩 still, i somehow did it.

i did change the flap of fabric hanging from his belt as i had no way of making a smooth ombre transition from purple to dark turquoise like he actually has it - so instead of 2 jarring colours, it's 4 jarring colours 😂 and i also didn't do the embroidery on that part and it made me very happy - especially since there was plenty of embroidery i couldn't skip

and just like with runaan, all of his articles of clothing are removable (the flap is sewn onto the belt, and the green patches are sewn onto the boots but other than that, everything is separate)

there is, however, one issue 😅 i think it stems from a couple of choices i made: 1. i used a different, slightly thicker type of yarn for ethari's body than i did for runaan; 2. i used a 3,0 mm hook instead of 2,5 mm; and 3. i messed up the patterns for ethari's limbs (i did them in rounds instead of rows; it was late and i was tired and by the time i realised that, i was on the 3rd one & couldn't be bothered to scrap them all - which i probably should have done XD oh well).

the first 2 choices were deliberate as ethari is canonically a little bit taller than runaan, but umm...

let's just assume elves grow until they're 40 or so, and so after 2 years in the coin, runaan stayed behind 😅

oh, and i also wanted them to be able to hold hands so they have magnets in their hands but in the end, they weren't strong enough to still work through two layers of yarn ☹️ i guess i could still use a little clasp but we'll see about that

so yeah. here they are 😊

I am still so flabbergasted about sewing and knitting, of all things, getting mixed up. Seriously though, how does SEWING get mixed up with knitting?!?! Usually it's crochet and knitting getting mixed up. I'm not even mad or horrified, I'm just in shock. How does this even happen?! Who raised you, Rayla?!?! (/lh)

Anyway, I'm writing a fic where Ethari teaches Rayla how to sew, knit, AND crochet because. Why not. I love teaching people about crochet through fanfic. It's high time Rayla's master craftsman dad taught her the difference.

Sewing:

Rayla does a little shimmy in her seat as she finishes up the last few stitches of the moon primal rune, fastening off the thread and snipping it. She holds it up and spreads it out, admiring it. It’s nowhere near as polished as Ethari’s, but she’s proud of it.

Crochet:

Rayla goes for the bin labeled “sewing”, but is distracted by a long metal hook and a half-finished yarn project on the top. She runs a hand along it, fingering the hook.

“Is this knitting?”

At the silence behind her, she turns halfway around to find the two elves eyeing her, Ethari flabbergasted and Runaan holding back laughter.

Just a family of neurodivergent adults 🥰 Wait until Rayla finds out about Tunisian crochet.

Six Sentence Sunday

Morning, y'all! It's good to see you again @moodandmist 💖

I had the most AMAZINGLY magical night last night. I got to meet my absolute all-time favorite author, Natalie Lloyd, in person!!! And got to gift her some crochet!!! And she loved it!!! And I got my books signed and personalized!!! And she recognized me from our DMs on Instagram and wants my crochet pattern to add wings to her walker?!?! My life isn't real right now. I'm still fangirling and a bit star-struck. It was a breath of fresh air to talk about disability stuff with someone without the other person making it tragic and/or inspirational. And I will now be spending the next day or two recovering under my heated blanket and exoskeleton of very sexy disability aids, reading The Witching Wind.

I've also written what's probably the longest and most intense smut scene I've ever written. I'm venturing into BDSM territory I haven't explored before haha. It's fun! I'm getting a bit hung up on the ruthari smut, but I finished some goldenheart smut I'm super excited about.

A tear slides down Ambrosius’ face. Bal sets aside the comb, cupping his cheek and wiping away the tear, kissing him softly.

“Alright?”

Ambrosius nods, closing his eyes and leaning into the hand on his cheek.

“There we go, pet,” Bal purrs in his ear. “Let me hear you. You’ve been bad, so fucking needy. You’re going to make it up to me, aren’t you?”

He tries to nod, but all he achieves is a more delicious pull on his hair. Bal lets go to trail his hand down, tracing his scars, down, squeezing his red cheek, down... Bal teases his fingers around his rim, pushing the plug deeper into him, and he chokes on a cry.

Some Sentence Sunday

I don't know where the inspiration came from, but I'm writing neurodivergent ruthari at a nude beach. Because... infodumping about the ocean, amiright! This is partly Runaan and Ethari finding the other infodumping incredibly sexy, and mostly an excuse for me to infodump about the ocean.

So, here are a bajillion kisses.

Ethari dips down and kisses him, cupping the back of his head. Runaan lets out a surprised noise, then melts into the kiss, sighing.

“You’re so pretty when you’re passionate about something.”

Runaan surges up to kiss him, keeping the stone secure in one hand and wrapping his other arm around him.

“You’re so hot when you’re smart.”

~

Ethari kisses Runaan again, who hums appreciatively, wrapping his arms back around his husband. Ethari braces his forearm beside Runaan’s head, sliding his other hand down his side. Runaan breaks the kiss with a gasp.

“Here? Now?”

“Mmm why not?” Ethari’s hand comes to rest on Runaan’s hip. “We’re far enough away from anyone else.”

Runaan’s eyes narrow as the pieces come together.

“You planned this.”

I've also been working on my TDP crochet blanket and I'm SO CLOSE to being done!!! It's been an on-and-off project for seven and a half months, so I am ridiculously excited.

Speaking of COTTA: I'm putting together a behind-the-scenes post, which includes all my dead darlings, behind the writing commentary, and other things! Including some crochet... so keep an eye out for that! It'll get posted... sometime after COTTA. I still have ruthari week to contend with next week 😅 Maybe I'll post it on my birthday as a birthday treat. Or maybe not, since I'm planning to go to Lake Michigan and be autistic about rocks and watch musicals with my best friend that day.

He falls asleep out here sometimes. Arms resting on the stone, head pillowed on his sleeves. When he’s not backed up on orders or house chores that Runaan is no longer around to help him with, he sometimes sits to watch Rayla’s lotus.

I've got some fun (painful) things planned for this fic. My hurt no comfort muscle has been put to good use lately.

WIP Wednesday

Story reveal: @forabeatofadrum got it right, the Christmas story my ruthari AU is based on is The Gift of the Magi! (DO DO DO DO WHAT'LL HE DO) Starkid's VHSCCs inspired me (and they're still up on youtube! For free!! Go support Starkid!! No prior knowledge of Starkid is needed to enjoy their VHSCCs). It also inspired the title of this fic 😉

I likely won't be sharing anything else from my Magi AU, since I'm not writing anything new for it.

I also wrote a thing where Elena Castillo Flores, Ezran, and Zuko talk about anger management! My babies with anger issues get to therapize each other 🥰 It's in the style of a stageplay, and here's a lil something from it:

ZUKO: Your father-in-law being your dad's killer must have been difficult to reconcile.

EZRAN: (sighs) In a lot of ways, it still is. Callum marrying Rayla felt like losing my dad all over again. That by accepting Rayla's dad into the family, we would forget about my own. (EZRAN sets his tea down) I made so many mistakes, and it almost cost me everything. My kingdom, my family, my friends. The entire world. If it weren't for Aanya...

I have. Struggles when it comes to writing scenes with three plus people in them. But I challenged myself and somehow persisted.

I'm also working on a secret crochet project 👀 All I can say is that this type of project is something I find really frustrating, but it's gonna be so worth it if this goes right.

I should do a tour of my pattern binder at some point. My pattern notes are a disaster and I love them.

So I had an idea for a ruthari Stardust AU. That's it, those are my thoughts xD

I was thinking Yvaine!Runaan and Tristan!Ethari, but my thoughts were mainly on their meet-ugly and when Tristan pushes Yvaine into the bushes to hide her glowing from the passerby. I don't know what would happen with the royalty plotline, nor do I care. Yvaine and Tristan are adorable and so are Runaan and Ethari, and I love those two images I have of the Stardust AU 🥰

I honestly don't know why this one is still on my ideas list, I've already begun designing and crocheting him lmao. I was inspired to design a Meg!Baz while watching Hercules with the discord the other month!

I've been busy with the crochet projects and now I'm a bit burned out for TDP and about to work on a fic for Aaron de Coste/Baptiste Sa-Ismael from EotV (as the only ao3 writer for that ship, I feel like I've neglected them and so want to focus on their fics for now 🥲)

BUT

I do have quite a few Ruthari fic ideas and since idk if I'll participate in the Ruthari Week this year, and this fic is not particularly exciting or deep, I'm gonna post all the notes for their first kiss fic idea (a silly little thing, notes written down at 3 am, might still change it), as a treat:

WIP Wednesday

Happy Wednesday, friends! I am currently listening to my head bops while editing Lavender hearts at 7am, so it is... quite the contrast 🤣

Here's a bit from Lavender hearts that I edited this morning. This will likely be my last post about my COTTA, since I post on Wednesday next week!!

He lets me lean my full weight on him, supporting and holding me while I try to slow my mind.

“Here’s what we’re going to do,” he says. I lift my head to find him already looking at me. “We’re going to make a list. A plan for how to deal with the coming months, yeah? Penny likes her ‘What we know, what we don’t’ lists, or we could make a regular list. Okay?”

I take a deep breath and exhale shakily.

“Okay.”

I've also signed up as an artist for @carryon-reverse-bang! This is a very early (read: the first) design of the head pattern:

Poor Simon looks absolutely squished xD There's a reason us pattern designers do so much frogging and so many trials haha. I don't have any more recent photos, though, so that's what I've got.

And I'm planning to write for @ruthariweek! (Jumping into so many back-to-back fandom fests/events after a few-month fandom break may not have been the smartest plan. I am both overwhelmed and tired, but I don't regret anything.) The fic is pretty much complete, so here are some sentences I love.

...[Runaan] fidgets with the weapon on his prosthetic, opening and closing the knife.

Ethari throws himself into untangling his hair like he’s another one of his delicate creations, fingers dancing along his scalp and teasing through his long hair.

...the new king of Katolis (within whom he found a shared love of jelly tarts after apologizing)...

“My lovely, grumpy moonberry.”

Ethari catches him with ease (those artist’s arms), guiding him back down to the grass.

Do I take every possible opportunity to project my artist woes/strengths onto Ethari? Yes, yes I do. (Also yes, I will always write more disability rep :D)

i've been crocheting for a year, so the idea of coming up with my own patterns for his clothes was terrifying. therefore, i ended up doing just his boots, pants and the vest (it's hot in the silvergrove this time of the year, he doesn't need the shirt or the coat 😅), plus of course the horn cuffs. all accesories are removable of course. the original idea for the pendant was for it to be just one strand with a loop at the end but it didn't look good at all so i switched to something way simpler and more effective)

i suck at embroidery and i hate it but what can you do 🫠

so i made runaan first and he was going to be a little birthday gift to myself, but ofc it'd be criminal to make only him and the plan has always been to make him a little ethari too. i finished him on the 5th so i guess it all ended up being a gift for him 🤣

once i saw his turnarounds, though, it took me quite some time to hype myself up to actually start making him, because it's so many different clothes with no existing patterns and they're all so detailed (runaan's were too but i had gained some confidence while making him and wanted to work on ethari properly) 😩 still, i somehow did it.

i did change the flap of fabric hanging from his belt as i had no way of making a smooth ombre transition from purple to dark turquoise like he actually has it - so instead of 2 jarring colours, it's 4 jarring colours 😂 and i also didn't do the embroidery on that part and it made me very happy - especially since there was plenty of embroidery i couldn't skip

and just like with runaan, all of his articles of clothing are removable (the flap is sewn onto the belt, and the green patches are sewn onto the boots but other than that, everything is separate)

there is, however, one issue 😅 i think it stems from a couple of choices i made: 1. i used a different, slightly thicker type of yarn for ethari's body than i did for runaan; 2. i used a 3,0 mm hook instead of 2,5 mm; and 3. i messed up the patterns for ethari's limbs (i did them in rounds instead of rows; it was late and i was tired and by the time i realised that, i was on the 3rd one & couldn't be bothered to scrap them all - which i probably should have done XD oh well).

the first 2 choices were deliberate as ethari is canonically a little bit taller than runaan, but umm...

let's just assume elves grow until they're 40 or so, and so after 2 years in the coin, runaan stayed behind 😅

oh, and i also wanted them to be able to hold hands so they have magnets in their hands but in the end, they weren't strong enough to still work through two layers of yarn ☹️ i guess i could still use a little clasp but we'll see about that

so yeah. here they are 😊

okay, so for the BODIES I used a pattern from a book called "Crochet Cute Dolls With Mix-and-Match Outfits" by Miya:

I also used a little bit of wire to help accentuate the curvature of the horns. I did play with increases and decreases in the pattern so they do curve on their own but I thought the wire might be a nice failsafe.

Here are patterns for all of ETHARI'S CLOTHES:

It was my first time making patterns and I was in a bit of a rush to finish him before his birthday so they're not perfect, but if you ever need help with them, just hmu, we'll figure it out.

I first made his boots and then his pants in order to make sure I didn't mess up the length. Then the crop top and finally the belt to fill the space in between. Now I'm thinking that perhaps removing one row of single crochets from the crop top and adding it to the belt might give him a look more accurate to his original design but I think the way I did it he also turned out okay so it's just an option.

There are clasps at the back of his crop top and belt, and on Runaan's vest. The flap is sewn onto the belt but if you want it to be removable, just add more rows in purple and stuff it in between the belt and the doll while closing the clasp.

Unfortunately, for RUNAAN'S CLOTHES, the notes were a mess and I don't really have anything. They're similar to Ethari's with slight changes:

his pants don't have the increases, they're just sc for ~7 or 8 rows, then joining and continuing just like with Ethari's (also hmu if you need a diagram showing how to join the pant legs);

his boots are the same as Ethari's up to row 12, in row 13 I did bigger stitches in the middle - go from sc to hdc, then dc, back to hdc and continue with sc (if you want that part to be higher, go sc, hdc, dc, tc, dc, hdc, sc); then for row 14 change colour to brown and slst around;

his vest is a foundation chain of the desired length (I think I did about 36 but it ended up being a bit too loose - it all depends on your own doll's size), then 4 rows of dc - but in the 3rd row I did 2 dc-2-tog (about 8-9 sts from both edges, right below the arms holes, 1 per arm hole), then in row 5 I did ~8 dc, then ch 4/5, skip 3/4 (arm hole), dc 8, ch 4/5, skip 4/5 and dc in each st until the end of the row. Join yarn at the edge of the arm hole and ch ~8 and slst into the other corner for the double strap. (I have a similar diagram to show more or less what's going on)

PENDANTS

In purple, sc 6 in a magic ring, but while doing the 6th, do an invisible colour change to gray (6).

Slst around (6). Slst into the first st and fasten off, weave in the ends.

Then, join yellow yarn in that last slst and ch 12 (add or remove chains to get the desired length) and fasten off but leave a long tail end to tie it at the back. Repeat the same process in the same slst. Then, you can tie the ends at the back, make knots and trim.

HORN CUFFS

Ch 14. Slst into the first ch, ch 1.

Sc 14 (14). Slst into the first st and ch 1. Flip so you work normally.

Sc 3, dec, sc 4, dec, sc 3 (12). Slst and ch 1.

Sc in each st (12). Slst and ch 1.

Sc 4, hdc, dc 2, hdc, sc 4 (12). Slst and ch 1.

Slst around (12). Fasten off and weave in the ends.

HORN TIPS (ETHARI)

Sc 5 in a magic ring (5). Slst into the first st and ch 1.

Sc in each st (5). Slst and ch 1.

Inc, sc 2, inc, sc (7). Slst and ch 1.

Sc in each st (7). Slst. Fasten off and weave in the ends. You might have to stretch it out with something like a pen tip to make sure they fit.
