which cat's backstory you like the most?

Most: I like most of my character stories I put together quite a lot, but Icewhisper, Strikenose and Fernsplash all have backstories that truly live in my brain 24/7

Least: This probably goes to some of the Dark Forest cats, especially Tawnyfoot, Starklight, and Chillyfur (the cats I haven't the first clue about). Other contenders include the whole Crowpebble/Russetmoon situation, which is neat but doesn't sit quite right in my head yet, and Ruepetal, whose whole life just Sucked Severely.

Took the longest to write: Fernsplash and Larkslip's whole Situation has taken me a long time, with changes in details causing whole cascades in characterization changes over the last few years. Originally, Fernsplash was banished because Screestar was going senile and made a poorly-judged decision when he somehow found out about his and Larkslip's relationship. Fernsplash was brought back after a greencough epidemic killed both Screestar and Halfskip. But changes to the story caused changes in the characters of Screestar, then Fernsplash and Flamefoot, then Slatesun and Puddlepelt, and it just kept having all of these ripples that have taken a long time to smooth out. I like where it's at right now tho!

Took the shortest: ...her abilities have changed over time, but Icewhisper didn't take very long at all once I changed her from being "weird prophetess who left RiftClan and became a revered cat among all of the Clans" to "former healer who was tortured by visions, left the Clan, and promptly disappeared and became a weird ghost story".

Most interesting to write but I didn't like once complete: ooo, tough question! I guess Russetmoon and Crowpebble? Originally I had it down that Silverbird and Swiftripple were Russetmoon's kits from a relationship before Rainwhisker, and that was really about it. I'd never delved into what had happened there, I think I just wrote it off as "former love who died, Russetmoon loved her but has moved on." Then I was listening to Laments of a Mattress by Hop Along, Queen Ansleis at some point and the story just CLICKED. Crowpebble wanted a mate and kits and felt she was being left behind by her brothers. She went into a really fast-moving relationship with Russetmoon, who was hesitant and wanted to love her but was realizing he was in love with Rainwhisker. By the time they decided it wasn't working and to split up (which Crow was pretty bitter about, mostly because she just couldn't make the relationship work like she wanted to), Crow was already pregnant with their kits. They agreed that Crow would raise the kits by herself, and never name the father, and Russet would keep his distance. Moons later, when Swift and Silver were apprentices, Crow died to the same fox that blinded Berrysplash. Russet wanted to be there for his grieving kits, and revealed himself to be their father. They didn't take it very well, especially Silver, but they've been growing to care for each other over time. Now, Russet's in a happy relationship with Rain, with five kits total, and Silver and Swift love their half-siblings despite their awkwardness towards their father. I wrote this, and I liked it, and two years later... it's alright I guess? I don't like Crow's characterization that much tho, and want to return to this someday and work on it more. It's the kind of interpersonal relationship stuff that I tend to struggle with if I haven't experienced it, so I just need to do more research I think.
