i'm sorry i know you said that was your only wow post but i would love to know what area or city you hung out in the most. sometimes i listen to the eversong woods music on youtube just to feel something
the bass on the eversong woods music was spectacular and i loved the colors there. unfortunately because i have chronic bad taste my favorite zone was gilneas. and they never even let me go back there. love a good rainy miserable haunted vibe what can i say

Who would you say are some exceptional female historians who've written about the US presidency?
There are scores of great female Presidential historians, so any quick list that I make will invariably leave deserving historians out and I apologize ahead of time. Before I begin the list, I want to give special recognition to one of the very best: Doris Kearns Goodwin's bibliography measures up against the books of any and all Presidential historians. Her first book, Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream: The Most Revealing Portrait of a President and Presidential Power Ever Written (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) was originally published in 1976 but, in my opinion, remains one of the greatest Presidential biographies EVER written.
Others, in no particular order: •Margaret Leech •Amy S. Greenberg •Elizabeth Drew •Brenda Wineapple •Candice Millard •Amity Shlaes •Jan Jarboe Russell •Annette Gordon-Reed •Alexis Coe •Lady Bird Johnson (her diaries are priceless first-person accounts of her husband's Presidency and life in the White House) •Joanne B. Freeman •Lynne Cheney (surprisingly to most people, the wife of former Vice President Dick Cheney is a respected historian who has written excellent books on James Madison and the early Presidents from Virginia) •Fawn Brodie •Aida D. Donald •Kate Andersen Brower •Elizabeth Brown Pryor •Peggy Noonan •Nancy Gibbs •Nancy Isenberg •Susan Swain •Margaret Truman •Edna Greene Medford

In which Tucker comes to terms with irradiation.
Written for AI-less Whumptober 2024, Day 4: Painful transformation
Length: 300 words
Tumblr media
Tucker’s heard plenty of stories of people who’d gotten cocky and paid for it with a fairly quick—if obscenely painful—death. In his 18 years of hearing them, no one’s ever mentioned what happens in those last moments.
There’s a blinding light for a fraction of a second, like a flashbang.
It hurts.
He hears his ears ring—somewhere else, his own screams; he feels the burning, all-consuming.
It hurts.
Which is hotter: the plasma tearing up his right cheek or the tears streaming down his left?
Help.
His last thought—a prayer, if he’s honest: I hope the pension’s enough, Al.
---
Three days later, he wakes up in a Starfleet hospital.
“These injuries should have put you in the morgue.” He can’t say he’d have been opposed to that.
“You woke up, so you’re going to live—” Dammit. “—but based on your rate of cellular degeneration, you've got about half the time you would have had.”
Dimly, Tucker wonders how long he’d have lasted. Humans can live up to 80 years, in the right conditions. He’s managed to survive 17 in Starfleet, thanks to his preternatural ability to keep his mouth shut. Realistically, though, how much longer would he have had? Five years? Ten? People die constantly.
It doesn't matter. Maybe in another universe, a Starfleet soldier could expect to see 40.
Not here.
---
In a dream, Tucker feels a cool hand on his scar, careful. Smooth fingers work at the scar tissue, gently pulling in multiple directions. Relief creeps into that side of his face, like roots.
Somewhere, there's a warmer touch, more tender. Raspy fingers smooth over annihilated skin, carefully thumbing over his eyelid. If Tucker had a death wish, he might call it affectionate. Maybe even loving.
In another life, maybe there's rest. However fleeting.

Today's theme: Curse of the Worgen - Russell Brower
Youtube link || Spotify link || KHInsider link
Something something, parallels between the worgen curse and the effects of radiation re: involuntarily and painfully changing into something you hate. I also wanted something that was simultaneously dark, off-kilter, and tragic.
