Vo, Rumblecusp, Lucidian Ocean: Vo is a treehouse village on the island of Rumblecusp, in the Lucidian Ocean. Its inhabitants were subject to a strange magical effect causing them to lose memories. The Mighty Nein uncovered the cause in 836, and most of the ≈100 villagers left, so it is unclear if it is still inhabited today.

Whitestone, Tal'Dorei: Whitestone is a politically-important Tal'Dorei city. Vox Machina's Percy de Rolo is originally from Whitestone. Vox Machina spent considerable time here during their adventures, and many of them retired here afterwards.

I think the bit I really missed with Caleb early on that brings his whole character design into focus is the extent to which Keen Mind is indicative of who he is as a person.

Specifically, the thing that drove it home is the top floor of the tower. Most important moments of his life, just sitting there in perfectly preserved detail, because that's who he is as a person.

I think most people have probably had a moment of remembering something from their past and realizing that it's irrevocably in the past, for better or worse, and if you put those memories in perfect detail, for a man who's lost a great, great deal, then suddenly you've got someone for whom the memories are there, as real as if they were happening in front of him, but he can't join them.

The whole time-travel thing is just an extension of that.

perhaps this is just an unhealthy paleobotany brain, but I hope the world before the gods was a devonian/carboniferous jungle. no, there weren’t flowers, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t life! your world has a past so much more alien and beautiful than you know. yes, the wildmother helped make angiosperms but who’s to say they wouldn’t have arisen without her, just as the ferns and cycads did. come on, matthew. you wanna describe the gods crashing into a paleozoic landscape lush with now extinct organisms sooo bad.

You’re in for a treat 😉

Caleb was busy. His eyes and mind were still cataloguing the strangers, noting anything suspicious or questionable, and filing it away for later. Caduceus had mentioned ‘time displacement’ which means whatever being had caused this was powerful. And something that powerfully magical could also be skilled in illusions. There was no knowing for sure who these strangers were.

Vex had accidentally caught his stare with one of her own. Her face was carefully neutral as she held his gaze, and Caleb was certain she had also been sizing them up. There was only one way to know for sure their character.

Whispering the familiar spell under his breath, Caleb called for Frumpkin. In one second there was empty ground beside his feet as he walked; in the next moment there was an amber cat. Vex’s eyebrow shot up. Caleb gave Frumpkin a mental command, and he scampered off with a new mission in mind. He wove between everyone’s feet, brushing his tail against ankles, meowing as cute as can be. Keyleth cooed “Oh hello there!” as expected. Tary jumped back in surprise and then with realization it was just a cat, he shooed with his hands. “Little creature, don’t get fur on my armor. Whose pet is this?”

Grog looked towards Vex, “Did the magic island shrink Trinket?”

Cathmoíra, Domunas: Cathmoíra was a pre-Calamity city in the continent formerly known as Domunas, now the Shattered Teeth. It is a sister city and docking point for the floating city Avalir.

sometimes i think about how jester’s silly little pseudo-religious gathering on some random island not only led to keyleth’s mother being found but a successful divine intervention from taliesin’s character caduceus which granted a vision from an abberation about a hivemind city in the astral sea that just happened to be heavily connected to taliesin’s other character that died early in the campaign as well as the number nine which has stalked the party since day one and how there was no way in hell that series of events could’ve been pre-planned or predicted by either the dm or the players so yeah campaign 2 is definitely surrounded by spooky eldritch magic above table (and it’s no surprise taliesin is at the centre of it)
