(we all know from the movies that Daniel makes snap decisions, and goes with his heart. I can see Dani wanting kids that young if she's in love.)

After being together for 3 years Terri has noticed how good Dani is with kids. (Terri has very complex feelings about children. She had always thought of it as having an heir. Now she realizes it could be more.)

so Dani would probably be 22 and Terri 37.

Dani doesn't imagine herself being a stay-at-home mom with their child, no matter how much she would love them. However, she would want to spend as much time as possible with them when they are especially young. She wouldn't want to miss any firsts.

So, it starts as maternity leave. Dani is just recovering and taking in motherhood. She does want to go back to Little Trees, but she can't make herself leave her new little family for more than a few hours at a time.

Dani's shifts at Little Trees become highly part-time. So Terri more or less gets her wish.

As for the pregnancy, Dani carries high and grows slowly, however, she's very petite so any weight she puts on is very noticeable. Terri loves the idea that she is providing for Dani, and that Dani, in turn, is providing for their child.

I didn't see the appeal at first, but the idea consumed me from a story standpoint. there's so much to play with there, and I do love a good convoluted, angsty internal crisis. Those relationships that never quite make sense. They are always doing something through someone else.

Like how comics have multiple continuities, that is how I approach fic. this will be an out of canon one shot. a what-if scenario, because I don't see it happening in the main story. But the worms speak to me.

Now for another scenario.

Terri's idea of choosing a donor that isn't John is fascinating because Terri only lives for the few people she is close to. she gives them everything. So it would have to be someone from Dani's life.

(the gender and sex of the other side characters usually stay as they are in canon in the "main continuity," but let's imagine a full flip scenario. The only person I can see Terri being somewhat okay with is Kumiko (Kazuki? Kamaye?)

Kumiko was Dani's first love. it wasn't meant to be, luckily for Terri, but it's the most important relationship she's ever had aside from Terri.

Ali (Alex?) was a high school crush at most.

if Terri knew Amanda (Andy?) that might be a thought. Terry/Terri respects Amanda. They have business dealings together and have never screwed each other over.

Amanda (Andy?)is smart and handsome and looks surprisingly like Terri. The same sharp, business-oriented mind, the same dark, wavy hair, the same strong jawline, and blue eyes.

Amanda could be the godparent. They would be involved in the child's life but more under the role of cool uncle.
