Drew some birds (April 27, 2024) - closeups below
Literally just scribbled these with my fine tip markers of twelve colours. And it was really fun, and I'm gonna do this again. But I don't really know what birds to draw next, so feel free to suggest some!

December 7, 2023 - Rufous-headed Woodpecker (Celeus spectabilis) Found in parts of Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia, these woodpeckers live in forests near rivers and bamboo thickets. They eat bamboo ants and probably other insects, foraging alone or in pairs on tree trunks and branches, bamboo, and fallen logs. Only two of their nests have been described. One, a cavity dug into a dead tree, was lost to a predator before the eggs hatched. In the other a male was observed feeding a single chick.

Rufous-Tailed Jacamar (Galbula ruficauda)
Family: Jacamar Family (Galbulidae)
IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern
Though somewhere between hummingbirds and kingfishers in appearance, jacamars like the Rufous-Tailed Jacamar are believed to be cousins of woodpeckers and have historically been placed alongside them in the order Piciformes, although more recent genetic evidence suggests that alongside their close relatives the puffbirds they may actually be distinct enough to warrant being reclassified as part of entirely new order, the Galbuliformes. Found mainly in forests and well-vegetated shrublands across northern South America and southern Central America, Rufous-Tailed Jacamars, like most members of their family, are agile insect-eaters that use their extremely long, narrow bills to catch small insects such as butterflies and wasps straight out of the air.

BOTD: Cinnamon Woodpecker
Tumblr media
Photo: Marcus C. England
"One of several species of mostly rufous woodpeckers with a crest. On Cinnamon, look for pale off-white belly with black scaling, and uniformly rufous head and back. Sexes mostly similar; male has red mustache stripe. Mainly a forest bird, found singly or in pairs, usually at middle levels or in the canopy. Listen for series of loud breathy whistles descending in pitch, similar to several other species in this genus."

I know I’m invested in something when I suddenly remember that I’ve got a whole doc filled with the geography of its world. like a week ago I was close to making a whole map of the dragon au but fell asleep before I got to it.
Anyways what I’m getting at is that I just remembered the hours of research I did on Korean wildlife to create lists of what birds could show up in what areas, and then just blacked out and forgot about it until now.
so here’s the list
Temperate climate
the village
occasional seagull or bird of paradise
crow
little owl
forests (close to village and surrounding areas)
colourful birds of paridise
honey buzzard
Japanese sparrowhawk
common buzzard
crow
Japanese quail (on ground)
little owl
rufous bellied woodpecker
long tailed shrike
Japanese tit
lakes/rivers/marshes (freshwater)
herrons
ibises
spoonbills
black storks
geese
swans
ducks
ospray
common phesant
phesant tailed jacana
ocean areas (saltwater)
albatross
masked booby
seagulls (ocean to near ocean area)
pelicans
ospray
white tailed eagle
common kestrel
merlin
least auklet
Dexter's cave (on a mountain to higher/rocker terrain to work with)
golden eagle
Eurasian black vulture
crows
perrigan falcon
hill pidgeon
I’ve never been outside of Canada and America (and was never the best at geography) so I have no idea how inaccurate this could be. but also it’s a fantasy world so I can kinda get away with it
(also lil me was such a bird of prey nerd so I’m going to add more of them then necessary)
let me know if there’s any animals I should add to the list and who knows if I’ll post before 2025 but I think I might work on a map until I have to head off to a New Year’s party
