(specifically post elven forest and dreamland arc)

okay, but how much exactly do we know about the goddess that possesses r/ludger?

1. we know she can revive the dead (more specifically someone who's recently died)

2. she's an absolute nuisance to r/ludger because she keeps talking crap into his head (which he is thankfully protected from by the three seals)

3. everyone has an instinctive fear towards her (proven by r/ludger covering mastella's eyes and ambella from the elven forest, both of which encountered the goddess with/without sight— well a part of her anyway..)

4. she's a heretic god that was banished by lumensis (honestly no surprise here considering the amount of gods she's banished atp)

—anything I missed out?? someone help because I suck at remember things..

I still have some questions though— like I know grander is old and all but how does she know how to create those seals to suppress the goddess?

more importantly, why didn't she finish her original job after meeting r/ludger (heathcliff)?

^^this is totally not an excuse for me to rant about my growing desire to watch bretus to be smashed to smithereens...

I know I’m speaking with the benefit of twenty-ish years of hindsight and am no way a professional writer, but I’ve entered the start of the duelist of the week part of the pre WRPG and I feel like some of these duels could have worked better if they had just switched the duelists

And I know some people might feel like trying to fix this part of 5Ds is beating a dead horse, so I’ll put my rambling thoughts after the cut.

Like, you’ve got the vice principal at Duel Academy in the love letter to GX. Aki stands up to him, but it’s Yusei who comes in and duels him because the principal hired him to do it. And the lesson we are supposed to take is that Yusei has the power to fix people’s souls and the vice principal is wrong for disrespecting low level monsters

And Yusei is very much the correct choice for teaching the lesson that no card is trash…but we already know he’s got the power to bring out the best in people. Look at where Jack and Aki were at the start of the arcs compared to here- we’ve seen Yusei do this already. Instead of giving the one shot antagonist the character lesson, why not just let Aki handle it?

In the last arc we saw a flashback to her in duel academy terrifying her classmates with her powers. Show us Aki now being the hero to her fellow students who doesn’t need her powers to win this duel. It’s not perfect as it has the development happening off-screen but it at least shows us it did happen instead of telling us it happened. Plus, it gives a chance for Aki to show us a card in her extra deck other than Black Rose Dragon or Splendid Rose and that’s another positive

Then we’ve got the old man with the junk family deck, and this being a Crow episode just gives me whiplash. Like, last we saw Crow getting focus he was rocketing himself through Godwin’s monster in a move so awesome the crimson dragon made him a signer for it. Now in this episode, he gets clowned on by the kids he was looking after and slapsticked around a junkyard. Quite the step downward in terms of respect given to a character

And it seems like this would have been such a layup to make it a Yusei episode. The opponent is a man who focused on his work and ended up losing his family because of it, and he uses a junk deck. Then we’ve got yusei, who grew up an orphan because of his father’s work and uses a lot of junk monsters. We saw in Yusei vs Rudger that Yusei has complicated feelings about his father (I’m not sure if “inherited survivor’s guilt” is a thing but it would be the simplest explanation I can give). You could have this be a fun mirror where each side connects with the other as a surrogate for the family they lost. Seems like a lot of character potential you could add on here, and if you have duels that don’t impact the plot you can easily make them engaging with good character work

Just my thoughts and I might have more as I continue my rewatch, but I wanted to write this down and this blog seemed like the best place as a way of shouting into the void of the internet

I'VE BEEN DYING FOR SOMEONE TO SEE THE RED FLAGS THESE TWO GIVE OFF— the entire relationship between the two (as you mentioned) is one sided. rudger just keeps on using and using casey for his own gain— although he feels bad for it to some degree we haven't really seen him sympathise for casey at all (the kunst auction house and fake marriage arc).

as much as I favour rudger as a character, I must admit that you're completely right to say rudger was in the wrong— but I'd also like to highlight how the story (like most others) blur the line between good and evil. casey couldn't protect the innocent and rudger did, using the wrong methods of course.

honestly rudger's death has been foreshadowed a lot throughout the entire novel, because clearly moriarty dies, arsene lupin gets caught and numerous of his identities do end up falling in the end.

—honestly I would've said any character that is the equivalent to the (hero-but-story-antagonist) would bring rudger down but amongst the others (terina), casey's had the most screentime.

another thing I've been dying to point out is how characters in aup are nothing like their irl (og books) counterpart. hear me out.

(^tldr: casey (currently) takes the side of justice but sherlock does what he believes is right.)

casey is morally good because we've yet to see her press against what she believes is wrong and mostly leaves it up to the authorities (as of now, girlie has to pop off some time and I'm DYING to see it hopefully sayren surpasses 700+ and brings my girl back)— is sherlock morally good? in a way, supposedly; he does what he believes is right and does it even if it violates the law— does Casey do that? no, no she does not (again, not as of now but hopefully in the future, work that colour title girlie).

^^tldr of the entire thing: let's be fr, after grander and *cough* some people from ch.600+ *cough*— rudger is in fact the most death flagged character and I'd bet casey is going to be there for his timely death. (I just need to see them together so bad, I live for their angst)

on casey selmore & ludger cherish:

the more i read into the novel, the more i wanna scream at the manhwa for missing out the context for caseys grievance over moriarty/ludger, and thus making the readers think she is annoying for it. despite their rivalry/bickering before moriarty was deep into the things™️, considering caseys personality, she still prolly saw moriarty as her best friend (or someone who gets her the most). and if my best friend suddenly changed 180° and became a notorious villain, yet still trying to save me when we were supposed to be nemesis, i as someone whose whole career is pursuing the truth would also wanna chase them into the end of earth and make them confess their reasons. ludger's assessment of casey obsessively chasing him out of her pride may contain a part of truth, but i find it unfair to say that's her whole deal. (if you are familiar with ace attorney, i dont think its incorrect to say their relationship after falling out is similar to phoenix wright and miles edgeworth after DL-6.)

spoilers for 268+: i personally dont think casey was at fault for falling for moriartys bit when for his whole life lying is his whole expertise and the gods also bless him with auto crits on deception.

spoilers for 356+: i do hate that casey was the one who ended up apologizing when between the two, ludger was clearly in the wrong. i suppose at the time it made sense since casey needed ludgers forgiveness for closure and full mental recovery, so i wont dwell much on this.

spoilers for 497+: since ch268, casey was the only one actively trying to mend their relationship while it became clear and clearer in ch497 that ludger was the one actively pushing her away. i think after the moriartys bit, ludger ended up seeing himself as someone who is irredeemable and one day poetic justice will become his downfall. based on ludgers past behaviors during their reichenbachs falls and now his last convo with casey, he seems to be building casey up to be his executioner. i dont wanna say this is end game foreshadowing or ludgers death flag but fuck if thinking about it doesnt make me screaming crying throwing up eating drywall.

5ds headcanon

i wanna know other peep’s opinions: So, we know Yusei’s dad is Dr Fudo - kinda obvious, and you know, referenced. But there’s the argument that Rudger Godwin is Jack’s dad too. The hair is almost identical (longer, since Jack cuts his or just hasn’t grown it idk, but he keeps the front ear bits so it clearly grows). SO if so, Jack and Yusei know each other from their parents being around each other etc, thats where they have a connection But what about Crow? Personally (again tell me what u think) but i think he is Rex Godwin’s son. Rex is secretly Satellite’s saviour, having a Dwheel with wings and flying from Daedalus to Neo Dom. around the time that Zero Reverse occurred (after Dr Fudo and Rudger die, Rex escapes to Neodom to fix things as the sole survivor, with his brother’s arm.) He abandons his son - Crow - which is why Crow has no idea about this, not even knowing the famous man’s identity. (and Jack doesn’t know aboutRudger since he died and Jack never made the corrolation, ‘n Atlas is a name he just picked up because of wanting to rule the world, and be a king, n all that, I mean ‘Jack Atlas’ isnt very Japanese or familial) Look at this shot from 5Ds S1 finale: 

Godwin’s reaction to Crow bringing up the legendary Dwheeler (and as we know by this point, the legendary Dwheeler is Godwin), makes it seem like he’s kinda smug about it all. Crow aspires to be the legendary DWheeler, and - if we take Crow as RG’s son, maube Godwin is kinda finding irony is a heroic guy like crow trying to go down the same path as his dad did, or maybe he fiinds it sadistically funny that Crow will never know that he not only was the legendary Dwheeler but also is Crow’s dad, which ties the legendary Dwheeler (who Crow damn idolises) even more to Crow

ALSO, there’s the whole ‘lost plot’ idea where Crow was supposed to be the final/one of the Dark Signers , so maybe Crow was supposed to join Godwin OR take Godwin’s legacy on as the one to combine the SIgner and Dark Signer power to become God (yeah, not nice to think about with Crow being like that), but maybe Crow would be like “frick you dad i have fwends and fwendship and bonds mean more than sucky power!” (typical YuGiOh style!)

So, if Jack and Crow were the Godwin’s sons, that would make them... cousins?

yeah ok that’s getting troubling but still fun to think about. Also, hence why they are so much.

Okay so for my Doctor Who/Whoniverse DR, I decided I am exactly the same as in my CR (still diabetic, still need glasses, etc.) but my mental health is fantastic and I’m more confident.

This is because I want my experience to be as authentic as possible, and also maybe if I see myself ✨thriving and vibing✨ in another reality I’ll be able to take a little of it back with me.

It’s also because of this that I’ve scripted something unusual — and maybe this isn’t the best idea, idk.

I’ve scripted that shortly after arriving in my DR I will temporarily forget that I have shifted until I shift back, and then when back in my CR I will remember again + everything that happened in my dr (am I explaining this right?). I will also temporarily forget watching the show.

This is because I know I would act differently if I didn’t already know about Time Lords and Gallifrey and TARDISes, plus the Doctor probably wouldn’t take me if he found out I was a shifter :/

I also don’t want to know everything that’s going to happen.

I thought I’d maybe use this to my advantage, kinda as my own weird impossible girl plot device. I can script that I remember certain things from my CR or the show’s canon that I shouldn’t know and I don’t know why I know them.

For example:

Talking about the events of 2020, despite the fact that it’s 2017 in my DR

Casually referencing River Song or knowing about regeneration when no one has told me about them

Y’Know, just something a little spicy to get the Doctor to take an interest and invite me on the TARDIS.

Maybe this is a bad idea or there is a better way to achieve this effect, I haven’t come across any examples of other people doing this so I don’t have anything to go on.

If anyone has suggestions on how to do it better (or safer, if you think it’s not safe) that would be greatly appreciated ✨
