Who are the Party’s acnh dreamies, and did they get them? Also, do they have Happy Home Paradise?
Completely unrelated, but I’ve had the random urge to play animal crossing all week. And I’ve felt this weird connection to Isabelle. Strange. /s
(I’m so sad that I never got to play New Leaf, but I had a DSI instead of a 3DS so I couldn’t play any of the cool games 😔)
OHHH THIS ASK IS FOR MEEEE IT’S FOR ME!!!!!
i definitely think they have all their dreamies!!! dustin absolutely makes his own amiibos so i think he helps everyone get who they want. i also think he gets involved in a lot of discords and treasure islands so even for the 8 new villagers that didn’t have amiibos at the time, he def had a billion nmt and was very lucky with villager hunting lol. in terms of who their dreamies aaarrrrreeee…
mike: lucky, ankha, wolfgang!! i think those are the only 3 he super cares about and likes to have a rotation + enjoys villager hunting. he just vibes with whoever and isn’t super picky but i think he’s attached to the 3 i picked because he had them in new leaf and they’re his Friends.
will: ruby, coco, sasha, gaston, teddy!! i know that him being bunny coded is affecting my vision but i’m correct. he lovvveeeesss bunnies and i think he’d love ruby and coco so much bc they’re cute but also a little creepy looking so he’d feel bad for them. and i think gaston is so silly looking that he is obsessed with him. teddy is bc he reminds will of a real life walter :)
max: agent s, hazel, keaton, katt, bob!! quite a few but she’s definitely super picky. i think she hardcore judges villagers for being ugly but has also decided some “ugly” ones are so ugly they’re cute (hazel and katt) and they are her ride or die’s. she didn’t seek them out they sought Her and she vibes. definitely hits villagers she hates with a net and sends them hate mail even though that increases friendship with them lol. hates sheep villagers.
el: dotty, audie, pekoe, beardo, greta, scoot, tia, faith, dobie, papi!! obviously a full list but she went through and made sure she had one of each personality type and doubled up on her fave types (normal and peppy). she is def into aesthetics but also thinks some of them are funny!! like scoot with his hat and beardo (who reminds her of hop)
lucas: benjamin, lucky, daisy, butch, shep, cherry! truthfully i think he loves dogs and would have a whole dog island. the ones listed are his absolute faves and the other spots he kind of just rotates as necessary until he finds a personality combo that he likes!!
dustin: raymond, marshal, shino, sherb, zucker, merengue, julian, judy, roald, pietro!! sorry that he is the way he is. he sells villagers on the black market and then just puts them back in his town. it’s not my fault (it is).
2 me they all share a nintendo switch online family plan, so they all technically have hhd! i think mike, dustin, and el are the only ones who actually really play it tho. el tells will he would love it and will doesn’t listen but he might suddenly have another interest in acnh and specifically hhd starting in september 2023. who knows. (i know.)
also you didn’t ask but dustin and mike time travel. sorry about it!!!!

ROUND 1B! MATCH 4 OUT OF 8
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Ruby Lucas:
she's cool, and a werewolf!
She's a red/big bad wolf combo, she's bi, she gets tragically underused like so many OUaT characters
She’s a werewolf :)
We first see her as Ruby in Storybrooke where she's initially depicted as a fun-loving flirt who spends her nights most likely in a bar while wearing revealing clothes that her grandma disapproves of (and is all in red. Absolutely everything). She lives with her grandma who runs a diner and that's where Ruby works. When Emma wakes up the sleeping town, she tries to leave Granny's and ends up helping in a case that Emma's working on by following her nose. That episode also has her backstory, but when we first see her as Red in the Enchanted Forest, she's confident and helpful and not afraid to use her lycanthropy. But the start of her story has her being an innocent young woman with a love for discovering the world and her boyfriend Peter (of Peter and the Wolf, I guess). She meets Snow while still living with her Granny in her cabin in the woods and takes her in. She's so hopeful - and then she turns into a werewolf and kills Peter (after they all thought he was the werewolf and had chained him to a tree). She is obviously quite traumatized by this and takes off with Snow. But that and her subsequent adventures gives her the growth she needs to be comfortable in her own skin, whether human or wolf. And, when the curse breaks completely, you can see the change in her - she would absolutely walk through fire to help Snow and the other good guys.
Another version where Red Riding Hood also ends up being the Big Bad Wolf. She eats her boyfriend which is sad but she falls in love with Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz in like Season 5. Her red cloak is what keeps her in human form which I think is neat. When all the storybook characters are transported to the modern world, she runs a diner with Granny.
She's one of my favorite characters from Once Upon a Time. She's a cool Red Riding hood wolf girl who is bi and has seen like 3 of her love interests and her mother die. She slays very hard so I nominate her. (Also I used to have a crush on her as a kid)
VOTE RUBY LUCAS FROM ONCE UPON A TIME. SHE WAS IGNORED BY THE WRITERS SO MUCH SHE DESERVES THIS SO MUCH. QUEER ICON!!!
Ruby Rose:
She has a scythe that is also a high-impact sniper rifle.
She is literally just based on Red Riding Hood and she's such an amazing character holy heck
Red Riding Hood but with a gun. (Specifically a combination scythe/high-impact sniper rifle called Crescent Rose). Also she's gone through so much she deserves it. She's trying to save the world and keep going despite all the people she's lost. Grew up dreaming of being a hero who fights monsters. She knows life isn't a fairy tale and wants to make it better. Just went through a mental health arc where she had depression from trying to live up to her (presumed dead) mom and from her friend dying for the second time. Killed the Big Bad Wolf with her magic eye powers. Her sister is Goldilocks and her friends are Beauty and Snow White. also I love her <3
She’s the little red riding hood but also a powerful fighter with a massive fucking scythe that is also a sniper rifle and she’s so skrunkly and so gender. Also RWBY’s whole thing (well one of them) is that their characters are all inspired by pre-existing ones from older stories and Ruby’s the main character so like, poster child of ‘character based off [insert relevant fairytale here]’ so I think she deserves to at least get pretty far
Aesthetics, themes, meta, personality and raw coolness.
She is the main character of her show. The most common monster they fight is a type of wolf (its been a while since ive seen it). Her job is to hunt them down before they can eat her. this story is very much about failed fairy tales, many of the side character's inspired arcs end in failure, but (having not seen the most recent bits) Ruby is still going strong, and i really like her cape, rose petals, and use of a scythe.
She is THE RRH character of all time. She has a scythe that's also a gun and she has to be the hero because she's got super rare main character powers. She is my happy girl. Also her mom was Sleeping Beauty and her sister is Goldilocks, and she fights to stop Rapunzel from destroying everything on the world, the gods, and then herself.
Ruby as a character is literally based on little red riding hood! She has a red cape with a hood
the Red trailer is better propaganda than I could ever write
She is a badass with a scythe, inspired by her uncle and fueled by her mother's death and her sense of righteousness
She has a giant scythe

Lucio Fontana (1899 - 1968), Concetto spaziale, New York 8, signed, lacerations and scratches on brass.
Lucio Fontana in his studio. 1962
Executed in 1962, Lucio Fontana’s gleaming brass painting Concetto spaziale, New York 8 is a resplendent example of the artist’s celebrated investigations into pictorial, physical and cosmic space. The work comes from Fontana’s body of Metalli – or metal sheets – which were created between 1961 and 1968. Begun when the artist was 62 years of age, the works in this series explore the possibilities of gestural expression on incandescent sheets of metal, including copper, zinc, aluminium, and, as in the present work, brass. Scratching, gouging, and tearing violent incisions into these sheets of metal, Fontana opens out the flat pictorial plane into the depths of the third dimension, revealing an infinite vortex of space. Desirable and extremely rare, the works in this series were dedicated to the twinkling, light filled ‘City that Never Sleeps’ that inspired their creation: New York. Fontana’s vast impact on the course of contemporary art is being commemorated this year in the first major survey of the artist’s work in more than forty years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
In 1961, Fontana was invited by Paolo Marinotti, the owner of the exhibition centre at Palazzo Grassi, Venice, to create a cycle of paintings known as the Venezie for the acclaimed Arte e Contemplazione exhibition. Exhibiting alongside the likes of Jean Dubuffet, Mark Rothko and Sam Francis, Fontana produced a number of lustrous oil paintings in a thick lavishing of metallic paint, inspired by the Baroque characteristics of the city of Venice. Manipulating the surfaces of these works, Fontana tore into the canvas to create his iconic tagli (cuts) and buchi (holes). The works dazzled the public and, later that year, they were exhibited in New York. Fontana travelled to the city for the very first time in November 1961 and was enthralled by its powerful magnetism, unlike anything he had seen before: “New York is more beautiful than Venice!!” he exclaimed, greatly affected by the immense verticality of the city, and the vast metal structures of the high-rise buildings that filled Manhattan’s skyline. “The skyscrapers of glass look like great cascades of water that fall from the sky!! At night it is a huge necklace of rubies, sapphires, and emeralds” he wrote in a letter to his friend, the architect and collector Mario Bardini (Lucio Fontana cited in: Exh. Cat., New York, Guggenheim Museum, Luca Massimo Barbero, Lucio Fontana: Venice/New York, 2006, p. 37).
Concetto spaziale, New York 8 invokes the immense and dynamic metropolis of New York City. Radiant with energy, charisma and charm, bustling with people, and filled with endless, towering skyscrapers, the city captured Fontana’s imagination. In a natural progression from the sparkling surfaces of his Venezie paintings, Fontana turned to the medium of metal in order to evoke the omnipotent and awe-inspiring wonder of his newly discovered New York. In the present work, five bold lacerations cut forcefully through the flesh of the brass, in an echo of the city’s skyline, as countless scratches and indentations score its surface. They reflect and diffract the light, creating a play of brightness and shadow that flits across the pictorial plane. “New York”, wrote the artist, “is a city made of glass colossi on which the Sun beats down causing torrents of light” (Ibid., p. 43). Indeed, the present work seems imbued with the warmth of the city’s rich and golden sunlight. Just as Venice, with its sensual allure and antique charm, had powerfully inspired Fontana’s aesthetic, so did New York captivate and enchant him with its grand industrial force. Thus does Concetto spaziale, New York 8 offer a compelling metaphor for this utopia of man-made modernity.
The Venezie and New York cycles represent some of the most sublime and opulent works of Fontana’s career. Indeed, the present work was exhibited in a number of eminent exhibitions including Fontana’s major 1977 retrospective at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, as well as at the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (1987-88), and the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome (1988). More recently, the two series became the focus of a celebrated exhibition, Lucio Fontana: Venice/New York, which travelled from the Guggenheim in Venice to New York in 2006-7. Held in important museum collections worldwide, Fontana’s Metalli works have achieved an almost mythic status within the artist’s career. With its iridescent and mesmerising beauty, Concetto spaziale, New York 8 encapsulates the radical aesthetic of this sought after series.

Unorganized RUBY GILLMAN Thought Stew
I originally had a whole post typed out for this... And then it disappeared into the ether, because this fella accidentally hit Control+X... Tumblr, you really gotta work on that, I'm still a little miffed that I lost everything that I wrote here... and I'm rewriting the entire thing verbatim, I know- I should've saved it to a word doc first, which I did with this replacement post... Anyways... Thoughts on the RUBY GILLMAN, TEENAGE KRAKEN trailer!
youtube
Like the "Things I Loved About" posts I did on PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH and STRANGE WORLD, this will be a collection of unorganized thoughts... So, bear with me!
Finally… DreamWorks and Universal reveal that this movie actually exists. I mean, if you looked in the right places, you knew it was a thing. MEET THE GILLMANS was a title you saw, scooper sites had some stuff on it… But strangely, this project was never officially announced to the public until this trailer dropped… A little over 3 months before release. At least with THE BAD GUYS, whose trailer dropped 4 months before it came out, we knew of its existence as an in-development title as far back as the spring of 2018. This is an interesting approach: They’re literally going to marathon-run this film’s marketing campaign. How will it do? Well, I’ll get to that in another post…
First off? Visually? Eye-candy. Colorful as heck. I particularly dig the bioluminescent underwater kingdom, it’s like a mix of sea creature designs and futuristic lightshow aesthetics. Also, that shot of all the jellyfish? Desktop background right there.
You know, to keep waffling on about the underwater world… I’m getting the Aquaria Towers level from SPYRO 2: RIPTO’S RAGE vibes… Heck, I did a whole post on how I’d love to see a SPYRO THE DRAGON movie done in the style of PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH, but that’s another story… But all this neon-like bio-luminescence and the overall design of the architecture is also really making me think of a mid-1990s policy “snipe” for National Amusements theaters. I saw this thing A LOT when I was a child growing up in the late 1990s going to the movies quite frequently (I had seen DreamWorks’ debut films ANTZ and likely THE PRINCE OF EGYPT when they had come out, among others), so it’s burned into my brain. So yeah, this underwater world reminds me of that as well. I dig!
youtube
The Krakens themselves have like a squishy, bendy, clay-like look. Almost getting much older claymation vibes, like Gumby.
The rest? The above world has a fun look, as do the human characters. Given that this was directed by Kirk DeMicco, who directed DreamWorks’ own THE CROODS, and then VIVO for Sony Animation, it’s fittingly colorful and vibrant. Some of the human design reminds me of the humans in that movie, too. Lots of unlikely shapes and such. Now if this is still set in Florida as rumored, then it fits, because VIVO was set in Florida as well.
The story itself seems like a cross-genre mesh of different ideas: The mythology of Krakens and mermaids, a teen coming-of-age comedy (DeMicco cited John Hughes influences), a family drama, and a… Kaiju battle action movie? Talk about going all out with your basic premise!
Speaking of which, this isn’t at all like LUCA, which was also about sea monsters blending in with humans in a coastal community. That movie was much more informed by director Enrico Casarosa’s Italian childhood, was set in the early 1960s, and was a much more slice-of-life kind of story. Sorta following the day to day of these three kids in mid-century Italy, with no really larger plot, and stakes that are at their level - which I quite liked about that movie. I also do not understand why a lot of people online are suggesting that it’s derivative of TURNING RED… Did TURNING RED invent the teen/coming-of-age movie or something? Is it because in that movie, Meilin has to hide herself when she morphs into a red panda? That kind of thing has been done before, too. The executions for both are very different, even from this film’s trailer.
The film’s logo is also great. As a graphic designer, I'm gonna nerd out about this for a second: “RUBY GILLMAN” is written in a friendly cursive, almost like the kind you’d see inked onto a high school notebook page. The “TEENAGE KRAKEN” is blockier and bolder, with the “K” letterform forming a tentacle. That is very, very cool and very eye-catching! It’s actually reminiscent of the first logo made for THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES, where the “MITCHELLS” was in a similar kind of written cursive, and “MACHINES” was solid letterforms, suggesting the rigid and mechanic feel of the robots and devices that become corrupted in that movie. The final logo changes “MITCHELLS” to big capital letters, but it still looks like a notebook-like design (like say, that “S” thing everyone drew in the early 2000s), likely in Katie Mitchell’s notebook (as her art and scribbles are all over the movie, visually), but yeah- The RUBY GILLMAN, TEENAGE KRAKEN logo has that vibe, and I really dig it. Nice visual contrast of the protagonist’s wants to have a normal teen lifestyle, and her background and heritage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also find it funny that, on land, the antagonistic mermaid Chelsea disguises herself as a redheaded teenager. Some are quick to assume that’s a jab at Disney, or their upcoming remake of THE LITTLE MERMAID, but… It’s likely not much deeper than “Haha, let’s make her a redhead, like Ariel.” Because of how iconic and well-known the 1989 Disney animated film adaptation is, the first thing most folks think of when they hear “mermaid” is a redhead! I’d imagine the character design was locked a while ago, before it was even certain when this would come out. Even then, it’s little more than nothing.
I also noticed that Ruby’s calendar in her bedroom… May. Is that why Chelsea has come to her school? Because it’s Mermay?

So yeah… I am looking forward to this. It’s nice to see a new original DreamWorks movie. In terms of their NOT-sequel movies, this is their first truly original movie, not based on any pre-existing IP or book or story what-have-you, since ABOMINABLE came out in fall 2019… In fact, of the last eight DreamWorks Animation movies… Only ABOMINABLE and THE BAD GUYS were not sequels to any of their previous movies. The studio's new plan, as I have heard once from the trenches, is to have a not-sequel movie and a sequel every calendar year. Last year fit the bill with THE BAD GUYS and PUSS IN BOOTS Dos, this year it’s this movie and TROLLS BAND TOGETHER, next year… KUNG FU PANDA 4 and… Well, who knows. My non-existent money is on RONAN BOYLE… But that’s also another story…
I’m just happy to see that we are indeed getting two DreamWorks movies this year, and one of them is an original… And the original in question looks like a fun time, a mashup of like 3-4 different genres, and boasting a colorful, vibrant, and neat visual style...
In another post, I'll discuss what I think it's box office prospects are. If that interests you, stay tooned, then-
