Kro shuffled their wings in thought, they were a new addition to the team and thus having not been invited to the raid she now spoke of. Still though, if Clementine was confiding in them she must trust them the slightest bit.. Or found them disposable...

Despite that lingering thought, the flare decided to put their best foot forward as they spoke up once more. “Losing one’s voice is hard, not to mention the trauma of having one’s tongue severed. But you must not blame yourself for the actions of a madman. To rush into such a place would have resulted in many deaths, and you managed to bring everyone home.”

Kro looked out over the schoolyard below, tail swishing off to the other side before they added. “The best thing you can do now is be there for him, right now he’ll need a friend. I can take watch with Ruby.”

Today was a good day. I slept in (but by “slept in,” I mean I snoozed my alarm until 7, got ready in literally 3 minutes and somehow still got to work by 7:30 😅). I was still super groggy when I got to work though. Coffee didn’t help and the first patient I checked in probably thought I was stupid because I couldn’t talk. 😂 Nonetheless the second cup of coffee kicked in and by 3 cups, I was motivated af to get shit done. I knocked out the pulmonary and cardiac worklists and rescheduled most of a doctor’s schedule because she changed her hours. I love the days I actually have motivation to work but am also grateful I have a coworker who’s just about as unmotivated as me most days.

I finally picked up Ruby’s crewneck I got her. It’s so cute, I can’t wait to see how amazing she’s gonna look in it. I returned a few things too and found a cute outfit for work tomorrow. Ruby and I showered. It was so funny; when I was holding her under the shower she kept using the water cup to rinse my hair the way I rinse hers. Jeremy got her in her pjs and she kept saying “Bob.” I turned to Jeremy and was like “man, I really wanna know who Bob is.” And he said “Wasn’t that your grandpa’s name?” All of a sudden, it clicked. It gets weirder though because Ruby recently learned what sound birds make. She says “Cawww” really loud like a crow. All the bird noises in the world and she learns a crow first. Kro is my family’s nickname. But there’s more! I nicknamed Ruby “my booga bear” basically since she was born and I never knew what inspired it. When my grandpa was still alive, he always got a chuckle out of me anytime he said “Boogala boogala boogala, ah ah ah.” I have no other explanation for booga bear besides hearing boogala my whole childhood. I really want to believe my grandpa is visiting Ruby and watching over her. I wish he could’ve known her. She would’ve been his favorite.

Saat ini sangat sangat menahan diri untuk......... juga menahan diri untuk berpikir bahwa...........

Jadi besok emma nikah. Eh sumpah apalagi orang mau nikah yak kayanya lebih drama wkwkwk. Lalu adalah gue beli kain dusty pink. Yang dateng merah dong, mana acaranya besok.

Nyoba tenang dan mau pake kulot aja lah. Tapi disatu sisi terlalu casual pake kulot, kalo yang nikah bukan emma sih gapapa bebas aja baju. Cuma gue kepikiran gimana.... sebelumnya udah gue protes ke sellernya dan sellernya nawarin retur OF KROS LAH GUE MAU, emang mau gue ajuin retur dari awal. Cuma gue cerita jelasin dulu mengenai "kok saya dapet kain warna merah cabe? Kemarin pesen warna dusty pink." Dia minta maaf banyak, karena kemarin dia sehabis chat gue katanya langsung ke RS dan yang handle pekerjanya. Sumpah ya bahkan gue nanya "ada kode kainnya ga untuk saya checkout?", katanya "ga usah, kan udah chat". Okelah. Pas dateng merah cabe?!

Seumur hidup kayanya gue ga akan make warna merah gitu deh, selain ga cocok aja kayanya sama kulit, merah tuh bukan personality gue aja gitu. Gue gapunya baju warna merah cabe, merah bendera. Lebih ke kaya mau dateng ke acara partai aing kayanya kalo gue pake tu kain 🙃

Kepikiran. Akhirnya gue cari seller di jakarta dan gosend. OH MY GOD ITU ONGKIR SEHARGA KAIN. Bisa dapet dua tu kain!!!!! Cuma yaudahlah. Rejeki yang lain. Tapi gue impulsif ga sih beli kain gitu? Soalnya acaranya besok! Besoookk. Dan kain baru dateng sore magrib jadi baru tau kainnya itu salah pas magrib, ya tuhan.

Terus, gue akhirnya bilang ke seller merah cabe minta dibalikin aja uangnya juga. Karena si seller gue tanya bisa ga kirim ONS katanya ga bisa karena dia harus ke RS. I dont even want to know dia ke RS ngapain. Dia dari awal bilang akan dikirim besok pagi dan baru bisa ngirim besok pagi. Terus kalo dia ngirim kain baru besok, dia domisili solo dan gue jakarta. Itu kain nyampe sini kapan? Acara udah bubaaaarrr lah, udah jadi sejarah tuh acara. Akhirnya gue minta balikin aja uangnya. Huft. Tapi dia mau, karena itu salah dia. Gue saranin juga pake kode tuh kain, kain gaada kodenya samsek. Kalo yang packing cewek mendingan, kalo yang packing cowok? Mana cowok ngerti bedanya fuschia, pink, dusty pink, red, wine red, maroon, ruby red? Ga ada bedanya pasti kalo dimata cowok. Huft (lagi).

Setelah perdramaan kain selesai, adalagi kok mata gue gatel ya. Okay. Eh kok lama lama kedip sakit ya. Dan waw perasaan sudah mulai ga enak, ternyata WELCOME BINTIT NOMOR 3!!!!

Baru 2 minggu lalu gue bintitan 2 bintit di mata dan lokasi yang berbeda karena packingin barang syukuran. Kali ini, bintit ketiga ini adalah karena debu kipas angin gue rasa. Karena kemarin habis bersihin kipas angin akutuuuu.

Ada lagi drama telenovela baru juga. Pengen ng.....

Terus tadi siang gue makan, terus selesai makan tangan kiri gue pegang piring, tangan kanan geser bangku masukin ke meja karena udah selesai makan. Posisi tangan kiri disenderan bangku. Dan tangan kiri gue hilang kendali begitu saja, itu piring kebanting keatas meja dan pecah 🙃 waw. Sebenernya karena ngelamun sih. Wk. Untung kaca mejanya ga pecah beb ya allah bisa diomelin gueeee wkwk.

He’d mentioned a ship. She had been on very few of them - four times in one hundred and thirty-two years - and, once he’d birthed the image in her mind, she hadn’t been able to get it out of her mind.

She walked the beach one morning during sunrise, feeling both the instinctual adoration of the evening and the hissing frustration toward the sun. Her eyes swept the tide and beyond. Already a few ships dotted the horizon.

Was one of them his? If she could control the seas, she’d love nothing more than to twist them around his boat and swallow it down, crushing it beneath the weight of the water.

Even then, she doubted that he would disappear entirely, even from her dreams.

She came to a stop, facing those distant ships, and called Flo, the water familiar - kin to Kro, who she’d already formed a pact with - with her challenge. She had a new staff - a rod that glinted with a diamond and rippled with chaotic, dark energy that crackled and seemed to consume anything it touched.

It wasn’t her ruby rod - what would’ve brought Flo to their knees immediately - but it did the trick.

Afterward, when they lay in the gently lapping waves, barely able to hold their corporeal shape, Maerwen came forward, ignoring the bruises on her arms and the ripped coat from Flo’s ice claws that had cut it over and over again. She shivered as she dropped to her knees in front of them and, when she reached out, realized there were ice crystals still clinging to her hands.

She whispered the pact in raw, throaty Elvish - and the watery hand that touched hers was warm, sluicing the ice away.

As far as Maerwen had been concerned, it hadn’t been...easy. She wished it had been. More than anything else, she wished that she had been strong enough to face Kro, the earth familiar, face to face without ever once giving ground.

It hadn’t worked that way.

Two empty glass bottles rolling on the ground by her feet, her blood still singing from the rapid magical recovery that the potions had given her, she pushed the hair out of her face as she approached the trembling, weak earth spirit several feet away from her.

Her ruby rod dragged along the ground, lighting a trail of barely there flame that vanished when it found no purchase on the ground. She glistened with her every step thanks to her armor - but, somehow, her eyes shone harder than even her vibrant, sparkling shirt.

Kro looked up at her as she drew close. She knelt before them, tilting her head to the side, trying to read their gaze.

Respect. That was what it was.

She held her free hand out, bruised from the stones they’d struck her with over and over again. She’d been taught the words to say in English, but somehow they rolled off of her tongue in the soft, flowing Elvish she knew best.

“Bestow the protection of earth to the place where thou demands. Heed my call and come to my aid, Kro.”

Silence. Nothing but the breeze fluttering through the trees. But then their hand settled solidly in her grip, small but stronger than she’d ever imagine.

It was finished.
