"whatever your strategy is, you must figure out what you want to do and why you want to do it. It will be mind-blowing to know this, but consider the fact in every tournament, you will play more games against sideboarded hate cards than against an un-sideboarded deck. In a way, your game 2 and 3 strategy must be equally as good or better than your game 1 strategy. You must decide: Do I go all in on turn one? Do I mulligan to a safer opener? What do I name with Cabal Therapy? What is my role in this game?"

"In similar deck vs. similar deck matchups, there are a couple of things that you want to look at to figure out what role to play:

1. Who has more damage? Usually he has to be the beatdown deck.

2. Who has more removal? Usually he has to be the control deck.

3. Who has more permission and card drawing? Almost always he has to be the control deck.

If you are the beatdown deck, you have to kill your opponent faster than he can kill you. If you are the control deck, you have to weather the early beatdown and get into a position where you can gain card advantage."

You must know Legacy concisely, as well as your metagame, the popular sideboard cards at that given time, and what your card selections do or do not do well against them. And typically, those showrunners who go out of their way to destroy the romantic narratives in their shows just to show they are edgy (TM) and don't care about Shippers are always those who are deeply insecure about being perceived as Serious Showrunners because their shows are genre (already a point off in the "how to be perceived as the serious TV writer" score) and/or perceived as teen-oriented (say, due to being a network such as CW or its precursor UPN), which is even worse.... and also, don't - or did not before the Hulu revival, in Veronica Mars' case - feature much graphic violence, swearing or nudity, aka Adult (TM) things, due to being on such networks.

So how is a dude to prove that he's an adult, edgy, gritty type of a showrunner when running shows like that - than by showing contempt for the 'embarrassing' parts of their audience and going out of their way to spite them?

But only after baiting and teasing them for an eternity - because they wanted their shows to be renewed year after year.

One day I hope the term “shipper” will fade from discussion. I know the term originated with my Mulder and Scully and was a way to highlight fans interested in their relationship becoming romantic, but it seems the name has become a pejorative term and a way to dismiss and segment fans. Besides the media and often male showrunners dismissing and showing disdain for fans for even having the audacity to be interested in any romantic elements on a show, there seems to be a belief that if you do ship characters than that is all you are interested in. There is no understanding that you can not only embrace the entire story but that it only enhances your interest in the overall narrative.
