i returned to the rpdr fandom when i looked at the 'swipe to see the season 12 winner' and took one look at jaida and her instagram and fell in love. she will always be my most beloved

as the biggest rpdr fan i follow, are there any seasons you would recommend to someone who's never watched any before? I really want to start watching but i'm not sure which season to start with since the first season of reality shows usually aren't great :))

OOOHHH okay, seasons 4, 5, and 6 are regarded as the golden age of the show, and for good reason. It's peak reality tv trash with amazing drag and really heartfelt moments. But those seasons came out in the early 2010s, so it hasn't aged all that well regarding tr4nsphobia and f4tphobia. (Roopul didn't allow openly trans contestants on the show until like season 13, tho past contestants who transitioned were allowed on all stars before that)

So if you're looking for a tamer season to start with, season 8 and 9 is a pretty good introduction. I started watching right before All Stars 3 aired, tho All Stars 2 was the first season I watched in full. I was able to enjoy it a lot without having seen the previous seasons yet. Season 12 is another great season (despite the disqualified contestant).

Regarding international seasons, drag race UK seasons 1 and 2 are very good!!! You don't need to have seen the US version to get into it. The Thailand and Philippines international seasons are also great, as are the first two seasons of the España series.

Sorry I don't have a definite answer, but any of the above seasons are good places to start!

btw i watched 3 seasons of rpdr at this point (seasons 11, 12 and 14) and while some stuff was really rigged, i mostly agree with the winners. yvie was my favourite since the moment i saw her, i didn't mind jaida's win (like, if gigi or crystal won, i would be okay with that, all of them were really good), and willow was my second pick after lady camden (i have a crush on lady camden omg). also an honorable mention for daya-jasmine-bosco polycule because they're still on my mind. brooke lynn and miss vanjie could never

Who's the Most Iconic French Drag Queen?

Spoiler alert: it is not Nicky doll. I'm writing this post, not to be a hater, but to air some frustrations I've been having about Nicky. Nicky competed on season 12 of RuPaul's Drag Race, and as the first and only contestant from France on the show she was a natural pick for the host of Drag Race France, which aired it's first season in the summer of 2022. She's a likable host, someone who's relatable to the queens and has been through the competition herself. It's inspiring that she placed 11th on season 12 but now hosts her own franchise. She's released some music, and clearly wants to be seen as THEE queen of French drag. This becomes clear in how she presents herself on the show and in front of live audiences like when the casts of the seasons go on tour together.

In the beginning it wasn't as prevalent, but it's gotten more and more with season 3. I personally feel like Nicky is constantly trying to prove that she is worthy of hosting the competition, like how RuPaul is. Other hosts, like Supremme Deluxe or Mama Pao, haven't competed on the show but are established icons in their scenes. Most people outside of their countries hadn't heard of them, but could assume their authority and status based on the competitors impressions of them. But foreign audiences already knew Nicky because of her appearance on season 12 of RPDR. The French queens don't seem to really "fear" her, for lack of a better word either. Nicky wants to be seen as a bigger queen than she is. And I'm not trying to discredit her achievements, but I genuinely don't think that she's to credit for the success of DRF. I think that was caused by the competing queens' charisma, uniqueness, nerves, and talent.

The cast of season 3 are currently on tour, and at the end of the show when everyone is on stage together, Nicky has her own moment to walk the stage and everyone has to fawn over her because "she's the ultimate queen". The contestants are allowed to shine but she has to have the spotlight at the end of the day. It feels forced and it's unbecoming. This is all just my personal opinion.

As for who I think the most iconic CURRENTLY WORKING queen is: Paloma. And I know some of you just rolled your eyes, but I genuinely mean it. I have reasons, it's not just something I say by default. I feel like she has done much more with her platform. And yes, she's not perfect and she has let me down at times, but that doesn't take away her achievements- which I feel outdo Nicky's. I also think she has better stage presence. Again, I'm not trying to be mean or shady tea down spill the boots mama whatever, I'm trying to say that (in my opinion) Nicky's constant need to prove herself is making her less and less likable.
