Rules and Info

This is an askblog for the character Benilos in (my) @benilos's Time and Time Again series. This is a 18+ blog, as though the series is 16+, Bayfire is gross. Please be mindful of this, as I will very liberally block people if these rules are not followed.

This blog will be largely in-character. Refer to the read more for all info and then the rules for the blog and submissions. Anon list also under cut.

Rules:

This is an in-character blog, however I will also probably treat it like a loredump area, specifically for Benil himself. So be prepared for that, and filters the tags of any content you do not wish to see. I am extremely anal over tagging, but if I happen to miss something or you would like to request something be trigger tagged, you are welcome to do so, and I am welcome to deny or acquiesce just as much. Please be respectful when requesting tags/warnings.

This blog will content NSFW content, including gore/violence, as well as sexual content. It will be tagged, and NSFW content will likely not be put under a read more. I will have all tags listed at the bottom of the post for your filtering pleasure.

The only real rule is be respectful. TATA is a horror series with a very large amount of sensitive themes, including instances of rape, various forms of abuse, supernatural gore and all kinds of dirty gross stuff that lots of people on the internet are scared of. The story is linked at the top of this post, read its tags on AO3. You'll get it. I will not be censoring Benil's answers, nor any other characters.

Things that will not be tolerated however, is bigotry of any kind. Questions ABOUT these subjects are absolutely permitted, as these themes do/will show up in this series, but if an ask IS bigoted in nature, it will be deleted and the user blocked if able. I guess it largely goes along with being respectful.

There will be art! Most of it will be traditional art, unless yall wanna pay for me to be able to own a desk that's big enough to hold my massive gaming laptop and my big ass drawing tablet so I can actually do digital art.

Now for information about Benil, warning for spoilers to TATA!

Benilos, (bay-nee-yoh/beh-neh-lohs), is the current BEN Drowned-adjacent character in Time and Time Again, the Creepypasta AU series written by me, @benilos (on here and AO3). He is also referred to as, Benil (beh-neehl/bay-nee-yuh), Bay, Bayfire, etc.

This BEN is a primordial god in the TCU universe (TATA's whole universe), the eldest of three. His primary motive is to find people known as kolivera, aka singers, which, in the simplest of terms, is a soulmate of his. Oftentimes, these are other iterations of BEN Drowned/Ben Lawman. He is considered a hivemind, though I'd compare him more to Ermac from Mortal Kombat, with the whole, souls of multitudes thing he's got going on. You will learn those souls as this blog fills up.

Benil is open for self-shipping, questions about himself, questions about his world and other Creepypastas. You will see TATA's MC, Twitch, quite a bit in this as well, and characters from @scrollypoly's Soulless Computer Boy fic will also appear, as SCB/TATA do have a canonical crossover, and there is a chance for spoilers of that fic as well (though these will be avoided as much as possible, so some asks may not get answered if it spoils Scrolly's fic.)

The biggest thing to warn you all of is the shipping that occurs here. I ship what me and Scrolly have jokingly named Bencest, which is essentially us shipping our various versions of BEN together. You will see this a lot here. It is the primary ship we have here, you will also see ocxoc, ocxcanon, canonxcanon, etc etc etc here. Self-shipping and OC inserts are encouraged and welcomed, so you can send me stuff about your OCs and ask for interactions as much as you please, just keep things age appropriate. If your character is underage, do not request NSFW content of my characters with them. Point blank period. I am almost 22 years old, I will lose my fucking mind y'all.

Does your OC observe any ceremonies or festivals of remembrance? Who do they memorialise? How does your OC feel on these occasions?

Actually, there's a piece (Here!) I wrote about exactly this! (Technically, there's a second piece as well - I made it a sort of New Year's/Heaven's Turn tradition for her, after the first one I wrote about here - I wrote about the second one, but I can't find that piece atm...) However, I can talk about it a little OOC as well, though she talks about it in her own weird way in the writing. She's a person carved out by seemingly endless sorrow - it has broken her in a lot of ways, and made her a harsher person than she might have otherwise been... but she has never forgotten who it was all for: her Tribe. Her family. Her home. Her people. Ala Mhigo, yes - but the J Tribe, mostly.

And they are all gone. She is the only one left. She has a lot of trauma surrounding the types of deaths her family had, as well - how dehumanized they were as a people... little more than 'savage beastmen' to their captors. So in remembrance, she is somber. She is grave. She is quiet... she is on the edge. Family was everything to her people - tribe was what was important, and now she is utterly, and singularly alone; the only one left to light a memorial fire. It weighs on her heavily - the weight of a legacy she can see the end of - knowing she is the end of it. Every memorial fire marks one year closer to the end of the Jackal.

Speaking of the memorial fire! I can't find the right word for it, but it's effectively a funeral tradition I've come up with for the J tribe about burning the bones of the fallen, since they are a nomadic desert people - she didn't have the bones of her own fallen people, here, so she used mostly animal bones ( ...don't ask about the others). You build a sort of... small, pyramid-like structure out of the cleaned bones of the fallen, essentially weaving in flammable tinder, and light it up! Send off the fallen warrior's spirit by lighting a beacon to call the Jackal to guide them to the afterlife ( ...and you know, to keep their loved ones' bodies from being dug up to be eaten by desert wildlife). Jak has a lot of survivor's guilt - though, oddly enough, that's what has kept her alive when she really hasn't wanted to be, at times... knowing that all those dead people, all her dead loved ones? Their deaths would be for nothing, if she doesn't achieve something with her life - if she doesn't live it to the fullest, and do whatever it takes to come out on top in life... which isn't the healthiest outlook either, but it's given her a healthy will to live when she had little left.

Once a year, she gets to just go be alone and let all that sad out, all that regret and loneliness - and not be afraid to do so. Taking off her 'armor' is a rare thing.

While the coursework wasn't necessarily difficult, she did often fall behind. The rest of her life was far too busy to dedicate all of her time to her studies. So, in the moments of calm, she often spent a night or two binging it all and catching up. During those days, she would basically live inside Noumenon.

Today led to a rare sight. The Miqo'te fast asleep, not a hint of fitfulness to be seen. Going by the piles of tomes around her and one still open in her lap, she had been working for so long she fell asleep.

And, embarrassing as it would be when she'd come to, no one had the heart to wake her up considering she had been there for days already catching up. One of her aides laid nearby, tail lazily wagging here and there as he watched people come and go.

I’ve seen many people reblog a post which contains tweets that, in my eyes, amount to a single complaint that is only half true (but that I agree with for the most part). But anyway, here’s a longpost:

I think it’s mostly wrong to say FPS multiplayer “peaked” ("was most fun for the playerbase"?) with Source games in the way presented. Believe it or not, you can still join a server with 30 people playing on a user map with fucked up assets everywhere, and some of the 30 people playing will be 14-year-olds with bad mics getting mad at being spawn killed by someone with 20,000 hours in the game. In fact, there are servers like this in most Source games, including Garry’s Mod, TF2, and CSS and CSGO (but honestly I think TF2 is most representative of the above scenario). I just launched Valve’s community server browser and have found an unending list of silly-sounding servers for TF2: Minecraft trade, Murder at the Mannor, Zombie Escape, Medieval Mode, all full or near-full. I checked Garry’s Mod: SCP-RP, Zombie Survival, Clone Wars Roleplay, “Swamp Cinema”, 1980’s Mafia Roleplay, DarkRP (x20), again, all well-populated. Admittedly CS2 was mostly deathmatch servers (due to it being Source 2 and not Source and so missing a lot of plugins that would allow for “fun” servers), but CSS still had surf, bhop, minigames, and jailbreak servers still going and full. My server browser won’t show CSGO for whatever reason, but up until CS2 released I know for a fact that these silly ass servers still exist there too. The implication that these servers and their conditions are gone is wrong. You don’t want a server with the exact same conditions though, I think you want to relive the specific memories you’re having and feel happiness again. But maybe I’m going too far there.

How about this. I’ll give it to you, Dusk developer, that for you FPS multiplayer peaked with insane TF2 trade servers, but you also make boomer shooters for a living, so I think you’re biased towards enjoying an older generation of games anyway. Modern FPS games are fantastic and in their own ways contain a lot of fun. Modern games in general fill the spaces that, for you, TF2 servers filled. Have you seen Roblox minigames and Minecraft server plugins? They’re actually crazy and decently well made. I’m excited that kids have grown up in such a good environment for games. They have tons of options that we didn’t have back then. It’s awesome! Like, don’t let your nostalgia blind you to the fact that kids are having just as much fun as you now. TF2 and Garry’s Mod are not the be-all, end-all of FPS multiplayer fun. That sentiment I completely disagree with and think people should get over.

But like, how the hell does competitive gaming play into this? I truly don’t buy the wording of “Esports and competitive ranking ruined multiplayer”. It’s just not true. Not only are the servers you’re mourning still exist, they’re still well-populated and their “golden age” coincided with some of the greatest heights in competitive FPS gaming. You know what’s funny? When CSGO released in 2012, TF2 saw a drop of almost 10,000 average players. It recovered basically the next year. Besides a small dip in 2018, TF2 had held around 50,000 average players since its release, until 2019 where its average player-count has risen to about 80,000 players. Garry’s Mod wouldn’t peak in total concurrent players until 2015 and has had a dedicated core of players averaging around 25,000 since like 2013. Seriously, these are incredibly consistent player-counts throughout the release of Overwatch, PUBG, Fortnite, Apex, and Valorant. In fact, contrary to the tweeter's implicit assumptions, it seems like nothing much has changed, and that competitive gaming did not, at all, ruin or depopulate these “fun” spaces.

So, again, how does competitive gaming and esports play into this? Only thing I think is valid is the fact that a few popular modern FPSes don’t do the whole “community-hosted server” thing: Apex, Fortnite, PUBG, Valorant, and Overwatch all do not have native community-hosted server support. Which, to be frank, is bad for their competitive gaming scene too! Esports has ALWAYS used self-hosted servers for practicing to get better. I don’t know the argument for not having these sorts of things, maybe not developing the toolkit for these things is easier than developing them. IDK. But I agree that it is bad that many popular games don’t support this sort of thing. The “self-hosted netizen” is a category of person that’s been declining for a long time regardless of the effect of competitive first-person shooter games on the casual first-person shooter games self-hosted server market. But again, for the topic of the post, I think this is a completely nonsensical implication. As far as I can tell ALL Valve-made Source engine games have active and popular community servers still, and the popular games ALL have very populated servers with “fun” gamemodes and atmospheres. Competitive has grown very popular, yes. It's true. It's fun to compete, everyone knows it. But esports has taken very little if anything away from the casual playerbase of Source games.

(Also, for the record, during the actual multiplayer FPS golden age of the time, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 shooters, there were no self-hosted servers for us, and it was still the most fun anyone ever had playing casually on console. It was the age of trickshotting and montages, man! For the intent of this post that exact restriction counts as “keeping players from interacting with one another” yet these games, especially COD, were, uh… infamously social. Not to mention these games had competitive scenes alongside the casual scene perfectly fine.)

I think, really, ignoring the actual content of the tweet, these tweets are just about nostalgia for your childhood. Which is fine! You can miss things you used to do for fun and no longer do. Probably every human that’s ever existed has gone through this. I mean, again, it is kind of popular in current culture to be nostalgic. The 90s aesthetic, early 2000s media, retro games, super hero movies, cartoons being consumed by adults to a greater degree than ever, et cetera. I think to some extent the complaint itself isn’t like, a completely unclouded judgement of the Decline of The Beauty of Multiplayer Gaming throughout the years. The concrete complaints in those tweets seem both a little rose-tinted and unnecessarily doomerpilled to me. But like, regardless, it’s kind of your fault for not returning to these things, man. Go join one of those servers if you’re not busy being an adult with a job and friends and other obligations that may keep you from doing things that you’re not used to and have fun like you did in childhood. Or is that what's actually the problem…? I don’t know. A suggestion. I just think in the end the complaint isn't valid.

This post is long and I had a LOT of thoughts that I may have missed or chopped off at the incorrect time. I think the picture I'm trying to build has probably been communicated, though? Maybe I’m not considering something, maybe I overinterpreted implications, maybe the fact that the playerbase of TF2 and Garry's Mod being highly consistent for ten years or whatever is not indicative of anything I've said, but I hope regardless you understand that like, at least part of this tweet is weird to say in the ways I've attempted to untease. People young and old are still having crazy times in video games and esports has done, as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing to change at, ever.

As evident from her squinting to see and the fact that her eyes were still red and puffy, she had been crying at some point. A long, tired sigh left her as she leaned back in her chair. Resigned to the fact that she wouldn't be getting any work done, she stood up. Slowly she navigated through her house to get to the kitchen to brew herself a fresh pot of coffee White ears twitched as she heard familiar steps come through the doorway, turning to look over her shoulder.

"Hades? I-I'm sorry... Did I wake you?" Although, perhaps waking him up had been inevitable, she had been trying to get her studies done while still in bed so she wouldn't have to leave the warm covers. Which meant she had to disturb said bed to get up for some more coffee. "You can go back to bed, I won't be long."

He'd never spent much time in Limsa Lominsa, nor the beauty of La Noscea surrounding; certainly, the briefest of visits had been made in the past but they had been purely political and naught long at all. Mayhap time spent there on a more personal basis would be enjoyable;

I think Orym not fully trusting Laudna after this would be completely justified. I also think Imogene not fully trusting her anymore would be completely justified -Laudna Lied about not giving the power to Delilah.

I also think it's interesting how little choices here and there in RP makes it feel like Laudna thinks she has a monopoly on loss/grief. IMO she's always seemed a little dismissive about other people's trauma, and I think it's an interesting character flaw to give her!

That being said!
