This idea just came into my mind in vacations and I had to put my personal drawing style aside to giving shape to this Saint Seiya´s Shiryu homage, Kame House Sho Ryu Ha! (well it´s really Goku´s Dragon Fist, but you get it)

Saint Seiya Reboot Review part two

And so I watched yet another episode of the saint seiya reboot (why do I do this to myself?)

Shiryu’s english name (Long) is kinda redundant when you combine it with his saint title. So he winds up being called...Dragon Dragon *facepalms* the Japanese aren’t the only people whom like their redundancy...

Also, they rendered the Rozan Sho ryu ha into Chinese for some odd reason. Their pronunciation of it? they could have at least hired someone that could speak Mandarin to voice him! because what on earth is with that shitty pronunciation? I’ve heard better Mandarin and Cantonese coming out of my brother in law than him.

And then there’s the giant pink shiny metal elephant in the room: SHUN

So, Toei decides that Saint Seiya is too much of a sausage fest and decide to turn everyone’s favourite cinnamon roll into a girl. And then they go and said cinnamon roll the most boyish name I’ve ever heard, which kinda defeats the purpose of gender bending him in the first place.

Though you could argue that Shaun might be short for Shauna, I think I’ve seen enough in the comments online about how Shun being a girl leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths. The whole issue about how Shun represents how boys can also be strong as well as be sweet and compassionate towards others. And by erasing what makes him so likeable, we’re just adding to that whole toxic masculinity mindset of how boys can only be like the rest of the manly muscle heads seen in the series.

There’s also that issue of how in a later arc, Shun winds up being the reincarnation of the lord of the underworld so, I can’t help but think they shot themselves in the foot by doing this. Unless they’re planning on saying that Hades here decided to try being in a girl’s body instead of a boy’s.
