I'll go for Silliest Royai headcanon since I've already done controversial and specific, and i'm too cowardly to pick a favorite!

I think they play footsie. These bastards thrived on nonverbal communication through their careers and I think it'd be so silly cute if they're kicking each other under the breakfast table <3

Favorite and least favorite Royai tropes?

One of my favorites for them is "there was only one bed". I love to put them in situations where they have to try to ignore the tension between them and care about propriety. One of them sleeps on the floor or they put a wall of pillows between them but they end up spooning in the night. Telling themselves 'sleeping is a neutral act! There doesn't have to be any implication about it, and besides, who would know--but also who would know'... Losing their minds. Pining and yearning and making themselves look stupid. Maybe acknowledging that something is there between them. Maybe finally making a move. Maybe they pretend it didn't happen. Much fun to be had!

One of my least favorite tropes is them pining miserably forever but never acting on or even just acknowledging their feelings out of a sense of duty or self-flagellation masquerading as rationalization. It's just not my cup of tea is all, I'm an 'angst with a happy ending' kind of gal.

How different is it to work for a Big Bang project compared to regular art or comms?

In general, I felt like there was a lot less pressure! And don't get me wrong, the big bang was still an obligation to uphold, and I've worked with so many incredibly sweet commissioners who do not make me feel rushed--the pressure is all from me, internally. There was an atmosphere about just having fun with it, feeling free to be a little interpretive and experimental, all in the name of having fun with likeminded people. :D

Crunchiest piece of dialogue please :)

Eee thank you for this question! It might be my favorite. I love sharing dialogue -- it was so fun to write for this story!

“What have you been doing, Edward?” Winry countered. “Leave some for everyone else!”

“They’re free!” Edward retorted, holding tighter to a fistful of water chestnuts wrapped in bacon. “And they’re delicious!”

“Meet our new friends, Sue Gemin and Ignatius Chris,” Catherine said. 

“Hi,” Ed said unceremoniously, popping a water chestnut in his mouth. He didn’t even offer a hand, which was just as well, as it was probably slicked with bacon grease. “What are you here for?”

“The retreat,” Riza said, staring into the young man’s golden eyes. 

He just stared back at her, then laughed.

“I like her,” he said, pointing to Riza and looking at Winry. “Maybe this thing won’t be as bad as last year.”

“I like her, too,” Mustang said, wrapping a hand around Riza’s waist.

and ooof this was a struggle to choose! *cue me, furiously scrolling through my google docs*

so I'd maybe interpret some of my crunchiest dialogue as this, from chapter eight, in a scene where roy trims riza's hair and there's a lot of pining and ust going on:

She realized he had stilled behind her. "Sir?" She felt his finger tracing along the scar on her neck, so light she could barely feel it. "I haven't seen this in a while." He said; she couldn't see his face, but his voice was oddly rough, and almost trance-like.  She wasn't surprised he hadn't seen it; before, her military uniform had covered it, and in Ishval she mostly wore collared shirts that happened to cover the scar. Today, she'd worn a crew neck t-shirt that was high enough at the base of her neck to cover her tattoo, but not quite high enough for the scar on the left side. She wasn't hiding it, but she just wasn't highlighting it, either. In the grand scheme of her life, she felt that there were other things on her body that represented things far worse than this scar - namely her tattoo. He cleared his throat. "How’s it feeling?" "Good. I don't feel it at all anymore. It healed well."  Well, at least some part of her had. He hummed behind her. His fingers brushed gently down the back of her neck, likely moving the freshly clipped, loose hairs away. His skin was hot against hers, his fingers soft against the sensitive skin of her neck, nearly ticklish. This time she did shiver. Riza couldn't stop herself from tensing at his light touch, heart frantically thumping like a trapped bird against her ribcage. She wanted him to be fifteen feet from her - no, that was a lie, she actually wanted him to be so much closer. She didn't want him to ever stop touching her like that. She wanted him to grab her and not let go. She wanted him to bend her over his bed. She wanted - "Are you cold?" He murmured behind her. "You've got goosebumps." He'd finally noticed. Thankfully, he thought she was cold - not aroused. She certainly wasn't going to correct him. "Yes." Hawkeye lied, despite the heat of the day already pressing in, mixing with the heat flaring on her cheeks. Good thing he wasn't looking at her face.

OUGH MMM I would say it was to make the two drawings with an specific color scheme! One is black and white because is a newspaper clipping and the other is a sepia photo. So not only doing monochrome but also trying to capture the texture of the papers was really fun!! The sepia one is my favorite one :3 what are your favorite and least favorite royai tropes?

HELP A LOT OF PEOPLE ASKED ME THIS ONE..... so I will give everyone some different things I like and dislike sdfgh Some of my favorite Royai fanfic ideas is when they focus on their day to day at the office! Idunno, there is something about showing their routine thats very charming to me. They might have all these big plans and this complex past filled with guilt and yet they better be up at 7am every day to go and spend their day dealing with their bureaucratic job from 9-to-5

Anyways I don't like Roy & Riza being parental towards Ed and Al SDFGHJK I have many reasons but it can all be summed up in I find it reductive and it ignores most other very meaningful relationships Ed & Al have for??? Reasons????

What I have to say is that if you like that concept you should play Ace Attorney and get to the relationship between Phoenix and Apollo I think is 10 times more compelling and it is actually fitting for their characters!!!!!

- I love writing angst, so by the nature of what hanahaki is it got more and more angsty until an Ultimate Angst Climax that was very fun for me. Sick and twisted.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a writer in possession of a laptop also needs a handy-dandy notebook (ideally yellow legal pad) for outlining and finetuning dialogue. This is ideally paired with a fountain pen or another writing implement with fun-colored ink. I need somewhere to doodle.

I always need privacy to write. I tend to switch tabs away from my word docs when anyone other than my sister approaches me because I’m convinced they’re all trying to read what I’m writing and a) I tend to edit very late in the game and b) it’s always hard to explain writing fanfiction. Whenever I try to write on a plane/train, I have my brightness on the ABSOLUTE LOWEST possible setting with the laptop screen tilted as far to the keyboard as it can possible to go. I’m self-conscious that way. Virginia Woolf was totally right with her idea about ‘a room of one’s own.’

I also crave variability. I often have the attention span of a snail, so it’s hard for me to write in the same place twice in a row. Since I’m currently a grad student living in a college town, I try to get to a coffee shop to shake up my writing locales. I love writing outside and when I lived in SoCal I often took my laptop to boardwalk restaurants and wrote facing the ocean!

I will say I don’t need background music to write; silence or simply the background noises of a coffeehop do just as well. But when I do listen to music while writing it’s either classical, movie soundtracks, or lo-fi Nintendo music. Coffee Date’s Zelda albums are currently my go-to.

Honestly, as fun as writing my fic was, the most fun thing about the project was getting to know everybody and just hanging out and sharing ideas <3 <3 <3 this has been such a supportive group and I'm super excited to see everyone's projects!

I answered this in another ask but the short answer is is that they slowly started taking over my brain like a virus as I continued to interact with Fullmetal Alchemist and now I'm here god bless🙏

Hmm...my story takes place in a desert area so it would probably smell really dry, and it takes place during the alluded to Briggs/Eastern Command training, so it would probably smell like gunpowder and sweat and I think I also mention the air smelling like Roy's fuckass aftershave in the fic. At some point she got him to stop dousing himself in axe but it was not this early. Jokes aside, part of the fun of this fic was thinking about how things would be the same and also different this early in their professional relationship.

WHEEE I'm so excited for everyone to get to see all the amazing fics that have been cooking for the past 9-ish months!!! Everyone put in so much work and the hype is very worth it!!!!

my CONTROVERSIAL ROYAI TAKE iiiiiiiis that I think they need to get over themselves and be happy together. The more controversial one though is that I don't want Roy to become the fuhrer or president or whatever. I think he can and should be involved in the reparations process and even government/lawmaking but 1) I am a huge sucker for characters not achieving their goals and having to find other ways to do things/find out what to do with themselves afterwards/grapple with their priorities and wants changing. And 2) them dismantling the broken system and demilitarizing the state, even if it means Roy never reaching the top, feels more on-message to me than Roy becoming The Dictator But It's Fine Because He's Nicies. It's kind of shit if the only way you can make real, actionable change is to be the highest person in power. I do get where the "Roy becomes the fuhrer to dismantle it from the inside" stuff is coming from but... SHRUG. Just my personal preferences.

“A rager,” Rebecca said promptly. Her tone was much improved already, almost chipper, which Riza could only take as a bad sign.

“Do people even say that anymore?” Riza asked, half kidding and half genuine. She never had known what was cool, and that was a diagnosis that was only worsening with age.

“Who cares,” Rebecca said dismissively, already breezing along in her plans. “I’ve got people lined up, Riza! It’s going to be a great time.”

“What people?” 

“Meet at Haversham’s at 9!”

“PM?” Riza groaned. “What people?”

“Yes, PM,” Rebecca chided. “You’re thirty, not eighty.”

“I feel eighty. What people?”

The most fun thing about the event was getting to chat with everybody about one of my favorite ships everrr. I love being part of a little community like this and hearing everyone else's ideas! Writing can be such a lonely process sometimes, so having the virtual company was so lovely.

Oo I answered this one already but I'll give a couple more. It smells like dust and air conditioning, tastes like that bit of sand that somehow got into your mouth??? HOW DOES SAND GET EVERYWHERE, and sounds like an old-fashioned ink pen scratching across paper. <3

so for crunchy dialogue (I answered this earlier here here, but I'll answer with another piece of dialogue, because why not):

And beyond all that," She barely managed, her throat tight, "I'm not in any sort of mental state to be a good partner. I would only be a burden." He stilled, staring straight into her eyes like he was staring into her soul. "Hawkeye," He said emphatically. "You will never, ever be a burden to me." She closed her eyes and shuddered, feeling too overwhelmed by the intensity of his words, the fiery brightness of his presence beside her.  This was not the first time he'd told her that, but every time he did, it was like he was chipping away at the icy, protective layer that had formed around her heart since she was young. She wanted to collect up all the words he'd been saying to her lately - words like that; validating, soothing, healing words - and bask in them like a cat in the hot desert sun.

favorite royai headcanon: my current fav is that riza never sold hawkeye manor. roy goes with her to help her fix it so she can finally sell it, and they manage to make better, happier memories in the manor to replace riza's bad ones from her past. this is a fic I'm currently working on as a wip (started back in.... like december? or earlier? wip snippet here). i had to put it on hold to work on overcome, but I've picked it back up since then. it's going to be a post-canon, fluffy, comforting smutfest and I am so excited.

OUGH a thing that is basically canon to them in my brain is like.... So during the time Roy was studying the tattoo right? I like to imagine that he considered proposing to her... It wasn't particularly out of love at that time. Roy thought Riza was pretty and they got along but nothing more, but well, considering the times that doesn't even sound too unusual. Roy was asked to take care of her and she needed support so that might have been good...

The only thing is... well, you know, he was going to war, and he could very easily die- And then what? Would he just marry a woman to then go and die and leave her?? Would he leave her to be stressed about this?? Also some time had passed between them living together and this, he didn't know if he knew her too well at this point and if this is something she would want. So he didn't .

AND OUGH I love that level of doomed narrative and think to look back on. I think if Roy did that and Riza did accept, she wouldn't have enlisted because... why would she. Sure she wants to be useful and do things to help others but also the Military predated on her because she literally had nowhere else to go. If she had at least that safety net then maybe she would have gone somewhere else........ There is also the possibility that Riza would NOT accept his proposal and even feel insulted by it and thats tasty too........ Idunno, is an idea that just exists as canon to me in my little microwave brain.

Working alongside a writer!! It was really fun collaborating and see the fanfic get written <3 and then get the ideas on what to draw, what is interesting to portray here and the emotions!! Also I really like the server <3 muak

I think I just really like how they treat each other! Arakawa is very good a small dialogs giving you A Lot. I think Riza and her humor is the best example, normally saying wild shit with an straight face and Roy just looks at her like 🤨 Their conversations slide soo easily from formal military talk to making a jab at the other and is just!! Nice it is sweet it shows they have a whole dynamic on their own. THEY ARE!! FRIENDS!!! they are legitimately friends that's the casualness they talk with one another and I think that's why is soooo compelling to absolutely everyone.

IDUNNO IF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE is 4 am LOL huh my point is Arakawa's writing is good you get something out of every dialog.
