Favorite and least favorite characters
Hehehhehe ok here we go
FAVORITES FIRST!!
First off we have this man (of course), definitely one of my oldest favorite characters, I've been obsessed with him for forever lol😅
Tumblr media
One of my favorite things about his character is definitely his sarcasm, it cracks me up every time, and I absolutely love the development that he goes through as the story progresses. I personally love the misfit character finally finding a place in the world kinda trope, which is of course exactly what ends up happening with Hiccup after he befriends Toothless.
(Also, the music?????? I can't even describe how it makes me feel, there are no words, I very much literally cannot stay still when listening to it.)
Next we have these two
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THEM ‼️ ‼️ THEY'RE SO ‼️ ‼️ No words
I love me a good chihuahua man who loves his strong badass wife, I mean how can you not?? Also their backstory?? Tears, rolling down my face. (THE AMOUNT OF TIMES THEY LOST THEIR MEMORIES OF EACH OTHER HAD ME LIKE ‼️‼️😡) Childhood friends to lovers my beloved🙏🙏 I also just love how King tends to be more serious and solemn and meanwhile Diane is wicked cutesy and energetic!
(Me over here losing my mind since it's been confirmed that they have at least 7 kids😃)
Next we got THIS GUY!!
Tumblr media
He's just so cool you guys, I can't. Cool military man who can manipulate fire and helps overthrow an evil government??? Yes please!! HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH HAWKEYE????? PERFECTION!!! THEY WAY THEY LITERALLY ARE SO CONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER THAT THEY CAN TALK WITHOUT WORDS IN THAT ONE SCENE??? THE WAY SHE HELPS HIM PERFECTLY AIM HIS SHOTS WHEN HE LOSES HIS EYESIGHT???? I'm so normal about them, I could go on for a very long time.
THIS DUDE‼️‼️
Tumblr media
I'm looking so respectfully... ANYWAYS
I know that a lot of people see him as a "rip off" or "wanna be" Darth Vader but like.. bestie that's the point. He's supposed to seem like a new Darth Vader, but the truth is they're incredibly different, Kylo has always been conflicted and known it, and been afraid of it, while Darth Vader didn't question himself until the end. Also I'm sorry to people who don't like the romance aspect, but the connection that he has with Rey??? I will literally never get over it. "Their kiss wasn't romantic" BESTIE DID WE WATCH THE SAME MOVIES???? DID YOU MISS THE PART WHERE THEY ARE VERY MUCH LITERALLY TWO HALVES OF A WHOLE??? THAT THEY'RE A DYAD IN THE FORCE??
NOW MY BABYGIRL‼️‼️
Tumblr media
LOOK AT HIM‼️‼️ I love him
Is he kinda insane? Yes. But y'know what?? It's ok. Because I said so. ALSO HIS LORE??? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INSANE?? LIKE COME ON HOW CAN YOU NOT EVEN FIND HIM TO BE INTERESTING AT THE LEAST??? He is the ✨main character✨
Nah but in all seriousness like, I love the antagonists that aren't entirely bad or evil. Like the way he is with Teucer?? Tears. The fact that he writes letters to Tonia and refers to himself as her "loyal knight"??? ARE YOU SERIOUS??????? He's literally so precious, just a little messed up...
As for characters I don't like.... honestly it can be hard sometimes to get me to hate a character, because even if they're like "bad" or "evil" or something I can always respect the amazing writing and designing that makes the character the way they are.
HOWEVER
Tumblr media
THIS FUCKIN 10 HEAD CUBE FACE LOOKIN ASS BITCH CAN ROT IN HELL‼️‼️

opinion posting about riza hawkeye/otp on something i see a lot around town but i disagree with.
Anyway. One thing I see more often than not is the idea that Hawkeye joined the military in order to chase after Mustang because she wanted to protect him. Or that she chased him while in love. But that is actually not true. I know ‘Because I have someone to protect’ is meemed into everyone’s head, but that was not her reason for joining the army. And it does not make sense either.
Like in a strategy guide to get Riza laid any% speedrun, what option is most logical?
1) Go completely no-contact with Mustang. Attend possibly multiple years of the military academy, likely in a different region from where he is. Get into a speciality that is wildly different from him. Git gud at that and then hope that maybe, if all the stars align her future boss will one day for some random reason put her in the proximity of this magic scientist she has not spoken to in years. And then ??? profit?
2) Literally just call Roy on his phone number, perhaps sent him a nice letter, or visit his address.
Sure, the first thing is what actually happened. But it's way too uncertain for that to have been planned. She did not need to be a soldier to be close to him. Roy was not a stranger to Riza, she had his current up to date contact info. He gave it to her on page/screen after her dad died.
When she first sees Mustang in Ishval Hawkeye looks angered and shocked to see him. The first thing she says to him is ‘Do you remember me?’. These two had no contact at all between 1905 and 1908. Mustang got flame alchemy and skedaddled out of her life (even though he was supposed to look after her lmao) and Hawkeye also had clearly no intention of seeking him out when she could have done so easily. She did not join the army to protect him. And also, she says why she joined:
Tumblr media
She wanted to improve the lives of the people of Amestris. So am I saying it had nothing to do with Mustang? Well no. Her reasons for joining the military are the same as his.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She looked up to him. Here is this young man who has been to places beyond her sad little town and graduated from the military academy, he is a genius alchemist and must know what he’s talking about, right? That is on top of whatever their relationship was like before then, and whatever adoration she had for him already. She trusted him and thought his dreams were wonderful. Riza also wanted to believe in a peaceful future. Remember that they live in a totalitarian military dictatorship that has been in continued armed conflicts since the middle ages. There has never been a time of peace, ever, since the country was founded. And from the normie Amestrian point of view, they are just defending themselves from outside attacks. I believe that if Hawkeye and Mustang were sent to a border conflict instead of the civil war, they would have never questioned their government.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Riza saw an opportunity to be useful with her own two hands, beyond being a walking notebook. Even if she could die in the process, it’d be worth to try. (And the military would also give her a salary after growing up in poverty and a place to live that is not the house she was abused in). She was a teenager with no family, no guidance, no idea what to make of herself. But this was something she could do. (She could have chosen many non-violent paths instead too, to be fair, but I digress).
And then it all went to shit obviously. You cannot become a sniper and never expect to kill. Selling your agency to the state means you can’t just play hero when you want to, you will be sent where ordered whether you like it or not, and forced to commit horrors or die a traitor. Believing the naive ideals of protecting her country was a mistake. Blindly admiring and trusting Mustang was a mistake. Smarter people than me can go expand on that.
But the ‘because there is someone I have to protect’ reason Hawkeye gives for being in the military is actually the reason why she stays. She could have gotten her diploma after Ishval and leave the military behind. But she chose not to.
Tumblr media
She stays and will continue to kill because flame alchemy is her responsibility and she has created Mustang, all his kills are mentally hers. If she quits or kills herself while he does not, flame alchemy is still loose in the world outside her control. And just like Roy, she never fully gives up on her dream about protecting everyone. There must be a way to make all this worth it. There is still a way to change the country so future generations won’t have to go through what she did. She’s already doomed so she will take that responsibility so others won’t have to. She violently and fully clings to that.
If Mustang dies before doing anything positive for the world with their dreams and his abilities, all Hawkeye has done with her short life is cause destruction, murder and create a murderer, all the suffering would have been a waste. She cannot life with that guilt or continue the path alone, she will give up and kill herself. Especially in the scenario where she kills Roy herself, and with that her only hope.
There is no way out for them. But their murder-suicide pact was not planned for since they were young. They never intended to see each other again and spend their lives like this. You can blame dad for setting them up for failure.

Still stewing over how Riza watched Ed and Al swap sacrifices and probably learned some alchemy basics from her dad (and seems to have aptitude, given she's the one non-Xingese, non-chimera character to sense the homunculi), is willing to mutilate herself, and got pulled out of training to fight because she was just that good of a shot, so in the end she should've gone hey colonel I'm trading my dominant eye for one of yours. This works out for me too since I have to stay in the military for our Big Plan and would rather not be their star sniper anymore. Don't be dramatic about it.
Roy would not like that but what is he going to do, lie in his hospital bed and bitch about it? Ed couldn't refuse Al's sacrifice either. Second instance of someone forcing human transmutation on him but this time it's for his own good. Codependent bestie friendship bracelets partial blindness representing how uncomfortably far the other person will go even when you don't want them to. The Truth doesn't think they're quite grasping the lesson it wants them to learn but eh. Close enough. Leave the Ishvalans out of it.

Hi!! I’m super excited to read your fic! For the ask game:
Anything people who don't know the Hunger Games should know before reading? (I personally have not read them though I know the premise).
And what inspired you to create work based on the Hunger Games?
Everything you need to know about the Hunger Games world before reading the Royai Hunger Games au.
Very quick premise of the Game mechanics: There are 12 districts + the Capitol. The districts all compete in the Hunger Games by sacrificing two of their children each year: a boy and a girl ages 12 through 18. Children murder other children and the Capitol televises it and sells those children after they win. Oh but limeta I don't remember there being prostitution in there, too – yeah, well, Finnick exists. He was 14 when he won the Games and then had to do whatever the Capitol demanded of him. The Capitol, as well, is not above modifying tributes against their will. Like body modification, brainwashing, you name it – the Capitol's got it!
They don't see these kids as kids, but commodities. It is eerie, it is meant to be horrific how much the Capitol's people have gotten used to the Games to the point of them cheering when they see Kid N7 kill Kid N12 in cold blood. They're treating it like blorbo from my shows got extra screen time.
It is also sick to see the degree at which the District kids are forced into performing this song and dance for the Capitol. This is their only way out and it's not enough that they actually go and murder other kids – and their own fellows from the district – but they also have to smile and they have to wear pretty dresses and do interviews and pretend to be stars! They have to be in full control of their emotions, they have to think about their own marketability when only last week they were barely surviving hunger at home.
If you speak out against the Capitol – you get your tongue cut off and become an Avox servant. (no voice in Latin or voiceless) . Kind of taking literally: the help is to be seen, not heard. Or taking censorship to a whole ‘nother lvl.
Every 25 years in canon to make things interesting the Capitol changes the rules and puts some weird and terrible twist on the Games. For example, for Haymitch’s Games, they doubled the tributes. So instead of 2 tributes per district – they pulled 4.
Haymitch is important. If you can’t handle surprises and want to know what you’re heading into with the fic, read his wiki. If you want to raw dog it, honestly let’s fucking goo you’re in for a ride.
How FMAB changes the lore:
East, West, North, South, Central are the districts. Central City is the Capitol.
There's also district 13 in canon which is supposed to be like a ghost district nobody survived the rebellion it's like Podgorica after WWII - well turns out there's a rebel base there. District 13 is Ishval.
There are not enough fucking characters for this so I had to use some cannon fodder from 03. They’re not important, they’ll die. I mean everyone will die, but if you don’t know their names chances are you won’t need to.
Instead of every 25 years, I have the Capitol change the Games’ rules every 5 years. Why? Because there are not enough characters!!!
In the Hunger Games, there’s only 1 arena. I, to make sure Father’s plans of bloodshed hold geographically true, have all of those bloodshed points like Lior, Pendleton etc be arenas and so every year they switch it around until they’ve accumulated enough blood to make a red crest.
Alchemy is on the same lvl as say, finding a gun in the arena. If you know how to use alchemy, you’re free to do so. As long as it’s been preapproved by the Capitol. Like if they put the gloves w the arrays in the Game, you get to use them.
Also google Effie Trinket – yeah that’s how Roy dresses.

Butch: What happened to the old bank? It was beautiful. Guard: People kept robbing it. Butch: Small price to pay for beauty.
- William Goldman, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: Screenplay (1970)
In a brilliant William Goldman script peppered with memorable lines, the first exchange sets the tone of this classic Western movie. Butch looks around a bank at closing time, chatting with the security guard as he perhaps sizes up his next job.
“What happened to the old bank? It was beautiful.” “People kept robbing it.” “That’s a small price to pay for beauty.”
Right away, Goldman establishes Butch as a charismatic mouthpiece for the quip-ready screenwriter, contrasting nicely with the Sundance Kid, Robert Redford’s taciturn sharpshooter. But he’s also created two heroes who break the western mold, neither justice-seeking white-hats nor grizzled, sneering black-hats, and not as traditionally masculine as either party. Butch is a man who appreciates beauty and art, but doesn’t have the stomach for violence; it’s not until late in the film that we (and the Kid) discover that he’s never shot a man before and he looks sickened to have to do it. He’s a pleasure-seeker above all else: robbing banks and trains are his way to make an easy living and enjoy whatever sinful freedoms his vocation affords him.
Tumblr media
Audiences in 1969 were all too happy to embrace the light, quippy irreverence of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid after a turbulent summer, and Goldman, director George Roy Hill, and the two impossibly handsome stars made them feel cool for doing it. True Grit had performed well earlier in the year as a throwback to the genre’s past, giving John Wayne a proper victory lap, but Butch Cassidy was thoroughly modern, a star-making vehicle for Newman and Redford that reflected a need for the genre to turn the page and that feels as much of its time as it does authentic to Wyoming in the late 1890s. With Katherine Ross at the centre of a love triangle between friends, the film attempted to bring a French Jules and Jim vibe to the American mainstream, taking a lesson from the French new wave on how to revive old Hollywood craft.
It still works spectacularly well. There’s an alchemy up and down the production. Redford possesses easy charm, which parries so well with Newman’s smarts that the two would run it back again with Hill a few years later in The Sting.
Tumblr media
The pop doodling of Burt Bacharach’s musical score is about as far from a traditional western score as possible, but it somehow meshes with the sepia sheen of Conrad Hall’s photography, which burnishes the legend of these two men while their story is still being told. And while Goldman’s screenplay dances on the edge of glib, it’s lively and sophisticated, with a strong theme about the capitalist forces that really tamed the Wild West.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is such a rollicking good time that it takes a while to notice it’s about the end of the line for its heroes, whose celebrity is already widespread when the film opens and ultimately hastens their demise. “Your times is over and you’re gonna die bloody,” warns a sheriff, prophetically, in an early scene, and the film is mostly about Butch and Sundance getting chased out of America by hired guns and dying at the hands of the Bolivian army.
Tumblr media
They’re mostly guilty of stealing from the wrong guy: EH Harriman, the railroad tycoon, spends more trying to catch them than they rob from his safes, but it’s an opportunity for a powerful man to send a message about who’s really in charge. Guys like Butch and Sundance can handle local lawmen and half-hearted posses, but they can’t fight progress. The EH Harrimans along with the the Rockefellers, JP Morgans, and the Carnegies and of the world - the original robber barons - would make certain of that.

Looking back on it, I believe Psyren in FMA 2003 is a narrative foil to 2 characters : Roy and Sloth. I'll mostly focus on Roy because that's really the parallel that talked to me the most.
I mean, once you think back on it, Psyren being a narrative foil to Sloth almost feels obvious : Alphonse immediately compares her to his mom, and immediately assumes she can do no wrong based on that first impression. That, plus her alchemy is heavily water-based.
But speaking of water, now onto fire: why Roy?
Well, Roy appears to the Elric brothers as an adult who is always one step above them. Almost immediately Edward shifts from admirative and respectful of him to doubtful and hostile after feeling like he was used once. A sort of rivalry gets established between the two. What's more, both Roy and Psyren are heavily associated with seductiveness, which in the 2003 version, is as much of a truth as it is a mask they wield to fool the people who underestimate them.
Most importantly though, is their goal: they both play cat and mouse with Edward, but also genuinely seem to want to help him. They both treat him half like a child, half like an adult, and tend to leave him extremely confused. Ed doesn't really seem to know for sure what to do with either of them.
But then, what does that parallel serve? Well I think Psyren makes it pretty clear: "what you think to be true of this character isn't necessarily so."
What is Psyren's goal? It is not to steal to gain money for herself, or to steal just to save a few establishment who might collapse in a few months. It's never made perfectly clear if her goal is actually the one stated, but it seems that she wants to give her dying city a few last moments of glory before it completely sinks into oblivion. The city WILL die, mind you, there is no stopping that, but she makes it go like a dying star : like a bright light everyone can see rather than a dull flicker no one noticed. She makes her city something to be remembered.
And accordingly, Roy's goal is not as obvious as it seems at first. He definetly tries to gain rank and power in the military, but why does it do it? To change the female uniform? That's obviously a stupid reason to want to go to the top. And why does he help Ed and Al ? Is it just for personal game? To be able to use them in need?
No. All he does, he does because of what happened in Ishbal. He wants to make sure something like it never happen again. Or does he? No, what he does is to give himself a justification for still being alive, to give meaning to the meaningless deaths he caused. It's both completely selfish and selfless at once. And the reason he helps Ed and Al? It's not about them, it's about the Rockbells, it's about Winry who he made an orphan. By helping the brothers he tries to correct that injustice he's responsible for. Or is it? Isn't it just because once he got to the door of their house, ready to take the blow of anything that gets thrown back at him, he instead faltered ? And that he still needed an excuse to be there?
