Some bittersweet news:
In light of the recent loss of our Captain (the frankly irreplaceable Josef Ravenson), we have decided to bring Endeavor (our Star Trek fanfic series) to an end. Because we already had two episodes very far along in the pipeline for season 3, we went ahead and released those. But our next episode, sadly, will be our last.
It’s called “Forever Endeavor,” it deals primarily with the sudden and unexpected loss of Captain Jia, and it will be dropping later this week.
For now, please enjoy one of the best pieces of art we’ve ever gotten for this show (and that is an extremely competitive title), by the always excellent Mike Warner, aka Mike X.

Alas, arms were not always wide, as Sheila Rowbotham remembered: 'The 1978 women's liberation conference divided so acrimoniously on the question of inherent male violence that no one was ever prepared to call another one.'

A post from the B&B Club. Some people have said that the Aristasians never evangelized or recruited, but they definitely did a fair amount of recruitment in their day. I wonder if this cat-whisperer was ever formally introduced to Aristasia, and how she felt about it. It's one thing to invite people into your vintage fashion friend group for pit-crit time, but it's quite another to spring the idea of Aristasia Pura, intermorphs, and a spanking based society on the poor girl.

Fact of the Day 2.12.22 It could be argued that the modern day flat earth movement was kicked of by Samuel Rowbotham in 1849 when he published a 16 page pamphlet. He is noted for running away from questions such as “Why do boats disappear over the horizon?”.

How come, at least in the book version, Anathema Device carries a bread knife specifically? Are bread knives different in the UK than the USA? In my experience, a bread knife doesn't have a point and is widely serrated, making it more effective for roughly hacking someone than stabbing or slicing. Is that just her preference for self defense?
The key word is "antique". It wasn't a modern bread knife. It would have looked like this.

Makes sense Jeeves is more traditional, Woodhouse said he'd be 35 on his first appearance, while Wooster is 24
That's definitely part of it but I think there's also an interesting class angle here. Jeeves isn't just interested in Wooster being dressed well, he's interested in him being dressed suitably as a gentleman.
There's a whole theme here about servants as enforcers of class hierarchies - see Jeeves' utter disdain for Rowbotham in Comrade Bingo, who in turn sees Jeeves as "an obsolete relic of an exploded feudal system". Jeeves may be politically as well as sartorially conservative.
I think that goes beyond Jeeves and Wooster - there's a trend in literature from and set in this period to portray servants as conservative, or at least more so than other people from a similar class background. This interview suggests that this might have had some basis in reality, for instance because more conservative families would prefer their children to go into service than into less respectable alternatives like factory work, and because servants often echoed the politics of their employers.
Though in Wooster's case, I assume he votes in whatever way Jeeves suggests that he should!

“Very good, sir.” “Hey! what’s this? What’s this?” Old Rowbotham had lowered his cup and was eyeing us sternly. He tapped Jeeves on the shoulder. “No servility, my lad; no servility!” “I beg your pardon, sir?” “Don’t call me ‘sir.’ Call me Comrade. Do you know what you are, my lad? You’re an obsolete relic of an exploded feudal system.” “Very good, sir.”
Rowbotham talking to Jeeves reminds me a bit of a scene in the film Ninotchka. (It's sandwiched between more iconic scenes, or I'd link a clip instead of typing it out)
Leon: Good evening, Gaston.
Gaston: Good evening, Monsieur.
Ninotchka: Is this what you call the butler?
Leon: Yes.
Ninotchka: Good evening, Comrade.
[shakes Gaston's hand]
Ninotchka: This man is very old. You shouldn't make him work.
Leon: He takes good care of them.
Ninotchka: He looks sad. Do you whip him?
Leon: No. But, the mere thought makes my mouth water.
Ninotchka: A day will come when you'll be free. Go to bed, little father. We want to be alone.
Gaston is just as displeased with the situation as Jeeves is. Leon minds less than Bertie, but then he is about to get laid and that's not where Bertie's interests lie.

"C’est l’éruption de la fin"
New letter from my friend Bertie Wooster and after reading again I can comment about this. This story needs a soundtrack and I chose the version I'm most familiar with of L'Internationale.
I really like to read about how was political activism before the internet era. In general I love history and political propaganda and humour are important part of history.
See this illustration?
Tumblr media
It looks familiar:
Tumblr media
This letter shows clearly how Bertie is the "mom friend" of his group, and that's why chaps like Richard Bingo Little always ask him for help. Wooster has the intention but lacks of creativity to make plans. That's why Jeeves is so important in this dynamic.
Before we start, give me your honest opinion. Isn’t she the most wonderful girl you ever saw in your puff?” He had produced a photograph from somewhere, like a conjurer taking a rabbit out of a hat, and was waving it in front of me. It appeared to be a female of sorts, all eyes and teeth.
Another very ace moment of Bertie and another woman in Bingo's history. How can he fall in love so easily? IIRC this is the fourth woman after Mabel, Honoria and Honoria's friend. Love makes Bingo blind and he can't see the red flags likes this one:
You must meet old Rowbotham, Bertie. A delightful chap. Wants to massacre the bourgeoisie, sack Park Lane, and disembowel the hereditary aristocracy. Well, nothing could be fairer than that, what?
I'm all "eat the rich" but not a big fan of a massacre myself [*sips mate tea*].
When I was in college/university/whatever I met some guys who used political meetings as a chance to meet girls. Communist girls were very famous during the Revolución Pingüina (Penguin revolution) in 2011 like (now minister) Camila Vallejo. None of them used fake beards, tho.
Tumblr media
Dear Bingo Little, you don't think that maybe it's a bit too early to start with expropriations? How can you invite a group of people to the house of a friend and demand food?
Tumblr media
There's a Comrade Butt, a horse, too much food and tea but I don't know how Jeeves can use it to help Bingo and Bertie. And yes, I'm more than sure that Jeeves will be the one solving this. He's the brain of this duo.
