Update – Act 2, Chapter 2

Chapter 2 – A world under the sea

The new chapter is live! It ended up longer than I anticipated because the ROs demanded a little extra time in the spotlight. Not that much longer, though, but those greedy bastards couldn’t resist to have an extra scene dedicated to them.

There was also an unexpected variable that completely changed the mood of one scene! It’s incredible how much a single choice can make a moment feel so different. I’m really glad I added it, even if I have a personal bias toward the more light-hearted, ridiculous outcomes (they’re my favourite, hehe ;D).

Trying to work on Book 1 of TLFYL and my attention at some point drifted to a comedy video style scene. The kind where the camera is on the person entering a room and them asking what [other person] and it turns to every person in the room as they answer and ultimately, the question isn't answered.

Anyway... This is how I think it would go in a TLFYL setting:

Snape: Harriet. What are you doing?

Harry, sheepish: That... Is a very good question. Freddie, what am I doing?

Fred, looking anywhere but at Snape: Oof, I. You got me. George, you got any idea?

George, staring at the ceiling pensively: You know, brother mine? I don't, which says something. Ronniekins, what says you?

Ron, shocked gaze on the floor: Mate, I really don't think I'm the one to ask. 'Mione, d'you maybe know?

Hermione, exasperated and hiding her face in her hands: Turns out the know-it-all DOESN'T know it all. Neville, you explain!

Neville, hands raised placatingly: I'm not- sure I could. Ginny! You know, don't you?

Ginny, dazed: You'd think, what with living with so many brothers... Luna, why don't you take a stab at it?

Luna, dreamily: I think the only one who can tell us what Harry was doing, is Harry herself...

McGonagall enters, asking: Severus, what is going on here?

Snape, frustrated: That is what I am trying to ascertain and yet these eight individuals cannot explain just what Harriet was doing.

McGonagall: Well, Miss Potter? What were you doing?

Harry, smothering her laughter: That. Is a very good question. Freddie-

Update on my Zelda ROTP Overworld Sprite Set.

Missing are some more cliff corners, maybe a cave entrance and river shores. Once that is done, I can start building maps.

Since everything else relies on having basic nature, it is important to make this first. I also changed the tree crowns. Might make them a bit darker but overall I like them more now. Look more leafy.

UPCOMING!

Rise of the Phoenix is returning, and we’re bringing a lot to the table!

On November 26th, 2022, Series 4 will resume, with the launch of a very special episode: Soul Searching. This episode will focus on Voldemort’s past in a way we’ve never seen before, and has a featured new writer: S.L. Rhodes!

Series 4 will post weekly until its conclusion with the epic finale on December 24th, 2022.

After that, there will be a fairly short hiatus, to make up for the long one, and Series 5 will begin in February (date TBD)!

And...for the most exciting bit of news...

Our audio drama has now recorded the first episode of the show!

It’s got a stellar team and cast, and we’re so excited to share it with the world. We are still looking for a few roles we’ve had yet to cast, so keep an eye out for Casting Calls in the coming months.

You can anticipate a teaser trailer in January!

Listen man you could write 6,300 more chapters for this story and I would diligently follow it and love it to the bitter yet i am sure lovely and beautiful end my goodness. Would you consider keeping this story alive and like updating it as we see what season 24 plus will bring the eo story line? Like obvs you couldn’t do it all but like I would be fine with however you did it… to give you context I have followed an Olivia/ed tucker au all the way out to chapter 200+ purely because I LOVE what the author did with the damn AU!!! And you are so beyond brilliant I would simply be a fool to bet against your writing my dude

lmao thank you for this anon! i do have a clear stopping point in mind for coachverse, bc i think it's important for stories to end. i think a story should be a story, and sometimes when it goes on too long it loses what made it special. you want to leave before you wear out your welcome; you want a story to end while you still love it, and not bore you - or repeat itself until what came before becomes less meaningful. i don't intend to carry coachverse all the way through bc the story was always about something, and by the time i get to the end of my plan we will have explored that in full. in this verse everything after rotps would be sort of irrelevant anyway, bc elliot was never a cop and never left olivia in coachverse so all the really juicy shit from the last few seasons wouldn't fit into the story.

which is not to say that i don't have ideas for further down the track; there's an arc with peter stone i'm not gonna get to but which nonetheless i love, and when coachverse is finally done i may share that with y'all here on tumblr.

but also. when coachverse ends i can finally write miaverse and i think y'all are gonna enjoy that lmao

Update - Act 2, Chapter 1

Chapter 1 – A sacred mission

You find yourself in an unknown world. With time and powerful sources against you, you and your friends rush to end the corrupted cycle once and for all. However, a new setback leads you down a much different path.

We officially start Act 2! The chapter is much larger than I had planned, around 55k+ words, which is… a lot, lol! Part of that is because of Ada/Omar’s route with all the variables affecting how they treat the MC. But, truth be told, I’m glad it’s substantial like this, hehe :D.

On another note, something funny happened a few days ago while I was coding. I updated Twine to version 2.9.2, which force me to tweak the code a bit to maintain the same UI, but for some reason the scroll bar wasn’t working? Anyway, after 2 hours of testing things here and there, I found an easy solution: go the fuck back to the previous version. If it ain’t broken… xD. I’m pretty sure the actual solution is super easy, but I might be missing it because, well, sometimes I feel like a bit of an idiot, lol! I'll figure it out eventually.

Setting that aside, though, I hope you enjoy this opening chapter of Act 2 and continue to join me on this journey through Remnants of The Past.

Update - Act 2, Chapter 3

Chapter 3 – The laws of the ocean

Chapter 3 is here! We’re slowly but steadily getting to the good stuff in this Act! Fortunately for this project, the new Dragon Age game was a massive disappointment, so it won’t take as much of my time as I thought xD

Update - Chapter 9 (Act 1 Finale)

Chapter 9 – According to plan

Everything is ready to set sail for your destination. The cycle is ending and it's time to say goodbye, but a certain individual might have something to say about it.

Finally, the last chapter of the first act of Remnants Of The Past has arrived! I think back now, and it almost feels like yesterday when I started writing this story. It has certainly grown much more than I initially thought, and I am grateful to all those who have reached this point ^^.

Returning to the chapter itself, besides the final stretch of the story, I also bring some good news that I've been wanting to share for a while! As you know, I've been editing the entire story before finishing it, adding things, tweaking others, and removing some that didn't quite convince me, but there were two things I didn't want to mention until they were completely finished.

Firstly, I've added a friendship route! My idea has always been to make a romance story that accompanies the adventure, so I quickly dismissed the option of making a separate route without any romance (I'm a romantic, I can't help it), but this was when I planned to lock the romances at the end of the act. However, the flow of the story decided that it would be in Chapter 4, and I understand that some may find it harder to stick with one so soon, so I started thinking about adding an alternative route to enjoy the story without MC having a romantic interest, and here it is!

But this doesn't mean that the story will be shorter or less enjoyable if you choose for your MC to remain single! The scenes with the ROs have been adapted to this route, and you can spend time with the characters in a completely platonic way. Sometimes you'll be able to choose who to hang out with, and other times the encounters will be random.

And lastly, the second thing I've added, which excites me more than I thought, is that the mysterious individual is officially an RO! I know some of you were eager to give love to this character (or at least try), and I'm not going to be the one to stop you! However, this RO will be very, very different from the others. Much slower, and with details that I can't mention because they would be severe spoilers, but the option will be there for those who want to take it. To do this, you must choose for MC to remain single for now in Chapter 4.

And that's not all, this character now also has a female version! How cool is that? :D The downside to this, though? All of you who use a save file prior to this update will see the pronoun variables and encounter several inconsistencies that will take you out of the story, because in that save these variables do not exist, so you'll have to start from the beginning.

IMPORTANT NOTE!! This complete first act will be completely free for one week.

On Wednesday, April 24th, the free version will be replaced by the demo that will cover up to Chapter 4, and the purchase version will be available on both Itch.io and Patreon for all those who cannot purchase it through Itch.io.

Update - Chapter 8

Chapter 8 – Mending souls

And the storm arrived.

Man, writing this chapter was tough! Between real life stuff, illnesses, working on the Patreon page, and the usual complications of the writing process itself, this has taken longer than I thought! It's also longer than I initially anticipated, reaching around 45k words, which seems a bit crazy for a single chapter. Obviously, all the routes are included in that number, but it still makes for quite a lengthy one.

Speaking of the chapter itself, it's time for all the decisions made throughout act 1 to come together and reveal the final outcome for the world of Thaon! How will it look and what will happen in the future with that resolution? Only time will tell, but it will undoubtedly be crucial, and certain, um, things need to be taken into account. But, of course, that's something I'll have to deal with in the future, so you don't worry... too much ;).

With this chapter, there's only one more left to finish the act! I can hardly believe it, to be honest. It still feels like I'm in chapter 5 or so, hahaha! However, there's still a lot of story ahead, but we're making progress little by little!

Update – Chapter 7

Chapter 7 – The last straw

While you and your group hope for a request to be approved, someone on the other side decides to pull a few strings.

There are a few things I added for this update apart from chapter 7 that I’m quite happy about.

First, and this one’s quite obvious, I changed the UI again with @a.w. morgan’s template which you can find in the credits section. I think this one looks nicer, and also adds the OpenDyslexic Font by Abbie Gonzalez :) I also thought the problem with the preferences would be solved if I changed the UI, but it seems it still doesn’t let you change them on mobile. I suppose it is a problem with Itch.io and not the code. At least this one doesn’t force you out of the game lol!

Second, I managed to add the option to mute the audio in case someone prefers to read without music, which is something I wanted to add for a while! You can find the button in the footer menu, next to the credits! I wanted it to be a switch in the preferences menu, but for some reason it just doesn’t work if I put it there :/ Well, at least it works wonders now hehe :D

Another thing I added, which came with the template, is the back button. I was going to delete this feature since I don’t like the option to go backwards in stories, but I decided to leave there in the end for those who do prefer to go back and make other choices, either to see it all without having to reload -which is a pain if you do it every time- or because you made a mistake. Whatever the reason, I hope you enjoy it!

Demo update

​I have to thank the user aliceeh for letting me know about this. I must have mixed the files and accidentally uploaded the full version but now the demo has been updated and it shouldn't let you continue the story after chapter 4.​

To those who knew and didn't say anything....

Minor Update

The update I mentioned a few days ago in the Monthly Update is here! Now there’s a new passage at the end of the Act with a button that will create the save file to carry all your choices to Act 2 when Chapter 1 is released. There’s also a guide that you can follow for mobile players.

Note that only this last save file will work to import you choices.

Apart from this, I’ve fixed a few bugs and grammatical errors that I missed, and I’ve removed the audio on the Android app, since I still haven’t found the answer to why it doesn’t work, and it’s just taking up unnecessary space in your devices.
