24 lakh volunteers, 1.5 lakh supervisors, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and Rotary come together on this day to drive one of the biggest campaign - To End Polio from this world. 17 crore children of less than 5 years of age are given polio drops to sustain the polio-free status of India. And in Karnataka , 32,908 booths have been set up with, as many as 49,338 teams formed comprising 1,10,179 vaccinators to make this world Polio Free on the National Immunization Day . This year the campaign will go on till 2nd February 2021 ! From 3,50,000 children affected by Polio in 122 countries of the world in the ’80s, the global partnership of Rotary with WHO, UNICEF, Centre for the Control of Diseases and Prevention (CDC), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and numerous other partners, the world as of now is free of polio except in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Rotary has contributed more than $1.7 billion and countless volunteer hours to immunise more than 2.5 billion children in countries worldwide so far. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have also played a significant role in decisions by donor governments to add more than $7.2 billion to the effort. My beautiful wife returned from the Philippines as the official photographer for a medical mission with Alliance for Smile, the organization performs cleft lip and cleft palate corrective surgeries for children and adults in developing nations across the globe. These are people in countries who do not have the necessary facilities or the insurance and they are waiting for help.   And because Nadezda has a big heart and knows how important all the missions are, because she was there, she decided to start  Facebook Fundraising for this organization. Tamworth West Rotary Club has handed out a record amount of money to local community efforts. The Tamworth Motor Show contributed more than a third of the record $98,000 distributed tonight at the annual changeover dinner held at Tamworth Community Centre. This is nearly double the amount normally raised and distributed, with the Shannons Tamworth Motor Show adding $35,000 to the total. Changeover is a dinner where the outgoing president, James Hindmarsh (left) hands the chains (literally) to incoming president, Simon Guest. Thanks to all who attended the Motor Show last month - your contribution will help the local community. More than $42,000 has gone to purchasing 16 defibrilators spread across the city, $17k to Youth Insearch, $5k to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, $3000 to Tamworth Family Support Service, $3k to Tamworth Parkinson's Group, $3k to PCYC, $3k to Billabong Clubhouse, and nearly $5k to the Rotary Foundation which is celebrating its centenary, being formed on 17th June 1917. Many more smaller donations were made. So proud of my Small One. She spent nearly two weeks in the Philippines on a medical mission with Alliance for Smiles, which is a charity organization conducting cleft lip and palette surgeries for children in developing nations that children would otherwise not have the ability to undergo this life changing surgery. This is Jelianne and her father right before surgery. She’s a two year-old with cleft palette and lip. She lives with her family in a secluded village outside of Manila. Her father suffered a construction accident, so the mother is the only person in her family that can work. She is the reason why the work of Alliance for Smiles is so important. Often these children are malnourished because they have difficulty eating. Her transformation was truly amazing, but in the years to come she’s going to need to undergo additional surgeries to correct the defect. But this trip my beautiful wife was on was Jelianne’s first steps to having a normal life.
